This is how you know he was unhappy with the writing: he walked away from 1 million dollars per episode. Guy really cares about the source material. And I don't blame him

Honestly, I admire that dedication and authenticity. I can't imagine my favorite book series being adapted so horribly either.
He left because he's extremely busy .... not everything has to do with celebrities going against the controversial norms of society .
Source?
@@proudbeanerii3810 in this case you are wrong
We live in an age where writers take the source of their works, spit on it and are mad when fans don't want to see it.
In an interview with one screenwriter (not for this show), she said "it was important to leave my mark" and "book accurate versions have been made, you can watch those."
Oh, those terrible, ACCURATE versions. /s
Writers with that attitude seem to depend on the audience who didn't read the books.
@@floraposteschild4184 OK, I got a reply for her, if she wants to leave a mark, she can make her own show with her own story, not take another man's work, deform it an wonder why no one likes it. It's a coward's way of work.
@@SezarOroo Absolutely. That's why they love books that are no longer copyright protected -- they can hitch a ride on a famous name, without being sued.
I bet in that room there are a lot of "she"s, that are just diversity hires and have no business in writing of stuff like this. Self-inserted characters, "the stories of their lives that they can't wait to tell"...

Hollywood needs to understand what Japanese media always understood: When a written story stands out and develops a loyal fan base, it’s because the story is already great. Don’t change anything, just put it into tv/movie form. That’s all.
It's obvious to us, but impossible to realize for people who think they're gifted, like these show writers.
David Benioff and D. B. Weiss will go to their graves believing they did an outstanding job with GoT. And here, it's exactly the same.
jp media does the same as Hollywood wdym? They butcher anime and la adaptations all the time
Oh boy you’ve never seen promised neverland season 2, Tokyo ghoul, or pretty much all the anime’s based on video games have you? Japan fucks up all the time they’re not infallible lol
What? Have you ever watched anime? They have absolutely no faith to the source material, constantly. Japan is just as shitty in this regard.
You know I would love to agree with you but Japanese media messes up stuff as much as Hollywood does.
How can you mess this up? You have someone, THE VERY LEAD ACTOR, NO LESS, who genuinely knows and cares about what the series you're basing it off of. And yet Netflix still finds a way to screw it up. They couldn't even keep Henry for half of the seasons that they initially promised.
Disney did the same with Bobba Fett
The lead actor was a very big fan of Bobba, and kept saying the way his character talked and behaved was very much NOT Bobba Fett but they didn't listen
Big studios seem to think they can write a cliche story with an ooc popular character and people would still enjoy it.

It happens when the show's writers think they are better than the original writer. Just look at some of the terrible YA adaptations.
On the positive side i found new respect for him. He loves the books so much that he gave up his passion project because people making it were disrespecting it. Hope one day there will be writers that will respect it and he will reprise the role once again
Me too ✋️
He's the only reason I'm willing to give the new superman movie a chance. I hated what they did with batman v Superman
He also loves the games... let's not gloss over that fact lol
openly mocking the books that their series are based on, so fucking unprofessional and disrespectful
Well what is the point in working on your passion project if other people change your project so drastically it hardly resembles what you dreamed about?
Yeah, I'm 100% sure there's more to the story. Henry fought like hell for this role, and seemed to care more about it than any other. He also said he'd make time for both Superman and Witcher, and that he was committed to 7 seasons. There's no way he's leaving because of Superman, especially since those movies would only require a few months of shooting every 2-3 years. He's leaving because he's unhappy with the direction of the show. It was already obvious during the Season 2 press tour that he had some issues with the show.
Yeah, they're changing a lot and obviously this wasn't good, Henry knew It, plus the hatred towards the games and books coming from the people of the show, i wouldn't like to work there either
This is what netflix gets for hiring terrible writers and producers bringing 🌈 politics into the show. Yeah lets have a black african chick be yennefer's cousin and asian elves in a slavic folklore tale based in Northern Europe. They refuse to stick to source material like the games do wonderfully cause they're afraid of pissing off the blue haired alphabet army. Good riddance

