Both are friends since the After Forever days, when Floor was invited to be part of Nightwish, the first thing she done was call Tarja and tell everything about it, because Floor wanted to know how would she feel about it, Tarja only said that it has been such a long time since her departure and everything was ok, that Floor should accept and follow her heart to never let the music industry change her. Well, I'm a Toumas fanboy and never even heard about such rivalry. Though it's true that I'm not really active in the community, I just enjoy the music and avoid the drama. But finding out they are friends warms my heart.
Gotta love how happy Tarja looks during this performance. You can tell she couldn't care less about past bullshit with Nightwish anymore, or that Floor is with them now. She is there having fun and singing her heart out with her old friend. How can you not love these two.

Floor is a fantastic vocalist but music is a very subjective thing so even though I recognize Floor's vocal talents her version of the band just doesn't resonate with me as much as Anette's era. I didn't like the last album very much so maybe that's got something to do with it as well.
There friendship is genuinely so cute. Them smiling at eachother, floor pointing at tarja wanting to crowd to cheer for her, them whispering to eachother onstage overall you can tell how much fun they’re having and how much they support eachother it’s so wholesome

As someone who's worked sound, I love the fight in the start where Floor is asking for her Mic to get turned down, and Tarja is asking for Floor's mic to get turned up. It's so classy, and I feel like this song almost serves as a passing of the torch from Tarja to Floor. Yes, Floor has a different style than Tarja, but the to of them are amazing vocalists who are both amazingly skilled.
well they have been friends for a very long time and I love that Floor is liek a big sister to her in here , I have even heard taht when Floor was given a choice to replayce Anette in the NW then she called Tarja to ask id its oaky....that alone shows how good friends they mustbe, and their chemistry on stage is also amazing

They show so big friendship here. Along with what already was said about how happy they look together, I noticed something else - both of them are trying make the other appearance better. First Floor gestured two times to lower her mic volume down, later Tarja asked the staff to bring the sound of Floor's mic up. This is called ethic and collegiality. They are just great!
That's just for their monitoring, performers can't hear what's going on offstage. That's why there's usually a front of house engineer and a monitor engineer.
LOL they can’t decide the volumes of what the crowd will listen to. They are asking the stage mixer guy to bring the monitor volume for their mic up or down, which is something that singers do sometimes, since for certain songs the monitor needs to be adjusted.

Yes. When they look to the side,point to themselves or the other person, then indicate up or down, it's for the monitor engineer. Rarely ever worked in a venue big enough for a separate monitor console. Most of the time I ran monitors from FOH.
A note to those who are talking about how they point to their mics. Doing so is not to indicate they want their voice down in the house sound. It's to indicate their voice is too loud in the monitor mix. If that happens, they can't hear the instruments and won't be on key (or, can't hear the other singers if they want to harmonize). It's a typical signal. When Tarja points to her mic and then Floor, she's saying, "I can't hear Floor well enough in the monitor mix to harmonize, turn her up." It has nothing to do with them being humble towards each other and instead, everything to do with the craft of singing. (That they are friends and are thoroughly enjoying singing with each other is evident from the very beginning, but this isn't that).
@Jack Actually, both have in ear monitors which you can see around 6:10 - however, they have singer specific mix to their in-ears (singers hear totally different mix than the audience) and the hand signals are used to request changes to the mix. Some lesser singers may even have tricks where the stage mixer listens to audio and even modifies the sound that the singer hears about herself to help her to tune a bit lower or higher if keeping correct pitch is hard. Of course, both Tarja and Floor are skilled enough not to require such hacks but they still need to hear each other with suitable volume to be able to sing well together.
The engineer obviously over did it when Flor asked to be turned up the first time since she had to ask twice for it to go down. I would to run sound for either of them.
Very true, especially because if you're singing yourself, on a stage no less, you don't really have that good of a picture of how loud your mic is compared to the rest of the band (as in what the fans actually hear)
Personally I love all of the lead singers from Nightwish. For me it is simply a matter of flavors. These 2 singing together on the same stage is like getting 2 of my favorite ice cream flavors on the same cone.

