...Sigh... After completing all my drawn dirt roads in splat3 and then converting it back to be a usable map, I noticed that my roads are not smoothened levelled out automatically. 😫 I drew many roads that go around mountains and hilly parts, they are not usable if they're bumpy/spiky and angled hugely.....😥 What's the point of being able to draw roads if that isn't done during the conversion process? It seems it would be impossible to edit that in heightmaps because as roads go up, down in height around the map you couldn't just use one set "height colour" as that would look weird making every road the same height.
edit: I had tried using the preview height png file as a guide to draw my roads around and between mountains but that isn't very good notifying you what is high, what is low.
Yes. Very frustrating. However I do have a video coming soon (tm) that is all about roads and all of your troubles are addressed there.
@@TallmanBradGameplay Thank you for your prompt reply.
So is this dead for A21? I'm having fun on the NYC map but it's mostly forest and I want to change the biomes around. How can I edit the map in A21?
I have a copy of a working version available on my discord channel you can download. You're welcome to join, download and leave after if discord isn't your thing. Sorry I can't provide a direct link here.
If it's just the biomes you want to edit, you can do that without MapToolz.
Backup the original biomes.png file by copying and renaming it to xbiomes.png (or something). Then just open the original in your photo editor and use the exact same colours while painting your new biome shapes. Save it as an 8bit RGB png file when you're done.
Start a new game to test it.
@@TallmanBradGameplay Thanks so much for the quick response! It is just the biomes I want to edit, so I'll give this a shot. I greatly appreciate the help.
@daverocks295 no problem. There's another video, or maybe two, on my channel about biome painting. Have a browse through. Might be some useful stuff there. Can't remember what I called the video. Will probably be under the mapmaking playlist.
@TallmanBradGameplay Do you have a link for the discord. I might be blind, but I don't see it in the description window.
How do I use the mod if my game is on Geforce Now?
Good question. I don't know if you can.
I think geforce now is probably similar to playing on a console. No mods. Unless you know of any other mods that work with 7dtd and geforce now?
Shame that Moptoolz seems to have be removed from the dirty loot wiki
It required an update after a21 arrived and this wasn't pushed publicly.
You can get the current 'working' version from my Discord in the mapmaking channel. It is pinned there.
Should it work with 20.5? I will get the Error: unknown command 'mapexport' :-(
I haven't tested it with 20.5 yet but you should test the old and new location of the mods folder. It may not work in the new location? Or may have to move there.
@@TallmanBradGameplay hi. I tested it in both folders. Same error. :(
@@pizzapandalive have you turned off EAC?
@@TallmanBradGameplay no. Because normally i play on Server. I will test it
You could just temporarily turn off EAC while working on your map. It won't work with it turned on.
How to get the pictures from the water and the POIs?
Previews are generated after using "mapconvert ##"
@@TallmanBradGameplay i will try. :) but first fighting with water :D
Fight against water finished. I have won. Previews are in. Thanks a lot.
@@pizzapandalive I'm pleased that worked. Or at least whatever you did got it working.
Whenever I type start mapexporting, it says EXC out of memory. Even after messing with the paging file and having 16GB of RAM, I still get the error. Any ideas?
I've not heard of that problem before. Can you check you have eac switched off (use 7dtdlauncher from game directory). Also temporarily move any other mods from the mod folder to your desktop or somewhere else. Is MapToolz installed in appdata/roaming/7dtd/mods? Not in the game folder. Things changed since this first video.
Also preview is no longer created automatically. Get back to me if you like.
@@TallmanBradGameplay EAC is off. I have removed all mods. I tried the MapToolz in my appdata/roaming/7dtd/mods folder but it never worked in game. Maybe I don't have my folder setup or something but I also tried it back in the game folder and it started exporting but ended up with the EXC out of memory again, maybe Its because I'm trying to export a 16k map for a server and 16 GB ram is not enough.
@@therobloxexploiter302 it should work in appdata... Could you try a smaller map to test? If it works it'll suggest it's the size that is an issue perhaps?
@@TallmanBradGameplay Yep just tried it on a test map i made in 6k and worked without problem. Dang was hoping to edit my 16k because teragons city and river placment is awful with no lakes at all. Well thanks for the help ill just use a smaller map i guess
@@therobloxexploiter302 you know how to add lakes in Teragon? Just increase the height of the third section of values in the white and grey area. I think the default was 18 or something. Try 40. Also try I creating the frequency from 0.25 (?) To 0.5. Sorry I'm not at my computer to check the values. Town settings will improve with time I'm sure.
when i type mapexport , in console say ERROR unhnown command....
i type version and mod its active...
Is it definitely in the correct place? 2 files in the Maptoolz folder which is in mods. And have you got multiple versions of 7dtd installed?
@@TallmanBradGameplay I'm having the same issue, Single install of 7 Days
I'll have to test it out tomorrow and get back to you. Have you just downloaded the Maptoolz app? I'm wondering if the current version has issues.

Does it not work in A21? I've tried mapexport and I get error unknown command
No not yet. A21 changed a lot of things. Give it time.
@@TallmanBradGameplay Thanks for the quick reply I can confirm Teragon works with A21 just need a way to make roads better
@@UnrulySanto have you loaded a map in game yet?
@@TallmanBradGameplay Yes I have, so the problem that I didn't realize with Teragon is that it's not generating Traders for A21 so you have to manually add them
You can edit your prefabs.xml and replace 'gateway...' with the name of a trader for a temporary fix. A fellow mapmaker called fluffypanda tipped me off to that.
Damn the link to this modlet is gone. You got another link or copy of it Tallman?
Its currently down. I've reported it. Should be back up soon.

Yeah just sad that it seems like this is discontinued. I hate those random generated maps, they cut POI in half, place stuff very weird in a non-organic manner. Made me loose interest in the game, which I just bought recently. But if the maps either let you start in the wilderness, or have errors like see through walls and the beforementioned POI missing half of it... no fun.
MapToolz is still very much alive and well. It was recently updated to version 1.4.
If you're getting errors in your map after using MapToolz to edit something it may be because you have loaded an existing game. Any big edits you make to a map really need a fresh game.
@@TallmanBradGameplay Yeah, the problems I had was with that King Gen map maker. I had hilarious errors, mostly with height and two POI slipping.
I tried to get that MapToolz but one place I found it requires you to register... and I not want to. I registered to so many web sites, quite often just to try out something and never used the site.
On their Discord I didn't find a download link, but someone saying this was discontinued.
@@Momoka7 yeah you can forget kinggen for rwg now really. Although it still has its uses for some map makers. MapToolz definitely isn't discontinued. Here's a direct link:

Not getting the preview file when converting the map back in 20.6????
Sorry I missed this. You need to use the "mappreview X" command now. Where "X" is the number of your map. This change was introduced in the last 2 versions of MapToolz. Documented in the roads video.
