But that Chihiro part though... it was like my feels were slowly getting cut by an ice skate. It was one of the most painful moments I have ever seen in anime.
i completely agree with you,i just curl up in a ball whenever i think about it.
I don't know what GRArkada is talking about as a "read the manga ending". That Chihiro part summed up the show pretty well. The lose souls' plans were stopped and that moment with Chihiro just compounded how all of these conquest have actually touched and damaged Keima's heart. Perfect ending if you ask me.
Nihilism55 though I had my own best girl, him choosing her made sense, because like he said often hate turns to love
President Waldo The part with Chihiro tugged at my heartstrings when I read the manga, but goddamn it made me cry like a little bitch when I watched it in the anime. (Yes I started with the manga)
President Waldo Right?!?! It was like my emotions got blue-balled!!!
"something something goddesses". Great final verdict process Arkada
I thought so too.
+Glass Reflection I can't watch your first revew of the anime due to copyright stuff(but I am watching this on my phone so I don't know if its gust for phones or whatever)
I feel like the fact that you didn't touch on Keima Katsuragi feelings, or how empty he was feeling was a big part of the review. Atleast mentioning his struggle to forget or pretend he has feelings for the goddesses while also tirelessly having to hold back the fact of him falling in love over and over again just for just to be forgotten has to have some toll on him.
To be honest i don't think that's the way Katsuragi feels. He habitually shuts himself out of reality and only interacts with other people because he has to. He started off simply manipulating girls by pretending it was a game because he has a sword over his head. What saved him from being evil was that he seemed to slowly start to come out of his shell and empathize, but in this series that is all reversed. Now he emotionally disconnects himself on purpose manipulating his classmates, methodically and unempethetically because the sword is over their heads. It makes sense _(from in universe logic)_ but it also makes him a complete ass.
I think he is a mix of both opinions. He is more human but to evade being destroyed by feelings he shuts himself down to save the hell
I just finished watching this series after this review. The last episode of season 3 hit me so hard with the feels. Can't handle it.
Same. Help me plis
The ending wasn't a ''read the manga'' ending, was paramount. It opens questions that don't need to be answered.
Ha, "I can't see the ending", your not the only one pal
funny since the manga just ended
ShukakuTheCrazy1 really? I just started on that!
jesse_playsgames
yeah it ended a few weeks ago I think (ddont recall the exact date). personally I felt the ending could have been better, but it was still satisfying enough.
RIP Manglobe. You will be missed ;~;
This anime still makes me cry. Unfortunately that both anime and manga had ended in such a sad note.
The original god only knows review's taken down..... Whats up??
Always look forward to your reviews :)
You and me both~
TheSuperNovaCraft I suppose you can count me in :)
Definitely c:
"Pull a School Days" yes, the show is THAT infamous
Really like the current production quality of these videos. The intro, background set up etc. Looks like a proper show
>Yes I'm talking about Evangelion
>Yes I'm still pissed
It's been almost twenty years man, move on
and there's EoE and the Rebuild
Mr Anno's wild ride never ends
May I explain the read the manga explanation for this series?
The animation studio went defunct due to people pirating the episodes. They were unfortunately 350 million yen in debt, so their planning for season 4 was stalled. The animation studio that brought us Samurai Champloo and Ergo Proxy is gone forever and we can't get it back, unfortunately. Yes, I am saddened by that, and yes, I hate the fact that we didn't get OVAs of the two important girls of the Goddess Arc. Especially Yui. I love Yui.
Bruh so we could’ve gotten a season 4?
i have to say this is one of the few very professional anime review channels that i have found on UA-cam, glad i subscribed to this.
I love your anime reviews and would like to thank you for making these review. Just keep it up.
I wouldn't mind a season 4. And a movie to end it all.
Dude that would be amazing if it happend
I'm kinda bitter that Heaven's lost property got two movies while The World Only God Know still sitting here
I think it ended beautifully. But I wouldn't mind a season 4 but then again, with that ending, I think it doesn't need a season 4
Auto Paradise Especially given how shit Heaven's Lost Property actually is.
