    This is a follow up and update to my previous aim guide. Getting good aim on PC can sometimes seem like a daunting task, especially if all your friends are already so far ahead of you in terms of mechanical skill level. Getting better aim on mouse and keyboard takes time but the truth is anyone can do it. You don't have to be a pro gamer to have great aim. You can improve your aim fast by understanding the fundamental aiming principles like: sensitivity, corsshair placement, the true role muscle memory, and how to practice your aim effectively inside aim trainers such as Kovaak's or Aimlab.
    Aim mastery takes a high level of fine motor skills and mouse control. The best way to improve your mouse aim and mouse control is through aim training inside of isolated environments. Aim practice inside of actual games is important too as that will improve not only your aim but also other game mechanics like using your movement to peak and dodge. However when looking to improve mouse control specifically you want to remove as many variables as possible, which is what aim trainer programs are great for.
    The first step in figuring out how to get better aim on mouse and keyboard is of course finding a reasonable mouse sensitivity. This a huge topic and I've already got multiple videos discussing how to find your sensitivity but I briefly go over it again in this aim guide by covering high sensitivity vs low sensitivity and the relation each has to your arm and wrist when aiming. For those curious here is the playlist with my other videos discussing mouse sensitivity in depth. • How To Find Mouse Sens...
    When discussing aim improvement it's important to mention the topic of gaming mice as having a sufficient gaming mouse is important when trying to get better aim on mouse and keyboard. You don't need the latest and greatest gaming mouse as long as the one you're using has a decent sensor. Not all mice are created equal. See my "Do Gaming Mice Really Matter" Video for more info: • Do Gaming Mice Really ...
    In my last aiming guide video titled "How To Get Good Aim on Mouse and Keyboard", I talked about turning the separate actions of flicking, verifying corsshair postion, and micro correcting into one fluid movement. This time around I go over a few more useful mouse and keyboard aiming tips. When trying to get better aim on mouse and keyboard many people go too fast when practicing flick aiming. It's important to push yourself when aim training but not before you have a good foundation. A great way to practice this is to think of a flick as nothing more than a really fast drag of your mouse. Another thing to consider when talking about how to get better aim on mouse and keyboard is tracking aim. An important part of Improving your tracking aim on PC is getting better smoothness in your mouse movements. The more shaky your mouse movements are the less accurate your aim will be. The other useful tip to get better tracking aim is to not over think and overpredict your targets movement. Trick yourself into believing that the target will forever keep moving in the same direction until they don't at which point you simply flick back onto them and repeat the process. Doing these things is a great way to get better aim on mouse and keyboard.
    If you want to learn how to get better aim on mouse and keyboard then this video along with my other pc aiming tutorials are a great start.

    Can you make a video on specifically on vertical aiming in faster games like Quake Champions? Nobody ever seems to talk about that. I find horizontal aiming much easier since you're pivoting around a set point (like your elbow) but vertical aiming is much trickier. I kind of rest my arm on my elbow forearm when playing so going up or down makes me change from this position and it doesn't feel natural. I need a new approach. Please help someone.

      I know this is old but I've been using Apex Legend's firing range to get exactly this in. I put it on octane, who's ultimate is a jump pad that launches you into the air. From there I use a wingman and practice my vertical shots for an hour or so.

    i get about 3 360's from 20cm of mouse space. thats just me though, ANNND my aim sucks 😂 but thats how i feel i play best, i have my bad days but then i have moments where i absolutely carry teams while outscoring the opposite team too. i think a lot of aiming skill comes down to reaction speed. if im against a guy with slow reactions but good aim, and i have fast reactions with a shit aim, i am still able to dump on him simply for having that split second advantage to adjust my crosshair correctly, so i can spray him up before he can even lift his gun. i've still had moments where i get the upper hand and lose a gunfight due to my aim though.

    What do you mean specifically and physically when you say using both arm and wrist together? Your forearm is resting on table edge and you pivot from it, but is your wrist/palm ever resting and being pivoted from? Like the smooth tracking at 10:12, can you explain what parts of your arm and wrist/palm is having how much contact with the pad? I apologize if the questions are very specific, but I dont get it, and you do, obviously ;) And I wanna learn right :)

    • @DatGoodSir
      @DatGoodSir  2 роки тому +8

      Great questions. I personally have about 60 - 70% of my forearm on the desk with my elbow off the table. My wrist and palm do lightly touch the mousepad but I generally try to not plant my wrist. It's never firmly locked into place and I can move it away quickly with my arm if that makes sense. Also my thumb and pinky are also just barely touching the mousepad for slightly more friction. I will also change my pivot points on the fly. for example if I know I'm likely going to track a target for a long distance like in the smooth tracking part I will slightly raise my elbow off the table to where it just barely hovers over the mouse pad. I'm still pivoting from my elbow even though my forearm isn't resting anymore. The wrist and arm work together by complimenting each other. The wrist is more precise. Think of a waving action 👋 within the range of that "wave" your wrist will be more precise than your arm. However that's a pretty small zone so there are times when you need to use your arm. The arm is great for range of motion and it can move your "wave zone" to a new spot on your mouse pad rather quickly. If you get fast enough at that action it will almost be one fluid movement. The other important part about your arm is it's way smoother than using just your wrist alone. Hopefully that helps.

    • @DatGoodSir
      @DatGoodSir  2 роки тому +4

      Hopefully that answers your questions. Lmk if not.

