It's their own song, the lyrics by Myles were inspired by a very close friend of his who passed away tragically. It's also known to have one of the best guitar solos every written, played by both Myles and Mark together. It's an astonishingly great song.
Words darker than their wings from same show is a must! I was lucky enough be there on the 1st night, and it is simply the best gig I have ever attended.
I am so jealous. I saw them a few years ago in a small venue in St. Louis here in the States where I was able to be about 10 ft from the stage, but nothing they did sounded as epic as this or Words Darker than their Wings. Crazy how they are an American band but WAY bigger in the UK than the US.
This song always reminds me of my daughter who passed 2 days after she was born. "Ascend, may you find no resistance Know that you made such a difference And all you leave behind will live to the end The cycle of suffering goes on But the memories of you stay strong Someday I too will fly and find you again"

He's still one of the best vocals of the genre though, and you as a fan should appreciate his efforts instead of complaining.

Where did he claim that? Myles has stated it’s lyrically inspired by his friend Mark Morse, who sold him his first guitar, passing away while they were recording.
It's such a shame you didn't watch the 'Live in Amsterdam' version, Myles changed his vocal technique between it and this performance, and Amsterdam was significantly better.

It's a shame that Myles chose to sing like that. It ruins the performance in my opinion. I mean, compared to Amsterdam, this performance is a joke at best. It's similar to Wembley where Myles was sick and that's saying a lot about this RAH performance. I understand the need to preserve his voice or whatever, but if I were there having paid what undoubtedly was a pretty penny to see them, I'd be very disappointed with this performance of Blackbird. It's weird because he sang other songs normally that night but chose to go nasal for their most known song. Alter Bridge were never a great live band, but nowadays they're much worse than in their younger days because of Myles' singing. So many performances ruined. Although they're my favorite band, I don't regret not seeing them live one bit. In my opinion, they should let Mark sing and Myles should play lead guitar. It would be a nice change of pace that both of them would probably enjoy and also a real treat for the fans.

No way she thinks this is a cover lmfao
"Alter Bridge was never a great live band" - said no one ever. To each their own but you're definitely on your own there...
@@Corrow20 I mean, look at this Blackbird performance and Wembley vs Amsterdam. Not even fucking close. They’re at least very inconsistent live and that makes them less than great. Can you argue with this?
@@dudebroguymateI argue it. He sounds great! The band sounds fantastic too! Myles sings better now than in the beginning of AB. Check out a UA-cam video chronicling’find the real’ live over the years. His voice has only gotten better and more consistent live. He has lost that youthful exuberance, but he’s much older and never felt completely comfortable putting on that act in the first place, much less as a man in his 50’s. Sounds great as ever though. Not tons of lead rock singers can say that - even by the time they pass 35 yrs old.
@@RB-oc7ti brother, you need to clean your ears. Compared to Amsterdam, he sounds way way worse.
@@dudebroguymateyour opinion. Not mine.