100% agree with all of this! For me this is the final nail in the cofin with the show!
@@kaades_ He didn't wrote anything about it, but it's most likely
I'm not even the sort of person who is against adaptations changing things on principle, but the stuff that came out of the Netflix Witcher's writer's room never failed to be completely baffling. Just bad choice after bad choice, executed with full confidence. I'm gutted that Henry is leaving, but I'm impressed by his integrity. That's a real fan right there.
i bealive the worst one was trying to make roach death a COMEDY SCENE, like wtffff, poor Henry had to make and script overnight to re do the scene with some respect
This is exactly what I said to myself during the first season, that if it's a little different, it probably won't matter so much. Although somewhere it was very shortened (plot development) and somewhere unnecessarily stretched (origin). However, the second season picked up such a terrible "now we're going to screw it up" pace that it was literally a pain - especially the ending. It's better if this kind of crap never happened.
@@josepalacios8530 How does anyone make a joke out of poor animal's death? Especially an animal as important as Roach is? Only a sociopath would think that sort of thing is funny.
THANK YOU. As a fan of the books who read them 4-5 times in the original Polish, I was infuriated and severely disappointed with Netflix's adaptation. The disdain and lack of understanding of the source material from the writers was palpable. They weren't even writing fanfiction, they were writing their own, much more simpleminded fantasy show that fed on the original story from the inside and slowly emerged from its dead carcass.
Ciri and Geralt's beautiful relationship when she was a child - gone. Geralt and Jaskier's friendship as a meeting of equal minds with different perspectives - nah, they're Shrek and Donkey. Cahir and Fringilla's ambiguous morality and shifting loyalties - sorry, they're moustache-twirling religious fanatics now. There's so much wrong with how they treated the worldbuilding, the themes, the characters - it's mind-boggling. It's not that I wanted a perfect copycat adaptation (in fact, I think that wouldn't work at all either!), it's that they actively sabotaged the aspects of the stories that made the original so good.
The comparison I always give to people who haven't read the books is imagine if Game of Thrones was like Season 8 from the start. That's how bad it is. Perhaps it's a watchable, fun show from a non-reader's perspective, but once you appreciate the books, it's undeniable how much of a missed opportunity this was.
They were writting a very bad shitpost fanfiction. I recognise fanfictions can be good but as a genre they don't require anything. You can even find fanfictions with just a title and zero words to it
@@karolinakuc4783 Fan fiction is made by fans for fans.

I watched the show totally blind, never read the books or played the games, and was honestly shocked because I really didn't get the hype. The show feels disjointed, clichée laden and simplisitc. It was only later that I read about the books partially makeing fun of other Fantasy novels, at times ambiguous and had fully fleshed out characters. What I'm trying to say is: It's not even a great show for people unfamiliar with the source material. Doesn't help that the current reference point right now is still GOT which (at least when it comes to the first four seasons) will be impossible to measure up to for almost any other franchise.
Its not a fun show, even for people who haven't read the books.i haven't and i only played the third game,so i was excited for the show...no,i was going through my phone a bit after the middle of episode two.
I am sad but glad at the same time. We need more actors like Henry to stand up so the show writers realise that if they are adapting bestsellers, they are bestsellers for a reason and should not be meddled with. If I say "I love apple" I want apple not an orange because someone said "It is based on apple because it is round".
EXACTLY!👏👏👏👏👏
I don't mind adaptations, GOT was vastly improved because of it.
The show is way better than the books and I usually think it's the opposite way.
This is just a complete reinvention set in the Witcher world

I'm upset about the recasting, however I'm super proud of Henry for leaving the show because of his morals and values. I'm also super excited for the books and I'm currently reading them. I got sooo upset with Season 2 I was ranting about it for MONTHS after I watched it. It still upsets me how much they're changing the characters and storyline. I'm interested to see what they'll do with it, but I'm upset because I don't know what the show will become. I can always reread the books and play the games though. :)
Just don't watch it like I did. Instead, enjoy RRR. It will help you to forget this pain.
I honestly don't mind adaptations that change the story. However, it needs to be interesting and the absolute must is that the characters should remain as the characters. Changing circumstances. Sure that's fine. Adding plot lines is ok so long as the characters act like they should. I mean if they act like the characters you know, then it doesn't seem like a change, but rather just a continuation. But when you take characters and have them act in ways that are completely against everything they are/represent, then you have failed. I mean, what if I remade old yeller, but instead of a dog, I put a cat in its place? But not only that...I make the cat behave like a cat and rewrite the story to accommodate that. At that point I am not redoing old yeller. I am making something completely new which is not going to fly with fans of that old classic. I don't get what is so hard to comprehend about that.
It isn't the best choice to trust Hollywood when it comes to adapt books by foreigners. Dmitri Gluchovski author of Metro 2033 also resigned. He thought they are going make it Futu.Re and change the setting for USA because Hollywood doesn't like protagonists who think for themselves. Games were good adaptations because they loved source material. Sapkowski wasn't glad about them he didn't want to admit why (probably because menal illnesses are still taboo topic in Poland) but I think it is because when you change a
character from neurodivergent to neurotypical
Henry Cavill and Ryan Reynolds are the only two actors in the fantasy genre that seems to genuinely care about the work they do unlike others who care about the paycheck.