    • @WisdomPowerCourage
      @WisdomPowerCourage 2 роки тому +1

      @@DatGoodSir Yeah, thanks a lot man! When I started learning aim, I went from high sens wrist only, to putting my arm on table and lowering sens. But I still naturally use wrist planted for everything except 180s and such, because it gives me good accuracy. So when I track, I'm suddenly out of room, and drag my wrist across the pad, very uneven. So I need to be aware and learn to use the arm properly, even though it feels unnatural. I just want to be able to use as much wrist as possible without it being detrimental. Appreciate your answer!

      12:25 When you're practicing you have to just tell yourself mentally the target will keep going in the same direction. Use all your brain power to believe it. If it changes direction then you flick back and do it again in the other direction. It's tough at first but the more you do it the easier it gets in the future.

    • @DatGoodSir

      It depends on the actual fov while zoomed not every ads zoom is the same fov so the proportions will be different. Thankfully most games will do the math for you and will have some sort of zoom sens ratio setting. Leaving that at 1 is usually the best setting.

      It depends on the reason for changing it. If it's because you want to experiment in order to optimize then I'd say there's no rule but just make sure you give everything a fair try. If it's because you're performing bad in game I would try to look at other factors outside of just aim. Like positioning, decision making, game sense, communication etc before dramatically changing your setup.

      Yep practicing inside of real games and not just aim trainers is important. It's best if you combine the two. Practice in aim trainers give you more repetitions and you can work on specifics, where as practice in real games trains you to be able to read movement and how to use your own movement as well.

      You can if you want. But many people don't. Shroud for example uses a different sensitivity every game. It does take some adjustment time but the brain is good at adapting. But it can help you in your main game to practice in other games with the same sens. For example using a low CSGO sens inside a fast game like quake is going to help you when you switch back to CS because using your low sens in a much faster game helps to train speed.

Any tips would be helpful? And love the vid

    • @DatGoodSir

      That does make sense. I personally always have a little amount of finger contact with the mouse pad for a tad bit of friction. It terms on slowly aiming instead of flicking that just needs time to develop. At the end of the day it's all about motor skill development. I recommend playing some tracking maps in either kovaaks or aimlab with a low fov and fast sensitivity (keep using normal sens in real games) It will feel strange at first but it Will speed up the process of developing control and smoothness.

      Sometimes you have to make the best of what you have. On the plus side you can take this time to train your finger motor skills! Once you eventually do have a larger space you will be able to make use of those motor skills even on a slower sensitivity you will have better finger control. Some people even play like 12 -16cm on purpose for a short period of time in order to develop that.

    • @moonmoon2479
      @moonmoon2479 2 роки тому

      I also remember you mentioning that you use your arm to “stabilize” your wrist. Can you elaborate on that?

    • @DatGoodSir
      @DatGoodSir  2 роки тому

      Generally I use mostly arm for tracking and use the wrist when I need a little more range of motion. When my arm is no longer in a comfortable position to keep going Instead of picking up the mouse and recenetering my hand on the mousepad I'll try to squeeze out a little more distance by using my wrist. In terms of how to make aim smoother a good way is use kovaaks or aimlab and practice tracking maps on a higher sens and lower fov than you typically play on. You don't have to keep those settings forever and also you can keep using your normal sensitivity in actual games but that's good way to practice smoothness.

      @@moonmoon2479 The arm is much easier to move smoothly compared to the wrist but sometimes the movements you're tracking are so tiny that it's hard to only use your arm. So use mostly arm when tracking because the arm won't be as Shakey. But also use the wrist when needed for micro movements or a little extra range of motion.

      @@DatGoodSir thank you for answering. I’ll give it a shot. I wanted to ask two more things real quick if you don’t mind. One, how do you do micro adjustments up and down if the wrist can’t do that? And two, how do you use your chest and shoulders in play? I’ve never figured that out.

    • @DatGoodSir
      @DatGoodSir  2 роки тому

      @@moonmoon2479 I personally use a claw grip so my fingers will do micro corrections up and down. It's really easy for me I just either push or pull the mouse closer or further away from my palm. Shoulder and Chest get involved when you use your arm. not all arm movement is coming directly from the elbow itself. Low sens is easier to tell when they get involved but on high sens their movements are extremely small but still there. Especially when using the arm for tracking.

      I understand I was a low sens CSGO player and then I started playing quake and everyone said I was too low. Eventually I listened and gave higher sens a try and boy am I glad that I did. My advice is try to find a game or game mode that is fun to use higher sens with. You'll be more motivated to practice if you're having fun with it. In Overwatch that might look like playing Ana paintball to get used to a new sens for example.

      @odeee_1 It was actually the matchmaking putting me against ever-increasingly tough opponents which gave the illusion that I wasn't improving! I only play Apex casually now as grinding for ranked had me stressed constantly! But in other FPS games I'd say I'm above average (thanks to how tough Apex is and the skill ceiling I'd say)!
      It's almost night and day when you go from Apex to most other FPS games, even down to things other than aim like game sense and positioning

      Thank you! COD players typically use a higher sensitivity so it makes sense that your mouse movements would be smaller but if you think you're missing too much then you might consider incorporating more arm movements on a lower sensitivity. • @DatGoodSir
      @DatGoodSir  Рік тому +1

      I agree with you and that is a big point I made in the video. Motor skill development should be the focus not muscle memory. However muscle memory isn't fake. It's a very real thing. Although, it is a very poorly named thing and it has very little to do with muscles. Every time you practice an action the neurological pathways get an insolation around them called myelin. So in other words your brain gets more efficient at doing those moments. It is the entire reason why practicing anything allows us to get better including motor skill development. It's not about memorizing sensitivity etc and it shouldn't be used as an excuse to not get better. But saying outright that it is fake or not real is an incorrect scientific statement that gets often repeated by "aim communities"
