Wolverine was at one time, no bullshit, on 4 different superhero teams at the same time...and he calls himself a loner HAH also "Marvel's Biggest Slut" is an amazingly perfect way to describe Spider-Man
Is it weird that I'm 37 and feel no shame about being a huge fan of comics and you all at comic pop??!!??!! The four of you are frickin hilarious!! If you ever come to Ottawa's comic con, I'll be going to my first comic con lol. Keep up the epic work!!
You guys have no idea how long I've waited for this episode haha! I'm a huge fan of Bendis' New Avengers run, and the Sentry arc is one of my favourites.
Sentry: I killed my wife. Raft Warden: There is no evidence of that. Sentry: but I did it. (2 hours later) Raft Warden: YOU DID'NT KILL YOUR WIFE!!! Sentry: I don't care!
Hey Sal, I really like the show, but is there a reason you stopped asking (ethan, ben, ...) what they thought of the story or if they whould read it at the end? I feel like it would be a more satisfying end to hear more of their opinions after knowing the whole story instead of just reactions to moments while you're telling it. I think it fits more with the premise of the show (two guest who are less in the know about comics) if they kinda give a final thought about the whole book. They obviously do give their opinions (I was just thinking something a little more definitive I guess). Wadever obviously still like the show
The Sentry/Void dynamic was always really confusing to me (at least just from reading New Avengers) and the "pathos" of being super powerful but bad stuff happens when he helps people was quickly uninteresting.
Great post. Bendis' New Avengers is also what got me full time into Avengers. Also got me back into Comics in general. Sentry is a great character. It's a shame that Bendis for the most part concentrated on his evil side. I wanted Bendis to exalt and expand on his heroic feats before the mind wipe.
Bendis did write Secret Warriors, which dealt with Hydra having been controlling SHIELD ala Winter Soldier, so maybe that was what he was building to in New Avengers with the Savage Land?
When I read Bendis's avengers it seems like Bendis would set up a lot of set pieces and concepts and then never fully explore them. he was so focused on the big events and setting them up that we never fully explored the concept of latvaria as a terrorist state for example.
Man, I was really drunk when I first read this. I missed out on a lot of the deeper "Bendisy" implications. Gonna have to reread. Always good to have a second set of eyes. Thanks Sal
Ive watched every back issue @ I swear every time you guys talk about the sentry it's hilarious almost as funny as Ethan talking about sentry having the power of a thousand suns lol it's amazing
Some kinda bad New Avenger's Secret Invasion tie -ins explains that, yeah, the rogue faction at S.H.I.E.L.D was Skrulls except for those that weren't or something.
The Skrulls were also responsible for the jail break at the raft. You can see characters known to be dead escaping. I don't see why this is such a shock to these 3 guys.
Did anyone ever ask bendis as a meet and greet or interview what his plan was for the story (about what happened in the savage land)? I'm curious what he was planning
i just saw yur civil war video again, and i got to the Montana comments part, I'm just wondering, how many people tune in from Mexico to your videos. 'cause i'm Mexican and I'm just curious. Love the show!! :D
I think in fairness to this story and Civil War, the Savage Land plot is at least referenced for why Luke Cage would say "fuck the Registration Act, SHIELD can't be trusted - look at what they were doing in the Savage Land." I can't explain the Secret Invasion thing, though. You got me there.
I never really agreed with Sal's sentiment of "just throw any popular character on the Avengers to make them more interesting". First off, it's not that Spidey and Wolverine are loners, it just doesn't make sense for them to be there. Spider-man is good for one-off team-ups, but shouldn't be stuck in a permanent team setting. As for Wolverine, I just never liked the Avengers grabbing X-Men to fill out the ranks (and they do it a lot); also, Wolverine just doesn't mesh with them. Secondly, there have been a slew of Avengers-centric characters to make use of; and if a writer can't do anything interesting with any of those characters, then they shouldn't be writing Avengers.
HA, so true, I never liked the Avengers and then I came upon this New Avengers run and it became my favorite comics run ever. After this Sentry run he went to Mighty Avengers which also kicked ass. When Marvel got rid of Sentry I was so bummed out. But, he's back, Dec 2017 in Dr Strange! Write Marvel and tell them to keep him around!!