#6seasonsandamovie
I actually really liked the season 3 ending for this show. To me, it felt like a perfect way to close the story up to that point, but still leave the door open for more to come, if they wanted to do more. Plus I love what they do to close off the arc before the very end with Elsie's epilogue of what happened next. I also didn't mind missing those 2 or 3 girls' arcs cause the characters are all cookie cutters character archetypes, for the most part, so figuring them out wasn't too bad, though it is a shame we didn't get to see them played out. That said, for me, this season would probably get an 8 or so, but I don't think I've seen enough to be as critical as you yet. I'm working on that though ;)
AWESOME!!!! A NEW REVIEW!!!!
I really enjoyed this arc, but not as much as the first arc (Of course, that's probably because it was something different and new to me). I gotta admit, the ending left me wanting more and the manga didn't help much either...I do like the direction it took though, making his past "conquered" remember him.
Great review as always, Arkada. I'll be waiting for the next ^^
Always pleased with your reviews, keep up the good work.
I like the effort u put into your reviews, that's why I'll subscribe to u!
"read the manga" ending are much better then anime that make an original ending (ex. Soul Eater, Claymore...) cause the original endings are always rushed and bad + they don't leave room for a continuation.
claymore had a read the manga ending :/
no lol, they changed it and made an original ending, what happens in the end of the Claymore anime does not happen in the manga.
but that ending is soooo opened that it is not an ending o.O
houssem ben ali Yeah but it was changed so much that the anime can't continue by following the manga.
I personally enjoyed the anime soul eater ending. It did feel a bit rushed and I don't like how they gave her weapon powers for a minute, but overall it wasn't bad.
This arc was one of my favorites, but it also had that huge flaw you mentioned so I could see where you're coming from. Great job on the review.
i have been watching your videos for a while and your enditing style is soo good now, i just love the style and editing you use now
Speaking of which, you really should review Welcome to the NHK. I feel it's such a brilliant and important contribution to the world of anime. Just how relatable it is is quite scary.
I always read the comment section after the video and always see the "do this review" throughout it and it just makes me want to just post "Do a barrel roll!"
You are really one of the best anime-reviewers!
I was actual on my way 2 ask you to make this review on the third season xD and found it :) thx for your hard work.
Hey Arkada can you review Casshern Sins?
I find it funny how these 2 suggestions for anime at the end were identical to the suggestions you made for Watamote.
The suggestions were kind of bad. Lucky Star has no spark as TWGOK and Welcome To The NHK seemed like its own thing. But TWGOK has its own thing too which is why I love it.
I just realised that you have Major Motoko Kusanagi in the background.
Shame on me that it took so long to realise it, but I love it!!!
Yessss ive been waiting for this review for a while
Please review "Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo", it looks like a generic love/comedy anime but believe me it's more than that, it have a lot of potential =)
Was a disappointment at some point.
louigel017 Some people say that before episode 13 Sakurasou was just a love/comedy anime and others say that after that episode 13 Sakurasou turned into love/comedy anime, for me Sakurasou was not lost his shine and he was always great
oh my god! i am watching that RIGHT NOW! its so lovely , i thought it was a simple romance anime with comedy elements but it has such great deep meanings behind freindship , love and also ambitions and hobbies in life, i love it so much so far,
dammit your original review is blocked. also i was really fucking confused at that character skip i thought I'd missed a season or something but nope it just wasn't there.
The way you explain is just prefect
Good review. Very fair! Once again, I like the format. Good video!
Hey what was the absolute WORST anime you have watched/reviewed?
This comment needs to be vote up!
I think he's made it pretty obvious it's School Days >.>
Mydian There's gotta be worse out there than that. There just has to be.
Either school days or ah my buddah he has a review on both
Thepinigas But surely there are worse?
Maybe one so traumatic that he refuses to tell?
ive noticed that you have seen code geass. i would love to see you make a gr anime review for both seasons. plz take that into consideration.
i'm 100% agree with that
i have the same idea asking him that
i agree. please think about it. Im sure you would get positive feed back
code geass doesn't need a review i think and arkada doesn't review popular shows.
code geass needs a review. thats that
code geass is not that popular like naruto and bleach
a great anime like code geass must have a review like clannad and the melancholy of haruhi suzumiya
Another great review. I commend you for putting out as many as you have. It isn't exactly easy.
