Yeah. When NW did this with Tarja my ears couldn't handle it at the part that is ridiculously high, in this video its the part at 3:45. I love Tarja's voice, especially her NW work but its just to screechy in this song. Floor's version is pain-free thankfully :)
Same with O Mio Babbino Caro. Its a personal opinion though, not fact. Floor's voice has never been too much for me, no matter what note she hits. She could shatter glass and still have me cheering for more!

If listening to Floor's version, personally I think her best performance is on a Dutch T.V appearance wearing this same dress. They have a clip from a NW tour and after a short chat she sings the aria and leaves the crowd in awe.
Floor was such an excellent choice, I'm super excited to see what they can do together.

Don't know what caused it, but didn't sound good. Beste Zangers is 6 years later, so a lot can change. Stylistic approach, breathing points, practice and day-to-day stuff like illness, mental state, concentration.
Who cares if she sang great on another day? If you're there in the audience you don't want to hear big faults. It's a live performance, so some deviation is to be expected, and not a problem. But big things at major moments can ruin a song or concert for some.
On the other hand, I've seen plenty of equipment failures, stumbles, missed queues, off-key singing, restarts, et cetera which turned out to be highlights because of the way the bands/singers handled it. Usually by humour and honesty.

AgeofJP Agreed, i loved both Tarja and Annette as well. Never got the whole overly biased opinions on all three of these women. They have different styles and approaches to their singing. kind of in the same with Iron Maiden had With Paul, Bruce and Blaze.

2267n Tuomas Holopainen it asked as a favor to Floor Jansen not sing with classical voice (Tuomas I guess that brings up bad memories) anyway I think for this new record and she will be free to exercise their voice fully.

I don't know was it Tuomas to ask her not to sing classical or she chose not to do it, but at some point I understand this decision. Floor's timbre is lighter than Tarja's and at some songs her voice wouldn't sound as "full" as Tarja's one. For example - even if Floor has the classical training she won't ever be able to sing Swanheart or Sleeping Sun as they were meant to be . This has nothing to do with the techinque, but with the voice itself.
As for example if Tarja someday tries to sing Monolith of Doubt or My Pledge of Allegiance, she'll die trying but won't ever sing it right ;)

I think Floor would make a good version of Swanheart, but not as it was meant to be, as you said. Floor can sing opera and Tarja is only classical trained, but both are soprano.

Floor Jansen was what Nightwish needed all this time, her voice is perfect for the group since it can cut through the heavy instruments rather than glide or float on top of them like Tarja's and Annette's voices did.

this is my nirvana hammerfall and nightwish are my two favorite bands of all time and it is so cool to see their two lead singers sing a duet singing a cover of a musical. stage musicals being something else I'm deeply passionate about.

Beautiful. I prefer Tarja's version, but both are great. They are two completely different versions--Floor's dramatic soprano and Tarja's a full lyric soprano--but they both share that beauty that comes from natural talent. Her voice is lighter with a more subtle timbre. Tarja's voice is more powerful with a heavier timbre. Both are beautiful. I am glad that Nightwish replace Anette with someone who can actually sing opera. Now that they have Floor, I am hoping that we see more Opera Metal songs. Those are their best.

What style of music can Floor not sing, one of the most versitile singers i've heard..
You must be a HUGE Floor fan. She fails in all the Nightwish songs she tries to sing in classical fashion: this one, Wishmaster, Deep Silent Complete and 3rd Man Down. Those are the complete list of such songs. She sings them part pseudo-classical style, part contemporary style head voice. I guess they are hard to rearange to completely contemporary style.

floor is fantastic, but tarja in End of an Era has greater chemistry with marco hietala, and the way she started singing at the ending part was just hair-raising. her vibrato with her arms raised out, was magical

You're absolutely right ... I'm saying that without Tarja, Nightwish wasn't what it was. In the higher pitch, Floor's voice is weak and and this performance here ... an overplayed performance, it was terrible to see him trying to sing an opera. I don't like Floor's voice, I can't help it, Tarja and the band were there !! Bring Floor here, well..You can't replace her, especially Flooral. Not a bad singer, but his voice is sterile and doesn't sound the way you would expect.

Until that last note she was perfect and in pitch. She's amazing and with training she'd probably hit the note but that note in phantom is one that only the world's top top sopranos can sing. Saying that she does sing very high and everything she sings is brilliant.

Toveri Juri And? All vocals edited one way or another. Sometimes it's more noticeable than others, but vocals are always edited and cleaned up. Plus Tarja's live version is still incredible.

+Vhlia It's better. She can sing it without NW, I see. I don't know why she can't sing it with NW. The last part of this song is only to high for her voice, it sounds to hard like broken glas (look a NW release). It is different to Tarja or Sarah Brightman, it is very well to, but not better.
Such an awesome performance. I've been a fan of Hammerfall and Nightwish for probably 15 years now (maybe more) and it's great to see two amazing singers do an iconic song from one of my favorite musicals. While I would argue that Marco would have been a "better" (that's a pretty subjective term) but Joacim adds a his own spin to the Phantom. Wish the video quality was better (still pretty good IMO) but all in all I'm impressed.

thats the thing tho Nightwish is a OPERA Metal band thats what they started as thats what they still wants to be but they had to settle witouth a opera singer thats why Tarja had a high "pitch" she is an opera singer they dont sing deep they sing high. . . thats why most people who grew up to love old nightwish hates them today coz now they soiund like any other rock / metal band and tbh their not the best anymore they USED to be different nothing could compare to them now. . pretty much everything can be compared to them
