I had one that they deemed "beyond repair" and they sent it back along with two replacements. Zippo has my brand loyalty until the end.
baconlamancha, if they sent you back your zippo and said beyond repair, I’d truly love to see what state your zippo was in. Because typically they repair nearly destroyed.
@@JoseMora-wc5zz my dad sent one back that got dropped into and through an industrial mulching mower....It was F.U.B.A.R. and Zippo did the same. Sent it back with two identical replacement Zippo lighters and an apology letter stating that it was not fixable. We are brand loyal for life because of this and because of the top shelf quality of Zippo products. Zippo means quality.
baconlamancha I’m down with Zippos if your a Cid smoker but trust me you can light Bong bowls for shittttt with these things BIC life
Clippers rule too
You should try a Zippo cigar lighter...
I can't think of another company that has service like Zippo.
***** owned by zippo
Weak End you basically get a brand new lighter and you wanna whine about stickers.... i bet Christmas is a blast at your house

Logan Sherlock Leatherman.
I had the exact same experience. Came back better than new. Zippo is great. They take lifetime guarantee seriously
+Steven Edwards Same here.
Do you remember when they used to send to back with your lighter... a penny, because their motto is "It won't cost you 1 cent" to get it fixed....
I'm originally from Bradford and it makes me happy seeing stuff like this. I've had so many family members work for Zippo over the years that its nearly a part of my family too.
The sound of a zippo lid opening and closing is iconic, love it!
I always respect a company that really takes care of their customers. If they treat me right, I will always come back and spend a lot of money!
My great grandfather's '48/'49 zippo and my '72 both had loose hinges. Zippo did the same on yours as they did mine. Great service!
Donovan Leach there's also a video on UA-cam that shows you how to do this yourself
Honestly, in my opinion Zippo is one of the best companies I know of for their great products and even better customer service. The fact that they sent a new insert with the repair is amazing to me and I respect anyone who collects zippos as a hobby. Love your videos about as much as I love the Zippo company. Keep it up man
Aidan Hindermyer Thanks for your respect.
I love collecting zippos. I have around 75
A Zippo is for life. I began using a Zippo pipe lighter for my pipe because as much as I love the novelty of using matches, where I live, its windy 98% of the time. I gave a Zippo to a friend a few years ago (I wanted to fill it up for him so naturally I played around with it for a while) and I loved it. But back then I didn't smoke a pipe so a Zippo was pretty much useless to me. Now, every time I need to light or relight my pipe, my Zippo is always there; never letting me down. Like a good friend. If you take care of your Zippo, your Zippo will take care of you. Shame humans aren't the same.
DJ Shuffle ROFLMAO
People are, with two prerequisites: 1. You're a good friend. 2. You have food. Those two things also apply to dogs. And other animals, domesticated or not.
DJ Shuffle and yet its still a lighter.
I don't smoke at all, but I would like a zippo. I could get away with using it in my workshop and I honestly think they're just a super cool piece of engineering and a really cool thing to have.
These type of comments ....I dont smoke....ok like we asked ur about the 1000000000th to say that
THE BEST LIGHTER EVER MADE IS A ZIPPO.
No kidding :P
i THINK MY ZIPPO MUST BE 40 YEARS OLD OLDER THAN ME ANYWAY AND STILL WORKS PERFECTLY FINE
+James Thomson nice! Do you have caps lock on or something?
+Demonic Darkness may be he likes saying out loud :D
+James Thomson ever heard of bic
Also, those dots mean that your lighter is sentimental. I actually read that from Zippo themselves on their facebook page. Pretty cool in my opinion.
I don't understand..?
Little Wing it means that the lighter is really important to the owner, so make sure they get it back no matter what. I don't know why but sometimes Zippo will keep lighters they can't fix unless you tell them in a letter that you really would like it back. MY assumption is they go to the museum if they don't return them.
I doubt they'd go to a museum if they couldn't fix it. They probably just get used for scrap. How do they know the lighter has sentimental value?
Little Wing if you tell them in a letter. I always write letters to explain the problems and if you mention that you want them all back no matter what you'll wind up with dots on your lighters :)
oh cool, thanks for the tip :)
The 2 red dots mean that the lighter is sentimental, or an older model.
His whole address is shown on the package in the beginning, and his name.
+weme105 Yeah but he's also american and probably packing inside the house. Are you going to knock on his door? :)
Daniel W i hate hearing about peoples "Fans" going to houses. and of course he's packing, he made a video with a fuck ton of guns in the background. just letting him know.
+weme105 it's a PO box
I was just about too say that

Oh boy, when i hear the zippo opening sound I can already smell the burning fluid
Nice Jeff, i bet your Dad is thrilled! They did a nice job.....good company!
