Did my 1st install last week of a Window Bench and cabinets and definitely had to make a check list prior to delivery. Besides baseboards window trim also have to account for any outlets and if mounting to the wall, any studs, and potential wiring/ plumbing. A multitool is great to have. Also bring some wood filler and paint just for any unexpected accidents.
Hi Karl, I would think that your average customer will be totally unaware of the complexity that goes on behind the scenes and think "Crikey, that's a bit expensive". You have opened my eyes to what's involved mate, regards, Fred aka RoughAndReady
This is great Karl. So glad this is all working out for you. You've been doing this since 2019. I'd love to know what you did before and how you acquired your skills - you were clearly good to go in 2019. Cheers.
You’re probably one of the only ones I believe on this subject Karl, not bullshiting the public like some other UA-cam wankers. Good onya for staying true 👍
@@karlpopewoodcraft Yeah lost interest Karl, seems like it’s not how you do things but how to put false thumbnails up about silly content that appeals to people. Such is life comrade & I had great fun doing what I did for many years 👍
Thanks mate, my new phone is very good the Google pixel 8 Pro and I'm using mics. Now all I need is a personality 🤣😄 I'm trying my best, it's so hard talking to a camera without talking utter💩💩
Great video. I’ve been woodworking for a year now and only made things for myself and friends. The idea of doing client commission’s is a little scary. This is a good breakdown of it all though. I’ve not seen many videos of woodworkers actually talk about from start to end so more videos like this would be great! Maybe a good idea would be how to find clients?
Great video Carl, I don't think people realise how much is involved in even a small client job. Anyway mate keep up the great work. All the best. Oh one more thing...if you ever make it this far south don't bring that hat. 😁😉
Great explanation of what looks like a simple build and install but really can be a pain to look good. Like you said, the scribing can make or break a job. Thanks for sharing Karl. 👌
@karlpopewoodcraft I've saved this to my biz-playlist for future, repeated reference. One of my 2024 goals is to move the hobby into the side-hustle/income-generating zone, and this vid is a crash course in not crashing the money train before it is even out of the station. Thanks again!
All depends mate, big jobs this size and above definitely, furniture I'd like to build again yes, but just one of smaller projects no. I find it difficult but Jakobs a dab hand at it.
The fitted stuff looks amazing m8. Cracking video great information. Deffo need more of the start up business advice coming this way and maybe some different options on what to set up to sell with. Believe me am going thriugh few creator's channels back catalogue of vidoes to pull inspiration but some updated stuff would be great. Doing a small craft fair mid next month so gotta get finger out. Should hopefully be good though. Well if people will pay prices thats gonna be big challenge for me with them. 🏴👍
@@karlpopewoodcraft 13th December it's in school hall were my kids go am not expecting huge numbers tbh. Up to about 6 boards ready for sanding and finishing. Planning take some boards coasters bottle openers and a spalted beech hallway/radiator table if can get it all done in time. But again pricing is gonna be my issue don't suspect people are gonna wanna pay what there realistically worth.
@@karlpopewoodcraft any other advice for what u think might shift would be greatly appreciated. And have u ever worked with red Maranti got whole bunch of it the other day from cabinet makers across from me.
@michaelwillson6847 I'd just sat make the display as attractive as possible, don't put all your items out keep it quiet minimal so it looks like there only one or two of each item. Do you have a card machine because most people want to pay that way? Get a prime spot right in the middle if possible. Never worked with maranti but its lovely looking wood. 😊
@@karlpopewoodcraft a got literal shit ton of it the other day and there's more if a want it and a constant supply. A don't have card machine no relying on cash payments. Love the idea on minimal display thanks. Gonna look at doing one your bath trays aswell if a can squeeze it in. Don't think am gonna manage get any turned bowls for it which wanted but it's not going well there. I have been offered were ever a wanna put myself so will try pick prime spot. 🏴👍
A finger pull bit is on my to get list.... Come on Santa 🎅🤣
I hope 🎅 treats you well this year mate 👍

Definitely need that touch up gear mate don't you. I agree a multi tool is possibly one of the most versatile tools for an installation.
Great practical video mate! Client work is tough in general, custom installs even more so. All the tips are appreciated.
Cheers James, your welcome mate.

Great vid Karl, people often don’t realise how expensive custom built stuff is
Thanks mate, it's definitely a lot of work and time consuming.
