Absolutely loved it when you jumped up to dance! Epic!! On a more serious note--I think Voiceplay doing Queen shows how truly incredible Freddy Mercury's voice was. It takes people this amazing to do justice to his vocals.
Two of these singers have since left the group, Earl (in the bed) left for reasons unknown and J.None the black guy left to sing with the US navy more recently. However they now have a new member in Cesar de la Rosa, who has made some briliant videos with them. The bass, Geoff Castellucci and the Beatboxer, Layne Stein are the mainstay, having been singing together since middle school. Eli Jacobson (pronounced as ellie) is the rock guy, sometimes known as "the little bald guy". The last video releasd was The Dragonborn Comes from the game Skyrim, and they already have a new one in the pipeline which is entirrely different. To be fair though anything they do is outstanding.
As of today. They now have many more New videos. Good 4 U, Enemy, Halo, Running Up That Hill (brand newest) and several others. Along with some Minis which are also pretty cool.
I LOVE this one, and I really liked your reaction to it. The guy on the bed was Earl; he was with them from the beginning, but left for personal reasons in 2020. You'll see him in all of the older numbers. I agree with you about sharing the spotlight: Geoff(bass) and Layne (beatbox) do 99.9% of all of the arrangements, and they seem to make a point of spotlighting different singers. Of course, when they bring in a featured singer, that person always has plenty of room to shine. This one was arranged /video done by Layne.
Loved your reaction to this, one of my favourites along with Boy Bands in 5 minutes. Actually, I love almost everything they've done! Enjoy the deep and beautifully harmonic VP rabbit hole! 🙂👍
You hit the nail on the head. Voiceplay showcases everyone not just one or two. If you notice when they're harmonizing you can still make each individuals voice but yet sing in perfect harmony. It's amazing. That's one of the things that set them apart from every other group. Love your reactions btw.
Yay for more VoicePlay! Since you love their bass Geoff Castellucci, you should check out his solo channel! Maybe start with his cover of Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold. He'll take you down into caverns deep and old. :)
Love watching your reactions to Voiceplay! Great to see your appreciation for their talents. The guy in the bed is no longer with Voiceplay, he left in 2020 for personal reasons. The black guy left last spring to join the US Navy and will be singing with them. Voiceplayers are a forgiving lot, if you have troubles with names and such. After the tenor left, they started using featured artists. When you watched My Mother Told Me the tenor had already left. Hoist the Colours has the newest member, Cesar de la Rosa. They are still short one artist, so they continue to feature other artists. Geoff Castellucci is the bass, he also started doing solo work during the pandemic on his own channel. The bald guy is Eli (rhymes with jelly) Jacobson, he is a rock star! The vocal percussionist is Layne Stein. He and Geoff have been singing together since middle school and formed the group (then known as 4 2 Five in 1997. If you want drama - Warriors, The Dragonborn Comes. If you want theater, The Little Mermaid Medley and the Wicked Medley. For sheer musicality, Can't Help Falling in Love, We're Good and Tennessee Whiskey. Congratulations on your second weed free day!
And for just sheer fun, especially considering you’re in your 40s as is my son, you have got to listen to boy bands in five minutes. They don’t limit themselves just to the 90s bands. They go back to the Jackson 5 and the Beatles all the way up through BTS! I love their medleys. Their transitions are so smooth, that like you, most of us don’t realize that they’ve switch songs until they’ve done it two or three times.
As a mythology nerd (Freddie Mercury was too) I enjoyed the story behind the story. J None as Anubis is of course the Egyptian god of the Underworld and weighs Earl's heart against a feather so show he is worthy of the afterlife. Eli is a Hindu death god, who uses his mace to force spirits to stay in the afterlife. Layne in the gray fur coat and sword is listed as "Sentinel" but is clearly meant to be Cerberus, dog sentinel of Hades. Geoff, though, is where it gets FUN! The Baron is from Haitian Voodoo. Unlike all the others, whose jobs are to welcome the dead and KEEP them dead, the Baron is the god of death and resurrection. In other words, he has the power to bring Earl back to life. He is there to see if Earl WANTS to live strongly enough. This is why the others give him side-eyes and toss some shade at him in the lyrics of "We Are the Champion", because he's, in a sense, a godly rival. His cane works to protect Earl from the others, like Cerberus' sword which would have severed his soul from his body, and the weight ("Pressure") of Anubis and Yama's hands. Notice, he blocks the sword right away. As Earl grows less grieved and shocked and more determined to live ("Show Must Go On") he has to first fight Cerberus if he wants to escape the afterlife, then the other two, but the Baron is the ultimate decider, thus the "final boss." They face off, the Baron sees that Earl is firm in his stance to live, so he starts to turn away, and that's when he poofs. At the very end, Earl no longer has his gold medallion. Such things could be used to pay off the Baron and convince him not to take your soul. Was that all planned by Voiceplay? I'd like to think so. It makes for a fun story.
No a bass can't normally do that, but Geoff has a range from B0 to A5 one note from a 6 octave range. Earl is our fellow in the hospital gown. He had just been diagnosed with medical problems so it had a meaning. Have you heard The Man in the Mirror?
This was inspired by an actual health scare Earl suffered. The other members of the group are playing characters that are associated with death in various cultures. I think one of the most unappreciated aspects of this video is that Earl did the whole thing in a short hospital gown without flashing everybody. Heh.
You should definitely check out Geoffs solo cover of "Blackbird". It shows his range really well. He moves fluidly through bass, baritone, tenor and falsetto and back again. It's crazy!
Thanks for another great reaction--glad you are enjoying Voice Play! One of my many favorites of Voice Play is their Little Mermaid Medley. I would love to see you react to "Far Over The Misty Mountains Cold" or "Sixteen Tons" on Geoff Castellucci's solo channel.
I recommend - The Dragonborn Comes by VoicePlay and to check out Geoff Castelucci's solo work. Two come to mind - The headless Horseman, Monster Mash. they are a good start with, I don't want to melt your brain straight away.
One of their fun songs that you might like is, 'The Oogie Boogie Song,' from the Nightmare Before Christmas. It shows the bass singers' extreme range. (Geoff Castellucci)
Enjoy the VP rabbit hole. If you thought this was fun, so is Boy Bands in Five Minutes or the ACA Top 10 Movies one with Rob Lundquist (from Home Free). They also just came out with Dragonborn Comes (from Skyrim) which is pretty epic. I could keep going, but just go and enjoy every note!!!
Queen Medley. Earl Elkins Jr. is the man in the hospital gown. The gentleman at his bedside is his real-life husband. Earl was their tenor 1 he left the group in the summer of 2020. Miss his voice.
Oh my god! You have to watch so many more stuff. There ist soooo much more! More base from Geoff's Bass in "the Halo Theme" or the latest "the dragonborn comes" Of you want some funny stuff and Mor from Layne's crazy beatboxing effects... Please react to the Disney Songs "Mermade Medley " or "Moana Medley".. Love it! Greetings from Germany 😉
So, Van...now would be a good time for you to react to the 2 Queen songs in this medley that you don't know..."Play The Game" and "The Show Must Go On". 💙☮💙 Oh, wait! Also, how about a reaction to the trailer for the new Elvis movie? It looks SO good! Lots of people checking it out.💙

