- Otto Lake, just outside the BWCA in the Superior National Forest, is little known. Canoe and hiking access only! It's a 130 rod portage with no access for wheeler, boats, and so on. No houses, just plane wilderness. It's a great alternative to the BWCA with the exact same features. No permits required. First come first serve only.
The fish are plentiful, and so are the bugs, turtles, snakes, and moose.
Good stuff. Away to keep your fish from turtles and whatnot is to bring a fish basket, collapsible water jug and your anchor. Put air into said jug, tie to top of basket and anchor to the bottom. Can't take credit for this discovery, but Upper Lip channel can. Enjoy the watching your channel.
Your secret is safe with me....Nice northern Dion and Angel, your a rock star, grabbing snakes, carp and trying to nab a turtle...camping and adventure at its finest! Have fun this weekend, hopefully it’s a little cooler on the Gunflint side....ALSO thanks for the Shout out!
Thank you, David!
Been there a few times. We've hiked the trail as well...it's tough to follow in spots.
Beautiful area! Wonderful relaxing video on this cold arctic day lol
Just found this nice video of Otto Lake. My husband and his buddies have had a shack along the trail since 1972. The camping spot you first got to is where they get their water for saunas and cooking. It's very peaceful there and on this lake as you said. Beware of wolves and bears though! I hope you have a conceal & carry license and bring a firearm with you.
