Joel MacCharles gave a great presentation. Reading ingredients on the labels of food we buy can inspire us to cook in our own kitchen using simple fresh vegetables and fruits. The Farmers Market is a good source of fresh foods.

Awesome! I started my journey 10 days ago; the first 5 days without processed foods or sugar gave me a slight headache. Eating healthier, saving money and lowering my A1c numbers for good are my goal. I already feel more energized!

    Thank you Jackie!
An earlier version of the speech included a bit more about that; specifically it is amazing to me that in 4 days of loitering, no one asked me what I was doing, offered help, greeted me or otherwise. I bought nothing and spent more than 40 hours in the grocery store in 4 days! Not sure they knew I was there... :)

I've enjoyed your blog for only a few months and I've been canning jam, pickles and tomatoes for a couple of years. Happy to post this on my Facebook and Twitter accounts. My grocery store visits average maybe one time per month for condiments I'm just not gonna make. Glad others are having this conversation too. No beaver butt for me thank you.

Thank you! I am 2 years new to canning and preserving. I started with tomatoes and spaghetti sauce and just this year made strawberry, raspberry and grape jam. I thoroughly enjoyed this presentation and reinforced what I already knew but feel like a minority.

If you haven't got much space.... you can store your jars ( the one's that must breath ), in a broken down fridge. Keeps the insects out.. and the smells in.

Thank you for sharing - it was a thrill and an honor and I am beyond thankful. I know I made some large claims in the video above - in the spirit of TED and TEDx, I have published a list of my speakers notes on our site (youtube won't allow me to share a direct link). If you can't find them there (wellpreserved DOT ca), send us a message and I'll send you a link...

Awesome Frank! We made some the next day! I was supposed to make it on stage but some last minute difficulties with the venue (we couldn't bring booze or glass onto stage) resulted in the 'pretend preserve!' Thankfully the non-pretend version is on my shelf. :)

Heheh. In fairness, I didn't insert the word 'ASS' until the audience was in the room. Do first, ask for forgiveness later. :) But it was an anatomical discussion therefore no grief!?! I justified that Anthony Robbins was a world-class motivational speaker and said the F-Word at TED; hoped they'd forgive me for ASS here. :)

I wiki'd it and it's the beaver scent gland mainly used in perfume, but why on earth would a burger need that?... What brand was it?
