For all the black girls if u wanna cut it cut it. It hair I will grow back it’s not the end of the world if u don’t like it throw a wig on. Black women have this weird thing with hair like having long hair equals beauty and it doesn’t. Love you queens ❤️❤️
That’s the reason why I’ve been afraid of cutting it again. But I’m bout to cut it tomorrow myself since I don’t have the resources to get someone to do it for me. Buzz and color here we come!
This lady looks stunning with short hair. Some of us do look prettier with long hair I am one of those people lol. She’s also right about the maintenance of shorter hair cuts!
I’ve received comments from people who wish they saw this video before cutting their hair because they actually regret their big chop. I went from mid-back length hair to nearly bald because I was ready for change. This can be a drastic decision for some people and if someone is not truly ready to cut their they may be unhappy if they cut it prematurely. I pondered my big chop for over a year because I know how long it takes to regrow my hair back to my original length (I cut it years ago when I first went natural and it did not grow back overnight 😂 ). Waiting to grow your hair back feels like forever when miss your long hair. The purpose of this video is to prevent people from making a decision they may regret but you are absolutely right. After the big chop your hair will grow back even better with healthy hair habits💗
I’m like so nervous to do a big chop but I want my hair to grow longer, thicker, and healthy. It’s been so damaged from perms, I’ve been getting perm since I was a little girl and I think it’s time I start over.
I big chopped hoping I’d get thicker hair. My ish is thinner now🥺 I’m 4c and my relaxed days were nice but I started to get damage from lack of knowledge. There’s a lot of good formulas & videos on YT now & I didn’t have that back in the day. I’m thinking about relaxing/texlaxing again😩
Shayda Thomas OMG I could not imagine being in Chicago during the winter, I would literally wear 2 coats plus some layers with no shame LOL I’m in NJ which can get cold but not like the Midwest and I still wear so many layers that it makes my coat tight 😂
So happy I got the courage to cut my hair. I always felt like I’d never do it because I’d look ugly and my head is too big. My hair seemed like it was stuck at one length for years. These past few months ive been wanting to do it and people kept telling me don’t do it but I finally just did it. I was tired , I’m going through so much in my life right now and after holding on to my damaged hair for so long hoping for it to grow I just cut it! I’m so happy and confident I feel beautiful on the inside . If you really want to do it , just do it.
I'm there now. So much has hit me this year. I'm sooooo tired of my hair. It's the longest it's been, but it's been frustrating. The blonde has broke it off and I just want change. How has your journey been so far? It's been one year right? Would love some feed back. Trying to make my decision . 😫
I’m so glad you’re happy with your decision. It takes a lot of courage to go against the opinions of others and prioritize your own feelings. It sounds like this big chop was more than just a haircut - it was a transformation. I'm so happy for you and your newfound confidence! 🤗
GIRL! I know right! And honestly maintenance is what you make it. I’m not coloring or cutting once a week ever in this lifetime. I do it myself every 3 weeks and it’s VERY easy to learn. Number 3 or 4 guard and you can’t mess up. Sometimes I’ll cut it on a Number 1 if I just want it super low and wavy. I also feel it’s JUST as versatile just in a different way. I can color to my heart’s content with twa hair. I’ve rocked red, purple, fuchsia, different shades of blonde.
I see NO CONS with this big chop ! I love it ! It’s only been a little over a month and my hair’s growing back faster than it’s ever grown before. I feel that I’m at the length now where I can even get a protective style so I’m excited. Only thing is I DON’T wear hats so my head gets cold sometimes lol
Crissy Angel We never realize how much our hair protects us from cold-weather until we big chop LOL!!! I’m definitely looking forward to spring. I am so glad you love your big chop!!!!
I did "the big chop" at age 43 - now I'm almost 59, and it's still delighting me! As you alluded, it does depend on lifestyle and personal preference. It's wise of you to advise others to count the cost to their emotions when making such an extreme hair change. For me, it's the way to go, but we're all different and learning more about ourselves constantly. 😇 #NiceVideo
Honestly I cut my hair simply because of stress in life, my hair was very long and thick and my family would praise me simply because my hair was long healthy ( since my mom and her mom and so forth all they knew were perms, they never considered being natural ) but constantly taking care of my hair was such a huge responsibility i just cut it all off. Not once did i ever regret it even after the process. a huge weight went off my shoulders and i was able to explore new looks. But for first timers who do big chops please don't cute it too low! because if you don't like it you can always resort to braids. if your too young to wear wigs or just not interested in them. (:
This is the exact reason I wanted to cut my hair. It would take forever to detangle and style my hair so I eventually depended upon salons to maintain my hair. I usually got a shampoo, blow out and flat iron because it was easy to maintain for 2 weeks before going back to the stylist. I eventually ended up with heat damage so I just cut it but really I was just tired of the fact that I had to rely on other people to maintain my hair so that it didn’t consume my life. I was so over it. When I finally cut my hair my morning routine became so much easier. I haven’t looked back since🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 I know exactly how you feel, you are so right 💯 🎯
I’m only 20 and I did the big chop about 4 times since the age 15 and each year it grew back faster and to my original shoulder length! Yes it can be scary and makes you impatient especially if you’re like me and love braids but it’s super worth it, you could also just trim and wear protective styles but that times time for all the damage hair to be gone and I’d rather it be gone all at once so I just chop away. It’s just hair it’ll grow back that’s how I mentally prepare myself and yes my hair is my crown but my crown doesn’t define ME❤️ much love everyone and thanks for this video!
