- There has been over 10 years of research and development of Artificial Intelligence in StarCraft 1. Even companies as big as Samsung and Facebook have made strong bots which have competed in the game.
I downloaded the bots and played games against the best of them. I was shocked at how strong some of them were.

Love how nerdy the bot programmers are "Locutus" was the name Captain Picard recieved by the Borg when he was assimilated into their culture and was meant to lead the Borg in the assimilation of the entire human race. So basically, this bot is meant to assimilate you

Seems like the Protoss was actually in the lead for a long time in the last game but wasn't sophisticated enough to know where to recall and do other game ending moves
Yeah it macro'd really well and expanded everywhere which is what a Toss should do in the matchup. It didn't use recall, or storm at all and seemed more programmed to send waves of units at the Terran. Since Artosis has good positioning with his tanks and mines, the bot basically threw away thousands of minerals and gas for free. Also the bot seemed to have a hard time coordinating its stasis use when attacking the tank lines. Really impressive bot though!

Damn the way you just naturally kite zerglings while casually building and knowing that kind of hotkeying is a very basic skill in this game just reminds me how insane pro brood war players really are.
Man, the old graphics look beautiful. Broodwar is timeless.

An ai that makes about a 1000 vultures and runs them all in to lay a 1000 mines runs out watch the mines explode and mobs up whatever is left.
Make it please.
I want to see it done and optimised with 10000-20000 apm.
The real advancement in AI will happen when it knows that it's beat and GG's.
I just played the best 2 bots on there. They're pretty good. I 12 nexus thinking the bot wouldn't exploit me but the terran bunkered the expo. That's pretty high level for a bot.
These games were really interesting. It's nice to see BW bots are so advanced.
Making regularly (every 6 months?) such videos would be great to see what is the state of things.

I did several bo5's against Krasio a year or two ago for Jackson - I think you'd know him. Singaporian guy who's at the Afreeca studio a lot. I haven't been to the studio for a while so I'm not sure how often he's there anymore.
Anyways, I found it easy to throw off with early game aggression in PvT. 3 gate dragoon was a for sure win every time; bulldogging was real effective; reaver play was 50/50 depending on the build it went for - seems to play real safe and cover all of it's bases which is it's biggest downfall in the early game. Seems to be the case with other A.I. as well. However, if it's allowed to get a macro engine up, I'm not sure how many people out there would be capable of beating it. I lost every single macro game against it, even several games that I went into the mid game with holding a fair advantage. It definitely takes a mile if you give it a foot. Though, not that surprising if you consider the ridiculous unit control it has (wraiths and vultures, as your pointed out, are particularly ridonculous) and the fact that it runs like 5,000apm late into the game.
That last bot was impressive.

You do realize that these bots (not these, i mean alphastar; the best of them all) are toned way down to about human APM, right? If you remove that handicap, the AI will outmicro a human player, outmacro him, then shit on his grave.
Theres a reason i will always oppose putting AI on military hardware. A machine is capable of processing millions times faster than a lowly animal, like a human. Even the basic AI that BW comes with, microes every single unit it has simultaneously. Havent noticed that? Take a good look, when you raid its mineral line, and pay close attention to how workers react to being shot at. Should open your eyes a little.
@@LiezAllLiez That explains it. I was wondering, can't Zerg AI just obliterate anyone? They should be able to micro an infinite amount of muta groups while humans can only do one and they can pull an irradiated muta pretty much instantly.
@@KuraiChanZ Effectively, the AI would be capable of microing every single unit it has simultaneously, but individually at the same time. There was a video about a AI, where zerglings obliterated a bunch of sieged up tanks. Will edit this post if i find it, brb.

if artosis hadn't shut it down that muta ball can literally end up with 100 mutalisks in it
Amazing plays, weird to see a top level player not repair his units - especially when maxed out, an army of all green Wraiths would be economically better than an army of partly red/yellow wraiths -- but seems like Artosis isn't too hung up on repairing mostly. More importantly - good seeing the original (not Remastered) version of the game, just sick to think this computer game has 24 years now in 2022 - still love it. To be honest - no one bothers what the age of chess is.

Nice support for the project! Would it be possible for you to play against two of the bots that you find comeptitive? That would be more of a challenge.

i like games against advanced bots, but.. This a littble bit broken because you play terran and as result you have tanks. Bots generally are weak againts tanks. Long to explain, but I think it would be much more interesting if you will play zerg or protoss

Interesting, does it work with Remastered? I imagine it ought to, although Artosis is playing on standard.
*To answer my own question, the FAQ says 'no'. It'd be up to Blizzard to make it work, rather than a fix they can do themselves.
That surprises me since SCR wasn't really changed except for skins. Oh I see why it won't work with SCR because this client is not the same version as the 'normal' client.

Artosis got a pretty bad rap from his fellow professionals sometimes for his "3rd or 4th place runner up" appearances, but watching his skill hold up is pretty damn impressive.
1:44:00 If they hadn't have built a third base way out on the map and you didn't see it. There is potential for them to stay reasonable on econ, but send a few more drones to build sunken colonies for defence, no? Like did that base at the top get cancelled or?
Or perhaps without the third they can get a few hydras out more quickly with maybe Evo Chambre blocking some direct fire on the sunkens for a little bit?

As A.I. works, it needs time to learn about its opponent. One game against is not enough. You have to "train" it.

Alpha star only knows a few maps and can only play within those maps.
Why doesn't sc2 have something like this? It would be nice to play against alphastar in custom games.

How do we get to play against bots with BW:re? I'd like to take on some stronger level AI because the original AI is just garbage...
Anyone able to point me in the right direction? It would be a fun way to kill time against higher level AI :)
some of these maps or games are so easy I can take them. But the hard ones I die in 8 min. I like how 2:04:00 the probe steals mineral from your base.
Can you check in replays how much APM the bots were using?
From what I know they took the average apm that a pro player has and limited the bot to that apm so that it wouldnt be unfair.
I downloaded them and played them, they had 5 thousands Apm, their core strategy is to using range unit and keep it with a safe distance and fan out, and just keep poking you. I don’t think those AI are smart, they are just insane microbot
@@sanhehu8708 There are some bots with predefined first minute strategies to catch you off guard, like Terran Iron sending early vultures on move command at your mineral line to kill workers, or Microwave lurker rush.., there was a Toss with early dt drop as well. But otherwise yeah, it's pretty much what you explained.
Does these Bots are using map hack like the classic ones?
I don't know the details of these particular bots, but no serious BW bot has map hacks.