Finally, a review for the Goddesses arc! A new perspective!
are you gonna review Guilty Crown?
Them chihiro feels came back as soon as I read the title. Thanks : '(
The best part about this was it was the first time Keima had a mental breakdown
Nah dude, the best part is when keima tryna conquer the library book girl...
make a video of all of your final verdicts kinda wrapped into one ^_^ cant wait for your new videos!
where is your the world god only knows review?
could you review bake-,nise-,nekomonogatari and monogatari second season please? :D
he has never seen it before
who arkada or me?
well if arkada hasnt seen it... what the FUCK is he waiting for?!? O.O
i really have no idea.
arkada,
It appears I am your hair senpai, therefore I command you to watch the monogatari series!
Aetohatir Think he explained it in one of his podtaku episodes. (I don't really expect you to know this since each episode is an hour long and you have to be a pretty hardcore otaku to know everything they talk about.) But he mentioned that he knows it's good even w/o watching it, and actually watching it might ruin it, so he doesn't want to watch it. I don't recall what the topic was about. Something about hype related with SAO2 and attack on titan or something.
Arkada you really should review Psycho Pass if possible! I'd love to see your opinion since it's a pretty interesting piece of work.
I love your reviews! Please do a review of Natsume Yuujinchou next!
Isn't it hypocritical to complain about skipping over the manga when, in your previous review, you stated that you wished that they would skip over these arcs? I don't recall you mentioning that you wished only the plot irrelevant girls were skipped over. The anime does exactly what you want but you make no mention that you even wanted them to do exactly what they did. Seems like a poor criticism to me, especially since you used that to completely overpower the entire review. You barely talked about the story itself, just going on, and on, about how it skipped over some of the middle of the manga.
It's fine to mention it, but you should qualify yourself by mentioning that it was what you specifically asked for, so you can't exactly let that one thing completely define whether or not you liked it.
I also felt that calling the ending a "read the manga" ending to be a lie. The goddesses are brought together, the big bad is defeated, everyone is sort of getting along. Are we disappointed that Keima didn't decide who his love interest is? He doesn't have a love interest. Everything he did through the entire thing was an act. Once he no longer needs to fake it, that truth can come out.
Could the ending have been done in a way that made it more closed off then it was? Sure! However, you don't really need to read the manga. You can simply say that the big bad was defeated and people went back to their normal lives, the end.
We are lucky to even have this arc at all. We all know it's unlikely to get a fourth season. So, should the third season have focused on more of the same? If that had happened then there would have been no ending at all. Seasons one and two do NOT have an ending. Assuming that Season Three is it, at least it has something to finish on.
I know this comment is 5 years old, but what about Keima trying to break the contract with Elsie. This was a pretty big motive for Keima throughout the series and in the last few episodes they didnt even mention it, nor was the contract over at the end of the anime.
You should review the 2012 JoJo reboot.
Would you make a video showing us the short list of the anime that you would watch over and over countless times !
Somehow I just knew you were going to include Welcome to the NHK in your recommendation list, and the funny thing is they don't even share much in common.
I'll have to check this series out
No Amagami SS in the recommendations?
truly underrated anime...
Please review Toaru Majutsu no Index! :P There aren't many other reviews of it, and I'd love to see what you thought of it
Are there any jormungand review plans in the works?
Love the videos man.
I love it when he adds that little 'legally'
tid-bit at the end.
Hehe
Um the reason why it didn't say see you next time was because the Manga wasn't far enough to consider given a fourth season. When Season 3 ended it was barely starting up the Jupiter Arc which took awhile to finish but now that the manga is officially over there a chance Season 4 will come into works being how the final Arc explains everything like the contract Keima made. Why there was goddess in each of those girls. And of course The teacher secret and who she really is.
Plus Sentai a few weeks ago announced they are dubbing Season 3.
darkchaosmaster7 rip. 2 years have passed anf still nothing
Manglobe closed down because they went bankrupt. Unfortunately there's no season 4 to expect enymore.