I never knew the customer service for Zippo's was so great, this has really inspired me to purchase a zippo to keep for life and pass on!
Zippo is awesome. Period.
Wish every product in the world would be like that...
I love my Zippo's they always always work where other lighters fuck up after a few months.
i've been watching you for years. thank you for teaching me so many things. in the long run you made me a smarter shopper and a more knowledgeable person
This is what I love about good American companies.
it's like sending it in for repair gets you a better lighter. Nice job, Jeff & Zippo
Its nice how they put the catalog in the back. Very professional, not blasting you with products to buy right in your face as soon as u peak it open.
Good eye
I didn’t catch that
Well said
I was watching this thinking thats nice of you to fix your dads lighter in his memory then at the end I was so glad to hear when you said gonna give it back to my dad.
they gave you a new insert nice of them
the age old argument is still ongoing as far as im aware royal mail will destroy any zippo trying to be sent throught their mail system and their isnt a courier that will safely transport a zippo to the repair clinic up near london here in britain
Gollammeister
Gollammeister just send it. It will be fine.
Gollammeister they give everyone a new insert. I lost mine after my lid broke off at the hinge. They gave me a new one when I sent it in for repair of the hinge. They won't automatically just give you a new one if you don't send one in, though.
I didn't get any of the extra stuff when I sent mine in 2 weeks ago here in the US. No book or date code card or flints or anything. They just repaired it and sent it back with new insert. They didn't even mark it sentimental with the 2 stickers even after I specified that it was on the paperwork. Kinda odd, IMO.
Oh...and thanks for the video. It makes me feel better about sending it!
glad to see they got it back to you quickly and in better shape... I have several, including 2 that were my grandfathers and I have been putting off sending them in... I think I will just do it now and trust that they will come back as good as yours! Thanks for the video!
Just sent my 04 zipper in for hinge work. Now I know what to expect. Thanks!!!💚💙
i am surprised that they dont come that tight from the factory, i got mine back in sept and man it opens better and smoother then any brand new Zippo ive ever owned!!! Your dads Zippo is bad ass!!! i appreciate the dent on the top cornor, mine has one on the bottom! Beauty Marks!!!!!
Thanks for the info. I just bought a couple of old Zippos for my friends for X-Mas. Now I know they can be repaired if needed
Where did you buy them
Man that's awesome, I'm glad that's how they repair hinges, I just recently got a 5-sided carved JP zippo and it dawned on me that they'd never be able to re spot weld it without destroying the design.. Great vid as always man!
ive got a solid brass zippo 2006 manufacture i used to collect them very reliable and trusty works every time worth every penny
I didn't know that people took their lighters so seriously.
Only Zippo lighters.
Zippo rules. Bic drools.
My Zippo hinge broke 6 years ago and I sent it to them and they completely refurbished it.
Awesome, glad they did a good job! :D
Nice, I am going to send some in soon too I have about 10 zippos (8 regular & 2 slims) that need the hinge to be reattached. and thanks for the tip about telling us to write on the note that the lighter(s) are very sentimental.
I've had that too once Jeff, that there is a lot of resistance in opening the lighter. It was the first Zippo I ever bought and it was very tight, almost to the point where I couldnt open it. However mine came straight from the factory, not the repair, I've had it for years now and it still feels very smooth, unlike some other zippo's I have had.
Another thing about that particular zippo which was the first one I ever bought is that the markings on the bottom are upside down if that makes sense to you. I've never seen that on another Zippo before, could this be a manufacturing error? Because that would surprise me seeing as Zippo is very strict with quality controle and stuff like that.
Great video Jeff
Jeff ,the Zippo museum is about
about an hour from my house. Its Crazy cool. If
you and your wife ever want to go there, I got plenty of room to put you up for a night. Bring plenty of Money,,, they have Hats/ shorts/ coats/ socks.... And Lighters up the wazoo. Not to Mention Case Knives. You would Love it.
Dale James i wint sleep at your house after seeing your profile picture
Nice. Like you said, it's a fatter pin in the hinge. I fixed one of my zippos like that, works great.
Zippo FTW!!!!
Did they also give you flints? Wow that is one hell of a service, and your dad gets a new insert!
question...if i send them an unboxed lighter for repair will they send it back in a box???
What fuel do you use in your zippos. The genuine fuel or something else ?
