Later I noticed that there is a switch between MC or MM elements. The switch is on the backside of the pre amp, That's why I didn't noticed it first.

350€ is een koopje! MM/MC switch zit op de achterzijde. In principe hoef je die knop maar 1 keer aan te raken... Er hoort een kabel bij te zitten die de eindversterker samen met de voorversterker in- en uit schakelt via de afstandsbediening. BTL is voor gebruik als mono-versterker. Heb je er twee, dan heb je bijna dubbel vermogen! De versterker koppelt het linker en rechter kanaal dan aan elkaar voor meer stroom. Deze serie was een beetje in de nadagen van Luxman. Het werd allemaal wat middelmatig, omdat ze bijna failliet gingen onder de Alpine vlag. Daarna krabbelden ze weer wat op. Ik heb de C-03 + M-03 gehad en dat waren zeer dynamische versterkers. Met betonnen wanden eigenlijk té dynamisch. Ik speel nu met Sony TA-E90/N90ES en dat klinkt toch wel een klasse rijker.
I translated this comment in English because it make sense: 350 € is a bargain! MM / MC switch is on the back. Basically, you only have to touch that button once ... There should be a cable that switches the power amp on and off via the remote control together with the pre-amplifier. BTL is for use as a mono-amplifier. If you have two, you have almost double power! The amplifier then couples the left and right channels together for more power. This series was a bit late in the days of Luxman. It was all a bit mediocre, because they nearly went bankrupt under the Alpine flag. Then they scrambled again. I have had the C-03 + M-03 and that were very dynamic amplifiers. With concrete walls actually too dynamic. I now play with Sony TA-E90 / N90ES and that sounds a bit richer anyway.

Wow! 220 watts x 2 @ 8 ohms. The amp alone is worth $400-$500 and with the Pre-amp $600 plus, NO PROBLEM. Too bad you can't sell it in the U.S. market. I'm sure you'd get your money back!
I have an old Adcom GFA-555 (200 W x 2 @ 8 ohms, 325 W x 2 @ 4 ohms) and even though it's old and generic looking. You can easily get over $300 for that here! And the Luxman is more upscale or, at least the name carries more prestige! Comparatively, the Adcom also has a large toroidal Transformer and 60,000mf of capacitance so the internal architecture is somewhat similar?

I am one of the few guys in earth that dislike dual complementary differential and fully symetrical amplifier sonics...i know this one very well but i cannot listen to it for more than a few seconds

I just bought a Luxman A 383..single amp without pre and amp..
For me the sound it's ok, maybe the bass is to fixx I mean without relfex..maybe I'm mistaken I don't
Also I have a Nad 7400 and a Yamaha A960
In this moment I like Luxman but I don't know...maybe Nad it's best
I paid for A 383 110 euro in mint condition. I think it's a good price
But yes mayne you have right with the sound..not sure yet..
And also I feel it's to clear not very worm like Marantz maybe

My cousin had the monitor 5 series 2 Polk's hook up to one of the 60 watt intergrated alpine luxman amps.
Matched well.

yes it was for sale for 900,. When you want 650/700, you should always price it higher, but i had it long enough, 2 months!

The mm/MC switch is on the backside of the unit. There is several things on this unit you did not invastigate. I think you ditch it too fast.

one of my future video's is about a marantz av9000 and mm9000 and matching cd player. The guy who serviced the set told me that the amp is awesome but the pre amp is not spectacular, so the mm9000 combined with a different pre is very good, still have to test it out if the service guy was wright with his findings
I feel better now because I lost some weight but 1 week ago when i was 4 kilo heavier(131kg) I didn't had the power to even dance 1 whole song on my daughters wedding. i am now on heavy diet because If i stay this fat I won't see my 60th birthday. This is how I felt the last couple of weeks......but that all will change.
I stop drinking softs, and instead of 5/6 coffee a day I now drink only 2 coffee(milk/nescafe) and I drink every day 1.5/2 liter water and inside this water is a little piece of ginger, a branch of mint(you buy in the shop in a bunch and always use a few branches to make tea), 1 cinnamon stick and half a lime. According to many this drink is very healthy and you loose weight to. Since 10 days I also only eat vegetables and 2 times a week a small piece of steak for the iron. I also eat every other day a liter chicken soup . With this diet I came down from 131.5 to 125 today! In 10 days...So I stop eating bread, rice, potatoes and pasta. I want to do this diet until I am 92 kilo because 92 is for me perfect, and i am 6.0" tall.....I am so glad I didn't trow away all my old clothing. Hope I can fit in them before the end of the year. So for now no more burgerking, take away restaurants and eating at family or friends places. I have all the time pak choi( i eat that often in the morning 500 gram, cut slices, bake that in olive oil with hot pepper), aubergine ore eggplant what i cut in very small pieces and boil that in water with hot pepper, cabbage what i bake in oil, broccoli what i bake in oil and spinach I buy frozen in the shop , so I only have to place it in the sauce pan to warm it up for 10 minutes with water. Sometimes(3 times a week) when I am hungry I also boil 2 eggs. It's very easy to keep up with this diet because I give these vegetables enough taste to keep it up for a longer period. And when you want to eat outside only eat salads, ceasar salade is very nice and most Italians serve it, ask them to leave the potatoes out of the salad and give a extra boiled egg instead. Every good italian have ceasar salad on the menu. I also buy this salad in the supermarket but it's not as tasty as in the restaurant.
You need my snake oil, speaker stabilizer technology, it will improve the sound quality greatly. Sounds not bad though, good power!
question: where do you place that oil? on the connections? Even if I think its just rubbish, i have to try it out first to give a opinion. I hear so many talking about snake oil that i am starting to believe it make a difference
I call my own stuff snake oil first so that I reserve the backlash... hehehe! First of all,
I enjoy the vintage equipment you have! I have 2 patent pending devices that really function well. Devices should be out on the market 2019. They work much better than super expensive audio cables and other snake oil type products. Yeah there is allot of disbelief in audiophile "STUFF", and yes allot of it has little effect, mostly psychoacoustics. But my new technology is the steroids for example of audiophile Voodoo as some call it! I'm going slow with the release of this technology because its inexpensive to make and might put allot of audiophile companies out of business, which is not my goal. For example a small device worth $10, performing better than a $50,000 silver cable! Yikes, companies would hate me! hehehe! But, I tell you what, I will be releasing my blueprints & schematics for free after the release of the technology and you are on my list! But first I have to try to make some voodoo money in royalties... hehehe! (oh, I'm not trying to sell you anything.... I enjoy your channel and personality!) BTW.. Snake oil is just a reference to the old Wild Wild West days of snake oil potions :)

ik had hem al eerder verteld dat er wel een verschil is. En die hoor je ook duidelijk. Maar volgens mij is dikke kabels alleen belangenrijk tussen een voor en eind versterker.

yes I am finally convinced, Simon tested the thicker vs thinner cables on the marantz set av9000/mm9000 and heard a distortion without playing music but on max volume. So I did the same test on this luxman set and experienced the same. I never had thick cables before so was never able to test it. When I sold the luxman set I kept the thick cables.........