I'm definitely up there with you about not quite giving a full recommendation. It was just SO close to getting it, but with the fact of there being a few conquests that wasn't shown at all (you had to read the manga basically), that's what dragged it down for me. If they had shown EVERYTHING, then it'd be up there without a shadow of a doubt as one of my top series for sure.
Of course, the one part that I REALLY wished they had shown was the body switch conquest. With what they did in the show with having to do the reconquer, I just laughed my ass off from the hilarity of it all. But even so, I too had that nagging feeling and with how some people not willing to take that step of looking up the manga or don't have enough time to, that hurts making that full recommendation.
So I'm definitely with you for giving the Stream It rating. It was SO close, but not quite.
Arkana-san!! I dunno if you accept requests or not, but would you review Mekakucity Actors once it comes out? It might be complicated since it's part of a bigger franchise called Kagerou Project and the only "trailer" that is out is 15 second CMs showing the voice actors of each main characters every Saturday.
Actually Ark it techinically wasn't a, "read the manga ending", because the manga actually never follows up on the questions at the end of the Godesses arc. Instead it completely changes direction and starts a bizarro time travel arc, which I assume is the creator trying to milk the series for every last penny before it finally dies.
The Time Travel arc fits quite well into the series, but it's quite boring in comparison to the rest of the series.
It's still the case that he totally could have wrapped the series up nicely at the end of the godess arc. Maybe it's just me, but since it started I've just seen this story as a delay tactic to put as much time as possible between finishing the story arc between, Chihiro and Keima, which I've always thought felt unfinished since the Godess arc ended.
what questions are you reffering to? i cant really think of any that were not answered
@blackrave404
He could not ever be ossessed because demons only take bodies of girls. Specyfically those who can get pregnant.
And it actually kinda... happened. Keima realised in the past, that he will be the one who set the stage. And that also means making gaps in hearts of (at the time) children.
Love the series. Still, seriously pissed that they skipped over the Tsukiyo arc.
Hey Arkada have you watched Hakuouki? If not then I really recommend it! If you have what did you think about it?
I'd like to see your review on Escaflowne the movie and/or the series. : - ) That would be awesome!
I personally love the third season however i wasn't satisfied with this ending and I hope there is a 4th season coming out
true dat :)
Edit: MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD
Didn't like the fact that, in the anime, Keima basically gets shafted after saving the world (partially his own fault, but he's basically ignored the real world for close to a decade and a half, and Chihiro is his first (actual) love), and I had to read the last chapter of the manga to feel as if, while not immediately lovey-dovey, Keima and Chihiro will probably end up together.
Shouldn't have to jump through that many hoops (yes, one hoop is one too many) to reach closure with any particular anime/manga.
Otherwise, loved the series.
Hey Ark, I doubt it'll actually happen but could you do a Mekaku City Actors first impression when it comes out? That would be amazing.
On a completely unrelated topic, have you seen Princess Jellyfish? If you have did you like it? The intro song gets stuck in my head a lot.
Haven't watched the anime but the manga for world god only knows was great, and its actually finished unless some long running manga.... The ending is also pretty good, a little rushed, but satisfying.
the score should have had the same treatment that attack on titan's score had (a possible upgrade on the score) cuz there will most likely be another season concluding the story...
This didn't age well.
@@bruhmoment11111 😔
Hey GRArkada, can you review the anime "kokoro connect"? I just want to hear various opinions on a review because it is interesting.
I'd love to see a review of Golden Boy. It's only six episodes long but it must be one of the, if not the, funniest anime out there (english dub). Anyhow, keep up the great work.
Arkada review Highschool of the dead!
I didn't think he actually review this.
You uploaded this on my birthday! SWEET!
Love this series, but most people that don't read the manga probably wouldn't enjoy it as much... and people that did read the manga will be a little ticked to know how much they skipped... Meh, it doesn't matter, I will always recommend this series
yea i can see this reaction i was thinking about this this morning actually im happy you reviewed it
Meh, I didn't read the manga but I still loved this series, and had no issues with the plot. I thought the re-cap did a good enough job and didn't leave me feeling lacking.
Also thought the ending was amazing. Yeah it doesn't wrap up everything, but that kind of emptiness really reflects the MC's inner turmoil and the emptiness/sadness he feels for breaking hearts.
