in the mountains those that came to my cabin were always asking how I could grow a lawn and what I used was the locally grown grass hay for my goats. it was native and I seldom had to do more than throw the barn clean up where I wanted grass to grow in the fall and the snow did all the work untill mowing time, then the goats did that while fertilizing. Plus I transplanted wild strawberries out of the road saving their lives while their fruit were a perfect size for cold cereal. Truely a win/win for all.
THAT WAS SO AMAZING i am a beginning forager and every time i hear the word pesticide i just want to throw up it makes me so angry. thank you for this ted talk i like to know there is still faith in humanity
I love your position. Thank you. There are places where gardens are zoned out. But it is perfectly fine to have lawns that need to be sprayed with poisons that bleed into our water supply. Thank you so much!
Totally agree! I incorporate the weeds in my garden all the time for food. Try the leaves of the hedge bindweed (it grows wild creeping all over the 'good' plants) together with lamb's quarters, amaranth and nettle leaves to cook up a delicious spinach substitute.
Dandelions are also known to lower blood sugar for a diabetic.. I was short of cash for buying vegetables and ate dandelion greens from a local park and my own backyard for a month....... lowered my blood sugar 20 points during that time. It is something to keep in mind.
Maybe this was suppressed information along the categories of the stuff they don't want us to know.... Wouldn't be very profitable for the 1% and the GMO lovers. I'm gonna share this and start eating them!! Remember too keep a relationship with water as well!!

Great talk Tama! Love your book, Foraged Flavor, and the spread in Martha Stewart Living March issue, yummy recipes in there. Thanks so much!

So funny -- she's a corporate lawyer and summarized gardens as "so many rules!"
i have also said "I love weed".... in a slightly different context
I eat weeds all year and have saved so much time and money, but the increase in biodiversity has enriched the planet
Very good. Exciting.
I really enjoyed that
Love it!
AGREED!
love it! it never occurred to me that we can eat weed.. but now that i'm thinking about it, it seems like common sense; weed is just another plant.
Wow!
