    I found skillshare good for stuff in the arts, like photography, graphic designs, using photoshop.
    Where as udemy is my go to for stuff related to tech like programming, frontend/backend frameworks, cloud, devops.

    I won't knock Skillshare...just yet, but a blogging course was promoted as a 6-week session, and I was excited about it. What I didn't realize was that the actual instruction videos were about 7 3-minute videos, where you got very general information like "think of who your reader is" and after watching one of the 3-minute videos for the week, you were expected to go try it on your own. In total, the course was less than 30 minutes of instruction. It was not what I expected. That noted, do the work to find out what the "course" is really offering on Skillshare.

    Nick, you should do side-by-side comparisons. A talking head saying they are both good, and only comparing per-course vs. subscription model, clarifies nothing.

    I am better off with Udemy. The problem is that Skillshare does have so many courses you tend to rush them through and forget about everything. Once you buy one course o Udemy, you really value that course and put more time into learning the smallest detail before rushing to the next course.

    • @KatiePrescott
      @KatiePrescott 2 роки тому +1

      @@ropecrewman36 yes, I tried listing Flex courses on Outschool before, but didn't have much success - unfortunately they do not have a proper Udemy-style LMS system, it's more like a class notes platform or Facebook group, so courses are not fully self-paced (each cohort has to be manually set up and all the lesson posts scheduled each time) nor does it include proper tracking of quizes and assignments. All videos, quizes, etc have to be hosted outside of Outschool as their system doesn't have any of this functionality. Also, most parents don't understand that flex classes don't have any live meetings, since Outschool's focus is on small group live classes. After a few attempts, I gave up on the whole flex class thing as Outschool just wasn't set up for it...

  • @rcpainter3023

    Personally I can't stand "Scamscription" models. By that I mean, paying a monthly fee for a "Finished" product. I can understand a subscription for a "Service" that is ongoing like, Netflix (they need to pay for their servers), Cell phones, etc. But this idea that paying for a finished product is just ridiculous to me. By finished I mean, it's complete. Microsoft Word is a finished product. Video games are a finished product (Unless it's an MMO which requires servers to run and play). Blu-ray movies are a finished product. Imagine paying a monthly "Scamscription" to watch your movies. Or worse, imagine Microsoft Windows or Apple deciding to start charging a monthly "Scamsription" to use their Operating System (I mean it is quite possible). This nonsense scampscription model started with Adobe and too many other companies have adopted this model. That's why I prefer Udemy. I pay for the course and it's mine permanently, even if some of the courses can be over $100 dollars. At least I don't have to worry about getting billed every month for it.

  • @AICanDoIt-rw8wx
    @AICanDoIt-rw8wx 11 місяців тому

    BTW. Udemy also has a monthly subscription model that is about the same price per month as Skillshare. This monthly plan includes many, but not all of their available courses.

    After comparing Skillshare and Udemy I have come to the conclusion that Skillshare has nothing more to offer that Udemy does not.
    Most courses on Skillshare are on Udemy and are paid once and you have full access for life. Whereas with Skillshare you have to subscribe yearly.
    Skillshare creates an impression of have a certain quality but blocks you from previewing courses.
    Most courses are mediocre and do not give high quality information.

    I took a quick look at your channel and I think most of the content is not specific to the audience.. You have great videos but UA-cam is confused as to what is your channel about that is why it doesn't recommend your content... When you get clear and answer specific question like this video then UA-cam will recognize it and recommend it to many people because it is good content.. If I can advice you it would be to focus on one thing and be great at it and cover specific keywords and UA-cam will reward you with tons of views

    which is better for learning graphic design?

    • @GetItDone.
      @GetItDone.  3 роки тому +9

      Because there are so many aspects to graphic design (typography, layout, logo design, branding, visual communication, colour theory, composition etc) plus learning the different software you would use (Photoshop, illustrator, InDesign etc) I would recommend Skillshare. For the price of a few months subscription you could learn a lot of that from multiple courses on Skillshare and it would work out cheaper than buying individual courses to learn each element on Udemy. Plus Skillshare is more focused towards creative topics than Udemy. I hope this helped 🙂

    • @GetItDone.
      @GetItDone.  Рік тому +2

      You are correct. In creative fields, it's more about increasing your knowledge and techniques, and developing your skills to build out your own portfolio of work. In academic fields you need a certificate to prove you have passed the exams and have the appropriate level of knowledge. In creative field you have to demonstrate your skills through your body of work. Udemy and Skillshare are both great for learning creative topics.

    For graphic design which is best

    • @GetItDone.
      @GetItDone.  3 роки тому

      I think Skillshare offers the best value for Graphic Design by far. There are courses on Photoshop CC, Illustrator, InDesign (all essential Graphic Design programs) plus typography (also absolutely essential for Graphic Design), branding, and much much more! For the price of a couple of months subscription plus the 14 days free trial on Skillshare, (say 6 to 10 weeks+), you could probably learn a lot of these things I've mentioned and you can take unlimited classes. Skillshare seems to be more creative industry-focused as a whole.
      Udemy has a lot of creative courses too which may be just as good, however, you would need to pay for each course individually so it could end up costing potentially hundreds of dollars.
      I hope this helped :)

    So how does one new to udemy/skillshare begin to select cources for study and how many you need before you are proficient enough for work in a certain field like marketing?

    • @GetItDone.
      @GetItDone.  2 роки тому +1

      Those are some great questions. The courses on both of these sites have breakdowns of the course contents, an introductory video with snippets of what the course is about and reviews to get an understanding of what others thought of the course. In regards to how many courses you need to complete in a certain field to become proficient, that's a bit trickier to answer. Every subject/occupation, and person learning it are totally different, so it's a "how long is a piece of string" thing. There are so many different types of Marketing job, and in every occupation there's always more to learn. Both sites have a lot of courses on Marketing, however if you're just starting on your Marketing journey and you're unsure what to invest in I would recommend doing the free Fundamentals of Digital Marketing course by Google. I've done it. It's pretty good. It's 100% free and you receive a Certificate from the Open University upon completion! learndigital.withgoogle.com/digitalgarage-au/course/digital-marketing
      Once you've done that, you might have a better idea of Marketing as a whole and what specifically you want to learn, and that might help you choose further courses on either Skillshare or Udemy (also check out Coursera for Marketing courses!). One thing I do know is, most people learn more, and faster from actually doing the thing rather than continuously studying it. So learn as much as you need to get started on something small and just give it a go, and get it done! You will learn along the way. Every failure isn't really a "failure", just another lesson learned :) Good luck!
