I love the idea of the master boards that are then copied for future use. It would never had occurred to me otherwise. Now, all I have to do is figure our where I can get it copied.
I am super excited to get back into paper and paint after having spent many months sewing! You have inspired me to pull out papers I painted last year to see what I am in love with -- or papers I might want to add onto at this point. Thank you for teaching us to run to the professional printer with our works!! Lots of love to you from Texas!
Thanks so much for your lovely comment and its lovely to hear you excitement about returning to paint and paper. Enjoy this next step in your creative journey. Happy crafting 💕💕💕
This is gorgeous Nina , the colours are gorgeous, I’m really lucky as I have some of your gorgeous artwork that you showed us, you made a gorgeous pocket, some lovely little note-lets cards , a lovely little notebook , I must use them , but I just like looking at them every now and then lol,,, it was when you use to do your giveaways,,, I shall treasure them forever,,,xxxx 😊💕🌺🌸🦋
I sit in amazement watching you create. Just when I think there is nothing more to add to make it more interesting - you add more color and brush strokes. Voila. Lovely.
Hi Nina, I was intrigued to see this video. Since starting an (A5) art journal a few weeks back I have got into the habit of making an A4 background at the same time whenever I complete a page. I didn't know they were called Master boards! I scan them and then print them out to use as card backgrounds, journal pages etc. Sometimes I pull the file into a manipulation program (I use GIMP, it's quite powerful and free), or even Microsoft Word can alter imported graphics easily. Then I can play about with inverting the colours, applying artistic effects etc. This weekend I used some of my printed background in a collage which I then scanned in and experimented with colours and effects. Your video has inspired me to be much more daring with colour choices and I'm looking forward to the next part! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Carol. I’m glad this video has inspired you to be more explorative with your colour choices in the future. I’ve not tried experimenting with any manipulation programmes, although a friend tried manipulating some of my backgrounds for me and it was fascinating seeing the same background in several different colourways. I always add any leftover paint during a project to a separate page too and I’ve ended up with some interesting pages this way. Happy creating 💕
A wonderful depth of colour there Nina . There is certainly an art to getting the colour mix right . The linen effect adds a lovely texture . All behind here .. trying to catch up with video's . Have a lovely week. Kay xx
Nina, that’s so very very effective...... I really really love 💖 how you built up those colours, for me I really really love 💖 all those bright colours. I’m going to try to have a go at this. I really really love 💖 and appreciate you Nina, you really really make my Sunday, or any day I watch you work. xxx Mags
Love.... but then I always do love anything you do 😊.Im glad I’m not the only one that keeps the original boards but have so many now that I have started using them to make space for new ones 😁.Look forward to seeing what you do next week X
Good morning nina, these masterboards were the reason I fell in love with your channel, so colourfull and so playfull, I make them a lot and often use them to make envelopes. The nice thing about it is the surpriseelement, letting go and see what happens, I love it. I am sure there going to be beautiful again next week. Now I am going to get dressed for a concert I have with the choir I am in, a bit nervous, but looking forward to it, your video was again a good start of my day . Have a good week , beye...lena
Hi Nina, beautiful background paper. Today I went to a Carl Strathmann exhibition (Art Nouveau). You should look him up because quite a lot of his paintings have inner frames with a lot of ornaments you would like.
@@NinaRibenaMixedMedia I am still watching most of your videos, I just don't comment a lot because I am very busy with a project making gel print albums and a lot of notebooks for Xmas gifts ... and I've become obsessed with gel printing!! i've even experimented printing on A3 paper just as a start for a great background, I'm having a lot of fun. Do you still sell downloads of your backgrounds/master boards in your Etsy shop? hope you are doing great 🌷💙
Lovely work Nina, you are so good at colour choices, they look sometimes as if they should clash but they never do? They always look eye catching and beautiful. You are much braver than I am xx
Thanks Rita. The key is making sure you place opposite colours away from each other, or making sure the first layer is dry before you add a complementary colour on top. I just love playing with colour 💕 xx
Thank you Nina, a great video......I've not been posting in the group lately as I'm doing Crystal's Seotember Challenge, it's hard going doing a piece every day (more coming up with ideas really). Looking forward to doing this two parter. Nice to see your other background masterboards too.
I love your masterboard, I am looking forward to making one. i have quite a few in various stages. I just seldom seem to use them for a finished project. Thanks Nina, have a wonderful week.
Well, obviously I'm very late to the masterboard party! I watched, played, had a ball, loved what I did and have just come back from my local printers where I've had them copied on to paper and card!
Thanks for showing us how to make a master board again Nina. I struggled last time so it is good for me try this again. I look forward building on this. xxx
Love this Nina. I find it hard to find time to AJ at the moment with having a baby, but this is something I could dip in and out of and build on in those rare quiet times. Thanks for the inspiration 🌈
You are such a treasure! Love your work, your style, and your generous spirit. Your master board is gorgeous! I love the ones you created on the back of cereal boxes, too. Were you making videos then? TFS. I did.
Awww, thanks Evelyn 🥰. The ones on the cereal boxes were done before I started making videos. I started my channel in January 2016. Thanks as always for sharing 💕
I think I need a painting fix so good chance to get out my arteza paints, I will try and get some done... Never know might even record it! 😂😂❤️🌼 Love those pinks and oranges, the pale blue colour really added a lift to it love that 🌼🌼 have a great week Nina xx
Thanks for directing me to this video, your style is so different from mine, but I'm trying to work outside the box lately and see what I can come up with.
Think I will make a background on Nina style today, however, I don’t think I can wait until next week to apply stencil work..., so there! I know, I will be too excited to make marks, to wait until we see what you do. I need backgrounds for holiday cards for “other cards” besides ones with mica. Have a grand ‘ole week, enjoying these late summer days and early fall. The leaves are already turning all the glorious colors of autumn.
Love your master board, Nina! You commented in your review of Arteza that the paper had linen texture on one side and was smooth on the other. If you did not want that linen texture going on, could you use the other side of the paper? I think the idea of having papers copied at the printers is so interesting and I really get why you do this but, in my life I have so much paper I have painted and collaged and gelli printed upon hanging around waiting to be used I just don’t see why I would have it copied rather than just use it. I mean, when I created the two color page last week using my gelli plate I had a good play and now I have SIX new gelli prints that I have no plan for, they’re just in my stash. I love the play of paint on paper, so it feels like I’d just rather make another piece rather than have one copied. But that’s just me. I love being inspired by you and all the wonderful artists who bravely put themselves out there on the internet! Thanks.
Thanks Ellie. Yes, you can use the smooth side of the Arteza paper if you wanted to. I personally like the texture on the front, but it is more challenging to work with. It wouldn’t Diane I’m sure. This went through a few ‘ugly’ stages along the way, but always remember that the difference between an ugly background and a beautiful one, is simply one more layer of paint. Go on, give it a try 💕💕💕
Of course I fell asleep to this yesterday 😀 which is actually a compliment to you becaue it is so relaxing. When you did this in cereal boxes - did you paint or scratch the paint straight on the printed side or did you paint white underneath?
Haha 😄, glad it was relaxing, or at least I hope it was ☺️. I lightly sanded the surface first and then applied a coat of gesso. Then painted away as usual 💕🎨

