I'm not much of a pick player myself, but something about the sound of a jazz bass played with a pick is heaven to my ears. Really love the finish on this bass as well. Nice work!
I just got one of these, the exact model and color you are showing. I also just got a BADASS V bridge, which I'm planning to put.on soon, and restring with RotoSound round wound Stainless steel Swing 66 regulars. it's pretty bulky from what I'm used to, but the C neck makes the beck easier on my fingers. In general, I'm pleased. I have 3 other 5-string active basses, 2 with a mid and 1 without. Probably since the Jazz is new and I'm getting used to it, if I had to play tonight, I'd take my other bass without the mid control and use that, simply because it's very comfortable in my hands, and it also has good growl.
For the record, the nut width on these is 1.875", not 1.75'. Or put in metric, 47.6mm, not 44.4mm. Small difference on paper, huge in the hand. Fender fivers are some of the wider ones out there. Just for a quick reference, a Musicman 5 is around 1.75, this jazz is considerably wider, play them side by side and you'll feel the difference instantly. Ty for the great content!
@@Therealchuckbailey np, hope I didn't come off as mad or anything, haha. Just something I'm acutely aware of right now because I've played every five string bass in town trying decide what's right for me.
The standard wound .125 b string is probably more to blame for the less than stellar response than the instrument ifyou get a taper-wound .135 round wound, or ditch the round wounds for D'addario chromes with the .132 flat wound you may find the b string has adequate relative tension to the other strings
I have the same bass I like it the 12" radius neck is not as comfortable to me as my Sire V3 5 string. The noiseless pickups are starting to grow on me.
You're right about the scale length and the B-string. In-general, I mean. I wasn't necessarily saying that I could obviously have heard the deficiency with "your" bass in particular (although actually I somewhat "could," to be honest;).
Great sounding bass. I have the deluxe active 4 strings (that's what they are now, just active deluxe with anothe rname) and i love it. But 1200 dollars IS overpriced. Try the Yamaha BB735a for a comparison. It costs like 350 dollars less
I have an active Deluxe V Jazz and after new strings, new pups, and a professional set up, the B string sounds blah. I played an active MiA P Bass 5 at GC and the B string was blah. Makes me hesitant about Fender Vs. I love my bass otherwise.
If Fender should grace us with a 6 string one day, then it would be awesone..i play 6 string exclusively, and i would like to have a Fender Jazz...well, maybe one day 🙄
@@deangomes6280 i know 🙂 i tried to find it but had to give up...i even contacted their costum shop and asked if they could make a 6 string, but no luck..i guess all i can do is wait and see if they decide to make one..i think it will happen one day 🤞
I purchased this bass about two months ago in the Cosmic Green color and I’m still trying to love it. I want to love it but I just don’t. It feels GREAT but it sounds hollow to me! I have a little project jazz bass in the same wood combination that I put together and it bites and cuts thru the mix like crazy! I’m hoping that an Audere preamp will help. Don’t know… We’ll see… 🤷🏽♂️
I was hoping this bass would have a little more "Zazz" to it. That being said, I'm a big sucker for a nice Jazz bass and this one is pretty nice.. Just don't like the price. welcome to 2022 I guess..
I tried one of these alongside a Squier affinity jazz v. The low b is equally bad on both, even if the tone, fit and finish on the player plus is better. It's possible to make a low b work in standard scale, and there's a couple of tricks to do it. One of these is a string through body, a strong 6 bolt neck joint, and hex core strings. Fender does none of these things.
Agree. B string on these style of builds just sucks. Doesn't matter what brand. They need to do those things. But if it's any like this traditional build style, it's trash.
@@bassyey harley benton actually makes a decent traditional style 5 string with a decent low B in 34" scale in the mp5eb. Abs it uses all of these tricks, plus zero fret to cheat some extra scale length.
That doesn't compute. Chuck's beloved Bandito bass is a Fender... the Fenders most-frequently featured on the channel (like the seafoam green PJ) belong to Chris even though he's a Gibson man usually... Dave's even got a Squier in his rack... If we have anything against Fender at all, it would be that for the same money, sometimes other brands have offerings that we like more. And we aren't even in agreement internally about that, much of the time.

A pick is a swear word in my house
Oh, absolutely. Underrated lol. You don't see too many dudes picking a jazz.
I have a 1997 USA Standard 4 string Jazz bass. All original still. Its my favorite bass, sounds amazing. It will leave me when i die!
Chuck is AWESOME! :)

Pretty soon the entry price point for a basic player series Fender is going to one thousand dollars. Great video, very honest review!
We’re pretty much already there
The best 34” scale B-string that I’ve personally tried is the Sterling Ray 35. I don’t know how it sounds so good, but it just does.
I think the 6 screw neck attachment makes a huge difference vs. the 4 screws that Fender uses
Great review and nice to see somebody playing with a pick for once most bass reviews i see are only slap so this is a nice change
I would take the green one👍

That’s what was reported for specs online. 🤷🏻♂️ thanks for the correction!
Thank you for the update! Apparently we got some incorrect information somewhere along the way.

Nice, but overpriced for what it is.
It's easier to swallow a QC issue from a Squier because of the cost. Having to mod a bass over $1k isn't great.
YAY , SOUNDS GOOD

Only fender with a good B string is the Jazz Bass Deluxe 24V made in korea/indonesia. Plus amazing build quality.
I played a 4 and it was pretty good. Id like to play a 5. Wonder if a lighter gauge low B adds some clarity? Nice review.
I thought about that also! Like maybe a 118?

I think this one sounds muddy and weak. I miss clearity, and I wonder how the Ultra V is doing compared to the Player Plus?