Shit gets so crazy after this arc in the manga. Keima quite literally gets caught up in the past. And you also come to a crazy realization regarding all the girls whom Keima conquerors, but thats all for you to figure out after "reading the manga"
I love the show it self, but the ending in the manga was kinda, not clear.... Its almost like they rushed it in order to start a new series which was kind a disappointment. Still though the show is good.
it was for the best I mean he didn't end with a girl but he got interested in the only one that fell in love with the real him kinda so i wouldn't say that the ending is bad and I won't say that it is perfect but I will say that the ending is cute.
and yes the final arc is rushed and weird and I don't like it
Yo Arkada, I was wondering if you could do something for the Kagerou Days manga. It's not quite finished yet, but it does a good job of holding my attention,
Arkada, could you review Seitokai Yakuindomo? There's a newly released season of it.
I liked the world god only knows, especially Keima as a character. I did think the third season was a bit dumb at the start though. By the end I liked it, especially the end of the last episode and it showing Keima afterwards.
Great review as usual. Any "read the manga" ending is just a production companies way to save money and make more through manga sells. In short, it is a bad marketing scheme that we the customer should rebel against and not pay for. This however, leaves us at the mercy of critics and what ever reviews available to us. Luckily we can trust Arkada and watch him for free on youtube.
10:27 speaking of Welcome to the NHK, any chance of a review of that in the future?
I have a question that i really hope would get answered, what did you personally think, of the change in the character of Keima at the last scene? I wont spoil it for the other watchers and readers here but i think its a very predominant scene that doesnt need pointing out, Thoughts?
Dude, what was with those recommendations? Those two are, like, the opposite ends of the spectrum.
yeah Date a Live works, also maybe Ano Natsu de Matteru for romance aspect of it
Why do people keep suggesting Date a live? It's otaku bait at best.
Nihilism55 because you need to date a girl and kiss them.... its the same formula for twgok
dude you should review "Chuunibyou Demo Koi Ga Shitai"
Jacob Cooper that thing with the crazy kids?...lol
Yeah, I totally feel you... I also feel the emptiness inside me like I was missing some important details... I might as well READ THE MANGA...
Love your work Arkada. Bubble gum crisis Tokyo 2014?
A good recommendation to this show would be Date A Live since both of the protagonists have to make a group if girls fall in love with them.
wow thanks for reminding me i have to finish the last to episodes of that before season 2 airs.
I think Acchi Kochi was also a very good one too. It's like combining Lucky Star with Romance.
-anime spoilers- I really liked the end of the goddess arch.. Not everyone can be a winner, and we were left with Chihiro heart broken on stage, as the odd ball out. Not only that we found the main character on the roof, not looking down at his games, but at his hands, regretting what he'd done (to her)... It put a real nice realization in how much of a douche you can be while running a harem. I was not "happy" with the ending, on the contrary I cried cause Chihiro was awesome. But at the same time.. I was really happy with the ending...
I strongly recommend that you read the manga. its very good and goes into a way deeper story. What was your thoughts on the last episode about chihiro's song and kiema's thoughts??
Lmao glad that you(GR-san) have watched this anime
this was my 1st Anime 😋
God, please read the fucking manga. omg it gets so much better. SOOO MUCH BETTER. not only do you miss like 7 conquests. But the last arc after the goddess arc is fucking amazing. Time travel, a final battle, amazing plot. and guess what? The fucker Keima actually picks a girl at the end of the manga. Not telling who, just fucking read it. please god.
If the time travel arc was an anime it's will be billions better soooooo yeah
It's awfully sad that we never got season 4. When I first watched anime I genuinely thought ending of S3 was "the ending".
But it goes on, and in this it changes A LOT.
Many could complain that the show was heavly upbeat, even with dmeons possesing people, and some ancient war in the background. And it was contrived, every girl (nearly) that needed conquering was around Keima, and all the goddesses were. Heck, even Keima realised it, and deducted godesses need to be close to him, cause it all seemed like it was manufactured specifically for him. That someone set up all these events for him.
And he was right. Moreover, HE was the one that set up the stage. It fills the hole in the story of why he didn't remember Tenri. Not to mention that it explains so happy reality of his life. The past was... dark. And dangerous. There even is a SWAT team massacred by demons.
