It was also used to punish slaves in the US. I have a large Reflector, too. Recently she’s put out smaller leaves. Definitely need to up the light. She’s standing in the darkest spot in my house.
I had a couple of people mention to me on the day i posted the video that is was used to punish slaves in the US 😡😡😡 I was aware that it was used during the world wars as torture, but not on slaves. It has such a dark past, such a shame as with most things its not the plants themselves to blame, but what we do with them. Yeah i think nearly everyone get them thinking they are great for darker spots, but as with most houseplants they do so much better in brighter locations.
@@gypsylee333 Hi, I got mine 10 weeks ago. What I`ve learned, don`t do overwatering. She needs light, not direct sunlight. She don't like darker places. Cut blossoms directly, they smell terrible. And wash your hands :o) I love that plant.
My Reflector died off pretty quickly after I got it. The stems right above the soil just turned into mush and broke off. The stems really became liquid at certain areas. Does anyone have any idea what may have caused that? Maybe a bacterial infection or something? I got a new one and hope this one won't have the same problem.
Just absolutely love your content! This plant is on my wishlist, though I do have a cat. I've purchased a high side table to place toxic plants on. Hopefully I'll be able to put this plant on it soon!
Dieffenbachia were all over households and schools in my childhood. And it was only the beginning of internet, so almost no one knew that it is toxic. I know no one getting poisoned by eating dieffenbachia. I guess it doesn't look appetizing. Of course it is different times now. Everything has to be labeled and extra safe.
Hi. I am so excited for this extremely intelligent and good looking plant. It’s going into the office. I am curious about drafts, temperature etc. I live in NYC which is somewhat less tropical than where you live. This will live on a window ledge and I am thinking of talking to my office mate about not cracking the window. Thank you!
Thank you very much for the info! 🙌 What about propagation? I got a cutting of dieffenbachia seguine from a friend. And now I am trying to propagate it, but I am having such a hard time to get roots... I got it in water for a month already but nothing is happening... I got a big stem with 4 leaves in water (in a non transparent pot, I heard that clear pots are not good for rooting a dieffenbachia) and 2 stem cuttings in an improvised propagation box (a pot with no holes and plastic wrap) full of wet perlite.
I love my difenbachia green magic (black magic) She shows me when I want to drink, slightly lowering the leaves - then I water - it works in my aroid mixture, but I will be observing, because the roots from what I observed are extensive, but thin, so they are more sensitive to proper hydration of the substrate ups... I grew up with a difenbachia tree as a child 😜
I will put this on the list of videos to do no problem :) i think with the growing habit, the only way to make it bushier, might be to add more propagated stems in the same pot. but i might be wrong, if i am and someone knows differently please comment 🙏
.. You cut off a stem between two nodes and propagate in water, perlite or whatever you use.. When rooted you plant it in a pot fit for the size.. The mother plant will push out new growth above the cut 🤗 🌞
Mine has thrown up 2 pups & a branch on the main stem. So it’s starting to look more full on its own. It did so immediately after I repotted into a larger pot with a chunky soil that still held onto some moisture. It likes lots of bright indirect light & i do feed it regularly to keep it growing rapidly Edit - it also flowered after I repotted it. It was cool to see. But the flowers were quite unremarkable looking & smelled awful, like rotting corn in a hot, dusty attic. A couple leaves died off & the next few were much smaller after it flowered. I will definitely be cutting the flowers off immediately if it flowers again
I have the refelctor as well as the bali-hai and both are absolutely stunning. My bali-hai is about 5 ft tall and I honestly thought that was the maximum height until I saw yours 😮 Is there a way of maintaining the height? I assume, by looking at the growth habit of this plant, that it can be propagated by division, as mine has 3 new babies sprouting up around the original plant. Can it be propagated by chopping a cane? Would it be water propagation or can it be soil propagation? Both my dieffenbachias are placed on the floor in front of a south-east facing window with net curtains and it took quite a few moves round until they found their happy place so the care instructions given on labels are misleading. I remember panicking when the first old leaves at the bottom were fading thinking it was spider mites due to the weird yellow mottling of the leaves. Your reflector is an absolute beauty ❤❤Hope you have a wonderful plantmas 🎄🎄
Oh i have never heard of the Bali hai before, thanks for sharing, i just had a look and it is stunning too. yeah i think they do reach a maximum height, although not sure if mine has reached it yet, they start looking like some draceana at some point when they are large and lose their bottom leaves. I have not tried propagating mine yet, but yes i think cane propagation is possible yeah it took me a while to get their perfect spot, which not surprisingly was not what the label said (so annoying that they can be a bit misleading). thank you too, i hope you had a great plantmas 🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎅

Make sure you only water it when the pot is almost entirely dry and water from the bottom. I also killed mine right after purchase and learned it the painful way 😂 had to cut all leaves as they got damaged from root rot
I have got to get a reflector! That is absolutely beautiful! Takes my breath away!
In the USA Zone 4B, purchased recently as a 4in houseplant. Thank you for sharing! So informative! I can’t wait for my little pot to grow into THAT!
It was also used to punish slaves in the US.

I've struggled with the reflector but am ready to try a new one. Thanks for the informative video!
yay, that is excellent, they are such amazing plants, worth another try for sure
Update? Did you get a new one? What do you think went wrong the 1st time? Overwatering? I just ordered one I'm nervous.

@@wizewizard1840 probably over watering, use a chunky soil, wait till almost dry to water
Thank you for the informative video. I love all tropical house plants 😍

Jeez! You've been holding out on us! What a BEAUTY😍😍
yeah sorry 😬😬😬😬😬 so tricky to move it from its space, but i had some time so it went on a little trip to be filmed 😄

Does it have flower? And do you cut them?
In your video please show the pot size it grows on. I wish to know which pot size this huge plant needs
Hi there are no flowers, just a green plant. Sometimes blossoms, but they smell terribel. Cut them :o)

Ahhh that is amazing, thinking about it i think we had a dieffenbachia tree when i was growing up too.
Please add a video how to propogate
And mine is single cane. So how make it spread out

.. Dieffenbachia can grow up to 5 - 6 feet tall and they do flower too 😉🤗 sure you can water propagate by cane cuttings, or divide it when repotting..
That reflector is huge. Mine stays small even after a long time
Dear lord, did not know dieffenbachia can get that large! 😳😅
Dieffenbachia are absolutely gorgeous plants but I'm too scared to have it around my pets :(.
Understandable, that is the reason, that my beat of a reflector is way off the ground so my bulldog cant get to it.
I have mine about a foot of the floor. My cat has never bothered it.
Que tal este se dedicó a decirle a la naturaleza asesina. Habla de la planta y ya

Overwatering, or other environmental stress
