Hi Soapsters,
Ben here and i love making soap. Cold process Handmade Artisan Soaps. I use soap as a medium for art - and this channel is there for anyone that wants to learn the basics of soap making - from swirls to sculpted layers.
But i'll also show you how i push the boundaries with soap and hopefully create designs you've never seen before.
And as the name suggests this is a queer space. There is no judgement, there is no hate and there are no assumptions. the one rule is "be kind". My pronouns are he/him or they/them if you prefer

Thanks for the videos, just a quick question, my lye does not dissolve in the water, and I'm having many failed batches of soap : ( I had 48.5g lye to 97g cold water ) would be very grateful for any suggestions.
@@MauraMo you need to keep stirring it until it’s fully dissolved and goes clear - are you allowing the lye to cool properly?
@@QueerBullSoap yes lots stirring, but always left with grains in the bottom of the jug, think I might try a different brand of Lye. I use a glass jug to mix the lye into the water, would plastic be better ?
You didn’t give all information about many things
so pretty ❤❤❤
Awesome 🙌. I made coconut and olive oil soap with vegetable glycerine. It’s got a perfect amount of lather and cleans but It’s stripping and it’s very drying. It also creates build up in the sinks so I’m cleaning my sinks every few days 😂 first time soap making and it was a fail but I’m still using the soap and gave it to family to remove stains from clothing 😂. My soap is not good for much but I refuse to waste it. Lucky I didn’t make too much 😂but seing this video is perfect so we know exactly what each oil does separately. Thank you soooo much 😊
Pretty! And your drops are perfect! I don't like using liners in squeeze bottles, either. They're too fiddly and bothersome. You're obviously a very patient person.
Finally! A super simple, concise answer. Thank you so much!
Really useful video Thanks so much! Those colours really pop!
I have been soaping for 9 years - and have always done 1 batch at a time - and this is so helpful! Amazing! thank you!
Thank you 😊 ❤
brilliant information thank you :D question, what could substitue for castor oil? thanks, xxx
Also one more question dear. Do salt and sugar both fasten the trace? Can we add sodium lactate with salt?
I really learn from your videos. Even if we add a small amount of salt (4-5 tablespoons) to our soap recipe, do we still need to superfat the mixture?
Wow. Duh! Thank you!
I tried doing it this way in the oven and my bars grew a big foamy top. was my oven too hot? and is my soap bad if it gets the foamy top like that? looks like when you cook a cupcake 😂
Yes it's very useful thanks 👍
It looks great I like the color scheme it's brilliant organic 😊
I generally transfer such soap to the slow cooker and hot process it...but it's some pain I feel it.😊
My hot process soaps almost always develop brown spots...any help about this please? I use olive oil(pomace) Coconut oil (ev) palmolein oil(refined) etc...and essential oil...no matter how there will be brown spots . Could it be because of moisture? We have high humidity...
@@CAPITALISTRASH if the brown spots are more orange in colour that is probably DOS or dreaded orange spots. Usually caused by an oil that is close to or had become rancid. Usually if you cook out your hot process soap dos will take some time to appear (based on my cp soaps, as I don’t make ho soap as much). It could be that your super fat oil or the unsaponofiables are the culprit. Failing that are you unknowingly using to high a heat or is your crock pot broken and burning your batter. Humidity is usually a cure retarder not Brian spots.
I like how you look....it's nice 👍🙂
I have heard you can finish gelling the cut bars in the oven. Preheat to 170 F put cut bars on parchment lined cookie sheet standing on there ends. Put soap in oven, turn oven off and leave overnight. Cheers
Beautiful! Where did you find this mold holder?
Reconstituting powderd milk in juice works well. You ge the benefits of both worlds....
Your hempseed oil is very much lighter than the dark green I have seen. Yours is much more versatile as a result.
Hello from Savannah, GA, USA! Just to be clear, reconstitute goat milk powder, freeze it, then mix lye into iced bath container? I'm new to this. Thanks for the awesome video!
@@eveofalliance if youre using powder. Make your lye with distilled water and add the powdered milk to your oils and stick blend to combine. No need to reconstitute. This method is for fresh goats milk.
