  • What a dream it must be to meet Queen Elizabeth II. Such an honor is highly unlikely for most people, but for those who are fortunate enough to be in Her Majesty’s presence, it must truly be special. Of course, as one might expect, there are rules you must follow if you ever meet the Queen. But do these rules apply to everyone?
People can’t just drop in to greet the Queen whenever they please. But what about her family and those in her inner circle? Are they able to stop by for a surprise visit? These are the only people who can visit the Queen uninvited.

My late dad was on duty at Balmoral Castle in Scotland during the 1950’s, when he served in the Gordon Highlanders. He attended a ball while there with the royals in residence. Apparently you cannot ask them for a dance, they have to request it….first he danced with princess margaret, the queens sister, followed by a dance with the queen mother. As he told the story, the queen mother told him her daughter’s thought he was very handsome in his kilt, and she was quite inclined to agree……he also had to sign the official secrets act on several occasions, he took those secrets with him…..much to my dismay 😂

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm sorry most people don't follow this important rule of etiquette.
I don't drop in on my own mother without phoning first and giving plenty of notice. I never have.
A friend was wondering if she could put a discreet sign on her door to indicate whether or not she's receiving visitors. I encouraged her to do so.
Now I'm thinking about getting one myself. I'm annoyed that people feel free to drop by to visit when I'm not expecting them. I don't drop in on others unannounced or unexpected, so I'm perplexed as to why others think it's acceptable to do so. As I feel no obligation to answer the door and almost never do, the real wonder is that they keep coming by, even after I've informed them I don't answer the door unless I'm expecting someone.
The best rule, imo, is to not go to anyone's home unless you are invited. If you want to see someone, invite them to your home, to meet you for a meal or a coffee at a restaurant, or for a walk at a local park.

Since I was of a young age my father was senior officer in the military and we lived on a military base. Two or three times a year my parents took me and my brother to the officers' mess on Sundays for multi-course meal, with lots and lots of cutlery / silverware / flatware, and with at least 4 courses. There we were taught how to pull a chair, to sit with good posture, how to lay a napkin, how to spoon soup (you spoon it away from you), how not to stare, how to engage in polite conversation ... and how to respect the waiting staff ... but most of all ... how to enjoy it. It's a privilege that not everyone has.

Oh that rule that you can’t go to bed before the Queen is ridiculous. When you are young like Diana was and pregnant you get very sleepy and the desire to sleep is overwhelming. As you age you don’t sleep as much all at one time, we take short naps throughout the day and can’t stay down for 8 or 9 hours straight because our bladders won’t allow it. Also pregnant women have to use the bathroom frequently so that disrupts sleep. No wonder we saw Princess Diana fall asleep sitting up, I would have too.

Normally you would not leave until the queen leaves but it is acceptable for members of the family to leave earlier or for others who for example have special travel arrangements. There is a risk of doing that because, if she does not want to answer, she can just ignore you, but the Queen is actually pretty down to earth and does a perfect job of balancing being a human being, and being an icon who has to carry the weight of over a thousand years of tradition on her shoulders.

Humans make up the most rigid rules for themselves and others. There are much worse ones than these. A bus driver did not eat all day, due to his spiritual beliefs. OK, but he drove his bus and passengers, through a city store window. That got mention all over, photos and everything. Standing straight up on a parade grounds might make you, alone, fall over because you passed out on the field, instrument and all. You might then appear on the nightly news, with your tuba. Watch the immediate looks, if you put the silverware in the wrong order on your dinner table. Wear black every day forever, after the loss of a loved one, or be assigned different uniform colors, according to your job status category. Life seems long but it is really short. Be kind to others as Life is strange enough. My worst one was sitting all day at school, on a hard chair with a slanting downward desk, all put in rows so you couldn't see the blackboard over your classmates' heads. There are other ways to arrange furniture, especially, for an 8 hr shift for small children....with breaks, just like at work, later. So, the point is? The Queen I have watched, my whole life, is very human, after all.

I come from Saudi Arabia and our royals at the end of the day are from the same families or background as us we're kinda the same roots so that helps grounding them and it goes the same with all the gulf countries but yet again i don't wanna paint this fake picture there is many royals who are evil at heart but that's the rare case and cause they're humans like us but most of the known royals or the ones who're high in their roles are humble and grow up learning that if it wasn't for the people love and support you won't be a "thing" so i get why there is protocols and stuff and i stand with it but I just think some cases in this video is overexaggerated and it shouldn't be like that it's building a rift or a wall between normal people and their leader at the end of the day we're all humans and just because you were born in a royal family doesn't mean you should be treated like a god but they should be treated with respect same as any human you meet for the first time... but i get it we live in a world that love sorting us into classes and ranks sadly! all love and respect for my fellow UK people.

@@janicem9225 It would be silly to lie online just to have a handful of people who don't even know me in real life or who I'm to think I'm someone who I'm not! Even in UK there is powerful and rich houses and families not as rich or powerful as the royals but they're well known with a history and our family/tribe leader fought with the founder king to unite our kingdom with other tribe leaders and in case you wanna read about my family/tribe it's called Ajman tribe it might be my English that made it seem like I'm saying i come from a house that's as powerful or rich as the royals but it's not to that level we're just rich and we have a powerful history and status that even the royals merry from us and I'm happy to explain more and it doesn't apply to our family/tribe only there is a lot of honorable families/tribes same as in UK and there is a lot of history and culture that I can't just explain it on a UA-cam comment I hope this clear any confusion.

Even though I'm in American I have such great respect for Queen Elizabeth I actually look up to her she has been through hell and back as the queen but you know what 70 years into it and she's still doing her job.. so keep going Queen Elizabeth we love you you are loved around the world and my biggest fantasy or dream however you'd like to put it would be to meet the queen and I wouldn't screw it up like most Americans do I would do it the way it is supposed to be done don't talk to her until she talks to you don't touch her don't walk in front of her and anything else I missed in this post I have always loved the queen I'm 53 years old and as long as I can remember hearing about Queen Elizabeth I have loved her I have followed the British family 90% of my life I have nothing but respect for the queen for Prince Charles for Prince William for I don't know if Kate Middleton is Princess Kate but I think she should be as an American I would love to see her sitting on the throne next to her husband with the title king and queen yes I know he would be the head of the British Empire and she would just be the queen I'm sure there's much more involved but I'm really not sure what because as I've said I'm an American I watch documentaries I've read books I've tried to learn as much as I could about the Royal Family and I don't blame them for being secretive because you know what it's none of our business what they do in their personal lives just as it's none of their business what we do in our personal lives it's called respect

Some have been saved - especially the ones worn for memorable events. HM wears her working wardrobe multiple times. I follow royal fashion and have noticed HM wearing outfits from ten or fifteen years ago popping up again. When she is finished with a dress or a coat, inside labels indicating the garment had belonged to her are removed and she hands them along to her ladies-in-waiting who then disperse them to ladies who could use them. Some of her dresses have been handed along again. Her evening gowns are worn multiple times as well but, of course, are not suitable to handing along to others. She also wears her hats many times each. I’ve read in multiple books and articles that she is frugal, like her father. She hates to waste things.
