2 1/2 years ago I got the G233 and fell in love with it. last spring I added the I-pro slim shaft and a 11 in extension. what a great kit. I already spec out a break cue I want them to build me this winter. Im not crazy about the stinger I bought.
Nice review as always. I got the valhalla by viking based on your review and it truly is amazing. It's so cheap compared to your other sticks but its the best stick ive ever owned. Keep up the great work good sir!
Same here! I just started playing and because of his review I bought a Valhalla. It took me a while to get used to it but I really like it now. The taper is a little thick for me but, overall, it’s a great cue.
I still rep McDermott. I've been building on the same Star series for over a year. Started with the Star with traditional maple shaft and loved it. Got a used G core shaft for it and immediately noticed a difference. I got it cheap because it had a hairline crack starting in ferrule. Played with it constantly until it finally cracked through. Bought a used Defy to use while the g core was off at McDermott getting a new ferrule, turned down to 12.5 and a Kamui Clear Soft Tip. It's a good shaft and like it even more. It's a gen 1, so the coating doesn't work well with skin, but shoots great with a glove. Now I have a Star Butt, G Core Shaft, Traditional Maple Shaft, and a Defy Shaft all for less than $500. I'm pretty happy about it and love the way they play. Lately I've been using the 12.5mm G Core shaft more than the defy. I find the Kamui soft tip and ability to precisely strike the ball has helped me dial in my cue ball control.
Me too, lucky #1 butt, Gcore with matching one ring, McDermott traditional maple shaft both at 12.00mm and a FCS Rhino shaft at 11.8 mm. Altogether below $550.
i have 3 mcdermotts in my bag my first one is a m2k1 bought in 2002 and i used it for years. my second is a g-core cue the g308 which i picked up in 2022 and my 3rd is also a g-core but the g326. they are great cues and have never let me down
I have an older McDermott with G Core as my bar cue. There is nothing lower end with their USA made cues. Plays better and has far superior quality control than any overpriced mystery location Chinese made Predator cues.
Hey there! To get the ball to jump that way is essentially a low-height jump shot done with a standard playing cue. If you've ever tried jump shots with a playing cue you'll know it's really hard to get good height (hence jump cues exist to make it MUCH easier!) You can elevate the cue and get it to jump a bit, and if you're fairly close to a rail you can do this type of semi-jump shot, and the ball should hit the rail under acceleration (i.e. still on it's way up), and it will bounce off the rail whilst continuing going up. It's kind of a cheat way of jumping balls with a standard cue, but only works close to the rail (too far away and the ball will not be on an upward trajectory when it hits the rail, which is the important part).I think I added some spin to help curve it back in towards the rear pocket. Hope that helps! 👍
I almost bought one a lot of people I know shoot with a McDermott in my area they are worth their weight and gold I wanted a carbon fiber cue only reason I didn’t get a g core
@@AverageJoesPool I went with a raven cue they are the new have their own website or you can find them at ars billiards in California or on their website
Do you have a video explaining your technical tests? I recently getting back into the game of pool. (APA SL2) trying get my skill back up. Things like squirt and pivot point I'm not understanding.
We are considering putting one together, exactly for the reasoning you have mentioned. But we have a hectic schedule and so maybe we won't get to it (anytime soon at least). For technical things such as squirt and natural pivot length, Dr Dave is one of the best out there for explaining these kinds of concepts. Take a look here: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/cue/natural-pivot-length/ and here: billiards.colostate.edu/faq/squirt/ - hope that helps 👍
That's a nice butt, I also own the G208 which is an identical design but finished in red stain rather than grey on the G209. Good to hear you are enjoying your Bull CF shaft 👍
I believe (?) that the Fury HTE is an all-maple shaft? If so, the main difference here would be the carbon fiber insert inside of the G-Core shaft. Hope that helps! 👍
Nope, but with G-Core, I2, I3, Pro shaft and Pro Slim shafts carry a lifetime warranty for warping. Full carbon shaft still number one when discussing warping.
abrahamagdamag9275 has nailed it! Full CF shafts are the most warp-resistant for sure. In theory the i shafts from McDermott should be more warp resistant than the G-Core as their CF insert runs the full shaft length. All McDermott shafts have a full lifetime warranty, including cover for warpage. Hope that helps 👍
@@abrahamagdamag9275 Lol life time warranty is useless not unless If You can predict the Company not going into bankruptcy in the near future.. just like other cue makers going bankrupt like OB cues. Just go for the carbon shaft!
You can buy them from Amazon.com via the links in the Video Description. and Amazon should ship anywhere in the world for you. Also you could try the McDermott website too. Hope that helps 👍
Some of us prefer the more natural feel of a wooden or wood with cf insert shaft. I guess it’s just what we’re used to having played wooden shafts since the early 1970s. I suppose I could get used to a carbon fiber shaft as well if I were to put in the time to get comfortable with it but, as it is, I am very pleased with my G-core and I series shafts.
@@coreycallahan7443 Yes, I think personal preferences, been using wood shaft all may pool playing for like 10 years when I shifted to carbon I think, I played much better.
@@boogeyman9773 I’m sure there is one in my future but I love the way my cues shoot now with the I series, G-Core and all-maple shafts. Plus, I’m old school and love the way my cues look. It makes me want to shoot them more and with the money a really nice cf shaft would cost I can trick out my Harleys a little more lol.
Well, that would be just for a shaft, whereas this is a full cue and so not directly comparable. But if you have a decent butt you're happy with then indeed this would be a good upgrade (and logical approach!) 👍

do you have any cue recommendations that has a 12mm+ (12.75, 12.5) stock tip that isnt too expensive as well ?

There's nothing about a $400 to $1000 cue stick that makes me believe I'd shoot any better with it than with my $100 cue.
