Sweet set. Good fun and good food. Can you tell me where I can purchase a SNF map and camp regulations? I didn’t realize you had to have hot tent on the ice. Thanks!
Thanks! Map I purchased at Grand Portage State Park visitor center but rules for camping I got from a friend of mine who last season were encountered by two rangers on their hike out and were told they were not supposed to hot tent in the sites during winter but to set up on the ice.
Yes, you can hot tent in the Superior National Forest during the winter, but there are a few key considerations: 1. Camping Regulations: Dispersed camping is generally allowed in the Superior National Forest, but you’ll need to follow specific guidelines. Camp at least 150 feet from any body of water, road, or trail, and be mindful of any specific area restrictions or fire bans, as winter regulations may vary. 2. Fire Safety: With a hot tent, you’ll likely use a wood stove, which should be handled carefully to prevent wildfires. Winter fires are usually allowed, but check for any restrictions, as dry winter conditions can still pose risks. 3. Permits: If you plan to camp in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCAW), you’ll need a permit even in winter, although it’s free from October 1 to April 30. For areas outside the BWCAW, permits may not be required, but it’s a good idea to check with the Superior National Forest for any updates. 4. Weather Preparedness: Winters in Superior National Forest can be extreme, so ensure your hot tent and gear are rated for severe cold. Snow depth, high winds, and subzero temperatures are common. 5. Leave No Trace: Pack out all waste and leave the area as you found it, especially in winter when trash and ashes may get buried in snow.
If the temp were to drop suddenly after you set the tent up on the ice could it get frozen down ? I've heard of people having trouble removing there portable fish houses because they froze to the ice. Of course they were probably set up longer maybe I suppose.
Haha I also had heard of that! We talked about it! We knew the temps were staying at the 35-40 zone so we weren’t worried about it. Definitely was crazy how deep I got though! 🤣🤦🏼♂️
Looked like a great time. Thanks for sharing. 🤠✌️
Looks amazing out there. Wish we had that snow everywhere in the state
Awesome
That trip looked like a great time. Sam's tent is huge.
Sam pitched a huge tent!!!!

Looks like the Grinch Stole Christmas with that sled..haha! Food looks amazing and the scenery is beautiful. Always enjoy your videos.

Looks like a great time. Bonus, you didn't try to kill Sam this time!!!
Only tried to drown him the first night 😂