Yeah, if alot of witcher fans didn't leave after season 2 they're probably going to drop out knowing henry isn't filling the role anymore since he was a clear high point in the series. Also replacing the main character in a show never really pans out well, i'm curious how they intend to do it, since it could end up being another nail in the coffin if its done poorly. Since some explanation needs to be given for the change in the story.
Hello folks,
It's good to know that there are so many good fans out there whose hearts also bleed when they see this travesty unfold before our eyes. What has been done to the plot is nothing short of a crime. To see a masterpiece slaughtered by a bunch of greedy vultures really makes me angry. These people truly have no shame, no class, and no taste at all.
This year I also lamented the demise of the Wheel of Time by Amazon, but Witcher 2 was too much.
Everyone can appreciate Henry for this. If you fight for things you love but get nothing back, its time to move on. Respect.
I for one would have liked to see him stay and fight, and wear out those useless writers in the process. Or demanded new ones. From Geralt to Clark Kent/S-man, the most boring, flat character in the whole fictional metaverse? I'll check it out, because he is a good actor, but it's going to be predictable, whatever they do.

He was legally required to stick out the first three seasons. That was his initial contract.
He was legally required to stay, I don't think the shoot were done in chronological order, probably the pieces from s1 and s2 were done in same shooting sessions and edited into 2 different seasons. So when he saw the scripts he probably already laying the groundworks to leave.

*spoilers for anybody who hasn't seen Witcher season 2 and actually wants to watch it*
Apparently in the scene where Roach is killed the writers wanted Geralt to crack a joke about it. Cavill was very adamantly against this, and wouldn't budge on it until it was rewritten to his satisfaction (under his supervision). One of the most genuine, in-character and heartfelt moments in the season (whole series, actually) and it was in spite of the writers, not because of them. The writers should be ashamed of themselves, but no doubt they aren't. It seems Netflix (and Hollywood in general) is just filled with young narcissists who genuinely believe their writing to be incredible and blame the viewers for not 'getting it', or being 'bigots', or whatever convenient strawman they can concoct to shift blame. It's really frustrating, and I just find myself watching fewer and fewer shows and movies these days.
I think both can be true. To say it’s not for money as well is naive

I just started playing the Witcher games and am reading the books parallelly too. Even I could notice that Vesemir, who Geralt respects a lot, was made to look like a fool in S2.
Hope you enjoy the games and the books, i guess one thing this show did do is bring attention to the witcher universe again. I started playing the games and reading the books almost a year ago, currently have 350 hours in the witcher 3 and am reading lady of the lake. I think Cavill was the perfect casting for Geralt, and I agree with his choice. After finishing the short stories and the first novel it isn't hard to see that the show runners aren't interested in adaptation. So much of what set up Geralt and Ciri's relationship in the books was abandoned, and so was the framing for the conflict between elves and humans.
Then I started to see other problems, like simplifying Calanthe's character and forgetting why Nivellen was worth writing a story about. The best thing about the show is that it makes me want to read the books.