@@LoriLoveTV You’re welcome 💕. I’m glad I came across your video. I was 👌🏾 close to chopping mine all off. 🥴 My husband would’ve been mad and I would be crying the next morning 🤣🤣🤣😅
@@lovablenae1 OMG I am so glad you found this video helpful!!! It feels like it takes forever for hair to grow back when you’re unhappy with it. I’m so happy you didn’t cut it 🙌🏾
There is absolutely too much stress for women on hair, I just chopped all mine off it’s hair it will grow back and if it doesn’t it doesn’t are you breathing? have love for your family and above all love the lord you’ll be ok there are women and men with cancer and hair won’t grow back it’s hair Alhamduillah we have a head on our shoulders ☮️ And you look fabulous btw
It is true that we are not our hair but it is also true that our hair is a huge part of our image. Nothing we should stress over in the grand scheme of life. With that said we do tend to feel good about ourselves when we look good. Which is why people consider all their options before they make such an extreme decision as cutting their hair off. I hope that my pros and cons videos help them make a decision that they are happy with.
I'm big chopping my hair in 2 weeks. I am so ready for a fresh start and a clean slate. The last time I big chopped I got a medium length tapered cut, but I definitely want to go shorter this time.
I big chopped last week and I am so glad I did! I was not happy with my hair at all. So much damage from wearing wigs and weaves and now I feel free! I have a TWA and it's so easy to style in the mornings, wash and go takes 5 minutes. I get compliments all day long, more than I ever did with my long hair weaves! Super excited for this natural hair journey and to finally be embracing my natural kinks and coils instead of trying to change them!!
I’m just seeing this now, but I’m so happy to hear about your big chop journey! 🙌 It sounds like you’re loving the freedom of your TWA, and I can totally relate-5-minute styling is such a game-changer! Embracing your natural kinks and coils is beautiful, and it’s no surprise you’re getting all those compliments because confidence & natural beauty is everything! I hope you’re still loving your natural hair a year later! 💜✨
Reading the comments made me that much more confident. When I saw this title I was worried. Thank you queens in the comments. I’m about to do the big chop today and I’m so nervous and that’s why I’m here but reading the comments made me more excited. Hair is hair and it will grow back. We know the haircut is just that and there is no coming back from it. My thing is if I have an issue I can always throw on a wig. I wear wigs now with long hair so I’m good. No need of me continuing the video because I read the first 5 comments and I will be gorgeous no matter what.
Great video! I’ve been completely natural for almost five years...My last relaxer was in 2014 and I big-chopped in 2016 after a 14 month transition period. One reason for such a long, frustrating transition period was that fear of feeling naked. Your hair looks really good short. Having a pretty face is indeed a gift. Tfs❤️
karen horton Thank you! I felt the same way when I transitioned from relaxed to natural years ago. After a year I HAD to cut it. It was SO hard working with two extremely different textures. I wish I big chopped the 1st time!!! NEVER again LOL
I had no plan to big chop my hair when it was already decided. For the first couple of weeks I felt bare without my hair. This video gave me the motivation to truly get back on top of taking care of my hair. Whether your hair is long, short, curly, wavy, know that you are worth it. Stay positive. 💜💜
Thank you so much for sharing this! 💜 I completely understand that ‘bare’ feeling after the big chop-it’s such a big change, but also a fresh start. I’m so glad this video gave you the motivation to care for your hair again. You’re absolutely right-whether it’s long, short, curly, or wavy, our hair is just one part of our journey, but we are always worth it. Stay positive and keep shining! 💜✨
I found it empowering when I stepped outside my comfort zone and did it. It's been a year and six months and I definitely don't regret it. I had hair loss in my crown and did not realize it would not be growing back as fast until it all started growing back and none was in my crown. I freaked out, I started using rogaine foam and I tried to be as patient as possible. And that is when I started rocking head scarves. And learning how to tie them different ways and I have one for every outfit. Now I have five to six inches all over but the crown is still shorter and I'm doing protective hairstyles and it's still a process, it's still rogaine.... it Will b forever now, but I treat it like brushing my teeth, I need toothpaste forever. That part. We are black women. We brave with bounce back. Ladeez, if you are thinning a shave may save the rest. i did not Know how bad my damage was until I shaved it. Facts!
I love my natural hair!! I recently cut it off very short and I did it myself. I'm actually glad that I did! I've been having issues with relaxers taking my hair out. So I'm so glad that that's over!!☺😊. Thanks so much for this inspiring and thoughtful video.
You’re welcome. I never realized how damaging relaxers can be to our hair until I transitioned to my natural hair. There is an extreme difference between my relaxed hair and my natural hair. My natural hair is so much fuller in comparison to how thin my relaxed hair was. Our natural hair is definitely much healthier than relaxed hair. I am so glad you love your natural hair and shout out to you for cutting it yourself...That takes a lot of courage! Much respect❤️
Ive been wanting to do a big chop for almost 3 years now but my mom won’t let me cut my hair. Imma freshmen in high school and I’m ready for a change, my hair isn’t healthy right now due to perms it hadn’t be growing. What should I do?
Ultimately, you know your mom best which may help you understand why she doesn’t want you to cut your hair. I’m sure that she is coming from a place of love and looking out for your best interest. In my experience, when we really want some thing we tend to focus on it to the extent that we overestimate the importance of what it is. Although I don’t regret big chopping my hair, sometimes I do miss it long. Once you turn 18 you will have the rest of your life to cut your hair so don’t get discouraged if you can’t cut it now. In the meantime, communicate with your mom respectfully and maybe together you can come up with a solution that’s best for the health of your hair...Perhaps you can start with asking to trim the damaged ends so that you can improve the overall health of your hair. Then experiment with different natural styles with the length you have so you can enjoy switching up your look.
