The harem genre is often overlooked due to its commonly poor writing. I myself tend to stay away from it, but this show was too good to pass up. I hope I was able to help demonstrate that.

I think the saddest part is during the concert when Chihiro got a glance of all the goddess around her. Perhaps shes already knew that she cannot compete with other girls but seing them in goddess form must be a huge blow.
Chihiro is the angel with no wings..she's the real heroine of the anime.

me myself held this anime in high regards because its change my life. many people imo kinda dont understand the value of this anime so im glad to find this video.
I can't watch clips from the series, listen to it's music or even think about it without shedding a tear. I can genuinly say that it is the one piece of fiction that touched my heart (and made me cry) the most. I also started it thinking it would be a no-stakes, easy-going harem but found myself absolutely devastated at the end of it.
God only knows how fast I looked up if Keima and Chihiro ended up with eachother after I watched the final episode. The answer to that question didn't do all too much to change my state of emotions though.
The thing that I think really got me is how you don't know right up until the last second of the anime whether or not Keima will tell Chihiro what he thought when he sat on the rooftop bench crying or not, and when you see Chihiro crying at her concert as well you're just hoping with all your heart that the last minute of the last episode will patch everything up, which it doesn't. I think it's a WAAAAAAYYYY better way to end the anime than with them actually making up, since it has such a huge emotional impact, but MAN! You cannot play with my heart that much in only 20 minutes, I could've died of a heart attack.
The second thing which I find really, really sad about the series is how it isn't really that popular. I'm not saying it's super niche but I almost never hear it mentioned by anyone when speaking about anime and I can't get my friends to watch it (their loss) so I have no one to vent my thoughts to.
My last two cents is that Chihiro is indeed the best character (and girl) in the series. The first time I watched it 5 years ago I thought Kanon was best but I have now seen the errors in my ways after rewatching it recently.

TWOGK has got to be my favourite anime of all time, I had re-watched this anime like 4 or 5 times and read the manga once. I had just finished rewatching the anime again and I just had to do something or I will just cry myself to sleep, so here I am lmao.
Just like you, I also agrees that Chihiro is the best girl, and the 2nd best character in the whole story, Keima of course being the best character. And honestly I think it has to do with how both of them are written, or shown to the audience. On 1 hand, Chihiro was established to be a "NPC" of a galgame, not a sporty popular girl at school, not a well-known idol, or a litteral goddess, she is literally just a normal girl that likes handsome boys. On the other hand, Keima was a naive, and somewhat insecure, boy who dwelled into the world of galgames beacuse he didin't like the real world, or rather he was scared of the uncertainties present in the real world, like you mentioned in the video.
To me, Keima was pretty relatable. Not of his knowedge and skills of playing galgame, but his fear for the real world. I stared watching anime to, let's say, escape reality, similar to Keima playing galgame. Seeing Keima grow throughtout the story, really helped me get through some stuff of my own.
Keima, despite having mad skills in pulling girls, it is not hard to see that he is written in a way where many boys would be able to resonate with Keima for being a "normal" person, having fears and insecurity that I am sure many has expreinced it. And this is why Chihiro is the best girl for Keima, it only makes sense that the girl that does not really stand out, or the "normal" girl, is paired up with the "nromal" boy.
Glad to see some more appreciation for TWGOK. At first sight of the characters (playing Mudae game on Discord) it seemed to me like this was just some gimmicky series with some weird character designs, as some girls are wearing these skull things. Then I watched the OP and expected some isekai where a guy discovers some hidden game world and becomes the god of it. But I got curious enough to have a look. And discovered that apart from being well executed, with great voice acting, amazing music and having a nice mix of comedy and cute moments, there were really a few extra layers in the story. Not just the things happening, but indeed also how this affects the main characters, and gradually make them change, season 3 making this very clear, not just at the start, but also at the end. Keima doesn't magically become a totally different person, but his perception of things changes due to what he experiences, and that affects how he responds to certain situations. "I know it's not a game anymore" from the third season OP sums that up really nicely.
Exactly, I went into it with rock-bottom expectations and was surprised over and over again. It's a great show. I wish that the third season was done better, though.
@@Zampakubro I think considering the circumstances, the studio did the best they could do at the time. At some parts it feels a bit rushed perhaps, which no doubt must have been due to the studio's problems looming over their heads.
My main gripe with it was that it felt like the final battle between Vintage and the lost souls team + goddesses was over too soon. That part could have been fleshed out a bit more with how it was edited and the cuts between the different scenes, making it more epic.
@rc-fannl7364 definitely. They did the best they could given the problems they were dealing with. I had talked about those issues in a previous version of the script, but I'll probably address those in a video talking about the final arc of the manga.

