I literally dehydrated a basket of kiwis on Friday...and then the email came the day after! LOL They are Crack! I sealed the jar and hid it on the shelf so I don't eat the whole batch this week. 😜
So beautiful! I will definitely try this! Thank you for teaching/sharing about the glove with the mandelon- I will definitely put this on my list of things to get- I did hold my breath when you were slicing😳 so thank you so much for teaching this🤗That glove rocks!
When the food is in fairly large slices I line them up as you did here. When food is in chunks, like celery or carrots, I just dump and spread to a single layer best I can. Like you I pile greens as high as spacing between trays will allow.
I line food up on my trays so I can get as much on as possible. Sometimes if I have a very few for the final tray, I will put them on a full tray where they do overlap what's on the tray just slightly, then I go back and realign so they don't touch other slices as the food dries and shrinks.
Hi I'm newbie Donna. Catching up. Can you let me know if eggs can be dehydrated? And how do they turn out if so. Thankyou for the video. I love love zucchini.. although I don't like paying for them anymore. And that's if I find them. Thank you so much. Merry Christmas. God bless. Donna
Not by the safest standards, no. There are people who do, I am not one of them. There are better means of preserving. www.thepurposefulpantry.com/how-to-preserve-eggs/
I will be trying this today! I have four kiwis sitting in my fruit bowl, and I was planning to dry a load of lemon balm today. I will be peeling off the fuzzy skin though, I don't even like peach skin!😝
Hi, newbie here. Love your channel. I am just starting my dehydrating journey and you are an amazing teacher. One of many questions, You dehydrated kiwi and bay leaves at the same time. Won't the strong smell of the bay leach into your kiwi?
I LOVE how thorough you are in explaining EVERYTHING to us in your videos…you’re the BEST!!! 💕🌸💕 P. S. Anyone know a way to ripen kiwi after you purchase it, or is it not possible? Most kiwi I see in the store is not ripe and therefore it’s sour. THX!!!
Wonderful idea! I do have a question. I dehydrated tomato skins a few months ago. I will be dehydrating another back of tomato skins tomorrow. Can I mix the two batches together after conditioning? even though is a few months apart from each other?
Just passed up the kiwis at Grocery Outlet as it looked like to many to consume before going to soft. Won’t do that again. I don’t care for a lot of dried fruits as there are to sweet....think kiwi should be the happy medium. If I love them I will probably have to hide them in the back of the freezer.
@@ThePurposefulPantry Sorry I wasn't clear. I peeled my kiwi. I wondered if you ever did anything with skins after peeling. I didn't know if you can dehydrate them and add to any other powders? Maybe the greens?
Hi, it's me again. Just received my glove this morning. Sliced red onions real thin and I still have all the skin on my fingers. I have lost some in the past, not fun.
Sorry to let you know you need to peel it plus the Golden kiwi fruit taste 100% better. I am from New Zealand (kiwiland) The skin will irritate your throat 😉
If you dry them below 115F. But Vit C is not the only nutrient they carry - they have so many more benefits than that - the soluble fiber alone is a huge benefit of them.
Ultimately the temp doesn't matter unless it's protein. Recommendations are for most efficient dry vs nutrient retention, and some fruits do better lower . You keep more nutrients, less browning -- more time.
Nothing. Sometimes it happens. Next time, try turning the heat down a bit. If they were overly ripe, lots of sugars will sometimes brown during the process. It's why I always suggest doing citrus lower than 52C when drying. Give them another try!
I will NEVER dehydrate Kiwi again. I've been processing then for 2 days non stop and have ended up putting them in the oven. And i cut 12 slices each kiwi. Not thick like yours. Never again.
Sorry they didn't work. Are you sure your dehydrator is performing correctly? Did you test them when they were cool? What's the humidity in your home like? did you peel them? There are lots of things that can affect drying time.
I done care about pretty but just try oi get as much as can. Cant even understand the aging sure kids on back has line up with the word ball on the jars. Thats a waste of my time and too OCD for me
I made these. They are addicting! Gotta get me more Kiwis! My friends ate my first batch and now they want more. You have created monsters...ha ha.
So glad you all liked them!
Those golden kiwis just came out at Walmart so I'm dying to buy a dehydrator and make these!!
Those are so good

Love it!!
Crack wishes it taste so good!
My dehydrator arrives in 4 days, i am anticipating doing lots of apple chips :)
YAY!
Kiwis are also a great source of vitamin C.
I definitely need one of those "chainmail" gloves!
I told a friend about this, and she gave me 4 kiwis and told me to try it out. They will be done today. I can hardly wait!
Have fun!
I would've never thought of doing kiwi. I'll have to try this. I love kiwi. ❤
I’m ocd 😅 perfect rows and thank you for all your help with my new Cosori 😊