Thanks Jamma. The printers I use has a lovely selection of cardstock, but they are always happy for me to take my own paper along if I want something specific which I did in this case.
I usually take along a piece of Mixed Media paper if I want to make a journal cover as it looks like an original painting rather than a photocopy. But the satin 400gsm card stock/photo paper that my printers supply is beautiful too and makes the colours look wonderfully vibrant. I hope that helps 💕

Hi Nina. What kind of brush did you use in this video? I've been looking for one just that size!!

Hi Nina! ♥ Where can I get a broad, nice brush like the one you are using? Is master board the same as background?
Hi Sushan, I used a 38mm or 1.5” flat wash brush by CraftSmart. It was very inexpensive and was probably part of a set 💕
So pretty, what kind of brush are you using thanks
Thank you. I used a 1 1/2” synthetic flat wash brush. It was part of a very inexpensive acrylic paint brush set 💕
Love this...Do you take your own paper to the printers?
Thanks Jamma. The printers I use has a lovely selection of cardstock, but they are always happy for me to take my own paper along if I want something specific which I did in this case.
Can you use twelve by twelve scrapbook paper for this.
Yes, that would work perfectly too 💕
Lovely. I know these was edited but how long did you spend from start to finish?
Thanks Susie. This wasn’t really edited very much, just sped up. It probably took 45 minutes 🎨💕
What kind of paper do you have your art copied on? do they just run it through a color copier or a special type copier?
Its a satin photo photo paper that they have in their stock. I often take my own mixed media paper along with me though 💕
If your going to use one as a journal cover what do you get it photo copied onto? Just so I know what to ask for at the shop
