Reclaimed by Nature - Abandoned 19th Century House Disappearing Beneath Ivy

  • This time we're exploring a large, abandoned late 19th century house. There was quite a bit of debris scattered around this abandonment, which I think was most likely due to vandals rummaging through what was originally packed away in boxes. We loved the ivy that has started to take over the exterior of the house, and is slowly making its way inside. This was a fun location to explore, and I believe the creepiness of it will show though in the video. If anyone has any information on this location, or any thoughts about exploring in general please share them with us in the comments below. First---I will never understand why someone would let such a beautiful historic home just rot.... And second---the creepiness reigns supreme in this video. That basement is what nightmares are made of!! I love your videography.. You captured the feeling of this house.. New subscriber here.. Keep up the good work!!

This house had some extra nice floor trim. I agree about the vandals making a mess. I've always thought that a lot of the "mess" or a place being called a "hoarder" house was more likely people who left things neater and boxed up, but for some reason didn't get back for it. I think a lot of the things strewn about was from people looking for items to steal. It is also obvious that a lot of architectural features are gone. I'll bet they dropped a claw foot tub through the hole in the upstairs bath. I don't like stealing, but I admit that when a house is this far gone I'm kind of glad that parts of the house will go on to "live" somewhere else! Liked your style and thanks for the video!

it wasn't too long ago that the house was lived in and was a very nice house. it's so how people invade a house and destroy it for no reason.
I'm sure the house would be in good condition if people hadn't vandalized it.
the world has gone crazy. so sad.

I agree with you Eva 100%... I wonder though what happened to the last family that lived there and what circumstances left them to move away... Perhaps there were no family to leave it too? Do you have any history on this home & where it may be located... without getting too personal.. Perhaps this home could have Historic Preservation Status ? Seems like it was a beautiful home at one time... :-)

I wonder what kind of treasures are still hidden and left behind in the walls of places like this. My house was built in the 60's and when we remodeled our kitchen we found a cigar box in between the studs behind the kitchen cabinets. It had $500 in it along with a bunch of silver dollars. If I hadn't slipped with the pry bar I would have never peeled back the dry wall to find it. Must had been put there when the house was built.

Just imagine all that has been lost in the walls, attics, crawl spaces, cellars and foundations of these old houses not to mention beautiful antiques falling into disarray in many abandoned homes. Things lost that can never be replaced. So sad.

Chris, those 'OLD BOOTS' and 'SHOES' that you showed, that's HISTORY, and yes, the 'FEATHER MATTRESS' as well!!!! The rest is another story!

The tunnel you look into at 15:16 is a coal chute where the coal truck would stop by and unload coal for the furnace

The brick and mortar in that old house is still amazing! How sad that someone isn't doing something to save it. Great front porch and I'll bet the staircase was once beautiful. Heartbreaking! Someone's dream home now in ruins.

It was nine feet high and six feet wide
And soft as a downy chick
It was made from the feathers of forty 'leven geese
Took a whole bolt of cloth for the tick
It could hold eight kids and four hound dogs
And a piggy we stole from the shed
We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun
      On grandma's feather bed

You know a museum might be interest in old things you find in these abandon houses. Just the owls abandon ones. Like old shoes, old knickknack so. You might call them and find out. You aren't stealing them, you would be donating them so that people can see what old things looked liked, and older people can reminisce. Check it out. Oh, and I love your videos. I am doing catch up since I found your sight and subscribed. Keep them coming, I look forward to them.

great video ..love it.. wow what grand house.. it must have been a beautiful home of some one some time...so sad to see the house is 'dead'.. wonder why no one sold it ..why leave it just like that.. the trousers hanging in the air (sort of) is spooky and same time makes you feel sad.. they seem clean and ironed.. though dusty.. must have been some rich folks house with feather matteress.. all these abandoned houses have stories that dies with the houses never to be heard or known by the others.. no closures .. how deep can we think about it.. right down to one's soul.. thank you for the great video.. im going to check your others too

I remember having an experience like this in a decaying home that was much smaller around Big Bear, CA. I don't believe in ghosts at all, BUT I WAS SCARED! The house was all trashed and broken up just like this and had sat vacant for years. I could only imagine what had transpired there. I finally went in and painfully hesitated before going into each room. The kitchen wood stove still had kindling in the fire box as if it were just going to be lit. The newspaper under the wood was also dated 1974. There was a spent fire extinguisher on the floor in the bedroom and a burnt mattress. Too bad there were no smart phones at the time so that I could have recorded it.

    • @KentuckyUrbex
      @KentuckyUrbex  8 років тому

+little house guy Thats an interesting story, and coincidence with the newspaper date. You obviously still have a vivid memory of the experience though even though it wasn't recorded, and I think that's great

+leila miyakawa Thanks Leila, we did have a look at a lot of the things left there but it comes down to a matter of how much I can fit in a video without it being an hour long : ) Most of the papers strewn about on the floor were bank statements, and of course we cant show those

Your videography is superb! The weather outside is very befitting of the gloomy atmosphere of the house. Chaos reigns supreme inside of it! That staircase must of been all of pomp and circumstance. It's still gorgeous! Was that mold on the walls at the top of the staircase? All the doors in the house appear to be solid wood and not like the hollow core crap doors of today! That's a nest amid the bunch of hangers! Amazing! This grande old lady is dying a very slow and painful death! So very sad! I am sure that some of the wood could've been reclaimed! Do you think that the downstairs could of been like a basement or a 1st floor apartment or something similar to that! I am guessing at that because of the door at the bottom of the steps! The furnace room creeped me right out! I have to say this was just spectacular! Thanks for risking life and limb and not knowing what you were really getting into. I have subbed you my friend. Your videos are crazy excellent! Canada!

The atmosphere in person was just as it is in the video, so I built upon that when it came time to edit and it happened to work out pretty well, this is my personal favorite. Yes that staircase.. its a shame someone smashed it all to crap, I'm sure it must have been a grand entryway in its time. The nest in the hangers.. my favorite scene lol.. it was great. I'm really glad you enjoyed it as much you did. New video tomorrow! Take care

+swampmammytheone Thank you very much. I heard from someone who used to visit the last occupant of the house, they said it has been abandoned 15 years at the most, but that's plently long enough for decay to take hold. You're right it wasn't maintained from what I could tell, and the rear addition was in much worse shape than the original brick front portion.
