  • ELVIS PRESLEY - My Way Reaharsal Hawaii 1973 REACTION.This was an incredible perdormance by The King.I'm not sure if it was a dress rehearsal or a preshow rehearsal, because there was a big crowd at hand.Doesn't matter really, cos this was an incredible show by Elvis.

If you would like to see Elvis and Sinatra singing together; search for Elvis "Welcome Home" something like that. Hearing the King singing "Witchcraft" is still one of my favorite Elvis songs--- ever!

The REHEARSAL SHOW WAS a legit dress rehearsal for the first concert ever broadcast around the world, and they PACKED THE HOUSE to the GILLS. Noone knew HOW LARGE a venue it would take for Elvis to fail to sell out. Never had an empty seat. I imagine the largest stadium in the World, Narendra Modi Stadium with a capacity of 132,000, would sell out in one day (a few hours if that) if Elvis had performed there. And Elvis donated ALL proceeds to the Kui Lee Cancer Fund for a doctor at the University of Hawaii doing cancer research. Kui Lee was a legendary songwriter who died of cancer at 34. In the TV concert, Elvis sang Kui's most famous tune - 'I'll Remember You', to billions (with a B) of global viewers. Thanks to Elvis everyone got in for free and he raised $75,000 from the gate. The audience was allowed in via their own contributions. Some kids saw the show for only 10 cents. Next day, Elvis took out full-page newspaper ads thanking Hawaii'.

Wonderful reaction. They did let people in to watch the rehearsal and since it was a charity concert, they were asked to donate whatever they wanted, just like the actual concert. They raised $75,000 for the cancer fund.

People (45 years after he's gone) still call Elvis King of Rock'n roll, but he did not like that, he considerd that the only King was God, but I consider him to be the King of Music, but what do you think, is he good enough to be called a Music King?
Here are some of his Gospel songs:
Amazing Graze, Take me home precious lord, How great though art, You'll never walk alone, You gave me a mountin, Crying in the chapel, Why me Lord (written by Kris Kristofferson), Unchained melody, I'm not sure if it's a gospel song but Walk a mile in my shoes and many more...
    .
If you prefer ballad songs then look at these:
My Way, Suspicius minds, In the Ghetto (written by Mac Davies), Memories (written by Mac Davies), If I can dream that is a tribute (parts of it is taken directly from the I can dream speach by MLK) to Martin Luther King JR and senator Robert Kennedy, What now my love, Walk a mile in my shoes (listen to the words in the beginning), Welcome to my world, Make The World Go Away, Bridge Over Troubled Water, An American Thrillergy, Hurt, Sweet Caroline, Just Pretend, What now my love, Are you lonesome tonight (laughing versin, or not), Oh Danny Boy (for you Irish people), a song that many might not know that he sung it is this one Yellow rose of Texas, well remember that he sang over 700 songs...
There are some videos of when Elvis joking and messing up, he loved to joke around and pretend that he did not have control, but he had total control, he acctually conducted his musicans and back up choirs all the time !!
He is the only person to have 2 records gone to sell Gold and 2 to to sell Platinum since he died.
Elvis is also in almost every genre of Music Hall of Fame (5 that I'm sure of), no one else is in more then perhaps 2.
Not bad for someone who never took a single singing lesson, yes he sang in church so perhaps he learned a little there, right?
    .
Something else that people tend to overlook:
He always conducts his musicans and backup singers, he never gets credit for being able to do that...
Then imagen you are a singer, you have great musicans, you have great backup singers, no Guest Artists, no Autotune, no Lipsinging and no Fireworks, now all is about your skill, could you handle that pressure?
That is what Elvis did in over 1000 concerts, despite having problems with his health, like his Glaucoma, the headlights must have hurt his eyes like crazy...
He sang over 700 songs, I wonder how he could remember them all, he never vrote a song himself, so he had to remember other peoples songs, well that in it self is amazing in it self...
By the way he had Glucomea and that must have been difficult being in the headlights all the time, that could be why he sometimes closes his eyes, but also sometimes squinting !!
Elvis suits was made of 100% Polyester, or 100 cotton (I'm not sure witch one), it was originally a karate suit, it was very light, but it was hot, so it made him sweat a lot, he got some bad press about that, but if you give it all then you will sweat, it should be positive, right?
About the deep basevoice JD Sumner (a member of The Stamps Quartet) is the Basso Profundo, I think that it's called that, it is the deepest base singer there is...
About him helping others, look at this: ua-cam.com/video/CrJ1c9tm-C0/v-deo.html
Elvis made a show where all the money went to build the Memorial after Pearl Harbour, He talked to the nations about taking the Poliovaccin, Elvis took the first injection himself and he helped to start St Jude hospital against cancer, he also gave away juwelery, gave away cars, gave away houses to total strangers...
He also have a own organisation that helps people get out of Homelessness...
A thing that perhaps you did not know: Elvis NEVER had a show OUTSIDE OF USA, NOT EVEN 1 !!!
Video of Mohammad Ali speech after Elvis died:
    ua-cam.com/video/PO8Kq_3KTyI/v-deo.html
I have to say that I loved being at Graceland and seeing his home, first we were at the house in Tupelo where he lived in his early years, he was born there!!!
You don't have a guide taking you on a tour, you can go all over yourself, but stay outside of the ropes and do not attempt to go upstairs, the outside is huge, so is the house, but you don't realise that from the front of the house...
I don't regret for a second that I was there, or that I stood at his grave site and said out loud that this is for the humanitarian Elvis/person/man and then I gave him a military salute, the others there just looked at me and asked if I didn't like his music.
So I told them that he was clearly one of the best singers and artists ever, but I loved his big heart more, he helped so many people without getting credit for it, he didn't want the credit of helping others, he did it out of love and respect and to me that is what true charity is all about…
This PLACE (GRACELAND) should be a protected part of music history and also American history forever, I think that people will keep coming for years and years and years to come !!
Elvis did lots of things for America to, he helped to avoid getting Polio (he took the vaccin in a tv show that made the intrest for taking the vaccin go from 5 % to 80 % in a few days), he helped to defeat Cancer with helping to build St Judes, he helped to build the Memorial over Pearl Harbour and many other things !!!