@@QueerBullSoapmany thanks!!
Does goat milk powder mixed with the oils have the same benefit of using liquid milk?
In my opinion yes - I also use coconut milk powder in my soaps as well. Others prefer to use fresh goats milk or have access to tons of fresh milk but I would tend to use powders. - my one bit of advise is to soap cool as the additional sugars can still caramelise and you may find trace accelerates to a degree
@QueerBullSoap Thank you! Sounds great!
@@QueerBullSoap Yes, that's been my problem, too. If I manage to get my milk lye into the oils when it's still relatively white, it then browns in the batter. The sugars in the milk get so hot that the top of the soap cracks. I can't cool my oils too much, or the hard oils will start to re-solidify, and I'll get a false trace. I think I might try putting the milk lye in the refrigerator to cool completely before I put it into my warm oils. Maybe it will have further to go to get to the point of caramelization? IDK. It's a balancing act, isn't it? Anyway, thanks for this video. I was feeling a bit discouraged about milk soap, but you've emboldened me to try again.
Rapeseed in America is Canola oil.
Thank you for explaining so weel the concept of saponification and cure, clears some doubts for me as a soap maker
I love Aloe Vera in soap! Thanks for the mica line tip, I will try this next time. Interested to know which fragrance oil you used…is it a uk supplier? I used to have a wonderful Aloe & Cucumber FO from The Soap Kitchen, but it’s been reformulated and now the scent fades and accelerates pretty bad 🙄. So on the hunt for a good replacement 😀
Beautiful work! Love watching your videos ❤
❤
Please let me know how to use 33% lye concereation
Hi Ben, I appreciate this is an old post however i would be grateful if you have the calculation to work out how much olive oil vs rapeseed oil is in the pomace blend as mentioned. I have purchased this oil and don't know where to start. Thanks ❤
Very cool!
Beautiful!!
NICE👏👏👏
I'm probably a little bit caricatural but I just feel like the sole solution to keep a soap dry is to use it only once a day (if not even less) and use 10 different soaps if you need to wash your hands 10 times a day. Which is basically what's recommended about shaving soaps, change soap everyday to allow them good drying (i've noticed how much drying is critical with those ones, especially the potash ones ?). A soap used around 10 times a day will clearly absorb much more moisture than it will release over the same period of time and will become sticky just over a few days. I'm not a professional soap maker, to be honest, still a beginner with the practice, but worked the theory, and I make far more liquid potash soap far more than hard soda. I've probably just made two or three soaps at all with soda and probably around a dozen with potash. But I'm clearly wondering what's the point in giving it so long dry time when I see how fast they get moist back. well this opinion probably makes sense just for myself using my own soaps. But I understand that a professional has to care about customer's opinion. Your "claim" (probably not the right word, English is not my mother tongue, sorry for this misuse) that saponification takes 48 hours reassures me, this matches my observation. However, I totally agree with you when you say there's confusion about saponification, cure, and I would also add trace to the list. The chemical reactions beneath are often misunderstood. But somehow I understand that too much information can be disturbing for beginners.
@@yannickcotten2854 the most important aspect of soap in my opinion is emulsion. Brining a batter to emulsion and knowing how your batter will trace is a keystone skill.
Beautiful looking soap.
I try to compensate for the water evaporation during the cook by increasing the water in the lye solution by 20 to 30 percent.
Genius!
❤❤❤😊
Best teacher🎉
What a great pour!!!!❤
Piping is always such a struggle for me. You make it look so effortless. 👏
Thank you so much! Finally someone who explained it in a way that I understand 😇
Can you add water at the vasoline stage to make it more liquid for pouring?
Actually - to get a more fluid pour and to add more luxury to a soap - you can add yoghurt to a soap to help the fluidity.
Need help with ricing EO's
Were can I get it
It is available on Amazon I believe
Wow! Thank you! I don't know how I missed this one! I started searching again for anything on 3D printing sudsy things and found this video! Excellent explanation and demonstration. I've watched a lot of videos and yours has the best info! I really appreciate your time and effort! Great job ❤
Glad it was helpful!