Yeah, you’re 100% right she just has my best interest in mind, it’s hard to communicate what I want might not be what she wants for me. But I really appreciate the reply. And u look gorgeous with your hair btw😩❤️
Eveie Love Awww thanks for the compliment!!! Trust me you’ll be 18 making your own decisions in no time; it’s kinda overrated LOL so appreciate this time with your mom. Moms do the best they can as Moms.💕
I just did my 4th big chop & this time I wanna enjoy it and keep it short instead of trying to grow it back,. The biggest con for me was learning to style it, but now I always feel put together with my one style
I agree. After my big chop, I kept my hair short for 5 years and loved it. The coiled TWA worked best for me and I definitely always looked and felt put together. I’m so glad you have a style that works for you. That is key! I hope you continue to enjoy your journey.
O I cut my hair this short a week ago dreading what I would look like. Everyone everywhere I go compliments my haircut. No regrets this way. I had to come back to let u know because seeing how beautiful u looked inspired me. Thanks for sharing.
Aww thank you for being so sweet💕. I am always so happy to find out that someone else loves their big chop and has no regrets, that is so awesome 🙌🏾😊 Now look at you inspiring others too... I am sure someone of the people who compliment your hair are low key considering the big chop now LOL
I just turned 18 and I Finally have the freedom to cut my hair. I’m very excited and happy I feel like I am to depend on my hair. Growing up in this generation you hair, body and clothes define who you are and I don’t want the same for me. I want to be different even if I’m my only support system.
Girl I’m only 17 and I’m natural but my hair is thin and damaged in some places , every time my mom sees my natural hair she trips out and ask if I cut it or it had been cut like it’s her hair and it’s mine ! I’m so fed up with my hair I want to cut it but she won’t support maybe before I’ll get some braids and secretly do it
I want to cut my hair cause I've been depressed for the last few months and I feel like doing so will make me feel fresh and new, but this video has challenged me think about it deeper. I'm still attached to my afro and I know I'll definitely do a big chop before the year ends, but I think I need more time to get my mental and emotional self more collected before I make such a huge decision. Thanks for this
I’m really glad this video gave you some perspective, and I completely understand where you’re coming from. A big chop can feel like a fresh start, but it’s also a big emotional step-especially when you’re attached to your afro. Taking the time to care for your mental and emotional well-being first is the most important thing. When you’re ready, you’ll know, and I hope it brings you that fresh, renewed feeling you’re looking for. Sending you love and strength on your journey. You’ve got this! ❤︎
Black women look very beautiful with short hair. The short hair really enhances their beautiful bone structure, especially their exquisite high cheekbones that most black people naturally have. I wish my short hair would look as good as the short hair I see on black women. This girl in the video is very beautiful and very chic with her short hair. I would love to have short hair like hers. Gorgeous!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words! 💜 Short hair really does have a way of highlighting natural beauty, and it's all about finding a style that makes you feel confident and beautiful. I'm sure you have your own unique beauty that would shine through with any hairstyle! Rock it with confidence, and you’ll look just as beautiful and chic as you imagine! ✨
This is a great video. I've been depressed and obsessed with my overly processed hair for a week, after attempting to do a roller set today I threw the rollers and set my appt for Saturday for my 2nd big chop. My hair is past bra length and it was so healthy until my hair lady bleached it two months in a row earlier this year. I had keratin for 2 years and life was so easy until it no longer wasn't. I'm not good with two textures and my hair doesn't define me! So a new chapter starts soon and I'm already smiling 😃.
I big chopped my mid back length hair hair for a similar reason. Mine was heat damaged. You’re right, your hair doesn’t define you!!!! I hope you like your big chop.😊
@@LoriLoveTV hey Lori yes I love my hair again,I feel so free and back to the real me. It's nothing like embracing our hair and owning the beauty & confidence that comes with it. I hope you're loving your hair too, ty for the chat lady.
@@jessiwave8 You’re so welcome!!! I agree...Our hair is so beautiful and we have every reason to be confident in all of who we are. I’m still loving my big chop. I so glad you love your hair again 🙌🏾💕😊
I'm 15 my hair is alright it's not completely healthy tho, I have really damaged edges I've been trying to grow them for literally 2 years no difference. this year is when I got a chance to really play with my hair and give it the love it deserves because I'm always home doing nothing I'm so grateful to this year but i think it's time i chop it off I'm telling you my edges are literally BALD I'm going to grow my hair and take the steps that are needed. Wish me luck
Hey girl, I was wondering if you wear a silk cap/wrap at night ? And also maybe test different oils out ( if you haven’t already). I kept putting coconut oil and olive oil in my hair cus everyone said it would work wonders. Turns out I’m really sensitive to those oils and they give me breakage. This hair thing is a real journey, wishing you the best !