While I will always applaud a video calling Chihiro best girl, I think you have some great points about the series. The characters and their development is definitely what puts this series above all other harem series.
I never thought much about the mother in the series, but I like your perspective on how important she is to Keima. I hope you'll dive further into the details of the ending etc. in the next video ;-)
I really liked your video style and its obvious a lot of care has been put into it. For next video, you might want to turn the volume up a notch - I had to almost double the volue I usually use, so maybe a +20 % would make it easier on the ears. Cheers, I'm looking forward to the next one!

I hadn't read nor watched TGWOK until recently. I read the entire manga in a couple of days and I LOVED it, Chihiro was my favorite girl from the first moment she appears, I always cheered for her and wanted her to be happy, and I was SO happy with the ending it was 6:00 AM and I was laughing and kicking off my feet lmao
And then I go to the internet and learn that... A lot of people hated the ending? Saying Keima ending up with her wasnt justified, that he was never in love, that Chihiro is worst girl, etc. Even if you look at the character songs from the anime every girl's song has over 100k EXCEPT for her.
I really don't get it!!; her arc and her being in love with Keima without a proper conquest; her forming a band with her friends and becoming passionate about music; getting worried for Keima even when he told her not to go to his home; her love confession at his door; THE PICK; her revealing she was in love with him EVEN before properly talking to him; her leaving her feelings aside just to help him; Keima getting DEPRESSED and CRYING for breaking her heart... Like, come on!!! And its not just a "her arc was so good" thing, she's a recurring character, and we get her moments through the entire manga.
And also it's so poetic how the biggest real girl hater ends up with the realest of real girls lol She's not the sporty girl, the rich tsundere blond, the dense martial artist, the idol, or the teacher; she's just... Chihiro. She did not follow Keima's plans at all because she really is the representation of a real girl. He didn't have to become another person or constantly follow her for her to fall in love, she fell in love because sometimes people just fall in love without a justification, and Keima being unable to understand this is honestly so cute lol
Then I watched the anime and her moments seem to be even more highlighted (even if they have to skip a few); she got the prettiest visuals and dramatic music, so why was it so surprising to some that Keima would like her?
Tbh the only reason I can think of is that she barely appeared in the last arc (AND EVEN THE ONE MOMENT SHE DID MADE KEIMA REMEMBER WHAT HE DID AND GOT HIM DEPRESSED AGAIN)
@@babithehuman2505 honestly, out of all of the girls, Chihiro is the only one that makes sense in the end. Especially to drive home the point of the story. It's an anti-harem harem story that criticizes and highlights the inherent flaws with the harem genre, and the thing that the harem genre avoids the most is having one canon (no pun intended) choice with a girl that doesn't rely on some gimmick or over-played complex. It's easier to miss just how kuch set-up there was if you haven't read the manga though, considering just how much the anime skips over. Even more so if you hadn't watched the OVAs, which I admittedly didn't do.
I actually just started writing the script covering that last arc, and I'll probably cover the ending pretty thoroughly as well.

I always thought Chihiro was the best for him even from his initial capture, all the other girls he puts on an act to be a character that they can fall in love with but for Chihiro he is just being himself while trying to push her to find her own love. It's one of the first times we see him genuinely interact with a someone outside of Elsee and Haqua even if he shows a lot of annoyance he's still being genuine to her.

