- The United States Marine Corps West Coast Composite Band performing at the 125th Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Wednesday, January 1st 2014. This band is made up of three Marine Bands from around Southern California. The band members are fully combat-trained and prove that they are as proficient with their musical instruments as they are with their weaponry. Many of these these fine service members have completed tours in Iraq and/or Afghanistan.

The few, the proud, the Marines!! It doesn't get any better than that. There is just something about a Marine in his/her dress blues that turn heads. When my cousin put his on, he was a different person - just so proud!

And in case anyone's curious -- although each of them may be a talented musician...they also are combat trained Marines...each and every one of them is ready for combat...so Happy Birthday Marines...Semper Fi...
They all do go to School of Infantry after basic training but don't call them combat trained in front of an infantry man (grunt) to them they're all just P.o.g.'s (persons other than grunts.)
@@Flussig1 And? EVERYBODY other than grunts are pogs. That's the very definition of it. I was at Pendleton and at Margarita while my cousin was C 1/5. But a comm tech. And still, HE was a pog just because he wasn't 0311. It is what it is. But as a pog I went all over the world. I had the district pleasure of sweating my nuts off in Desert Storm and was able to see Guadalcanal, Henderson Field and Bloody ridge. Papua New Guinea and Sydney Australia. That doesn't even scratch the surface. I was truly blessed. I would not trade my time in the Corps for anything or any other Marine's career either. Life is what we make it. And yes. I marched the damn 6 1/2 mile Rose Parade in coroframs twice. Once still drunk and one sober. I prefer the former. But either way, both times I took off my shoes at the end and poured out the blood. God I hate those damn plastic shoes. Would have much rather worn my leathers. Anyhow.

Chills!!! Absolutely fabulous. It doesn't get any better than that. Once a Marine, always a Marine!! Semper Fi and Carpe Diem. The best of the best!! My hubby was a Navy Medic stationed with the Marines for a while and he said they could be funny as hell but when it came to being serious, there were none better. He had the utmost respect for them.
LOVED the drum major this year because he kept them playing the Marine Hymn over and over again. They are the highlight of the parade and why so many watch the parade.

What a parade. I had to march that parade in the Marines in 1974. It was hot in the wool dress blues..
Oh, but you looked so sharp and did the Marines proud! The band is what most people wait for when they are in a parade. Once they go past, I usually turn the parade off.

There is just something about them in their dress blues that always turn heads. My cousin was/is a Marine and he was a completely different person when he put on his dress blues. So, so proud!!

The difference between all Marine bands and the bands from all the other American military services? Every one of these Marines have been through the Crucible. They don't brag about it. They just do it. God bless the 2/5 and the 3/1.

The Marine band is the only reason I watch the parade. Once they go by, I turn it off. Here it is 2022 and I can't wait for January 1st, 2023 to see them again.

We won 1st place 4 years in a row in the battle of the bands on Band Day. We knew how to march.

Good to see the drummers using the more traditional snares and basses, rather than those tinny, R&R, hairy high school monstrosities.
I enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1962 after graduating from high school. Was high on draft boards list and wanted to choose which branch of military I would serve my country. By 1968 I had deployed with my recon unit 3 times with no regrets.

How often do these Marine Bands march with traditional drums? I've only seen the President's Own use them, and they sound a lot better than the side drums the Royal Marines use.

Not to down play the dedication and service of each band member, but do they play anything else? They played the Marine Corp song twice in this video.
They played it all the way down the line. That's what the people were waiting to hear. It's the Marine Hymn. Yes, they play many other songs. They are the only reason I watch the parade.

Why do some of them not have stripes on their pants?
In the Marine Corps if you're enlisted and under the rate of Corporal or E-4 then you are not an NCO therefore you don't have a blood stripe that's reserved for NCOs and Officers

I didn't realize female marines wear a different dress cap...
I've seen many females with the same covers as the males. This could just be their band uniforms.
I like these drums better than the snare drums they mostly play on.

+Franky Twofingers if you've ever watched show bands like HBCU's in the MEAC conference or even DCI, they use snares that are tune high and doesn't have that "wet" sound on it like a traditional snare, the bass drums are also not tuned as tight and have a ringing sound with traditional drums

Are you kidding? all of them are great musicians as well as fully battle trained soldiers. don’t disrespect them and yes, they can play the hell out of any band and I could listen to then play the Marine Hymn all day

They played it over and over again because that's what the pubic is waiting to hear. Did you hear the cheers go up every time they played it? Hearing them play the Marine Hymn is the only reason I watch the parade.