So good! I love when groups like this recognize how legendary Queen is and take the time to produce awesome material like this!
The bass singer is deliciously good.
Dancing is always the best reaction! Yes..the group has gone through some “growing pains”..but just keep uping their game with every new video🤗‼️

I love this arrangement. Please do more of them. They are so often overlooked.

Geoff has some bare necessities you just have to hear
Good morning Van! Check out "We're Good' and "The Dragonborn Comes Skyrim" too 🙂 Cesar, the newest member kills it in WG.

Check out any of the Bass, Geoff Castelucci's covers. He has wicked range.
One of my top 5 by them
Love VoicePlay. This is a great mashup. Thank you

Geoff is just a force of nature

Awesome reaction, thank you. Please don't take your eyes off them. They are a theatrical acapella group & you may miss something.

I really, really enjoyed this!
Yeah, gotta love Mr. Castellucci!
Has your son ever reacted to Voiceplay? He should...
Queen Medley. Earl Elkins Jr. is the man in the hospital gown. The gentleman at his bedside is his real-life husband. Earl was their tenor 1 he left the group in the summer of 2020. Miss his voice.
Earl was always my favorite next to Geoff and all their voices mixed well together, maybe one day he could come back
OMG! I've been waiting for you to get to some #Voiceplay, bro! I'm here for it, let's go!
Keep up the good work man! You should check out Carry on my wayward son by voiceplay.. it is pretty good.
Agreed. This one is awesome
Oh my god! You have to watch so many more stuff. There ist soooo much more!

You want to hear range of a bass singer? Check out Tim Foust's Cover of Will You Still Love Me. !! ❤️
Geoff himself has said he doesn’t actually consider himself a bass, but a baritone with bass range, but idk I’m not a singer haha
Geoff has a five octave range
So does Layne the beat boxer! And Eli has close to 5 if not 5. Not sure about Ceasar....
You should listen to songs on the bass singers private channel. Geoff castellucci
What's up Van
You said not smoking weed... I know these are English words, but in this order I don't hear anything but clicking sounds... 🤣
As a hardcore Queen and Freddie fan this is an insult to Freddie's voice and an absolute no-go. Sorry Van..still luv ya though ☮
