Making workshop crane

  • I often have a problem with moving heavy things, that's why I decided to build a workshop crane.
The crane is made of thick profiles, so the whole structure should withstand heavy loads.

It's so cool when a maker uses an already cool build to help build another awesome item, great video.

I have a chinese crane and when I wanted to lift a small milling machine from a pallet with it, it came out the legs of the crane could'nt run under the pallet (too much width) , so I had to cut the legs, give'em a new angle, and reinforce'em. Afterwards it worked like a charm. Conclusion : think to what you want to handle (material on pallets ?) with your crane to give it the right dimensions.

If you just want to get some work done then it can be quite cost effective to buy one for $200 instead of spending several nights building it. But I'm not one of those people.. My shop is mainly used for building tools to be able to build other tools.

Not trying to take anything away from your build tho cause u truly did an awesome job...

This is an awesome build, great video with awesome content, I’m subscribing. Right now! Great job. 3 dislikes at this point?! I understand anyone can like or dislike a video, but considering any dislike is for nothing, because it’d be too late, the project is done and over with, and accomplished, no matter how the whole process went, which means: dislike=petty. Because there is more than one way to skin a cat, not just your way. He built a homemade engine hoist that is far better than the cheap Chinese bargain brand. What else do you need his blood to paint it?!

It would be fully designed and certified, with factors of safety built in.
I’m always sceptical about anything that lifts or creates pressure that’s home made.
I’m not saying this isn’t safe but has it been stress tested or inspected by a hoist inspector?

What can I say that the crane is very durable and was built from 60x60x4 and 50x50x4 profiles, the hydraulic lift according to the manufacturer has 8t, but this is one of the cheapest lifts, so he is not convinced that he really has such a capacity