Putting that pettiness aside maybe just maybe Cavil's departure will humble some people and we will get a better product as a result. I won't hold my breathe and losing possibly the lead of a lifetime (in terms of character to personality and talent fit) won't be easy to overcome and if thing continue as they are most likely will be a defining death blow to the series. I completely respect his choice to leave, especially if it was due to the writing. It's a shame thought because he was perfectly cast in this role.
He wasn't even cast technically, that insinuates that *they* were the ones who got him for the role. He basically helped make the show happen in the first place, and went to great lengths to ensure he got the role (I'm pretty sure he must have taken a LOT less money for the role than he normally would, considering he's a high profile actor). So he wasn't cast as Geralt, he chose to be Geralt. And turns out his passion was wasted on the braindead troglodytes in the Netflix writers' room. A real shame. I'd have loved to see him as Geralt in the hands of people who actually loved the source material as much as he does.
How does one write a show for material that they don’t respect? We’ve seen this time and time again and showrunners still don’t get it. Much respect to cavil for being real.
I'm so glad you did this video I had no idea he was leaving I feel like it definitely won't be the same but he should not have to deal with them writers not getting it accurate when he's so passionate about it
I remember seeing an interview where the questioner asked Henry something along the lines of, "It is rumored you can be a bit of a know it all on set and difficult to work with." After his answer, I was like, "I bet he is the only person on set who loves the books/games." Most of the promotional stuff involves Anya as well as Henry and while she is a great actress in my opinion you can tell she had no idea what it was or any love for it beforehand. It is shameful waste of potential, hollywood needs to learn the importance of good writers.
Hollywood will never learn. Nor will Netflix. The only solution is a completely separate and parallel filming industry must be built from the ground up to compete against the woke ones.
More like, the only one who actually read the books. I bet screenwriters are reading books diagonally ^^
Kinda like how people hated Tom Cruise casted as Jack Reacher, but loved the series with Alan Richson. Time Cruise played the role well, but it was disconcerting when fans of the books imagined a hulking beast instead of the comparatively dwarfish Cruise.
"Just build your own Hollywood" lol. You know the )ews stole it from its original white creators? Ever heard of Walt Disney?
Sadly wokeflix seems intent on running everything into the ground.
For some reason they change everything about a series background and then wonder why the project failed. I def noticed s2 of Witcher was more woke. Had low expectations for s3. After resident evil flop I’m sure the bio shock series will be just as awful

I stop watching witcher after a few S1 episodes because the show's director does not respect the racial factor & geological location in which the story takes place. Bad? he decided to abandon the show for a bigger paycheck with Warner Bro playing superman. Don't kid yourself. He wants to be like the actors in the Marvel movies. If they had never asked him to play superman again, he would have never left. That being said, he made the show without Henry. There is no witcher. Henry Cavill’s Geralt is also an example of how passion and respect for the character you are supposed to play can create something beautiful and engaging. Cavill looks nothing like the book Geralt, yet he embodied the character perfectly and surprised most of the fans.
He looks similar to the Game Geralt. Still too much of a pretty boy. But severely lacks the character, behavioral emotions, and personality that Geralt has.
I am personally a fan of the video games and how characters interact there, but I know the show took more from the written short stories.
@@Thor.Jorgensen Nah, the show didnt take from anywhere. They pulled almost everything out of their asses.
Maybe geralt is to "pretty" in the show. But that doesnt really matter i think. You will never find someone who looks just like everyone imagined geralt based on the books. And Henry really did a good job at acting his character.
Everything thats lacking or seems off comes basically from the writing room.
@@godmode8687 Nope. The show is 100% the short stories, almost copied completely with a bunch of extra sex and naked scenes added and large chunks of dialogue removed to make it keep to the short episode format.
However, the directors read Geralt as being emotionless, meaning they essentially made him like the Twilight female protagonist. However, Geralt is, in actuality, far from emotionless. He is driven by emotion, unlike other witchers, which is what makes him unique as a witcher. He isn't cold and calculated. He is intelligent but still acts on what he thinks is right or wrong.

@@godmode8687 Yes, I read them. There are already numerous videos on UA-cam reviewing with a direct side-by-side comparison of Andrzej Sapkowski's written work to the show.
Did you watch the show? Because if you've read the short stories, you should know.
I'll give an example:
A Question of Price (Kwestia ceny)
Geralt is at the castle of Cintra, at the invitation of Queen Calanthe, attending the betrothal celebration for Crown Princess Pavetta. Exactly this is in season 1 of The Witcher Netflix series. However, they skipped huge chunks of dialogue. And the bits of dialogue left behind are almost word for word, exactly the same. They cut the chunks out to save time at the expense of storytelling, so they could get to the eye-popping action bits.
There should really be firing clause or a law enacted to punish bad writing.
This was very enlightening and a great explanation!
I'm always surprised how well Henry can do Geralts voice. It's similar to the one in the game and it's really cool
@Darth Desec you're gonna insult me over an actors voice? Nice to see you're picking the right battles to fight here man
Yeah, he said in an interview he really liked the original voice actors approach, and wanted to work with a similar thing. It's not exactly the same cause he said he didn't want to seem like he was just copying it, but instead bringing across the major components of Geralt's Voice™.
I feel like he’s just nerdy enough to practice his Geralt Voice in the mirror
Dude he had a completely different accent 😅

