Great suggestions!! Our teachers have been saying you gotta know yourself since day one. If your not into helping people (even when their nasty) this isn't the job for you.
FutureRN Gigi so true!!
Very good training! Thanks.
What are the steps to take if I'm interested in being a nurse educator, like you :) Im very passionate about nursing and teaching so I feel it would be a great fit for me :) I am just about to start nursing school in August but I am already trying to figure my end goal with nursing so that I am making the right choices along the way!
Also thank you so much for your videos! I have been binge watching them all day and they are very helpful!
I always thought I would go to the ER. But after actually being there, I know that I need a lot more time in med surg before I could handle it. I ended up precepting in Oncology, and I fell in love with it. I'll be starting my career in Oncology now.
That’s awesome 👏🏽
What would you suggest if we are a little bit if both? I’m ambivert so I have a difficult time deciding what field is like most... I’m not totally sold on ICU or ER.
HMMMMm did you watch this: ua-cam.com/video/sZva_KB-r7U/v-deo.html Why would anyone want to be an ICU nurse hahaha jk
But honestly if you're not totally sold, just keep an open mind toward all specialties. I have a video coming out in the morning on 7 specialties. Maybe that will help give some insight
I’ve watched both videos! I like to be organized, but I’m not really into the extreme detail like ICU nurses can be. I’ve considered Labor & Delivery because I love being able to get to know a pt, but I like excitement as well. I’ve also enjoyed the atmosphere of the OR and in L&D I can have a little of everything.
I know I want to continue my education and was considering CRNA so I can maybe do epidurals, and from what I’ve researched I will need to have a year experience in ER or ICU. I just can’t decide! I guess I should wait until I have those rotations to know for sure😄
I have a close friend who is in CRNA school right now, and she likes it. I'm trying to get her to do a video with me so she can explain it better. She's just so busy.
That would be SO helpful!! I’ll look forward to it!
Where is university provide for master degree in med surgical nursing?
I went to UGA
Gabrielle Taormina awesome!!! GO DAWGS!!!
I know I want to do emergency medicine, however I don’t understand why a nurse has to pick a specialty. Can you please explain
Yeah, each nurse can only work in one specialty. The main reason is that it takes so long to train in each individual specialty. It can take a few years in some specialties.
Nurses don't have to pick specialties in the same way that a doctor does. If a doctor decides to switch from Emergency Medicine to Pediatrics, they have to do another medical residency, which takes two to four years. Nurses aren't required to go back to school to retrain if they switch specialties, so a nurse who works in medical-surgical can change over to emergency medicine or home health or public health with a bit of extra training. However, functioning well in certain departments such as Obstetrics, Intensive Care Units, and other specialty departments requires a lot of special knowledge about those types of patients. Sometimes there are additional certifications required (these are just a few courses, though, you don't have to go back through nursing school again!). One issue is that oftentimes a hiring manager may not want to hire and train a nurse into a completely different specialty. If you've been working for ten years in the ICU you are probably a great ICU nurse. If you switch to Obstetrics, you will have a lot to learn and you will be slow at your job. It will be harder to find a job if you switch to a completely different specialty. It can be done, though. Nurses who burn out in one specialty can switch to another specialty. Some nurses also cross train so they can do both medical-surgical and pediatrics, for instance. Some hospital nurses take a second job in home health. You are not completely stuck into one specialty for your entire career.
Hey Nomad Nurse, what do you use to video yourself?
I use a G7X Mark II most of the time, but this video I actually used my Samsung Note 8. 😀

The Nomad Nurse 🤘🏽
Hi, I am a Msc Nurse from India. I am immigrating to Canada. I really don't like working in bedside. Most of my experience is in teaching. So what should I choose in Canada?
Hmmm that's a good question. I would look at doing something in administration, possibly some case management.
Can't tell if this guy has a gay accent, a southern accent, or a mix of both.
