    Thanks for the tip about warmer temp to encourage growth on lower part of stem! I just bought a dieffenbachia that doesn't have leaves on the lower stem and have it under a grow led light (10W). Any chance the grow light can help with generating heat to make it a warmer temp for the plant? The leaves are also small so I'm hoping the grow light will provide the light it needs for the leaves to grow bigger 🤞🏽

    Hi Lucia! My small diffy has little black bugs crawling on some of the leaves. I see no damage yet, so I took it out of the old soil, gave the leaves a good shower and then repotted her. Is there anything else I may do to get rid of them or to keep them from coming back? By the way I believe the insects came from an even smaller diffy that sat beside her and whose leaves began to curl and turn yellow. Im trying to remain hopeful so I performed the same process with this smaller one. Please help!

    I had two, one died and the other one seems to be thriving but still gets brown spots here and there. It kept getting yellow leaves and I learned from another video that the planter was too big so the plant was staying wet for too long. I repotted it into a smaller planter and that helped.

    So I’ve had one of these for a couple months and her leaves have been drooping way down. I found out I haven’t been taking that great of care of it (thanks to your video). I was wondering if I need to look into ways to save her or should I just keep tending to her better and see what she does. Only a leaf or two has died from the bottom of it. I wasn’t watering enough and was way too close to a window where we’ve had some chilly days lately.

    These tips are so helpful! Thank you. I've only started being a plant mom since lockdown and of my 8 plants 2 are not doing so well...my 2 dumb canes :( I'm trying to revive them. They were in medium light then I put them outside in direct sunlight to get rain. I left them outside for a week with the tray which I now realize this probably is what hurt them. I live in the Caribbean. The leaves are half brown now and many dropped off. Should I trim it? Was the change in sunlight the problem? Any advice?

    • @PlantsandLucia
      @PlantsandLucia  3 роки тому +2

      Hi! Sorry to hear about your dumb canes, they can be very particular about what they like and don't like haha.. I'd recommend you trim the damaged leaves so the plant can focus its energy on the healthy growth... provide indirect medium light (not so much bright light).. and then wait :) Also how much water do you give them? I usually let the soil dry a little in between waterings :)...
      Don't worry, we may still be able to make them happy, just put them in a place like that, and give them time to recover :)

    Hi Lucia! I recently picked up a pretty tropic snow dieffenbachia. I never know when to water it. I've heard so much conflicting information regarding when to water them. it seems like this plant likes to dry out quite a bit before watering. It is still cool here so im trying not water as much. Should I wait for the leaves to droop before watering? any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    • @PlantsandLucia
      @PlantsandLucia  4 роки тому

      Hii! In my experience, the Dieffenbachia does like when the soil dries out in between waterings... However, I don't wait until the leaves drop, at least for me, that proves to be a bit too late (she still recovers, but for now I'm trying to water only when I feel the soil has dried out) - - every week and a half or so..!

    What if the leaves start to become yellow and droopy. I have a small dumb cane that's about 4 inch tall only with 3 leaves. I saw one of the leaves was yellowing to the point that it was pale so i cut that part out, but now one of the other leaves are starting to turn as well. I water it about once every 3 days and I keep it roughly about 6m away from the balcony door.

    No hace mucho casi mato un potus, si... un potus. Lo tenia hace mucho tiempo en agua y estaba perfecto, super grande. Como acá ya es primavera empece a fertilizarlo echando solo unas gotitas del fertilizante liquido (preparado a 50% de lo recomendado) y venia perfecto, el tema es que se me hacia tedioso cambiar todo el tiempo el agua asi que tuve una idea... se me dio por usar un fertilizante granulado que se disuelve de a poco (me pareció buena idea en su momento) y en muy poco tiempo hizo estragos en mi pobre potus T_T. El 80% de las raices se pudrieron, perdio muchas hojas y tuve que cortalo a ver si logro salvar algún esqueje. Aun no se, no se ve muy prometedor pero tengo esperanza de que mi error no sea tan trágico !

      Hi! This is most likely because you are watering everyday and hence over watering..! I usually water my Dieffenbachia every week (or every 2 weeks)... Every week I check the soil with my finger (until the second knuckle) to make sure I let the soil dry a bit in between waterings and prevent over watering..!
      For now, check if the soil is too soggy and let it air out and dry a bit so your plant doesn't drown...
