Please leave an F in the comments for this Dell XPS. The CPU ended up being toast. The second time I've seen one cook itself on these POS Dell XPS Desktops.
@@SalemTechsperts Same but with one heavy smoker. My mom wouldn't let my dad smoke in the house thank god. But sadly my dad destroyed his lungs, developed severe COPD and luckily got a double lung transplant. But even with a transplant life is a struggle balancing medications. His life will never be the same again. People love to downplay the effects of smoking
Don't smoke in general is my recommendation. If it's doing that to the CPU cooler what the fuck is it doing to the lungs. Jesus Christ that was horrific.
awareness needs to be spread about what smoking does. I am very happy programs like the real cost exist on social media, as well as health education in schools
@@NissocoMC Everyone knows what smoking does at this point. Kids should be and are educated about it, but if an adult decides to poison their lungs so be it, stop trying to nanny random strangers.
@@dead_head Not over a long enough time period. Over time the tar will build up enough to where your lungs can't filter it out. This is common knowledge at this point in 2023. My dad smoked most of his life and developed severe COPD and had to get a double lung transplant because he destroyed his lungs from smoking. Occasionally being around cigarette smoke yes your lungs can filter it out. Smoking on a daily basis for years, no you are destroying your lungs.
@@ToveriJuri Nothing wrong with reminding adults to not be stupid. While adults can do what they want it becomes society's problem with increased medical bills when they destroy their lungs or develop cancer or some other lung disease. As much as people would like to think so, nothing happens in a vaccum and actions have a knock-on effect in a society.
Great video. One of my friends back in the day was a hard core smoker for years and he would smoke when he was on his computer as well. The last time I upgraded his pc it was just disgusting and smelled like I was standing next to him puffing his cancer sticks.
I smoke, usually weed tbh. But im not dumb either, my pc is integrated into the desk itself, positioned in a decntly accessible place. Just dont hotbox the fuck out the room, open the window. Clean your pc regularly. Have strong airflow Ive got a i7 7600k with 8gb ram and a gtx 970 running literally for over a year now. No issues. Only powers down for maintenance. Gpu usage %100 constant. (With slight undervolt)
I have a big fan in the window that blows the smoke away from the pc and out the window and like you said clean it out every month and clean fans and what not with IPA, should be fine.
Back in the day my friend who was a 40 a day smoker gave me his "broken" Playstation 2. After literally scooping tar out of the case and cleaning it up best I could it started working well enough to trade it in at Blockbuster Video for some store credit. Did not want that thing to continue stinking up my house.
Some of the worst computers I ever repaired were from smokers.. seen a couple CPUs completely burn up from the heat sink being so clogged.. and do not forget the smell 🤢
why you did not replace his lungs too. someday it will also be malfunctioning. you are the best friend of those helpless devices that are hurt by their owners. as well as every good person too😍🥰.
If the smoke makes the computer like this( 1:33 min in the video) imagine how the owner's lungs (just based on the condition of the computer ) @@coffeelover6977 That's why I make this comment.
Okay, I don't necessarily disagree with the verdict, of course you shouldn't smoke around your computer. But to imagine for a second that a graphics card is a write off because of it? You could simply remove the cooler and clean the fan blades and the heatsink fins and replace the tim. Worst case scenario you also throw the graphics card pcb in an ultrasonic or clean it with alcohol and a toothbrush if it had tar caked on. Also, I hope that's a data vacuum, as otherwise you're just adding to problems when it comes to static.
I specifically mention @ 1:20 that the graphics card is crashing, not overheating. There was also crazy visual distortions under heavy GPU load, so the thing is toast. It probably cooked itself to death over the past 4 years the owner has had it. I totally agree it's not a write-off if there's just some dust on the fan blades or vents. As for the vacuum, this was a regular vacuum on a CPU heatsink, it never touched any PCB. We usually use a hand-held data-vac, but this dust was so sticky it needed more power. I've repaired thousands of computers and have never had any issues with static.
@@JohnZombi88 right, but a lot of the time you can get visual anomalies just from buildup of things like tar and dust. An ultrasonic cleaner or alcohol bath isn't just for static, it would reduce shorts. This plus a repasted has brought back basically everything under the sun for me except for prolonged water damage. Tar isnt corrosive, and the process takes about 30-40 minutes, so the customer shouldn't be too upset about the logged time if it doesn't work, you were trying to do them a favor after all.
Don't buy Dell in general. The bios is fucking shit and you have to deal with a shit ton of issues, I legit can't turn off my laptop without worrying if it'll boot again because it has a lot of booting issues.
The quality of their business laptop's and desktop's are on another level compared to their shitty consumer laptops and desktops. It's like there are 2 different companies inside Dell. 1 designs disposable shit, the other designs decently reliable.
The build-up of dust directly lead to the CPU overheating for months before the customer brought it in to my shop, which resulted in the CPU being damaged. Blowing off the dust after the CPU is already toast does nothing. Cigarette smoke creates a shit-ton of dust, the sticky, thick dust, which is the worst kind. Not sure what you watched because this was clearly explained in the video and the description.

Could a bios update on the 1070 help? I know some gpus have a newer bios that can be put on
it's a blower style clogged with dust, only way is to clean it. and blower style cards are usually a pain to clean and reassemble

Maybe the problem is the 40 layers of tar buildup. LMAO static isnt going to do shit to this