My first time seeing Tarja and Floor together. I thought there was a rivalry, but I didn't know they were good friends. This changes everything. She was probably happy to see Floor pick up her mantle in Nightwish. Awesome and them some.
It is funny how Floor asks the tech to lower her mic volume, so her's is not louder than Tarja's. But then Tarja asks the tech to rise Floor's mic volume at the 2nd chorus (2:46). Such wonderful ladies!!! thumbs up for them!

You are totally right! They are both beautiful and talented singers and they both rock! I love them both! At first it took me a few to accept Floor because I was used to Tarja when I discovered this band and I felt weird but after watching Floor perform it worked for me and I loved it. Just another chapter in the band but I still appreciate them both and love the band regardless. Glad to see these two pretty ladies on the same stage. : ))

Yup it's very obvious. Those two women don't have the slightest Problem with each other. Unfortunately it's Tuomas who is very bad in communicating with his members. He's a musical mastermind but lacks communication skills.

Floor is a worthy fsuccessor of Tarja, no one can replace her because she shaped Nightwish and stands for this typical Nightwish-sound, but Floor is impressive, funny and a good singer, I really like that she's with Nightwish now =) At least they again have someone who can sing and rocks =) And I love this, seeing them together... Mme.Tenebrae I agree, this is amazing, the two sound great, together, alone, always. I loved how Floor asked her voice sound to be lower and Tarja asked for Floor's voice to get higher as it was before, when she noticed it. min 6.28 to 6.42 - this is so important

That being said, Floor isn't trying to replace Tarja. She brings in her own style and sings the songs her way. She doesn't just sound like someone covering them. She's their singer now, and Tuomas is blessed he has such an amazing toolkit to work with now.

Greg S.B. Yes and no. I must say I think DPP and Imaginaerum are Nightwish's best albums so far, including the vocal work by Anette. But that's the albums. That's a lot of production work. When you watch Anette live though, it's a complete failure. Tarja had the vocal power to reproduce the quality of her album vocals on stage, but Anette doesn't even come close to what she sounds like on the albums.

Maybe, because many Tarjaholics always bullying her on the stage from the first time, she didn't have any confident at the time singing in stage, and of course it ruined her performance... Both of them are awesome vocalists and are equally respected professionally. Why hate any of them when they have both contributed successfully to their band, Nightwish! Just enjoy.
I like that there is genuine friendship and respect between the two. Under a minute in, Floor tells the tech to turn her mic down so that Tarja would be louder. Half a minute later, Tarja tells the tech to raise Floor's mic so they're equal. Just a nuance that I noticed.
If you checked the comments before posting, you would've seen several posts like yours being corrected. They don't control the sound for the audience. They asking the engineers to adjust the volume/mix on their in-ear monitor.

What I love about this is there are no issues between them. I'm sure they are aware of the "who's better" comparisons but that's everyone else's issue, not theirs. Two fantastic singers!

Great performance, but them just singing together and being so happy and friendly is what makes me happy. Not that I ever thought they hated each other or anything, but I never thought they would be like this together either.

Jut rediscovered Nightwish this last week. I didn't mind Annette but didn't like the changes in the arrangements and songs they made to accommodate her. First time I heard Floor I was unimpressed. But going back now and looking performances and new songs, Floor must have been a Godsend. She's SO good with the band, and they really took to her. I still prefer Tarja, but Floor is top-to-bottom better with Nightwish.
I think someone got an earful after this. Floor had to ask them to turn her mic up a little when she was solo singing, then had to ask them to turn her mic down twice, then Tarja asked for Floor's mic to be turned back up. Near the end Tarja shot a ima kill you look offstage for a moment. For those that don't understand the reason why it could turn into a big problem. Both of them have earphones in so they can hear the rest of the band and themselves. If they can't hear themselves they can get off pitch, if they can't hear anything else but themselves they can get ahead of the rest of the band. Esp a problem when using backtracking or doing duets
+Sabiths Pain I am by no means an expert on this subject, but couldn't they wear two earpieces, with only their own voice coming through one, and only the rest of the band in the other. I'd imagine it would be a lot easier to separate the two in your head if you're hearing them through different ears.

