Two members of K/DA are members of the girl kpop band (G)-idle , I hope you ladies check them out because they are amazing and my favorite girl group
The problem with the live performance was in my opinion, that Soyeon and Miyeon from (G)I-DLE naturally would't have any problems with a more advanced choreography, because the are K-Pop idols and trained all sorts of dance for years even before debut. But they had to include and adapt to the levels of Madison Beer and Jaira Burns in a short time. These two are probably not used to such hardhitting choreography while singing live at the same time. I think that's why they landed on the (easier) "stomping dance" with lots of arm movement for the live stage, because it was simpler to realize.
Greetings from the future...
Yeah, I thought of that too. It's a shame there's no bts footage of the stage work or of asking them about changing from relatively static western stage performance to the kenetic kpop style. I thought back on all the mentor videos, including Lisa's infamous class and her relentlessly reminding them to smile and make eye contact even when they're dancing. It was subtle, and I don't think Beer or Burns did a bad job, but you could see subtle differences in how fluidly Soyeon and Miyeon moved vs them. It's all muscle memory to them by now whereas B&B had to compress a lot of learning into a short time. Still a banging video though. I've seen tiny bits from B&B how much they enjoyed the expereince, and I'm curious how it affected what they do now. They certainly got exposed to kpop in a way most western artists don't get to do, that is actually perform it live with two experienced performers. Wonder if western work seems a little dull now...
As to why Riot decided to make a Kpop group with their characters and go through all this massive effort whey hadn't before, K/DA was only intended to be a one off project for the Championship Finals because that was going to be held in Seoul. They figured it would be a neat idea to do a Kpop song for that, and they figured a Kpop skin line would be awesome. It blew up, though, so Riot ended up leaning into K/DA as an actual staple virtual band and started working on a full EP for 2020, and also spun out a hip hop virtual group "True Damage" in 2019.
So it wasn't ever primarly intended to be an advertisement to get people to play League, but rather to get League players to buy a Kpop-themed line of character cosmetics.
The music video itself was also a way to keep Fortiche working and all the animators employed while the script for Arcane (their animated show that came out on Netflix in November 2021). Basically Riot wanted to make a TV show, and they ended up literally building out a very small but existing studio in France called Fortiche that had worked on Riot's first ever music video "Get Jinxed" in 2014. So, Riot ended up paying Fortiche to hire some 200+ animators specifically for Arcane, to become a full time production studio for the show.
They had basically finished the pilot episode when the script was sent back to the drawing board and the showrunner (legit just a Riot dev who'd written lore but had no experience in long form storytelling or television production) went off to find help from people in the TV industry. That left Fortiche without anything to do, and nothing to pay all their animators for, but like I'd said the esports team had an idea for a Kpop band for the Championship, and so that video was handed to Fortiche.
That show Arcane btw was one of the greatest shows of 2021, animated or not, and still has a 100% critics score and 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and is a 9/10 on IMDB with 220,679 ratings. Season 2 is slated for later this year.
Esas Idols virtuales de K/DA tiene muchos exitos . De las 4 Cantantes humanas me encanto la Voz de Madison Beer y Soyeon ✨✨