You are so welcome!
The glove goes on my Xmas list, I'll have to be real careful till then. Kiwi, who would have thought. Thanks
Oh - don't wait!! Pick something else for your list....or at least make sure you're using the guard!
Thank you
They look so delicious
They are! I'm not a huge fan of fresh, but love the dried!
Apparently you can do this with feijoas. I get prolific plums once a year too.
I personally like my done neat. And lined evenly as I can
Yum yum!!! I have a cutting glove but have yours on my list to buy 🙃
They look so tasty!
They are!
Thank you 😊

Good stuff I've done it

@Amanda Dye Hi, I was planning to use it for herb teas.
Typically, I don't ever leave skin on, but this doesn't bother me. And I am picky about dried food texture!

Nope.

I'm glad you find it helpful!
It might be put them in a brown paper bag, close bag up and place somewhere warm (& sunny?) …
Wonderful idea! I do have a question. I dehydrated tomato skins a few months ago. I will be dehydrating another back of tomato skins tomorrow. Can I mix the two batches together after conditioning? even though is a few months apart from each other?
Yes you can! As long as they are both completely dry, they'll be fine.
@@ThePurposefulPantry Great! Thank you💐
I cut the ends off then peel :)

Oh no!
I didn’t know you could eat kiwi peel!
Now you do!
Do you eat the skin? My granddaughter loves kiwi and I'm going to make her some.
You can...but like I mentioned in the video, it is a personal taste issue.
will have to try! not a fan of keeping the skin on though.
Do whichever way pleases you!
Darcy, do I soak the kiwi in the vinegar water like you do for citrus fruits?
If you want.
Hello I would like to know is there any plastic storage container I can use instead of glass and if so what would you recommend
Rubbermaid, sterlite, tupperware, the big names.
If you store them for 6+ months, how do you know if they’ve gone bad? What are the signs?
They taste off...they turn an off color.
Can you make dehydrated kiwi out of skins?
It is dehydrated kiwi. I'm not sure what you mean.
@@ThePurposefulPantry Sorry I wasn't clear. I peeled my kiwi. I wondered if you ever did anything with skins after peeling. I didn't know if you can dehydrate them and add to any other powders? Maybe the greens?
What liners do you use? I made bananas and strawberries today and i had hard time removing it from the metal racks.
I answered in your other question - but here's a whole video on options and their benefits/drawbacks: ua-cam.com/video/21o6VgjsoFA/v-deo.html
@@ThePurposefulPantry thank you
How long so you soak the kiwi, please, and why?
And in plain water? - I'm obviously new to your channel. ;-)
Do need to soak them long - just cleaning them since they are dirty when they come from the store.
@@ThePurposefulPantry thanks! :-)

No, you don't need to peel it - it's preference.
Do kiwis retain their vitamin C content through hydrating?
If you dry them below 115F. But Vit C is not the only nutrient they carry - they have so many more benefits than that - the soluble fiber alone is a huge benefit of them.
@@ThePurposefulPantry thanks so much for the info!
The recipe says 135° and you do 125°. I just put mine in.

@@ThePurposefulPantry thank you! I’m new to this and just thought I’d ask.
What are your liners made of? Is it possible to make my own?
Silicone mesh. You can use parchment paper, linen (though it's not necessarily nonstick).
@@ThePurposefulPantry thanks.
Could you puree kiwi and make fruit leather?
Sure, but mix it with some applesauce
@@ThePurposefulPantry Ahh...thanks Darcy, i wouldnt have thought to do that. Ima newbie! Lol
when i did mine last year the green part turned brown. what did i do wrong?
Nothing. Sometimes it happens. Next time, try turning the heat down a bit. If they were overly ripe, lots of sugars will sometimes brown during the process. It's why I always suggest doing citrus lower than 52C when drying. Give them another try!
Do you eat the peel after they are dehydrated?
We don't peel. It's your choice to peel or not.
@@ThePurposefulPantry With no peeling I’ll definitely be trying this :)
Put your glove on
Yes, ma'am!
I throw it on but I move it around to get the most I can on
I ordered a glove as I’ve cut myself more than once. You DO NOT want to cut yourself unless you want stitches or close to stitches.
Yep!
I see why you use that glove. Your fingers would end up on the floor too. LOL