Recently cut my hair and instantly regretted it😞I know it’s hair and it’ll grow back but just from a girl who didn’t even know what to do with my long hair I’m really lost now smh 🤦🏽♀️ I wish I had found this video before I cut it. We’ll see how the remainder of the year goes 🙏🏽
OMG I am so sorry to hear this. Coming from someone who has struggled with self image, I can totally relate. Sending you virtual hugs!!! You are not alone and you can and will get through this. You hair is growing back right now as we speak. ♥️ It is true that we are not our hair but it is also true that our hair is a huge part of our image. I know how it feels when I’m not happy with the way I look, I tend to be self conscious and have to encourage myself. I eventually try to find humor in the situation to not take myself so seriously, lol. I just prefer to live happy and I have so much to be grateful for that I don’t want my insecurities to ruin my day. With that said, I hope by now your hair has grown to a point where you are comfortable with it and you have found a style that works for you. What helps the most during my big chop journey is 1st, mindset: reminding myself that this is me and I am enough. Having a positive mindset towards myself helps me embrace my natural hair. 2nd, sticking with the style that works best for my hair and lifestyle. Wash and go’s define my natural curl pattern and is the most low maintenance routine that I can do on my own. If all else fails, there is always wigs, lol. I rocked a wig for about 9 months after I failed at trying to trim my own hair (this happened during my 1st natural hair journey). I took my wig off as soon as I got home from work every day. I washed and cornrowed every two weeks. I eventually went to the salon and got my hair trimmed evenly. Then I cornrowed my hair with extensions for a few months until it reached shoulder length. That worked for me at that time. Now I just do wash and go as I’m growing my hair back. I prefer low maintenance styles now. Remember to stick with what works for you. Your hair is constantly growing which means your hair will be growing with you through this journey and at some point you will be back at the length you are most happy with. 🤗
I wanna cut off my hair even tho it's already natural and this video really is helpful. I feel like hair doesn't define who I am as a girl. Thanks you for the video. God bless you
❤️❤️ Thank you soooo very much for this information. I’m in that frame of mind where I want to cut/trim my hair. I’ve been naturally for almost 3 years. My hair color is salt and pepper. When it was long, it showed my “Cruella Deville” (the white streak in her hair) from the movie 101 Dalmatians. It’s still there. I just have more gray mixed in. I have a birthday party to go to in December and I just want a new look. Sometimes I feel like I look old with my hair the way it is. I feel like I need a change for now. Thank you again for your encouragement and support to us that is thinking about THE BIG CHOP!!!❤️❤️
You're so welcome! 🤗 I completely understand the desire for a fresh look, and your salt-and-pepper hair with that ‘Cruella DeVille’ streak sounds so unique-I can only imagine how stunning it is! I hope you found a style that made you feel confident and beautiful. You deserve to feel your absolute best! ❤️✨
I had terrible heat damaged hair and I grew my hair out without having to chop my hair off I just trimmed my damaged hair before I get a sew in and that is how I are my hair out to be hugeeee and full.
@@janay3096 Yes, keep trimming time after time and it doesn't have to be all in one day. I had to fake it till I make it with the heat damage and just did my trims occasionally when it was out of a protective style and when it was time for braids or sew in I trim. The hair will always grow back especially when the hair has some good moisture. Growth starts from the roots and will eventually stretch itself out. Once you trim you'll be able to see the progress.
miriam thomas I agree with smh... You can slowly transition by trimming the damaged ends periodically. It’s a great way to maintain your length as you grow out your healthy hair 😊
Lori Love my scalp in the front seems to be damaged, it’s not growing in as soft as defined as the rest of my head after big chop and the thinning around the edge lines
Thank you for being so transparent! I didn’t take any of this into consideration for my first big chop; now I’m considering doing it again but I think I’m ready now!
You're so welcome! I'm happy to hear this video resonated with you. It's great that you took the time to consider everything before making a decision. It sounds like you felt more confident and prepared for a 2nd big chop. I hope you are enjoying your journey-it’s all about doing what feels right for YOU. Wishing you all the best!
Already big chop 3rd time now. First time to a twa. second time bald.third time, back to a twa(now). I love it all this time. There are many limitations tho. Stuck to a fro state for one. Waiting 6 months for it to grow out. Some styles unravel really easy. I can only wear twist outs right now. It's all good tho. Easy life, happy me.
I just cut my hair on Saturday, I just less product ,less wash time but I’m still getting used to the fact that I do not have hair anymore. I’ll just keep dying it help me not feel boring in a way. I also used it as a test of confidence to get comfortable with my body and my life in general it’s like I needed to build myself and grow and I noticed doing this really helped me. So cut it if you to💕💕
my mom stopped doing my hair in 4th grade so I was ultimately left to do it myself, I had to learn to braid but it became a tedious task to do every morning along with getting dressed and other things. I started asking to straighten my hair and my mom took me to a salon, my hair sometimes got messed up if my bonnet fell off while I was sleeping so I ended up straight ironing my hair every morning. I've cut my hair multiple times because I never really cared how my hair looked. My hair is now damaged from the straightening and i'm SUPER excited to cut it again this summer. I feel like people are scared to cut their hair because short may not be deemed "pretty" but I think its absolutely beautiful and once you cut it, you'll realize that you feel better with healthy hair.
Ariii Baeee how did you know it was time? I really want to do this. I am a school teacher, since we won’t be going back face to face right now, I figured now is the time but I’m still a tad bit unsure
Karen Holmes Okay well my hair was really badly heat damaged and I transitioned for almost two years. I was just so tired of having two different textures. I just cut it off and I was contemplating doing it for a while. I also cut a little piece of my hair last year and it got so long so I realized that if I had cut all my hair it would be that length by next year. I came to a realization and that’s how I knew it was time!!
I cut my hair short at 25. I continued wearing it short for the better part of ten years. I found a few of ways to style it. I loved my short hair and learned to cut and maintain it myself. I was able to freely experiment with color since damage wasn’t much of an issue because I was cutting my hair so frequently. Being a working mom at the time, short hair really worked for me. Plus, I went swimming on a regular basis. Short hair really brings out your features and accentuates the length of your neck. It’s something I feel women shouldn’t be afraid of. ❤
I love this comment so much and totally agree with you! I think women should definitely embrace short hair instead of fearing it. Plus, it makes life easier since it’s such low maintenance. Also, thank you for the compliment. Wishing you all the best ♥️
@: And . . . short hair is VERY feminine. Eurocentric beauty ideals have brainwashed us into thinking it isn’t. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Had a break down 2 weeks ago, took me a really long time to grow it this long ( almost bra strap) I don’t have the time for it anymore and it hurts, feels like I’m giving up on my hair, it breaks my heart.
