- In today's video, we said yes to the 5 hour drive north to the city of Jaffna.
After spending nearly 2 months in predominantly the Sinhala speaking regions, we got a taste of what the Tamil culture feels like.
Whilst in Jaffna, we sampled plenty of local food (that has similarities to the South Indian cuisine), embraced the Hindu religion whilst attending the Nallur Temple and cooled off in a freshwater natural springs located next to the sea.

I've done a round island trip hugging the coast line on honda XR's. Maybe you felt the distance and was more tired riding that scooter. Plus the heat in the north really can sap the energy levels out if you ride during the hot parts of the day. As for accomodation, Jaffna has some really nice places...from smaller hotels to more high end boutique setups. Prices are obviously subjective but being a local, I always thought it was reasonable. Jaffna has some great flavors to offer on it's cuisine. Especially on the seafood front. The crab curry and the the Jaffna Kool are standouts for me. Glad you guys had a safe and enjoyable visit

I have mentioned many of my comments I was born & raised in kandy my parents from northern province ( 20 miles away from Jaffna ) I spent equal times in Jaffna kandy & Colombo

This symbolizes all the negativity inside us that should flow out of the mind and body.The soft inner part of the coconut symbolizes peace and is also distributed as prasad (offering) among the people.
The temple will collect coconut pieces on the ground for cooking and making coconut oil, so it's not wasted.

@@2Backpacks1Globe That's completely false. Sri Lankan Tamil cuisine and Sinhalese cuisine are close to South Indian cuisine but there are still differences. Sri Lankan Tamil food is not Indian food, it's different!
Just for information, Sri Lankan Tamil are not from India but native to the island. Only the Hill Tamils (Central Sri Lanka) are descendant of endured servant from South India.
@@2Backpacks1Globe Some typical Sri Lankan Tamil food I would recommend are Kottu Rotti, Jaffna Crab Curry, Kool (kind of a seafood soup) and Pongal (sweet rice but it's a special dish during Pongal festival). For dessert I would recommend to try Faluda (rose milk with ice cream) and Payasam (coconut milk with tapioca perle and vermicelli).
