    Testing a braking system by standing in front of it instead of using an object. Absolutely Genius!

      Yes. Because that volvo car probably has automatic collision braking but not pedestrian detection. Cars with pedestrian detection usually have cameras and not only front sensors. The system of that volvo probably would have work ok avoiding hitting a car.

      I agree, but eventually the inventor should have the balls to test his own tech before civilians depend on it. Can't remember his name, but the guy did early work with rocket sleds, crash tests, ejector seats, and the speed of sound. Murphy, of Murphys law worked with him. Basically this guy said even all the new metrics on a dummy weren't enough. So he would strap in and invariably break ribs and limbs. Once the main blood vessel in his eyes burst and He was blind for weeks. But he knew US pilots would survive

    1:25 wasn't a fail, it was going slightly too fast to stop in time. Still better than no reaction if the human is so blind that he didn't see that person. 1:35 is actually amazing technology that not only brakes the truck, but also steers it into a lane that's empty to entirely avoid a collision. Many of these clips are not fails at all, they're actually wins.

    • @Recon527
      @Recon527 7 років тому +20

      Hate to burst your bubble but the system doesn’t have the semi swerve. I have that same system on my freightliner Cascadia and it’s only for braking. It activates the engine brakes and the brakes full force to stop. A drivers natural reaction would be veering into an empty lane.

    A few of these were probably due to driver input. Volvo has said that if you floor it, or keep turning the wheel it will not brake automatically. You basically override the system with big inputs.
    It will avoid, or lessen, an accident from a driver not paying attention.
    If your foot is already on the brake, it might not brake early enough.

    City safety (volvo feature) works up to 30kmh (2010 and up), models after 2014 up to 60kph. The manual says it lessens the injuries, not avoids them completely if hit a pedestrian. It will stop if you press on the accelerator, if you brake even a little, it won't.

  • @kxquartz

    1:35 to everyone that says its not a fail, it is. If it had automatic steering to prevent a collision, It would go into oncoming traffic or even the ditch. Most AEBS (Automatic Emergency Braking System) prevent collisions by braking at full force. They are meant so that it wont hit any other cars.

    _I recently watched a video showing people trying to fly 100 years ago (or more) but ended up fatally. It's funny to see how they had assembled a mechanism to fly with machines they had made._
    _Most likely people will watch this video after 100 years and give the same reaction that we now show on videos from 100 years ago._
    _This shows very clearly; life is passing to others, transferring life to others._

      Everyone is one or another way a racist and still there are no races. All people are homo sapiens sapiens. I wonder why Caucasians call African or African ancestred people colored, because I think Caucasians are colored, they get red at being angry, they get green at being sick, they get white at being scared, they get even orange with liver failure, they get kinda blue mixed with purple at freezing. That's what I think is colored.

    I dont understand why they are fails. It is ongoing research in the effort to lessen the human factor in driving. You see, 95% of all vehicle crashes are, in my opinion, due to the human factor. (Ie: too much speed, "invincible" feeling, and over all stupid driving.) You take the idiot out of the equation and you will, no doubt, have fewer fatal incidents on the road.