Seyikunmi Adedeji I used to feel the same way when I was contemplating big chopping my hair. I had invested so much time in maintaining my hair and I felt like long hair was a part of my identity. However, my long hair in its natural state was extremely time consuming for me to properly manage my hair on my own and I didn’t want to continue straightening my hair as it was I starting to loosen my curl pattern and my hair was looking thinner. I finally got to a point where I just couldn’t spend my time maintaining my hair or stressing over another visit to the salon. When I big chopped I was at peace. I knew that I was not giving up on my hair but instead I had chose to just go with the flow of my life. I can always wear a wig if I miss my wearing my hair Long and I could stop cutting it so it can grow back at any time. For now my short, natural hair just works best for me and my lifestyle. I say all of that to say, you are not alone and I hope you do what gives you peace.❤️
I wanna big chop but I have kinky hair in the back and curly in the front and I think imma look bad so imma go to the salon and get it done so I don't feel like it's my fault lmao. I'm just in 6th grade and I'm low key nervous (more like highkey)
Juice box Lmao at “imma go to the salon and get it done so I don’t feel like it’s my fault.“ 😂 You can do a tapered style with your hair longer in the front and shorter in the back to complement your curl pattern or start with a medium chop until you feel comfortable with the big chop... I usually find a picture of a style I like that I believe will work with my curl pattern... Then the trial and error begins until I find what works for me. LOL Btw, I’m proud of you for even considering such a bold move in the 6th grade. I wish I was as brave as you in the 6th grade. I was clowned everyday from grades 6-10. It wasn’t until I stopped caring about the opinions of others and started doing me that I started to shine; my only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. People will always have an opinion so now is the best time to get in the habit of not caring. Whatever you decide, all that matters is that you are confident in your decision. Confidence looks beautiful on everybody!!!
And if you are cutting your own hair, keep a mirror handy and make sure you have enough light. And please use guards! Use a longer guard than you think you need at first, then go down to shorter guards until you find a cutting length you are comfortable with.
I big chopped in 2017 and I was glad I did. I always wanted to cut all my hair off and when I did, I had no regrets. You look really nice with your hair cut.
Lori Love you’re welcome. Sms, I remember how easy it was with short hair. Enjoy it and rock it with your beautiful self. I hope that you and your family will continue to stay safe.
I didn’t even like my hair. My hair & I were never on the same line. Now I just miss HAVING my hair, running my hands trough it & stuff. Just gotta be patient. When I’m at my original length again, I’ll know what it needs & how to take care of it
Aw, I feel you on that. It's tough when you're not vibing with your hair, and then you miss the familiarity. But it sounds like you have a great attitude! I hope you're loving your natural hair now and are even more in tune with what it needs. Sending positive vibes for a healthy and happy hair journey! ✨
I’ve big chopped my hair so many times. Bald to even low cut. It’s just hair. It’ll grow back. And I’ll tell you one thing! Once you go bald you’ll become more confident and not hiding your face behind your hair. Or realizing your hair should not Define you!
I think you look amazing with your Big chop I'm also wearing the short look aswell Thanks for sharing the pro's and con's with us much love and Blessings to you ❤️❤️❤️❤️💯
I hate when ppl try to downplay other people’s feelings. I cut my hair and honestly I regret it and wish I watched this video first. I also felt like well it’s hair it will grow back and it will grow back healthier and I know that I look very nice with short hair however I just regret the choice that’s it.
Agreed. Our hair is a part of us and we tend to feel good about ourselves when we look good. It is challenging going through the process of growing your hair back when you wish it would just grow back already. The great thing is our hair is constantly growing. Hopefully, by now you’ve reached your hair goals.