I like Anettes voice a lot, she is not as strong a vocalist as Floor and Tarja are but she is by no means bad. And Dark Passion Play and Imaginaerum are two amazing album. I think Nightwish is better off with Floor as their vocalist but I don't understand all the hate directed at Anette.
You know what I'd love? If the members of Nightwish were able to come to an understanding with Tarja and do a tour with her as a being duet vocals with Floor! I know there's a lot of bad blood there, so this is probably the closest we'll get, but could you imagine The Greatest Show on Earth with them both??
From what I read in a recent interview, Tuomas and Tarja are back in touch, even though only through email right now. He said that, when his father passed away several months ago, Tarja sent him a very kind and heartfelt email expressing her condolences and having a bit of a catch up. He also said that he sincerely apologized to her for how her departure from Nightwish was handled and he should have acted much differently, but it was ultimately the best decision for everyone. Tarja herself has said that, while she forgave Tuomas long ago, he hurt her deeply enough that they can never recover the friendship they had.
Tarja has said that she would be in for a reunion concert, but only if the then members did a public apology for the open letter firing. Considering only two of the members from once are part of the band now(jukka is on indefinite hiatus for health reasons and marco pretty much retired from everything), this is unlikely to happen. At least she is in good terms with Tuomas.
Not a bad idea, Tarja + Floor + Marko all sing in the same register. An anniversary concert with all 3 of them now would be epic, taking in consideration Marko's mental health can't handle a whole tour and Tuomas can't communicate with Tarja on a regular basis.
Two very different ladies, in both background, vocal use and everything close to that. But they're so beautiful together in both their singing and personalities! I'd love to see Tarja up close now, since I've met Floor a short while ago. I hope to see any epic duets like they did in the future!

I didn't want to listen to the "new nightwish" at first because I really support tarja, for me there will never be a better singer than her and I was really sad when she left. But admittedly Floor is pretty good, as well, and I couldn't help it but I kind of felt disloyal to Tarja listening to the new Nightwish songs, although I knew it is stupid to think that way....However, seeing them singing together and having fun makes me really happy and finally I know that I don't have to choose :D they are both godesses

Floor has an incredible ability to tailor her sound to the sound of whoever she's performing with, and make it seem easy. Her versatility is unmatched, and her ability to stand on her own is similarly extraordinary. It's no surprise she did so well alongside Tarja, who's an incredibly solid foundation to build the rest of your sound on top of.

Wacken’13 is no EOAE which was the ultimate Nightwish concert. Floor on W’13 was a massive disappointment, she lacked the power and energy of Tarja’s EOAE. Nightwish ceased being a top band after Anette was rid.

Damn, never saw this coming, but Tarja's been out of Nightwish for 10 years, so is very very in the past, and it is good to see she support Floor as now the lead vocalist of Nightwish. Clearly is a statement that there's no better person right now for the job like Floor. I've never seen this performance before but I have tears of joy gushing from this performance ...This was my favourite song from Tarja's era in Nightwish! And to be honest Nightwish no matter who was their leading lady have NEVER produced a bad album. And Nightwish Australia loves you sooooo much ❤❤❤

As someone who's worked sound, I love the fight in the start where Floor is asking for her Mic to get turned down, and Tarja is asking for Floor's mic to get turned up. It's so classy, and I feel like this song almost serves as a passing of the torch from Tarja to Floor. Yes, Floor has a different style than Tarja, but the to of them are amazing vocalists who are both amazingly skilled.

They show so big friendship here. Along with what already was said about how happy they look together, I noticed something else - both of them are trying make the other appearance better. First Floor gestured two times to lower her mic volume down, later Tarja asked the staff to bring the sound of Floor's mic up. This is called ethic and collegiality. They are just great!

LOL they can’t decide the volumes of what the crowd will listen to. They are asking the stage mixer guy to bring the monitor volume for their mic up or down, which is something that singers do sometimes, since for certain songs the monitor needs to be adjusted.

Yes. When they look to the side,point to themselves or the other person, then indicate up or down, it's for the monitor engineer. Rarely ever worked in a venue big enough for a separate monitor console. Most of the time I ran monitors from FOH.