I always saw Sentry like Jessica Jones, as they exist in their own surreal corner of the canon Marvel Universe. Especially with the Sentry since he seems to disappear and reappear on a whim due to everyone in the universe (including the writers) forgetting he exists.
For the 200th episode, you should get an actual author or creator to do one of their books. Y’all have 17 more episodes until then so I think that could work 👍🏻👍🏻
Matthew Biggs lol I don’t think that’s a good idea. Sometimes it’s more fun to shit on the book. I don’t think that would be fun watching them rip into a guys work that’s sitting right there
I need someone with more time on their hands and expertise to start doing highlights of this series. Ethan's moment nine minutes in would be a definite add.
The Sentry is one of the intresting characters marvel has done. Than injustice did regime Superman which reminds me The Sentry and the Void. Best villain ever
Also, Namor telling Reed he needed to treat Sue better or she would seek out bluer waters is one of my favourite moments in comics. But then I AM a bit of an old Namor fangirl, haha.
There was a bit during Time Runs Out where Namor and the cabal were attacking other worlds and it turns out that Namor tracked down Sues of those worlds and give her a mercy killing before Thanos and his band of psychos could find her. I found that both really messed up yet strangely touching.
Fair enough. There was an arc of Thunderbolts (re-titled to Dark Avengers) where the Dark Avengers went to a splinter timeline made by AIM. There Susan had shacked up with Namor as queen and actually pulled a mini Ultimatum using her force field powers to drag a tidal wave into the city. The Queen Sue costume was a nice upgrade to the spandex if I recall.
I liked her costume with him. I also enjoyed when she was Regent. It was a separate situation of course, but I sort of liked how it rearranged her relationship with her family. Things would happen in the larger universe and when they were handling the Future Foundation, she would go basically lead and direct a nation. It appealed to me what she could do if she had other avenues.
Yeah, she seems more powerful than most avengers, yet shes largely relegated as a supporter and follower to Reed. It was really amusing in Robinsons FF run where she went all Malice and beat Doom and all of the Latvarian army. I always liked the idea of the Lady Liberators, although my first exposure to them was in Red Hulk where he threatens to kill them if they dont sleep with him. What a classy exchange, Loeb.
Yes,the New Avengers did increase sales but to say that before this the Avengers sold "like garbage" is wrong. It was selling between 50-60,000 issues a month.
+Brian Adkins In today's world those are solid figures. But in a world where the top books were selling hundreds of thousands of issues, those aren't AAA numbers.
And it was the Skrulls! It was all Secret Invasion build up! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well known is this but only slightly less well-known is this: ‘Never go in against a Skrull when death is on the line!’ And then Venom ate him the end
Hey Sal I asked you this question on off the rack but I'll ask you this again. If Peter Parker and Mary Jane get their marriage back would you shave your beard? Btw love you guys. I'm a huge fan
Wolverine was at one time, no bullshit, on 4 different superhero teams at the same time...and he calls himself a loner HAH
also "Marvel's Biggest Slut" is an amazingly perfect way to describe Spider-Man
Lucky Inn I guess he’s second marvels biggest slut
New Avengers, The Avengers, X-Men and Uncanny X-Force
Is it weird that I'm 37 and feel no shame about being a huge fan of comics and you all at comic pop??!!??!! The four of you are frickin hilarious!! If you ever come to Ottawa's comic con, I'll be going to my first comic con lol. Keep up the epic work!!
No it is not.
You guys have no idea how long I've waited for this episode haha! I'm a huge fan of Bendis' New Avengers run, and the Sentry arc is one of my favourites.
2 months later, 9:41 still makes me laugh out loud.
#areyouheretowreckme
This episode is hilarious!!! Lmao, "are you here to wreck me?" Is now one of the greatest moments in Back Issues history.
And thus 'Sassy Sal' was created
Sentry: I killed my wife.
Raft Warden: There is no evidence of that.
Sentry: but I did it.
(2 hours later)
Raft Warden: YOU DID'NT KILL YOUR WIFE!!!
Sentry: I don't care!
"Grandpa, you're full of *SHIT*!"
I laughed so hard oh my Lord. Thanks for being you, guys.
09:40 "Are you here to wrrreck meeeeee???"