I learned this the hard way 😂 I had a lot of failed hairstyles and hair colors before I found my favorite style and color. The cool thing about the big chop is that I just cut my hair all off and start it over every time I didn’t like the style or color😊
Everyone’s hair grows at a different pace and sometimes we don’t notice our progress due to the shrinkage of our natural coils. Plus we see ourselves every day so it can be difficult to see change. The only time I ever noticed new growth was when I trimmed my hair but then it would eventually grow back to the same length and seemed to remain the same length. As long as you are maintaining your length and not losing your hair it sound like your hair is fine.🤍
I’m so glad you love your short cut!!! I have about 4.5 inches of new growth new growth now and am considering cutting it again but I love my TWA too😃. Much love and blessings to you on your hair journey as well 💖🌹
Milla Maya OMG I feel the same way every time I look at old pictures of myself with my hair longer😭. Oh but when wash day comes I’m like 🙌🏾 ... Your hair will grow in quick though. I cut mine every month to keep it short 😏
I'm so excited to cut my hair I just want an extreme new look and want to experiment and also find a style that works, if it doesn't work it's no big deal to be I'm just excited for the experience and journey! 😊😆🎉💜✨
ARMY Girl Nia Yas!!!! I felt the same way when I big chopped. I had my share of styles and colors I and love and styles and colors I hate. Best part about it is the fact that it grows back every month and I can start all over with a new style and/or color. I’m excited for you!!! Here’s to the journey 🙌🏾😊💜 ✨🎊
It's totally up to the Individual, TOTALLY!!! I've worn my natural long but I prefer it short. Nothing to do with low maintenance, short is just me now. I love short on me. However, I love the look of all the sista's, Short, Med, Long. It doesn't matter, it's all beautiful😍 #Natural #iRockMeMyWay #YouRockYouYourWay #WeRockUsOurWay❤💯
Perhaps you can start with some pictures of other ladies with a similar face shape as yours who have the hairstyle you want. Get some inspo from IG & pinterest. If you can't find anything, be the 1st to do what hasn't been done and you'll find people look at you for inspo! I'm sure a short cut would look beautiful on you :-)
it's me corrine Google Jill Scott’s big chop. She is still gorgeous!!!! Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes. If you can’t find any pictures of other women, perhaps you should be the 1st!!! We can be our own worst critic but I’m sure you’ll be fine. Maybe you can try a short wig to see if you’ll like how short hair looks on you before you actually cut your hair. 🤗
i just big chop and umm... i cried an hour later bc i thought i looked funny. no one else seems to like it but me but, i’m getting so much more comfortable with it. wish i would’ve seen this beforehand tho lmaoo
We can't expect to look exactly the same when we cut our hair because when we cut our hair it is a completely different look. All that matter's is that you like your hair. Some body will have something to say regardless of what you do. If we concern ourselves w/the opinions of people, we'll never be free. Just being yourself is enough so never stop being you; let the world adjust. 💛💛💛
Great, great video and the honesty is real. I big chop my hair two times in my life because I needed a change. This time I wanted to go natural. I’m in the fall season of my life (67) and I was tired of using flat irons or curling irons. During the pandemic I cut 1-2 inches and finally when the salon opened ...she did the big chop. I suggest you gradually cut your hair to see how you feel about it being short. My hair was shoulder length and when I was younger it was down my back. First decide on the reason and then the method and how to maintain it or if you are going to let it grow. My hair has grown a lot in 3 months and I plan on letting it grow a little longer. Curleys and natural beauties it’s hard to embrace your hair and not be controlled by what Society says is an acceptable look for us. There are some many products (black owned) to choose a style/look that best represents you. I wish they were available when I was younger. Enjoy your crown 👑 🙏🏾🙅🏾
It took me 3 times before i loved my twa.. Plus i was going through life changes. I didnt hv anything else to loose but my hair..so i kept going shorter and shorter. Once i found the products that my hair liked i went for color.. Now its fall and im wanting to relax but i think i can just do a crochet style and hang tough til spring. It grows fast short. In short..one may love the chop at first cut or 4th cut. Depends on where u are in ur journey..but be u!
That is so true!!! Our journeys are unique and what matters most is that we be ourselves through it all because ultimately the only thing that truly changes is our hair. What is most important is our confidence and love for self-the big chop definitely reminds us of that.
I totally agree. I did a big cut 20 yrs ago and that's when I was getting perms. It was sexy, oh yes but gotta go to barber to get the fly shape up, keep eyes done and seems like I was getting more touch ups. Hair was growing like crazy. I luv short sexy cuts, they accent your face but it does take quite a bit of maintenance. I envy those sisters who can keep it together.
I have always had short hair with relaxed and natural hair. I have been natural for five years. I love my hair short. I had braids, and my hair was long. I work in child care and my short hair is good for me and I love going to the salon
Thank you so much for this video because I dyed the ends of my hair and I don’t like how it made my curls feel so I’m gonna ask my parents if I can do a big chop and btw I love you hair 🥰
Star Butterfly You can gradually trim the color off your ends as an alternative to the big chop. Best wishes on whatever you decide. Thank you for sharing 💛
Lori Love I don’t think I look so good but the health of my hair what matters lol I just can’t get my curls right and I’m thinking about going shorter cause I basically have a pixie cut and I’m thinking about cutting the rest off
Bambi Gold Is there a stylist you trust that can help tweak the style or the cut before you cut the rest off? And you’re right, healthy hair is definitely most important. I’ve had a few bad cuts & colors that caused me to cut it all off for a fresh start. Best part part is your hair will continue grow back! You WILL find what works for you 🤗
I was used to short barber cuts, then grew my afro out for two years. I miss my head, and it is time to let this hair go. Have not been feeling like myself with the long hair✌🏾
Girl your cut looks amazing😍I really wanna cut my hair because it doesn’t grow and is uneven, but as it hasn’t been growing im scared if I cut it, it will take longgg to grow💀
Maryam Diarra Thank you 💕 Everyone’s hair grows at a different pace. If you’re concerned about it taking too long for your hair to grow back if you big chop, perhaps you can trim it so it’s even. 🤗

“Once it’s gone, it’s gone..”
A better way to phrase that is “once it’s gone.. it’ll grow back even better.”

Liyah _ Just trim gradually if you are too. This will allow you to maintain your length and transition to a full head of healthy hair over time🤗
I big chopped hoping I’d get thicker hair. My ish is thinner now🥺 I’m 4c and my relaxed days were nice but I started to get damage from lack of knowledge. There’s a lot of good formulas & videos on YT now & I didn’t have that back in the day. I’m thinking about relaxing/texlaxing again😩

Lori Love Lol right exactly! yes as am I ! My favorite season & thank you so much 😊
Crissy Angel You’re welcome 😊
I did "the big chop" at age 43 - now I'm almost 59, and it's still delighting me! As you alluded, it does depend on lifestyle and personal preference. It's wise of you to advise others to count the cost to their emotions when making such an extreme hair change. For me, it's the way to go, but we're all different and learning more about ourselves constantly. 😇 #NiceVideo
When you have a face like hers anything will look good😂
LOL Thanks that’s really sweet of you to say 💕
I haven’t looked back since🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 I know exactly how you feel, you are so right 💯 🎯
You look like the beautiful Jada Pinkett she worn her hair like this back in the 90s❤❤❤
FeeFee 86 I love Jada Pinkett!!! Thank you 🥰💕
I definitely thought it was Jada in the thumbnail.