In the actual performance, rather than just going up to the 5th for that last held note, he actually goes up to the 6th and then resolves it back down to the 5th. It's just mind-blowing and his tone is so good, his mouth is wide open, his jaw is dropped and relaxed and he is holding the mic very far from his mouth, which means he is really projecting with power on that high note. So impressive.

Having waited for hours outside MANY concert venues, I can tell you the big acts have full dress rehearsals of their shows, to make sure all goes according to plan. Waiting outside, one gets a muted version; but of course, ain't NOTHIN' like the real thing. Elvis WAS the real thing! Thanks for reacting to this one, sir!

It was a rehearsal but was filmed in case there was issues with the live feed. Check out some of the back stage singing that Elvis did in Elvis on Tour. His rehearsal or jam sessions are awesome. I don't think he turned it down just because it was not a studio recording. It was music from his soul each time. Elvis really wanted to do this song and talked to Paul Anka about it. Anka said he didn't feel it was right for Elvis because of his age. It was really a song fitting someone at the end of their life. Anka acknowledged his error with Elvis's passing and said something to the effect of "little did we know.".

Thx for your reaction & enjoying & understanding Elvis & "his people". The point of the rehearsal was to sort out glitches that might happen, such as sound & lighting problems; for Vegas, Elvis was requested to open the newly built International hotel, but the one smart thing Parker did was say no & they got barbara streisand to open; there were technical problems during her show, something that would have fallen on Elvis had he been the opener.

I actually enjoyed the rehearsal concert over the live show because Elvis seemed a little reserved or held back a little, if you own the two disc set of the concert you can see a remarkable difference between the two. Not saying this negatively, I'm the biggest Elvis fan out here but he was far more relaxed than the live show the very next night.

I have to say the one very good/smart thing Parker did was to not allow Elvis to be the opener for the newly built Vegas International, which the owners wanted him to do; somehow they got Barbara Streisand to be the opener, as Parker knew there could be some technical problems w-sound & lighting, & sure enough, Streisand did have some technical issues; so by the time Elvis signed on, all issues were cleared up.

It was a full concert taped for the satellite special that was going to be broadcast the next night, used as a backup in case there were any issues with the satellite transmission the next day - which their weren’t (hence the term rehearsal). Many Elvis fans would disagree with me because, as a general rule, fans think Elvis was better during this “dress rehearsal” show (actually a filmed back up in case the live via satellite show had technical issues) than in the actual broadcasted show. I, on the other hand, think Elvis was more in command during the televised show, particularly on this song. This version is really great but when you see/hear My Way side by side on rehearsal & televised shows, the latter is edgier, just a touch more dramatic and Elvis’ vocals just a little sharper. Having said all that I do understand you guys keep coming up against copyright issues.

Binder also told Elvis he had to lose 25 lbs., which Elvis did. Can you imagine how different that concert would have been had there not been a ramp!! The entire interview is on youtube.

The version he did at the actual «Aloha» broadcast on the 14th is much better, IMHO. But as a concert, the rehearsal showed a much «looser»Elvis, much less nervous(?) as it was not the main broadcast. The attendance at the HIC Arena was around 6000-6500 at both shows, sold-out both evenings. It looks like it was much more, but Marty Pasetta, the producer of the show, put in mirrors to get that extra feeling. The receipts at both shows went ro the Kui Lee cancer fund. Kui Lee wrote «I’ll Remember You», a song Elvis featured at both shows.

Hawaii, the farthest Elvis travelled. He never performed in another country. His manager The Colonel couldn’t leave the country. You see he was an illegal immigrant. Thats why he had Elvis stay in one place mostly (Vegas) and people came to him and he also had him do movies instead of going overseas and such.

E did go to Canada; but there is info (not made very public) the reason for not being able to get into England were the drugs.

He's no Sinatra, but he's pretty great in his own way. I like his interpretations, but let's not kid ourselves. Frank Sinatra was a better singer.

No, Frank Sinatra was not a better singer. Elvis voice had a range of 3 octaves. Elvis was the better Singer.

@@Shadow_-yk4hx besides range & octaves, let's talk about the power & emotion from his gut that he threw out to us - NO ONE ever sang like that - especially sinatra & singers from that time