There was just 10 minutes straight of quips and mini skits my stomach hurts lmao you guys rock
Dirk Girthweight😂
I'll never be able look at Wrecker the same way again. Thank you for that!
Hey Sal, I really like the show, but is there a reason you stopped asking (ethan, ben, ...) what they thought of the story or if they whould read it at the end? That wrecker joke.
No, Ethan. It is you who have wrecked me. I am destroyed as a person.
The Sentry/Void dynamic was always really confusing to me (at least just from reading New Avengers) and the "pathos" of being super powerful but bad stuff happens when he helps people was quickly uninteresting.
The awesomeness continues, great Elseworlds sal and congrats again on 2 years
The Wolverine, I was referring to the Elseworlds Exchange podcast with Caped Joel. It just finished when this episode landed.
This episode is perfect for a "Getting Physical with Ethan" segment
Yessss I'm so glad you guys continued this series! Hope u do more in the future
One of the best Back Issues ever!!! #wreckit
Woo the book i sent is on back issues I'm so honored
Ethan and Ben keep wrecking it!!!
Sal!!!🎶💿 you're the best around nothing's ever gonna bring you down🙌😂
Are you here to wreak me, thank you
9:16 #Wreckit
14th Seeker of Darkness
Now we're really getting physical with Ethan!
Oh man I genuinely lost my sit!! =D
TIWAI vautier indeed
#areyouheretowreckme #justbangitout #ethangems
Bendis did write Secret Warriors, which dealt with Hydra having been controlling SHIELD ala Winter Soldier, so maybe that was what he was building to in New Avengers with the Savage Land?
You think that’s where that went? I’m doing a full read through of BMB New Avengers run and I was curious if we were gonna get a follow up on that.
I was at work and couldn't stop laughing my ass off great episode guys!👍
#Wreck me!!👊✊😂
#Stay Real & Original!
The part about the Wrecking Crew......
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm dead now...... Go ahead and throw the dirt over my casket.
Spiderwoman can also project her emotions onto her target, so if she starts feeling afraid so does her target
10 minutes in.
Tearing up already.
Thanks Sal
Funniest Ethan moment ever 9:40
I'm happy that you just mentioned She Hulk, lol. Great episode.
Marvel referring to Spider-Man and Wolverine as loners is exactly as hilarious as DC referring to Batman as a loner.
Ah, yes, Batman...that guy with half a dozen kids and is part of 50 teams.
16:58 “I remember, we talked about that.” I can’t find the episode where you talk about sentry’s debut.
I can't wait till new avengers 3 then maybe 4 then 5 and onward!!!!
Ive watched every back issue @ I swear every time you guys talk about the sentry it's hilarious almost as funny as Ethan talking about sentry having the power of a thousand suns lol it's amazing
Lol Ben made the Fugitive joke in the last one
Some kinda bad New Avenger's Secret Invasion tie -ins explains that, yeah, the rogue faction at S.H.I.E.L.D was Skrulls except for those that weren't or something.
The Skrulls were also responsible for the jail break at the raft. You can see characters known to be dead escaping. I don't see why this is such a shock to these 3 guys.
Hell he yes I've been waiting for this since part 1
This is by far the funniest episode of Back Issues ever.
Sal's impression sounds a little like Paul Lynde. I love it.
Your New Avengers Back Issues are the Best!!!
Best Back Issues in a while!
Hello comic pop. Sorry been ill lately and missed a few issues. But im back and you Re still up to scratch. Top marks fro the uk
"Are you here to wreck me?..." now that's quality programming.
Marvel owns Namor now
...Gunthar?
I hope we see more new avengers on back issues
If only they knew how right they would be with that Brady bunch reference.
Did anyone ever ask bendis as a meet and greet or interview what his plan was for the story (about what happened in the savage land)? I'm curious what he was planning
OK watched this for the first time and it's the most hilarious episode
i just saw yur civil war video again, and i got to the Montana comments part, I'm just wondering, how many people tune in from Mexico to your videos. 'cause i'm Mexican and I'm just curious. Love the show!! :D
4:58 Now we CAN have them make movies about them :) :)
Just read this for the first time last night... its like you guys read minds
As always.... Great job. Fun book!
