I'm also wondering about gelling the soap in the oven I thought that soap with milk and sugar needed to go in the fridge or freezer so it doesn't over heat. Were you able to do this with it because it's chocolate or with powdered milks.
I soap at a low temperature - my milk portion is all dry so I find it copes with CPOP I only tent my soap in the oven so it’s minimally insulated and also I do smaller loafs which all help. If I were to do a long loaf or slab mould I’d watch it closely and if it started to heat up I’d get it in the freezer before it overheated- taking notes on my recipe for next time.
I'm curious about the tingle when I make soap with peppermint I feel really tingley but I like it because it soothes my dry itchy skin am I using the wrong peppermint I buy the expensive one mentha piperita will this harm me or my skin. I've only been making soap for almost a year and I'm just starting to like using E/O.
So peppermint essential oil has some allergens in it and depending on the variety include menthol- which is the tingly part normally. It could be that you are having a mild reaction to it or you have a sensitivity to the oil. And allergic reactions and skin sensitivity aren’t the same - you should know if your are allergic as it usually isn’t a pleasant sensation. If your usage rate is between 2-4% you should be fine (even up to 5%) - try not to go any higher than 5% As it’s in soap and is wash off it’s extremely unlikely to do any damage but keep an eye. To put it in context, grapefruit essential oil used bear on skin is photo toxic which means the area the neat oil touched the skin will burn on direct sun quicker than normal, but diluted correctly minimises or negates this effect. My one piece of advice is if you are selling soaps - stick to useage rates and include allergens on the label. Bearing in mind I am not a doctor and cannot give medical advice. If in doubt , see a doctor or medical professional for advice