Yes! It’s definitely giving me that vibe. I love it 💙
I’m only 20 and I did the big chop about 4 times since the age 15 and each year it grew back faster and to my original shoulder length!
We are definitely more than our hair! Love this comment and thanks for sharing ♥

Thank you for sharing, Latasha ♥ How do you like your big chop?

I’m really glad this video gave you some perspective, and I completely understand where you’re coming from. This is a great video. OMG I am so sorry to hear this. Coming from someone who has struggled with self image, I can totally relate. Sending you virtual hugs!!! You are not alone and you can and will get through this. You hair is growing back right now as we speak. ♥️
It is true that we are not our hair but it is also true that our hair is a huge part of our image.
God bless you
I am so happy you found this video helpful...You are so right!!! You define You 💕
@@LoriLoveTV thanks for the reply
Lorraine Beza You’re welcome 😊
I’ve been watching everyone’s big chop videos since I posted mine, and I’m loving it girl ❤️
QueenBeluchi Yas big chop hair is it for me!!!!
I did the big chop a few weeks ago and I'm loving it the products and all. My stylist did her thing.
That is so awesome!!!
I had terrible heat damaged hair and I grew my hair out without having to chop my hair off I just trimmed my damaged hair before I get a sew in and that is how I are my hair out to be hugeeee and full.
smh I did that when I I initially went natural. It’s a great way to get back to full healthy hair while maintaining your length 😊
So you can just fix heat damage by getting a trim?
Wishing you all the best!
just big chopped a few days ago and it was so freeing it felt great
EB0YUTA 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Today is the day of my big chop and I’m committed to getting it done.
That's amazing! I hope your big chop went exactly as you hoped it would. Wishing you all the best on your natural hair journey! ✨
It looks good on you, but I know it takes getting adjusting too.
nancy breaux Thank youuuu 😊 The longer it gets, the harder it is to keep the style for at least 2 to 3 days so I stay on top of my trims.
Your gorgeous my hair all the way down my back I love big chop cuts I look young.im 60 I wear a scarf every day or bun
Thank you. Love that!
Moonlight 201932 Those are some great cons worth mentioning!!! Glad to hear that you’re happy!!! It’s definitely easier for me too.
Cutting my hair was the best decision of my life. I’m absolutely in love with it
Yas!!! I feel the same way. I’m so glad you love your hair 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
So cut it if you to💕💕
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾❤️❤️❤️🤗🤗🤗
my mom stopped doing my hair in 4th grade so I was ultimately left to do it myself, I had to learn to braid but it became a tedious task to do every morning along with getting dressed and other things.
✨💖✨🙌🏾💖
I big chopped my hair yesterday and I absolutely love my hair I cut about 16 inches off and I’ve never felt so better about anything!!
Ariii Baeee how did you know it was time? I really want to do this. I am a school teacher, since we won’t be going back face to face right now, I figured now is the time but I’m still a tad bit unsure
That is awesome! The big chop is just that liberating 🙌🙌🙌
Ariii Baeee thank you for responding!!! I am going to go thru with it
Karen Holmes of course and I just know your hair is gonna grow really fast 🥳
I just kept cutting it off until I was ready to grow it out 🥴
Chel Bels I did the same thing when I was transitioning from relaxer to natural. It’s a great way to maintain your length 😏
LOL
Btw, I’m proud of you for even considering such a bold move in the 6th grade. Confidence looks beautiful on everybody!!!
loveliess You are so right, it doesn’t matter what others think!!! Keep shining!!!
Yeah I big jones mine and I have 3b on the top and 3c on the back and the sides and it looks like a tapered cut lol
And if you are cutting your own hair, keep a mirror handy and make sure you have enough light. And please use guards! Use a longer guard than you think you need at first, then go down to shorter guards until you find a cutting length you are comfortable with.
Preach 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
i just cut my hair and now it’s uneven😂
I did that once😂. I just started wearing wigs until it grew back. Give it a few months and you’ll be good.
I’m starting a new journey next year 🔥🙏🏽 healthy progress only
Happy New Year!!!! I hope you enjoy the journey 💗
I understand missing long hair but mama you are KILLIN this look!! 💕💕
Thank you so much 😊💕💕
I big chopped in 2017 and I was glad I did. I always wanted to cut all my hair off and when I did, I had no regrets. You look really nice with your hair cut.
Tashron Tyson Thank you!!! I feel the same way, no regrets... It makes my life so much easier 💕
Lori Love you’re welcome. Sms, I remember how easy it was with short hair. Enjoy it and rock it with your beautiful self. I hope that you and your family will continue to stay safe.
You are gorgeous and the short cut works perfectly for you.
Thank you so much 💛
I didn’t even like my hair.
🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾❤️❤️❤️
I think you look amazing with your Big chop I'm also wearing the short look aswell Thanks for sharing the pro's and con's with us much love and Blessings to you ❤️❤️❤️❤️💯
Thank you so much, Annette!! It was a great pleasure making these videos. Much love and Blessings to you as well ❤️❤️❤️
I hate when ppl try to downplay other people’s feelings.