O.K. I just watched your video, and there are a few thins I'd like to say:
1) I noticed you used Erased as well, so I'm assuming you watched it. Good choice, I must say. [Casually sneaking that it's my most favourite anime of all time]
2) Um..., this might sound controversial, but I actually enjoyed SAO. I know, it has it's flaws, I know it has some pretty bad moments, but believe me when I'm saying this, do watch the later seasons. Perhaps you might change your mind. A lot of people only watch the season 1 and then they base their entire opinion on that. So please, with all due respect, atleast watch till war of underworld.
3) I disagree with your choice of best girl. IMO, it's Jun Nagase, and you can't convince me otherwise.
4) I agree with your analysis on TWGOK 100%. The fact that the main motive of the story was Keima's own character development is what i feel is absent in most harem shows. Sadly most won't even watch this show.
Anyway, Good video Man! Keima was my inspiration as a kid, and he still is. And not to mention the music in series is literally god tier, and carefully crafted.
Having said that, I also request you to watch "Happy sugar life" and make a video on it.

Yeah The world god only knows was my favorite Harem anime . The only thing i didn't like about it is they skipped some of the episodes in Anime S3 there were so many people we didn't know yet

its great, I read the original book and then re-watched it back to back, its a great show. I want to do a video on it some time too.
The biggest problem with this anime is gap between seson 2 and seson 3 , before I watched this video I finished the manga and ow boy It was worth it ! Now I know what was that big gap . For real if you guys really liked season 1 and 2 then go read manga to know that is going on in seson3.

Absolutely, the gap between 2 and 3 makes it all so jarring, especially with the critical roles a lot of the "unknown" heroines play. It kinda wrecks the dynamic between a few of the characters, even if they try to compensate via flashbacks to some OVAs. I would've addressed it more, but I figure I'll make a video about the third season and the final arc of the manga some time. Working on some other topics currently, though.
Hey! This series is Phenomenal, an amazing watch. However, like you said, the manga does go further, and it’s actually a bigger arc than the goddess arc. I really enjoy the final arc after the Goddess Arc because like what you show in this video, a lot of it is about kind of his the realization of the consequences for these conquests.

My biggest problem with the anime adaptation was honestly the fact we didn't get to see Keima's "conquest" of Yui and Tsukiyo, despite their importance in the third season. Apart from that, it was a show I thoroughly enjoyed from start to end, and I still consider it a favourite anime of mine
Yeah, the third season dropped the ball as far as context went. It's even worse when you don't watch the OVAs before going into S3, which was the case for myself. But it was still a great watch, and the final arc of the manga was even better.
@@ZampakubroOh yeah, I had absolutely no clue who Tenri was when I first watched season 3, despite the anime acting like we should know her. I prefer the manga over the anime if only for the missing arcs between season 2 and 3, but the music alone makes watching the anime worth it anyways. And yeah, agreed, final arc of the manga was great stuff
I watched the anime right after reading the manga, and I was honestly so pissed off of how much they skip and how FAST the pacing is for like the first 3 episodes of season 3 lol I understand why they would skip the Ramen and shogi girl, but Yui and Tsukiyo are LITERALLY goddesses hosts!!

Kinda funny with Chihiro cause even on her initial conquest, Keima never actually tried seducing her. The entire time he was helping Chihiro get someone else, she still fell for him however
Also, yeah, right on point that Keima really gets fucked up everytime he encounters a former conquest. Just meeting two of former conquest who for got him was enough to put him down for a day
I do disagree that the studio handled the Goddess arc well cause they cut off some plot points that highlighted Keima's character like how pained he was when meeting former conquests, the Vintage side plots like the captured devil they got that Haqua accidentally released cause of her beliefs and most importantly cutting off a lot of the heroine's conquest to skip to the Goddess arc
However, Memory of my First Love was a complete peak episode
@doctoc684 yeah, I think I went a bit too easy on the third season story-wise. it really screws up the extra work and exposition that the manga set up for the goddess arc, especially with not knowing half of the girls who actually show up. It fucked with me pretty hard since I was initially just binging it and had no idea about the content it skipped at first. I'm really curious how that whole thing went down with the studio, because it was a really weird decision to make the later conquests OVAs as opposed to a third season. But who knows, it was probably budget or time constraints or some other business factors.