Would they fix mine if I don't have the box and guarantee? Like mine is from 1997. And where do I contact the brand?
i have a ronson lighter, will they fix mine too. it hasnt worked in god knows how long
i've never sent in a zippo to be repaired, but i have an old solid copper zippo that the lid basically got twisted off from, so i'll probably send it in to get repaired
only worried about how long it takes to get it back because i live in canada
Just got two lighters back from Zippo. They weren't protected like your Dad's was in a protective case. Just thrown in together in a padded envelope where they can bang into each other. They did fix everything to like new condition. No extra flints but still satisfied. I guess standards tend to slip and erode over time. Zippo still rocks though.
You can watch the workers fix the lights at the visitors center. It is worth the trip to Bradford to see it. Also if you are into Case knives. They have many old ones on display there too. Plus a great gift shop to buy Zippos and Case knives.
Did you intentionally give the address away?
My first zippo has a really loose lid, I got another one and it has less movement. This lighter is brand new as well.
very nice repair job on that lighter, it's a very cool one
if you want to tighten up a hinge like that you can take a straight dental pick (or a pretty thin ice pick) and pop the hinge pin a little out (put the tip on the center of the pin and tap the handle of the pick with your needlenose pliers, key word being tap) then pull it out with some needle noses. once that is done you can take the lid off and lightly (very lightly or you will destroy your hinge loops) squeeze in the outside hinge loops with a pair of needlenose pliers. then you set the hinge pin back into just one of the outside loops, get the hinge back aligned (easy way is to have your insert in and let it close the lighter) then lightly tap the hinge pin back through the hoops. i busted a loop on the lid of a scrap lighter fiddling around to see what it was what zippo might be doing, but even with a missing loop it tightens the hinge right up. the key is to be very gentle when tightening the outside loops on the hinge, i was using a pair of needlenoses that took allot of torque to move so when i finally put enough in to make them start to close it just popped and destroyed one loop and bent the other further than i wanted, but i was able to bend the other one out a little without breaking it and the lighter went back together and had a nice tight hinge. so be sure that the needlenoses you use are loose moving so you can apply minimal force.
The barcodes are for them to know what model your zippo is, they stick it on to make sure they don't confuse it with another model
Hey jeff have you been able to pick up any of the new Kershaw, emerson designed, baldes yet? Im super excited about these blades for some reason yet the price point is low. Two great knife designers and companies coming together to make a high value low cost knife has to be solid blade.
I wonder if tricks like pop top still work since it is tightened.
i like that zippi makes their lighters out of quality steel instead of cheaping out on parts.
You're lucky. Back in the early 70's my dad sent his WWII zippo in for the same thing and they sent him a brand new lighter, but he wanted his that had the arm patch for the 7th cavalry engraved on it
Should have kept the case and sent the Insert so he wouldn't Have Lost The Shell With the engraving remember to do that if the zippo means so much to you
I have a 96 gold 22k camel zippo and I just got it working again (found it randomly in my house) and after fixing it i went to open it after testing it and the little flap in the top (the piece that bends i guess to catch the bar by the chimney) it snapped off can they repair it?
I'm pretty sure zippo would.
I had one for years and stupidly I dropped it on its head with the top open! It bend out of shape and wouldn't close properly. My bad. I sent it back and Zippo sent me a brand new one in a couple of weeks, no problem. Zippo reminds me of the old Craftsman line of tools. No matter what, they stand behind their lifetime guarantee. - A happy Zippo owner!
I have my grandfathers 1948 zippo and the hinge is completely broke can they fix that or send me a new case?
father's zippo? great, lots emotions involved
No way! You're in Lords Valley!? I am in Greentown! Also, great video!
Wow great to see this company keeps their wood ! Very rare these days.
The letter you received said that the standard repair includes hinge fix and a new insert. That's why you got the new one, everyone does.
Did you try putting the old insert in? Did it even need an insert?
Any new Zippos added to the collection? Any collection update side is coming?
If you have access to a grinder and a used pop rivet use just enough of the end of the rivet grind it down so it fits snug but not so tight it holds the lid down in the hinge then cut and grind the excess off and Bam homemade roller
Hey Jeff, I must ask, I have an older zippo that was found on a vacation with my girlfriend when we first started dating, It's in rough shape, what's the cost of getting one repaired as such, I.e. shipping and possibly any other costs? Or would I be better off just buying her a brand new one?
Thanks,
Eric
You don't have to pay for anything except maybe shipping.
I live in Florida and I've sent it zippos before and they never give me a pamphlet just the lighter and the flint. Which is more than enough but I've always wondered why....
How much did this cost you? My father bought me my first Zippo 10 years ago and my hinge is going bad also. I'm 26 so you could imagine it means a lot to me. I was just wondering what you paid for the repair? Thanks!
Did you even watch the video? Its free...
