  • ALL SRI LANKA VLOGS: tinyurl.com/r2s4ypn
After trying to get out of the creative block while feeling a little bit under the weather this week, I have managed to finish editing Jaffna's episode. This is by far, the most difficult to put together, yet a very special episode for me to film and edit. I was blown away by the raw feeling Jaffna has given me due to its long history of civil war and how it made me fall in love with Jaffna.

    ABOUT ME:
In 2013, I started my solo travel journey, leaving Indonesia in 2016 to become a full-time traveler and UA-cam creator. My background in International Relations has fueled a profound interest in exploring different countries. My content focuses on exploring different cultures through the lens of a solo female traveler, aiming to capture real-life interactions and experiences.
My travels kicked off with a five-month trip across Asia, after which I moved to China in January 2017 to work as an English teacher-my first time living abroad. I left China in 2018 to fully commit to creating videos on UA-cam, where I share my travels and the cultures I encounter.
Living nomadically since 2016, I settled in England in early 2022 after marrying my British husband, David. Now based in the UK, I continue to travel and share my adventures on UA-cam.

    Hello everyone,
I hope that you have had a great weekend so far. I have been feeling unwell and stuck with a creative block this week making it more difficult to edit Jaffna episode. This is by far, the most difficult videos to put together from Sri Lanka series, yet this is a very special episode for me to film and edit. I was blown away by the raw feeling Jaffna has given me due to its long history of civil war and how it made me fell in love with Jaffna. Thank you to all the supportive comments, it does mean a lot!

Jaffna is a beautiful place with very talented people. Hopefully, everything will go well in the future and Jaffna will become one of the key cities in Sri Lanka in terms of the economy. Also, hope that our Tamils get to explore more on politics and appoint politicians that stand for a strong united Sri Lanka. We can make this blessed land the best in the region if we all work together. Let's keep the things that separate us aside because after all, we all are the same. Tamil and Sinhala are both just languages. Our religions that we adhere to are there to guide us to live a peaceful life. So there shouldn't be any arguments about it. Let's all make a more inclusive society. Sinhalese should learn Tamil and Tamils should learn Sinhala. This should be made a compulsory thing. Once we get to understand each other much better then we will feel the same even if anything else does not work out.

Absolutely right! Well said! Lots of love from Jaffna. Let's stand together as Sri Lankans.
Sentimentally and emotionally triggering politics won't help the country grow. That's what dragged us decades behind. Otherwise we would have surpassed many other developed countries by now!
Atleast by now we stand together, do constructive politics and march forward as Sri Lankans.
      Suba pathum obatai sahodaraya!

@@mkalimuthu3275 in 1956 the government made a mistake making sinhala language the only national language of SL , therefore the socialists standed against it. They were talking about tamils rights. At the same time in 1976 a low caste tamil person (you know who) killed a high caste tamil politician(Alphard Doreiyappa) , I don't know why. But after that people made that murderer a hero. Indian politicians funded him , trained him to fight againsts other two nationalities of sri lanka. With the power of Tamilnadu he brainwashed poor people , made an army. And he did it. Slaughtered non tamils.
Because of that bloody war we lost nearly 50 000 lives , Sri lankan lives. Now peace is stablished. But still Tamilnadu tries to make problems here in sri lanka ( what are they doing against muralitharan and the movie based on his life ?). If there wasn't Tamilnadu the only civil war that we were having has happened to be socialists civil war in 1971 and 1988/1989 where the sinhalese , tamils and Muslims faught together against the ruthless government.

@@kanishka__ you are cleverly and purposely accusing Tamil Nadu for the discrimination introduced by the Sinhalese Buddhist against the people of Tamil origin. The civil war started not only because of the language policy but the barriers you people introduced against Tamil people via national policies that targeted their agricultural land to be occupied by sinhalese peasants, prevented them from entering higher education despite higher qualification, planned destruction of their educational infrastructure and ultimately state sponsored violence that were participated by Sinhalese civilians that contributed to armed confrontation. Tamil Nadu followed the issues and supported the Tamil people and until now the people of Tamil Nadu are disgusted by action of Sinhalese that do not learn from past mistakes and continue to sideline and deny the rights of Tamils. That is why they oppose pro sinhalese agenda and personalities and you are using that to blame Tamil Nadu for your civil problems that is introduced by your politicians. Don't use a crime of caste violence to justify discriminations. And what are you blabbering regarding the power of Tamil Nadu and bla...bla...bla. What power they have and what they do? Who did what to whom.....everybody knows that. Only one positive side as you said there is peace in the land but otherwise nothing changed politically for Tamil people of Sri Lanka.

Your srilankan politics like south Africa. It is black and white European settlers. In srilanka between hindus and budiest sinhalese. Majority try to rule minority. See india how bigger it is both in size and population. Indian constitution give equality for hindus, muslim, Christian in this country. 100 cr. Hindu never over power minority religion. Srilanka cannot rule only Buddhist alone.

I really want to live very freely, get to know the world in more deeply but I just cant. All I can do right now is just working in the office, chasing the deadlines and surviving in a concrete jungle such as Jakarta. I am not judging the city badly, I just dont like this kind of life though. I really want to be like you yet I acknowledge that I dont have such proclivity. I am too shy to speak very fluently and confidently in front of camera as much as you did after all this time. All in all, please do more good things like this. But they will open up if you go to the local toddy store 😀, it is called "thavaranai" not if we still have them . Thank you for traveling and showing the Jaffna life through your lenses..!

Nice video but it is better to avoid political comments as it is very sensitive. Tamils have lost so much since independence, they weren’t favoured by British but Tamils worked hard for British and invested in their community while Sinhalies who worked for British accumulated extreme wealth for themselves and their families. By the time Sri Lanka got independence there were many Sinhala people had been left down by Sinhala leader. So They turned Sinhala people against Tamil to safeguard their wealth and positions in administration. That is the root cause of this bloody war.

பகித்தறி probably why 50/50 for a 80/10/10 in 1948 after 150 british rule , limited identity syndrome is the root cause of the evil past, time to change for the sake of the innocent souls who have suffered immensely last thirty years

    • @user-th5ch5ft8g

j gunathilaka Sinhala politicians wanted to exploit the entire country and it’s resources in 1948, that is why Tamils were asking for 50/50 power. Democracy is based on land, in 1948 Tamil had equal amount of land that is why Sinhala government forcefully remove Tamils from their home land and aggressively increased Sinhala settlements into Tamils home land since independence. Sinhala government significantly achieved the land grabbing from Tamil but they couldn’t exploit even 1% of land and it’s resources as Tamils fought for their mother land.

You guys try to act civil but never disappoints when it comes to reminding us of your agenda. You still try to justify separatism. You say sinhalese are not allowed to settle in the north because it threatens tamils? Then what about the tamils in the south? You can't respect other cultures and beliefs. You are all the same. You guys are searching for conflict.
Sri lanka is a sinhalese buddhist country. Accept that. Live your life peacefully and we will do the same. Sri lanka was ruled by sinhalese kings as far as the history of this country goes. Except when it was invaded. And even the tamil kings in jaffna were submitted to sinhala kings until Portuguese came. Learn history first.
But now those things doesn't matter. We are all sri lankan. This country is not separated into areas according to race or religion. Everyone has the right to live any where in the country. Remember that.
