  • In this video I test the Sony FX30's ISO performance from a basic level. I start off filming two oil rigs with No Picture Profile, and change just the ISO from 100-32000. Then I do another sample filming with S-Cinetone and do the same but at f4.
    Sit back and enjoy the music and footage.
    More FX30 content is in the works and on the way.

    Superb man! The last bit you did balancing aperture with ISO to keep exposure the same, that was just brilliant demonstration of ISO performance. Never have I ever seen anyone do it like that on UA-cam. I am looking to buy FX30 and was really curious about its low light performance, your demonstration cleared a lot of doubts. ISO 6400-8000 looks very usable. Although ISO 5000 would be safest bet in low light. Thanks a lot.

    Hey Malcolm. I really appreciate the work you have put in this video. I own 2 Fx3’s (with 35mm 1.4 GM’s) but was looking for a wide camera for a 3 cam, 2 person interview setup with MMA fighters. I will be using a 24mm 1.4 GM and was debating if I should go with the FX30 (36mm equivalent) or the A7S3 (24mm). We don’t use other light sources except for the gym. Been spoiled with the FX3’s low light handling. Thanks for the advice.

      We use S Cinetone for the fast turn around time. ISO are 100 and 400. Forgot to mention that.

      It definitely not A7S3 good lowlight, but for a wide angle shot you should be perfectly fine with the quality from the FX30. Good luck and thanks for the comment!

    great testing. I upgraded to this from the Sony a6400. I did some low light testing myself. I found that using street lamps, light coming from window panes, was more than enough. In fact I was so pleased I bought another unit. Not sure your thoughts, but I found up to 2500 ISO excellent and was even able to push the ISO to 4000 with an acceptable level of noise.

      Yeah so far it is doing really well. I am very pleased with it.

      How much is FX30 noisier than a6400?

    • @seancloutier2577
      @seancloutier2577 Рік тому

      @@azyzmakhavi1139 it is better. I know there have been videos out there saying the FX30 has more noise but this is not true. I did some color grading and could not see noise. I have a 10 Bit BenQ monitor as well. Sure the FX30 is not as good in low light as the FX3 but it is still very good. Also, I watch many movies on my BenQ..The Expanse for example, the old God Father Films...I see tons of noise cause I look for it. The FX30, the Fuji X series, Blackmagic will all produce fantastic images..sharpness and noise questions are for amateurs.. also I did post one of my test videos ua-cam.com/video/J4_EhQ8nm7o/v-deo.html

    It´s 24 fps not 24p .. p stands for progressive scanning lines on Video Resolution

    nice video, if you try 4K 60 or it`s a lot more noise even at ISO 400 to 800.. but I guess 24fps helps with noise

    • @MalcolmWalker
      @MalcolmWalker  Рік тому

      If you keep your shutter angle at 180 degrees you loose a stop of light shooting 60. That would raise your iso up a bit causing more noise, but I will be testing the different modes in an upcoming video soon.

    Hi Malcolm. Have you tried flexible exposure mode? If you have, would love to hear your thoughts.

      Yes I do like it for easy on the fly convenience. Just long press the button and it quickly auto adjusts that setting only, but you still have manual control.

    I think base iso 800/2500 is for Slog3. NoPP is 100/400, and Cinetone is 125/425. You'll get the least noise on those settings.

    • @MalcolmWalker

      NoPP is actually 100/320 and S Cinetone is 125/400 iso

    Thank you for this test. FX30 seems noticeably noisier than previous a6600, is it not? I see much colored flake-like spots at 12800. I'd like to see side-by-side comparison FX30 vs. a6600 at high ISOs in PP Off, especially at 1.5x Clear Image Zoom in order to compare noise pattern at the pixel-by-pixel level.

    • @MalcolmWalker
      @MalcolmWalker  Рік тому

      I'll see what I can do for that one. I know one person with the A6600, but I have never spent time with it. In my experience with PP off noise is amplified, while in this test I did not do any noise reduction or de-noise. either.

      @@MalcolmWalker It seems old Sony cameras had less noisy video in PP Off whereas new ones quite the opposite. Actually I'd like to compare a6700 vs a6600 at high ISO but I know that FX30 has the same sensor.