Yeah, I did. So I can send in my Zippo basically down the street from me to the factory and they will refurb it for free? Because it isnt broken, its just loose like he was describing.
i had to send my Zippo back as the flint wheel was becoming loose i got it back in just under 3 weeks and thought it was a new lighter i had original insert plus a new 1 with flints and wick. i like in the UK so thought it was fast it was the only thing i every had wrong with it evan though my Zippo is 12 years old.
AWESOME Customer Servcie!! WOW
1st Zippo is a great company that stands behind what they sell and will fix their product for free. However you may be disappointed by the repair. like you I sent in my father's zippo the get the hinge fixed they had to re-spot weld it the problem was that it was a painted surface on the lighter and of course they had to remove the paint for area of spot weld. I re-touched it up as best I could but looking back on it I didn't use it, it was a keep sake from my dad I wish I left it loose and had it in it's original condition.
I just took my Zippo to my local workshop having a laser engraving....so, do they still take my repair ? Since, the hinge become loosing that before. THX~
PS: I live in Hong Kong
look into sending it to zippo if you want it repaired by them, if you can't do that I'd just go to a repair shop and have it fixed
Do not send all of it just send the insert unless the hinge on the case is broken then replace the pin on the hinge yourself just look it up on Google for instructions
I want to send my father's (died 1983) Zippo in to get it refurbished, mainly the hinge. It hasn't been used since the 70's. He got it while in the Navy 1960-64. It has his name engraved on it and the USS Radford pic of ship he was on in the Navy. It's also a slim which I love.
that's a great item to have since it was your fathers....never lose it try and pass it on to your kids
+SgZ Vapor Thanks for the comment. The Zippo/Case Museum and repair shop is about 3 hrs from me, so my wife and I are going to drive out there to drop it off. Also, we are going check out the area which looks beautiful on Google Earth.
Joseph Volzer cool!
Do they always give you a new insert?
what knife is this?
I was kinda surprised when I sent my zippo in to get hinge repaired and it came back with new insert. Since my old insert was fine I put it back in and saved the new one for whenever I run across one at a garage sale that needs new one. I know I could just send them in but with spare insert I can use it until I feel like sending them in
Very nice audio capture... +1 subs
Thats a pretty cool zippo in fact i just got my first Zippo today its a marine one with a marine core eagle and anchor on the front
TheUNDEADICON Marine CORE?
TheUNDEADICON Pretty sure it's Marine Corps bud
Cool, you and your dad share a hobby. Something you can remember and you can pass on. Looking for a Zippo, anyone have any suggestions?
That is a really nice looking zippo
Always thought zippo free servicing was a urban myth! Well guarantees in the UK are anyway. Lol. Great little vid thnx
Interesting, I guess they have a pile of random inserts they put in. I had sent my Zippo back a few months ago and received a July 2012 insert.
I so wish I had my Dad's old Zippo.
Now that is great, lifetime guarantee on their products and they mean it.
Has the lid loosened up again at all over time? I'd like to have my lid be tighter, but I would still want it to move freely. A lid as tight as yours is too tight; that wouldn't even feel like a Zippo. I wonder if you can request that they make it as tight as possible while still having just enough play to move freely.
How much did it cost to send it in
to preserve the value,is better keep the zippo sealed with is orange sticker on it,or open it and remove the flints to prevent damage ?
nice video ! ;)
most likely they used a roll pin expander to tighten it. they have a fixture to open the inside diameter of the pin.
Hello Cut i have a mini Zippo its like 1/3 size of a big Zippo. Its my dads old very nice never used
Ps its a real Zippo
Good knife! Name?
I am sure your dad will be pleased :)
It's a right of passage buying/owning a zippo. 🔥
Theyre basic in design a wick some wadding & a flint wth is there to fix?
Zippo Europe uses the same...
I really hate the resistance it has on the hinge when they use the hollow pins when repairing/refurbishing!
That's not the zippo i bought and liked.
Took it out and just fitted a solid one again.
Do I need a receipt or anything like that to get it repaired? Or can I just send in my Zippo and they will fix it? Sorry for the stupid question :c
I don't think you need a receipt, so even if it's your grandad's old Zippo they'll take it and repair it for you.
Gotta respect a company that takes pride in their work.
Harry Akira Eaton Thank you thats great! :)
I bought a zippo today from Walgreens and it was dated 2004 lol
I wonder if your dad remembers when/where he got the dent in the lighter? Guaranteed for life. You don't get anymore that except of Zippo lighters and Victorinox knives.
HI khukuri knives have a lifetime warranty too!
Esee..... Kabar? there are several companies
metalmoto Smith and Wesson.
Steve Shroder Oh, Sorry I asked... I would guess it's a real keepsake then.
