This was the era, man. It was still an easy waltz up to the front row of a venue, and they were just glowing every performance, not a single bad song in their discography. You could hang out after the show and meet the band still, and they were growing into superstars. It was something special to be there for the rise to major label and beyond.
I bought this on iTunes years ago, not sure how but I accidentally pressed something and it started playing on my phone. Haven’t thought of this band in forever, best button pressing mistake I’ve had. Welcome 2020, be safe.
14 years ago. I’m 30 now, and this is as good as it was when I heard it 14 years ago, not to mention their earlier albums. Gaslight always holds a place in my heart.
This is my favorite band, hands down. The progression of this band from their album Sink or Swim, to The '59 Sound, and now to American Slang, is one that might be confused with a drift toward a commercial sound, and some have said as much. However, I think the progression is one of growth in songwriting and storytelling and musical strength. Keep it going Brian Fallon and guys. Music needs you.
I first discovered the Gaslight Anthem in 2009 when they supported Bruce at Hyde Park in London & I feel in love they are great I hope they could reform they a my second favourite band behind the E Street Band. Bruce did a dvd of the above concert & Brian joined him on stage to sing No Surrender & you can see myself & a friend in the crowd! A brilliant memory & a brilliant band!
Saw them opening for The Killers at Wembley Stadium, I was already a fan but seeing them made me enjoy their music so much more. One of the best bands going.
Real life later-day rock n' rollers. I love this group and this track so much! East-coast, urban, working class...they're like the bastard sons of Bruce Springsteen.
Gaslight Anthem is the best of both worlds. It's like the music my dad raised me on and the music I began listening to as I got older had a baby. My dad's hooked on them now too. =)
I Highly Suggest that anyone who likes this song/band to listen to AM Taxi. I'm certain you will love them. They're new but I'm sure they will get much bigger soon.
This song has grown on me over the months. I now think it is fantastic. I can say that I really like each of their records and look forward to the next. These guys are great and have genuine charisma. That is is pretty rare today.
SO UNDER RATED!!! i love listening to bands that deserve more to be famous, and then watching them become loved by all the smart people!!! HAVE ANY BANDS LIKE GA IN MIND????!!!! i really like the small "un famous" stuff.
xAlyssaJones37 I have a vivid memory of going over the Manhattan Bridge on a train listening to this, and watching that skyline with this song... sigh...
This album is just another classic waiting to happen, they're finding their own voice, style and rhythm. The whole album is one amazin song after another! I love these lads, my all time band no question! And remember lads and lasses I'da called you Woody, Joe.
@MattyE191 completely agree. The Killers and The Gaslight are my two favourite bands and they don't sound the same at all. Different styles, both influenced by Bruce though so thats probably where the similarity is heard..
For some strange reason, I was listening to another band, when American Slang popped up in the sidebar. I think UA-cam's trying to tell me something ;) Cracking band and song, if Biloxi Parish is anything to go by, the new album's gonna be great.
Wait, this is meant to be punk? I was listening to this thinking "hey this is pretty decent pop rock" but it's meant to be punk? That's kind of pathetic ahahaha.
@@UlyssesJF Not really. With this album they shifted pretty much completely to pop rock/heartland rock. IMO, it's their best album, but definitely not punk in the conventional sense. Their first album (Sink or Swim) is a lot more quintessentially 2000s punk, and their second album (59 Sound) starts transitioning away from that toward this sound, but I could see how it could still be considered pop punk.
I love this band soooo much. This video is awesome too; the images are so simple but they manage to convey the meaning of the song so well. Just convinced me to apply at the college I liked in New Jersey also :)
@oregonflatland I find American Slang is different but as good as the 59 sound all the same. The songs have that same Gaslight feel as well as the emotion that they are known for by their fans. Great Album.
They aren't punk to me. Maybe Sink Or Swim, but to me the Gaslight Anthem is just a great rock and roll band with great influences. And it shows. I'm a dedicated listener to the greatest young rock band out there. '59 Sound = One of the better albums I've heard in a long time. American Slang = A great follow up to a practically perfect album.
I drummed on it 8 times in a row and now i'm soaked in swet but i just cant stop, awesome song! I'm not sure yet but i think i'm going to cover this song :p
I was sure Brandon Flowers was singing on this song particularly in the later part of the song. Guess not but they have a Killer’s esq sound on this one imo.
This one will always remind me of you brandie rose ... in fact I tattooed you on me jamming this when you were in rehab..... now you are gone and I still pay respect to my soulmate as you were !!
haha have a look at 1:09, the guys wearing a wicked cap from a german footballclub that is considered to have the funniest and most passionate fans in Germany, whenever the score a goal at home, they start jumpin around listening to blurs song2! great! ;)

Real life later-day rock n' rollers. I love this group and this track so much! East-coast, urban, working class...they're like the bastard sons of Bruce Springsteen.
When I think about the pandemic years, I will think about how Brian Fallon and all his musical projects kept the spirit of live music in my heart.
I heard this song at Hardrock cafe Rome and I immediately fell in love with it
My late brother's fav band i will always remember when he showed me this song same as jimmy eat world... alternative rock

Gaslight Anthem is the best of both worlds. It's like the music my dad raised me on and the music I began listening to as I got older had a baby. My dad's hooked on them now too. =)

The gaslighters are a great band and her sounds are fantastic Rock`n Roll.
This song has grown on me over the months. I now think it is fantastic. I can say that I really like each of their records and look forward to the next. These guys are great and have genuine charisma. That is is pretty rare today.

If you ever drive to New York City, make sure you put this on when you're halfway through the Lincoln Tunnel. Just do it.

Trying to get back to New Jersey? Or have that identity still
And head down to Asbury Park. Silverball and the Wonderbar.
For the record, if anybody hasnt seen them in concert, they put on a SWEET show!
This album is just another classic waiting to happen, they're finding their own voice, style and rhythm. The whole album is one amazin song after another! I love these lads, my all time band no question! And remember lads and lasses I'da called you Woody, Joe.
The day they will release a new record, there will be a great party! Wait for that day! 😊👍
Saw these guys open for Rise Against in Montreal, and they were pretty damn good,
Man, this is easily one of my favorite bands making music right now, but is it really so hard to make a music video that doesn't suck.

One of bests songwriters in modern punk. FCSP

@BlastFromYesterday Yes, the album is also "American Slang"
Just Good Music
Great song. I wonder where the inspiration for the lyrics came from? They just seem to evoke such passion