Given that Sapkowski is still alive, you have to think that Henry was mortified by how drastically and stupidly the writers diverged from the source material. I'm not surprised that Henry is walking away from this travesty. Total respect for him.
I'm less sure of that given that Cavill loves the books and also the CDPR games. Sapkowski despises the games even though he's never touched them, mostly because he feels slighted that he made no money off them because he didn't put faith in the first title or CDPR. There were a number of things that really turned me off of the show, even from the beginning. I think for me one of the biggest turnoffs of the first season was how rushed the pacing was. The show just never gave the audience a moment to breathe, which is really unfortunate because it's dealing with a lot of themes that really need some moments of reflection to properly process. Also, I was not a big fan of Ciri's actor and the writing of that character. I haven't read the books, but the way the games presented the character had me actively rooting for her the entire time she was on screen, but her portrayal in the show was just.............. Not enjoyable. I also felt the magic in the show was absolutely butchered, with magic being presented as more of a fun sideshow than an actual serious force to be reckoned with. Walking through the eternally burning valley in the witcher 2 leaves such a huge impression on you, and then when you compare that to the show presenting a bunch of people tossing fireworks as something impressive... Really left a lot to be desired.

But I read the books in Polish, am Polish, so understand all the intricasies of the culture Geralt's character comes from, and I can tell you - his character is intranferable to English sensibilities.
I absolutely adore Henry for being everything an actor portraying an already existing character should be, but he was from the get go like a less nuanced, more simplified and wooden version of the true Geralt.
Despite all the good things in Henry, his portrayal was insufficient to be called a complete success, more so even something like Hugh's Wolverine, and I honestly think that might have been because of his lack of sufficient acting abilities.
Because he understood the character well, right? So all it comes down to in his demeanor is acting, and I can't blame a man for not being enough, even when trying his best.

Season 2 was outright trouble spelling when I was watching it, every episode felt like it wasn't even from the original books. But what really put the final nail in the coffin for me was the fact they killed off Eskel, for literally NO reason at all. Eskel's and Geralt's relation in the games is not something you can just take out and replace with something else, it ruins Geralt's character and the way the story progresses. From that point on I knew that this was not going to be anything near the books nor the games in upcoming seasons.
Cavill was a perfect, absolutely PERFECT cast for this role. He had dedication, love for the source material, the looks, the physique and the voice and they wasted it all due to shitty writing that has recently been plague'ing every adaptation from a book.