Just cut my hair yesterday
And I feel so free
@@blessinggodson1464 I’m happy to hear that! Took me 5 years before I decided to grow my hair back! It’s so easy to maintain🙌🏽
I needed this video!!! Very well spoken girl!!! Your cut looks so beautiful btw!!
Simply Shanta Thank you so much for the compliments! Thanks for letting me know that this video was helpful; it means a lot to me 💕
@@LoriLoveTV you are welcome girl!!
Fresh hair cut is Freeing. I will never change
So true! I grew my hair out after a year, but then I cut it again because I missed this length. So liberating!
I needed this😂 I'm just doing a mini big chop ,but now I'm ready after considering everything you spoke about❤
looley_lee Williams I glad you found this video helpful. 😊❤️
I just cut my hair today, and I feel like a new born baby 😂😂 can’t wait for the growth.
lol I hope you are enjoying your hair cut. I'm sure you're noticing new growth by now, it seems to grow in fast when you first cut it.
@ yes its definitely growing.
That’s awesome!!!
Love it, just cut my hair again since I'm staying in.
Christina Fajimolu 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I like what you said about styles like styles aren’t going to look exactly the same bc we have different types of hair etc…
I learned this the hard way 😂 I had a lot of failed hairstyles and hair colors before I found my favorite style and color. The cool thing about the big chop is that I just cut my hair all off and start it over every time I didn’t like the style or color😊
My hair hasn’t grown in 4 years... I think it’s time to just start over 🥴 I had very long hair as a kid so idk whats the problem
I'm getting ready to chop my locs ! Great food for thought. Thanks
You are so welcome!!! I hope you like your big chop 🤗
thanks for getting straight to the point 💕
You’re welcome💕
Those slick backs are very pretty on short hair.
Yes the slick back is one of favorite looks
You look FAB. YOU ARE PULLING IT OFF JUST FINE.
authentica63 Thank youuuu 💕
Thanks so much for sharing your video I'm wearing the short look and loving it. enjoy ur new short cut Journey much love and Blessings to you
I’m so glad you love your short cut!!! I have about 4.5 inches of new growth new growth now and am considering cutting it again but I love my TWA too😃. Much love and blessings to you on your hair journey as well 💖🌹
Girl I miss my hair so much 😭 I want some knotless braids so bad ughhh
Milla Maya OMG I feel the same way every time I look at old pictures of myself with my hair longer😭. Oh but when wash day comes I’m like 🙌🏾 ... Your hair will grow in quick though. I cut mine every month to keep it short 😏
Great Video of pro and cons of the Big Chop.......these are all good things to consider before the big chop........Thanks!
Thank you so much, Darlene!
Facts 🎯🙌🏾❤️
Girl, please!!! You look AMAZING. You're gorgeous. 😍Great advice though. Very helpful.😉
I’m so glad to hear that you found this video helpful. Thank you so much for the compliments😊
Girl you're gorgeous and the style looks super dope on you!
Thank you so much!!!
I'm dying to cut my hair because I'm so over the maintenance but I have a chunky face and dont know what shape to get
Perhaps you can start with some pictures of other ladies with a similar face shape as yours who have the hairstyle you want. Get some inspo from IG & pinterest. If you can't find anything, be the 1st to do what hasn't been done and you'll find people look at you for inspo! I'm sure a short cut would look beautiful on you :-)
Yeah i know its really hard to find pictures of plus size women with short natural hair
it's me corrine Google Jill Scott’s big chop. 🤗
Appreciate the heads up! The cons made me change my mind
The big chop is not for everyone. So glad this video helped change your mind. 🙌🏾
i just big chop and umm... i cried an hour later bc i thought i looked funny. no one else seems to like it but me but, i’m getting so much more comfortable with it. wish i would’ve seen this beforehand tho lmaoo
Enjoy your crown 👑
🙏🏾🙅🏾
Thank you!!! I agree 100% Thank you so much for sharing 💛
Antoinetta Saunders True! The maintenance is especially no joke in this quarantine!!! My hair is almost 3inchs now. I’ma have to cut it myself LOL
I have always had short hair with relaxed and natural hair. I have been natural for five years. I love my hair short. I had braids, and my hair was long. I work in child care and my short hair is good for me and I love going to the salon
That is awesome! TFS Julie ♥
I'm a new subscriber from Maryland amazing video god bless you and stay blessed always 🎉
Thank you so much Lateasha! Peace and blessings to you❤️
I’m thinking about cutting my hair off. I’m back lol I did it but I don’t like the style of my hair cut so I might get more cut off 😬😂
Yas!!! I hope you love whatever you decide!!!! :-)
Lori Love I don’t think I look so good but the health of my hair what matters lol I just can’t get my curls right and I’m thinking about going shorter cause I basically have a pixie cut and I’m thinking about cutting the rest off
Bambi Gold Oh snap!!!! I’m so sorry to hear you don’t like the style.
Agreed! I just cut my hair again. Just makes life so much easier.
I think you look really great!
Joan Berry Thank you!!!! Easiest hairstyle I’ve ever had 😊
I do not mean this bad at all but I’m so jealous of people with textured hair because they can pull off a shaved head. You’re glowing darling!
I love textured hair too!!!! Thank you so much ❤️
Girl your cut looks amazing😍I really wanna cut my hair because it doesn’t grow and is uneven, but as it hasn’t been growing im scared if I cut it, it will take longgg to grow💀
Maryam Diarra Thank you 💕 Everyone’s hair grows at a different pace. If you’re concerned about it taking too long for your hair to grow back if you big chop, perhaps you can trim it so it’s even. 🤗
