    Hi im a 20 year old youngster and I have to say after watching you for so long i gained respect for you on how you go into detail in the nursing field you understand the tricks and hidden advantages this career has and i was wondering if i could ask you what does it mean when you feel a calling into this field. Because i felt that because it fits my personality and I had an in depth decision making on this felt the atmosphere and mastering time management before I even go to field. I just want to hear your thoughts on this it would give more to think and perhaps improve on.

    I’m the quiet student who gets good grades and is a little bit OCD. Looks like ICU might be the place for me!

    OR nurse here! We dont deal with rude patients or family members but people working in the OR especially surgeons are socially abnormal. We are a collection of people that dont like dealing with patients. Deal with different personalities, zero autonomy, you do not call the shot on anything, you are the bottom of the barrel. Almost zero liability. Bad surgical outcomes including leaving items inside the patients are ultimately on the surgeon. Awesome work hrs and ridiculous travel pay if not among the highest travel pay. We have a staff nurse making 138k a year doing a weekend package (2 weekend days) and 2 pick up weekdays. This is in Iowa lol

      I'm an introvert and quiet person. Do you think OR is good fit? Can you be an OR nurse as new grad?

    • @hehehehfun4938
      @hehehehfun4938 4 роки тому +3

      Cheryl M Yes! I am a new grad OR myself. OR takes new grads because we can mold you from the beginning. Answer these basic questions. Can you work in a team, even if the team is toxic? Do you hold grudges? Are you ok with having no autonomy, you are to do as you are told? Are you ok with being on-call every week on your days off? It’s a thankless job, all credits go to the surgeons, even the anesthesiologists get no credit, are you ok with this? Can you work with people who has a god-complex or uncontrolled ego? This is the fundamental culture of almost all OR. OR nurses are very cut throat but they are extremely loyal and we stick together like a wolf pack once you get in. Even after all of this, I still chose the OR. I refuse to be abused by patients and their family members. A bad day in the OR is nothing in comparison to other specialties for that i am grateful. Hope you join the Perioperative Nursing Specialty!

      @@hehehehfun4938 thank you for the insight! I truly appreciate it. I am interested in learning more about different specialties. OR seems like a great place to work at. Did you apply online or did you know someone who worked there? please let me know :)

    Great video! I hate time management units so much, cuz I suck at it lol, I did Cardiology clinical and it was tough.
    How does the ER work? Do you still have 5-6 pts like Med/Surg, or is it 1 at a time? Thanks!

    I’m a pcu/imcu nurse that just switched to a nursing home and I hate it. Have a job interview tomorrow for the Pacu and I’m excited. I’ve always wanted to be a part of the surgical process. If anyone has any advice on the Pacu let me know. Thanks.

    can't escape the psyche patients. Psyche floor full? Send them to medsurg haha

    Asshole! 🤷‍♂️😂😂😂😂 Leaving out all the other specialties. What about the prison nurses? Or school nurses? Think of the children....*sarcasm* (For those who don't see it)
    In all seriousness, I will say, for those that can do their internship in a same day surgery within a major hospital, go for it! You'll get a feel for a similar experience of the ER, OR, Nerve blocks, PACU/ICU and med/surg with discharge or hand off because the patient will be an admit to another floor. You'll get to experience all of this in each shift! By the end of your internship you'll have a good idea of where you really are able to match in a specialty with your personality.
    Ps....geaux tigers 😉