A note to those who are talking about how they point to their mics. Doing so is not to indicate they want their voice down in the house sound. It's to indicate their voice is too loud in the monitor mix. If that happens, they can't hear the instruments and won't be on key (or, can't hear the other singers if they want to harmonize). It's a typical signal. When Tarja points to her mic and then Floor, she's saying, "I can't hear Floor well enough in the monitor mix to harmonize, turn her up." It has nothing to do with them being humble towards each other and instead, everything to do with the craft of singing. (That they are friends and are thoroughly enjoying singing with each other is evident from the very beginning, but this isn't that).

@Jack Actually, both have in ear monitors which you can see around 6:10 - however, they have singer specific mix to their in-ears (singers hear totally different mix than the audience) and the hand signals are used to request changes to the mix.
Some lesser singers may even have tricks where the stage mixer listens to audio and even modifies the sound that the singer hears about herself to help her to tune a bit lower or higher if keeping correct pitch is hard. Of course, both Tarja and Floor are skilled enough not to require such hacks but they still need to hear each other with suitable volume to be able to sing well together.
The engineer obviously over did it when Flor asked to be turned up the first time since she had to ask twice for it to go down. I would to run sound for either of them.
Very true, especially because if you're singing yourself, on a stage no less, you don't really have that good of a picture of how loud your mic is compared to the rest of the band (as in what the fans actually hear)
Personally I love all of the lead singers from Nightwish. For me it is simply a matter of flavors. These 2 singing together on the same stage is like getting 2 of my favorite ice cream flavors on the same cone.

My first time seeing Tarja and Floor together. I thought there was a rivalry, but I didn't know they were good friends. This changes everything. She was probably happy to see Floor pick up her mantle in Nightwish. Awesome and them some.

At first it took me a few to accept Floor because I was used to Tarja when I discovered this band and I felt weird but after watching Floor perform it worked for me and I loved it. Just another chapter in the band but I still appreciate them both and love the band regardless. Glad to see these two pretty ladies on the same stage. : ))

Greg S.B. Yes and no. I must say I think DPP and Imaginaerum are Nightwish's best albums so far, including the vocal work by Anette. But that's the albums. That's a lot of production work. When you watch Anette live though, it's a complete failure. Tarja had the vocal power to reproduce the quality of her album vocals on stage, but Anette doesn't even come close to what she sounds like on the albums.

Maybe, because many Tarjaholics always bullying her on the stage from the first time, she didn't have any confident at the time singing in stage, and of course it ruined her performance... Anyway, this Anette era have already gone and now Nightwish have an experienced versatile singer that can sing in any styles, have a great performance in the stage. And from her works outside NW we knew that her vocal quality in the stage is as good as in the albums...

I like that there is genuine friendship and respect between the two. Under a minute in, Floor tells the tech to turn her mic down so that Tarja would be louder. Half a minute later, Tarja tells the tech to raise Floor's mic so they're equal. Just a nuance that I noticed.
If you checked the comments before posting, you would've seen several posts like yours being corrected. They don't control the sound for the audience. They asking the engineers to adjust the volume/mix on their in-ear monitor.

What I love about this is there are no issues between them. I'm sure they are aware of the "who's better" comparisons but that's everyone else's issue, not theirs. Two fantastic singers!

Great performance, but them just singing together and being so happy and friendly is what makes me happy. Not that I ever thought they hated each other or anything, but I never thought they would be like this together either.

Jut rediscovered Nightwish this last week. I didn't mind Annette but didn't like the changes in the arrangements and songs they made to accommodate her. First time I heard Floor I was unimpressed. But going back now and looking performances and new songs, Floor must have been a Godsend. She's SO good with the band, and they really took to her. I still prefer Tarja, but Floor is top-to-bottom better with Nightwish.

I think someone got an earful after this. Floor had to ask them to turn her mic up a little when she was solo singing, then had to ask them to turn her mic down twice, then Tarja asked for Floor's mic to be turned back up. Near the end Tarja shot a ima kill you look offstage for a moment. For those that don't understand the reason why it could turn into a big problem. Both of them have earphones in so they can hear the rest of the band and themselves. If they can't hear themselves they can get off pitch, if they can't hear anything else but themselves they can get ahead of the rest of the band. Esp a problem when using backtracking or doing duets

I'd imagine it would be a lot easier to separate the two in your head if you're hearing them through different ears.

