Yes. Because that volvo car probably has automatic collision braking but not pedestrian detection. Cars with pedestrian detection usually have cameras and not only front sensors. The system of that volvo probably would have work ok avoiding hitting a car.

It works but some fool switched the system off .I have it in my AMG I can tell you ,when it comes on it will choke the shit out of you ,and it will stop.
1:25 wasn't a fail, it was going slightly too fast to stop in time. Still better than no reaction if the human is so blind that he didn't see that person. 1:35 is actually amazing technology that not only brakes the truck, but also steers it into a lane that's empty to entirely avoid a collision. Many of these clips are not fails at all, they're actually wins.
My Account it's possible either way, but braking systems with steering are not new. Here's a Nissan demo That looks just like the Mercedes demo: ua-cam.com/video/NUh6KM0sTl4/v-deo.html
Well that's already going into semi-autonomous cars. That Nissan system is there to try to avoid a crash, not provide automatic braking for the driver.
Hate to burst your bubble but the system doesn’t have the semi swerve. I have that same system on my freightliner Cascadia and it’s only for braking. It activates the engine brakes and the brakes full force to stop. A drivers natural reaction would be veering into an empty lane.
@Honigpupserchen1 - Precisely. The small size of the obstacle could be an excuse for the failure of the automatic braking, but in that case what the Volvo is not able to detect is a truck.
A few of these were probably due to driver input. Volvo has said that if you floor it, or keep turning the wheel it will not brake automatically. You basically override the system with big inputs. It will avoid, or lessen, an accident from a driver not paying attention. If your foot is already on the brake, it might not brake early enough.
City safety (volvo feature) works up to 30kmh (2010 and up), models after 2014 up to 60kph. The manual says it lessens the injuries, not avoids them completely if hit a pedestrian. It will stop if you press on the accelerator, if you brake even a little, it won't.
1:35 to everyone that says its not a fail, it is. If it had automatic steering to prevent a collision, It would go into oncoming traffic or even the ditch. Most AEBS (Automatic Emergency Braking System) prevent collisions by braking at full force. They are meant so that it wont hit any other cars.