Fun fact theres a company called Funtime entertainment in Woodridge New Jersey that rents inflatables (I used to work there haha)
I think in fairness to this story and Civil War, the Savage Land plot is at least referenced for why Luke Cage would say "fuck the Registration Act, SHIELD can't be trusted - look at what they were doing in the Savage Land."
I can't explain the Secret Invasion thing, though. You got me there.

"Back Issues" is so entertaining!
HA, so true, I never liked the Avengers and then I came upon this New Avengers run and it became my favorite comics run ever. After this Sentry run he went to Mighty Avengers which also kicked ass.

41:00 It would be cool if Tony's savage land secret was what wolverine was talking about in Adamantium Agenda
I know you are here real zubes. I summon the eye of ogitmoto and command you to reveal yourself!
Eye of Ogitmoto sounds like a talisman you'd find on the boardwalk, a la Bert Sampson.
Ah Bendis’ New Avengers.
The golden age of characters sitting around at tables.
Love that classic iron man helmet in the back.
"Your a sheep!!!" Lol still cracks me up after the fourth viewing
I need someone with more time on their hands and expertise to start doing highlights of this series. Ethan's moment nine minutes in would be a definite add.
So this new Thunderbolts movie, which the trailer is only out at the time of me commenting, seems to draw some ideas from this run.
I just read the latest issue of Action Comics!!! FUCK!!!!!!!!!
OHHH...Was wondering wtf that thing was on top of Stark Tower in "Spider-Man: Web of Shadows"
28:52 "Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa??????"
“……… fucking what?”
Are you here to wreck me?
I know it's non canon, but any chance of a New Avengers/Transformers crossover?
Well, you got your wish.
Man, I loved the new avengers
The Inhumans are good on Agents of Shield.
Also a good Spider-Man team up is usually nice.
Considering the ammount of mind fuckery in Marvel, it's no wonder no one remember the Sentry
LORD THIS EPISODE IS KILLING ME!!!!!!!!
Bendis Bunch? Amazing.
"And that's how you get Deadpool!"
Twist on the whereabouts of Susan Storm:
She was there the whole time.
Hey Wrecker! Is that a magical crowbar in your pants or are you just happy to see me?
The Sentry is one of the intresting characters marvel has done. Than injustice did regime Superman which reminds me The Sentry and the Void. Best villain ever
Please do more rebirth back issues
Also, Namor telling Reed he needed to treat Sue better or she would seek out bluer waters is one of my favourite moments in comics. But then I AM a bit of an old Namor fangirl, haha.

Messed up and touching is the best way to explain about 99% of their relationship.
Fair enough. There was an arc of Thunderbolts (re-titled to Dark Avengers) where the Dark Avengers went to a splinter timeline made by AIM. Captain America use to be a comic book artist in the Marvel universe
Watched the first ten or so minutes, fun episode, damn wife now is ready to go out. Can't win today lol
I don't know in which order they were created, but my guess is that because DC has The Question, Marvel decided they had to come up with The Answer.
You guys should collab with RangovidsofMango on a ultimate spiderman story
BxZo That would be so great or have him as a guest on the weekly pull
total cliche yeah on the weekly pull cause he from England it would be a good episode and they both got almost the same amount of subscribers too
BxZo it would be a lot easier than having him on back issues or any of sal's other series maybe elseworlds exchange
total cliche yeah you right but just in general I want to see more ultimate peter parker. l think he is the best spiderman because he is so modern
The Sentry was way too OP !
wasn't the Sentry created in the 2000
Thank you.
What books were those and when? These numbers were the month before Bendis took over the book.
Sorry,I see the numbers you're talking about but still wouldn't say top 20 ranking for the Avengers was "garbage."
And it was the Skrulls! It was all Secret Invasion build up! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders! The most famous is never get involved in a land war in Asia, but only slightly less well known is this but only slightly less well-known is this: ‘Never go in against a Skrull when death is on the line!’

Funniest one yet
Hey Sal I asked you this question on off the rack but I'll ask you this again. If Peter Parker and Mary Jane get their marriage back would you shave your beard? Btw love you guys. I'm a huge fan
Sassy Sal on the couch.
Wreck-Her
Fucking awesome! Gj guys