I really liked season 1 of The Witcher. However, I think the main issue with it is how they do the whole timeline in Season 1 so that it starts and ends at the same place. You watch this whole journey of the Witcher and Siri working towards each other and it comes together in such a great way by the last episode. I think a lot of people thought the writing was clever in season 1 simply because of how they presented the episodes at different timelines. But the problem with that is you can't really do that again for Season 2. So I felt like their one trick was already played and now they had to actually make some of these characters interesting.
I personally found Siri to be one of the worst characters in season 2. Her training scenes were pretty bad and I honestly hate how in every stupid show these days they have these 80lb skinny blonde girls that are supposed to be able to physically compete with their male counterparts who are 250 lbs of muscle. Major respect to Henry for giving it his all. At some point he decided it was the right time to move on, and I support that decision wholeheartedly. At least this means he doesn't need to carry the entire show on his shoulders anymore, and he can go back to doing things he feels like part of a team on as opposed to the one keeping things together.
The way Netflix handled this whole situation was the final nail in the coffin for me cancelling my subscription and switching over to HBO.
One thing that baffels me that I still remember about season 2, is the conclusion to the whole Leshen episode...
Geralt in the books is smart, erudite, and can talk as well as he can swing a sword.
Show Geralt was reduced to grunts and the occasional “f*ck”.
It was absolutely clear right from the first episode that the show runners didn’t respect the character and the original series.
Cavill did his best to overcome this, but I don’t doubt this is a big part of why he left.
I watched 10 mins of the first episode and knew it was a dud by then, I'm a screenwriter myself and opening a whole show with just a generic scene of him fighting a monster already let me know how the writing is gonna be awful, the scene is supposed to hook the audience, then the 10 minute walk and talk with boring dialogue sealed the deal.. writers are the most important aspect and these days they're hired off ideology, nepotism or diversity quotas, ppl gotta stop watching all this garbage or they'll continue
To be fair, I can see why they had Geralt be rather monotone and not particularly talkative for a fair portion of the first season. Geralt in the books and shows is highly knowledgeable, but he tends to not be garrulous.
I think it's fair to say that with most people he'd be fairly short and clipped, and having him deliver a ton of exposition would have also felt really awkward.
But yeah, I do agree they didn't do him justice. He definitely should have had a bit within the first few episodes where he was shown to as more of an intellectual, sensitive person who actively hid his emotions.
There were a lot of weird little changes in the show, like Yennefer's weird magical hysterectomy in exchange for beauty, rather than her just being naturally infertile because most magicians in Sapowski's universe just are that way.
I feel we're slowly approaching a turning point in which enough ppl are getting fed up with these bastardization of popular IPs to a point studios and production companies can't ignore faliure and consequences of their actions but even so its sad so many wonderful series had/have to be sacrificed before the madness stops.
What I don't understand is: If they wanted to do something own even if it is closely inspired by another work, don't pretend to be what you are not.
Might be a bit hypocritical since I like V for Vendetta even if It actually diverts form the source massively.
I doubt it. Whenever you publically criticize these adaptations the majority of the responses you get are "Hurr durr it's a work of fiction, why do you care so much" etc etc. The majority of viewers could give a fuck less.
@Esra K Witcher isn't a bad show.
I do understand that fans are annoyed that it's completely different from the books, but for people who haven't read the books the TV show is a good show.
I fear we are not even halfway there. 95% is garbage, 4% is subpar but noticeably better than the rest. 1% is fantastic. I find it fascinating that the higher ups choose to make less money. Everyone is making shit stories nowadays. This is like broadcast tv all over again. Shit, shit, shit, commercial, shit, news(shit), weather, shit, shit, Thundercats (top gun 2).
yeah I just can't put my nose on it, why would netflix sabotage a European story ? hmmm
Wow. I didn’t see it this way. And was just really upset with cavil for this and saw it as him choosing super man over the witcher. Thank you for opening my eyes
I’m not gonna lie, after the first season I really wanted to read the books. I got audible and downloaded almost every single one, after about the fifth or six books so I put down the series completely. Don’t get me wrong, the writing is top notch! The only thing is is that there was too much rape from my personal taste. I really liked the fact that this series cut out quite a bit of that, but like you said there were some things that they thought they could do better that they just couldn’t. I’m very sad that Henry is leaving the role just like everyone
I'm curious, if you found the writing to be top notch, why did you decide to stop reading the series just because it was set in harsh times with wars and depicted rape? It doesn't really make sense to me. Additionally, there is also a lot of killing in the series that is sometimes described in detail. Did that not bother you as well?
The question to ask here; why do the writers diverge so strongly from the books when the books have been praised so highly? Is it a boring task to make a series to the letter? I am really curious to their reasoning in this. If you add visual and sound production quality to the books, you literally make a great series.
There were news a couple weeks ago that many of the writers hate the books and the games and would mock them. They thought they could write a better story
get woke go broke that's all
It's mostly about them trying to write a more woke and politically correct story. They were probably hoping they would get praised for this
@@t4kumi704 none of the problems of the show come from "wokeness"
That has always been a contention for this show. Lauren Hissrich in the run up to season 1 said in interview ‘we have enough story in the source material, we won’t have to invent anything’. Fast forward to season 2 she said, essentially, ‘not much happens in Blood of Elves, so we rewrote everything.’
Henry was carrying the show, unironically basically handled the writing himself
Henry backed by a team of writers who care as much as he does could've made a phenomenal show. It's incredibly disappointing.
When I saw who they cast as Triss I knew the show was doomed.
In Poland, we knew from the first season which way it was going and that it was not the right direction...😢
It didn't surprise me either. If like myself, Henry is a mega fan of the source material, I completely understand him removing himself from this show. I forgave some of Season 1's shortcomings because it would be understandably hard to adapt The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny given their non-linearity. But they did a decent job anyway. Season 2 though, my god, when I watched that after the first episode, it literally had me face palming and saying out loud, "WHAT THE FUCK". And with the news of the writers actively disliking the source material... well, I completely understand Henry's decision to leave. He doesn't want to be a part of this butchering of what should be an amazingly mature, outspoken, and nuanced story.
What did you feel was a dislike of the source material? Do you mean the book or the game?
@@rajasmasala books are the source material as even the games were born of the books
@@rajasmasala Games take part after the books. So the games are kind of fan fiction but the author of the game story did an excellent job on that. But the Netflix adaptation had to follow the source material because their story timeline was aligned with the timeline of the books but they wanna change it a lot so in my opinion, they will say "this story was in a parallel universe" bullshit to support their shitty writing.
OMG!! YES!!!!!!!! I totally agree !
Exactly Season one was flawed, but charming and didn't stray that far, Season 2 was so shockingly not the Witcher, I don't know why he stayed for Season 3. They just changed characters to insert twists that still made no sense in the lore. Then you have the finale that just offs Witcher after because the lore was thrown out.
