I'm glad this band is finally getting the recognition it has deserved for the last 30 years. One of the very few musical artists/bands that really made a difference in my life.
Absolutely-they were ignored and dismissed back in the day as being "uncool" in favour of grunge and Britpop. They're more popular now than ever. In the two decades I've been a fan I've seen and heard their influence in so many new bands and genres. They were truly ahead of their time.
I have no idea why you are thinking that way, they are and always have been the biggest shoegaze band out there, lol
they were pretty popular at some point but were quickly replaced by britpop, mainly by the british media

There's something so youthful about Slowdive's music, and I love that they're able to update their style with the changing times.
I think they've improved so much. As much as I loved them back in the day, the 2017 album is my favourite thus far. Very excited for this new one and love this song. It's really great when bands get better with age. So few actually do.
No need to update the style tho, it was good enough already
It is youthful, isn't it? They look more like everyday parents now than even when they reunited, yet they maintain such a youthful yearning in their sound that underscores why they're such incredible artists.

I was lucky enough to see this live and they absolutely killed it. You could tell it meant a lot to the band to be there and they pulled a great crowd!
Same as. The crowd loved it. It was funny how at most songs you could just see people barely swaying in time with the music followed by a massive cheer when the songs finished. Legendary performance for me. Golden Hair at the end was fucking unreal as well.
Yes all so inspiring. If you need a festival to discover pre Internet bands then maybe do some better research. Slowdive quite rightly have a place at the indie top table. They always have ❤

I NEVER went off Slowdive. I loved them even when the press and public moved on. The music was always timeless to me and Halstead is one of the finest songwriters of his generation. Slowdive, solo, Mojave 3. All of it.
I need to look for his solo stuff
No one who is a fan did. It's just the mainstream press that lost interest but that happens with anything that isn't trendy.

I've listened to Slowdive since 1990 & remembering getting a fan letter from them too & very much love 'kisses' & their live performance at Glastonbury was great. The video to this track is also excellent.

Was standing next to dave grohl in the crowd you could tell how much he loves slowdive. First time I'd seen them since 1990 they were amazing then even better now

Dave's a shoegaze fan, he often cites My Bloody Valentine as a influence. "Show Me How" on the new Foo Fighters album is very shoegaze influenced
slowdive ages like good wine. more intoxicating and bittersweet the older I get. i hope they know how much they are cherished

slowdive: yes
The sound engineer needs to be sacked! This sounds ok but the overall sound was really poor for most of their set.
@ LaurentDieste It was flat and vocals and Juno 106 was way too dry. You know nothing, new jack poser.
sound engineer: puts zero on the vocals even though there is tons on their recording.
Feel like it ruins their live sound having dry vocals imo
I like when live is different from the record. And it's nice if they feel comfortable having their vox dry. I feel it elevates them. Gives me that electronic vs rock New Order vibe
@@jorgepeterbarton You're right. They're terrible singers, live (especially Neil). But their fragile voices are perfect for the band's concept. They just needed that excessive reverb that makes them sound so spacious and ethereal on their records.

Thank goodness they never gave up. Each member played in other projects, regrouping first to tour, then record new music. The music world finally caught up to them.

I saw Slowdive a twice after their last album release, what I found interesting, is how differently they interpreted their old songs. It would be so awesome, if they released an album with old songs newly recorded and interpreted.
had the pleasure of seeing them live three times since they reformed. A perfect band. Their live shows are consistently beautiful experiences.
a dreamy and somewhat cryptic song that seems to explore the theme of seeking fulfillment in new experiences and the impact of fleeting moments ... the song starts with the singer acknowledging the affirmation of being the "best thing" to someone, yet questioning if that is truly what they need ... this ambivalent sentiment is characterized by the chorus repeating the phrase "born desert sun" multiple times, which could represent the transience and warmth of a fleeting moment ...
the second verse introduces the idea of leaving behind previous struggles and "ghosts" to start anew in a car ... however, the singer questions what is truly necessary for a fresh start, and whether "living with the truth" is enough ... the song seems to acknowledge that sometimes the "new thing" or "kisses" might be enough to provide temporary satisfaction, but it is unclear whether this will truly lead to a fulfilling and lasting sense of happiness ....

love it! i got into slowdive with their 1st wonderful album and i am so happy about their amazing comeback years ago, and even more happy that there will be a new album. i hope they will come to berlin to see them live. kisses is wonderful, this live version is beautiful, they are really into their music and are emotional while performing. we love you!
they seem to have more fans now, also many young people, they get now, what they always deserved for their timeless bittersweet and sometimes psychedelic music. one of the most original bands, who influenced so many musicians. living legends!