All the happines is a product of Keima's plan, seting the events in proper way. Even more than that, Keima was the one who painted targets on those girls backs. And realisation fo what he will have to do, nearly breaks him. He wanted to start the whole setup again, try pursuing better future, just so to avoid it.
I ust love the ending, all the loose stings tied together. And the fact it does nto end in harem. Keima chooses one, the only one who ever defied his conquest.
I know this was commented 9 months ago but that hits the nail in the coffin. It's a shame there won't be a season 4 as it would definetly be warranted given the ending. Despite the noise regarding the ending of the manga, it made perfect sense and really is poetic in a sense.
The studio got bankrupt :(
Have you watched Aria The Animation/The Natural/The Origination?
I LOVE YOUR INTRO
"Read the manga"-ending, you say? I disagree, I'd say the ending to this season was actually fairly conclusive. True, there IS another major story-arc after it in the manga (which has recently been announced to be the final one), but this arc was basically set up as like, THE big conclusion that would resolve the entire overarching conflict. And this arc did technically conclude that... only for the manga to then tack on another arc after it which honestly, I find it hard to like as much just because the very premise of it is kinda... what.
Though yeah, them skipping well over a year's worth of manga material was really annoying. Especially seeing how one of those rather important arcs that they completely skipped over, was also one of my favorite arcs in the series. And it DOES bother me that I can't really recommend this anime anymore without adding "Oh, but make sure you also read the manga up to chapter 114 before watching season 3, or else it won't make sense"... That said, as someone who HAS read the manga, I can at least say that this was a fairly good adaptation OF that portion of the story. Even if it is admittedly rather compressed. (Like, there was a semi-prominent demon-character from the manga who was COMPLETELY removed from the anime.) Then again considering how annoyingly long this arc went on for in the manga, maybe them cutting it down a bit was a smart move.
I pretty much flipped my shit when I read the ending to the manga. I haven't been that disappointed by an ending for a long time
why? I think the end was good
TheHenriGame People are just piss that their favorite heroine wasn't chosen. I like the ending. There was logic behind his choosing. Plus if you re-read the Manga and pay close attention there hints the author gave away who Keima like. It was a not a surprise for me when he choose the girl he truly love.
That the only reason why people are mad. I mean even if the author left it open ended where Keima didn't choose a girl. Everyone would have still been mad. So I am glad he ended up with the girl he pick. Just mad he didn't build on them more like give them a whole chapter on how their relationship is going. Not just "Let have some tea"
That the only part I didn't like. I wanted to see more of them together.
darkchaosmaster7
Actually, I didn't have a problem with the girl chosen, it was obvious. My issue was that the ending seemed thrown together with plot stuff that kinda came out of nowhere. Plus there's the whole reset thing that annoyed me as well.
ConstantNexus Well it not the author fault. From a few sources(including him being sad about it ending) have been saying is that the magazine decide to axe the series so that gave the author very short window time.
The whole reset thing what do you mean? The last arc imho was well done it made everything kind fit. It made things go smoother has to why where the girls close to him the host for goddess has as well has to why Elsie was chosen to be Keima buddy.
The only thing I wish was the author expanded more on Keima and Chihiro because the hints are scatter everywhere but it hard to remember them all because they are so scatter it crazy to keep jumping back and forth.
Plus we never got to see Keima Father. I mean who is he. I mean he was able to get Keima Mom who was a biker gang to marry him. So that means he must a GOD as well. I hope in his spin-off he at least address a few of those tings.
darkchaosmaster7 I liked the ending, but I hate when they put time traveling on a manga or anime, that kind of ruined future diary for me
Please review Jormungand. I remember you and Gigguk saying that you both were going to buy it in a past podtaku and was wanting to know what ur thoughts were. I bought it and love the story, animation, and characters and although I love the voice actors in it the dub sometime sound odd. Love both your channels man. Keep doing what you do.
I too didn't read the manga but it didn't really bother me that they skipped some of the girls's arcs , and the ending didn't feel like a "read the manga" ending to me , I hope they do another season but anyways great review as always