He said that, when his father passed away several months ago, Tarja sent him a very kind and heartfelt email expressing her condolences and having a bit of a catch up. He also said that he sincerely apologized to her for how her departure from Nightwish was handled and he should have acted much differently, but it was ultimately the best decision for everyone. Tarja herself has said that, while she forgave Tuomas long ago, he hurt her deeply enough that they can never recover the friendship they had.

Tarja has said that she would be in for a reunion concert, but only if the then members did a public apology for the open letter firing.
Considering only two of the members from once are part of the band now(jukka is on indefinite hiatus for health reasons and marco pretty much retired from everything), this is unlikely to happen.
At least she is in good terms with Tuomas.

Not a bad idea, Tarja + Floor + Marko all sing in the same register. An anniversary concert with all 3 of them now would be epic, taking in consideration Marko's mental health can't handle a whole tour and Tuomas can't communicate with Tarja on a regular basis.
Two very different ladies, in both background, vocal use and everything close to that. But they're so beautiful together in both their singing and personalities! I'd love to see Tarja up close now, since I've met Floor a short while ago.
I hope to see any epic duets like they did in the future!

I didn't want to listen to the "new nightwish" at first because I really support tarja, for me there will never be a better singer than her and I was really sad when she left. But admittedly Floor is pretty good, as well, and I couldn't help it but I kind of felt disloyal to Tarja listening to the new Nightwish songs, although I knew it is stupid to think that way....However, seeing them singing together and having fun makes me really happy and finally I know that I don't have to choose :D they are both godesses

Floor has an incredible ability to tailor her sound to the sound of whoever she's performing with, and make it seem easy. Her versatility is unmatched, and her ability to stand on her own is similarly extraordinary. It's no surprise she did so well alongside Tarja, who's an incredibly solid foundation to build the rest of your sound on top of.
I had no idea the pair had history... brilliant to see that Nightwish hasn't broken that friendship. Nightwish with Floor is simply on another level!

@@Mrtheunnameable Yes they did. Floor and Tarja have been friends since about 2002, when their bands toured together. And Floor had been a fan of Nightwish/Tarja since 1998 when Oceanborn was released.

Wacken’13 is no EOAE which was the ultimate Nightwish concert. Floor on W’13 was a massive disappointment, she lacked the power and energy of Tarja’s EOAE.

This is probably the best video out there. My favorite one from Nightwish (well, not really from them, but you get it). There is so much respect and friendship and professionalism in these 7 minutes, that I cannot express into simple words! These ladies are amazing! True Goddesses! Lovely souls! Damn, never saw this coming, but Tarja's been out of Nightwish for 10 years, so is very very in the past, and it is good to see she support Floor as now the lead vocalist of Nightwish. Clearly is a statement that there's no better person right now for the job like Floor. Can't wait to hear the next album, Tuomas is a f*king master producer and surely it will come with another mindblowing masterpiece

Lamento decirte esto, pero cuando piden bajar el volumen o subirlo es para nivelar el sonido de lo que ellas escuchan , no de lo que se escucha en el estadio. Si los audífonos que traen puestos tienen un feedback muy alto de ellas mismas, no pueden armonizar con la persona con la que están cantando. Pero no significa que afecte el sonido que producen

Lets just say nightwish is one of the luckiest bands as they have and had some of the worlds best singers and leave it at that, comparing the level of talent between them is pointless, im completly in love with floor and i have no problem with acknowledging tarja and anette are just as amazing.

I've never seen this performance before but I have tears of joy gushing from this performance ...This was my favourite song from Tarja's era in Nightwish! And to be honest Nightwish no matter who was their leading lady have NEVER produced a bad album. And Nightwish Australia loves you sooooo much ❤❤❤
Those two ladies... Their respect to each other, their voices, their love & friendship, Floor's modesty tore me apart. It's a fun song yes but, Floor's noble modesty hits me hard and made me shed some tears. This video made me smile happily and weepy all at the same time.
