      Legit i think you're confused with the title of the video and the actual content of the vid. Her accent is pretty heavy but i think she was talking about a Japanese trend that happened and she copied it and showed you how to do it. The trend was taking a little bit of western style makeup and making it their own. Pretty sure no one looks like this anymore tho

    Okay, I respect your love for Japanese culture bcuz I too love Japanese culture as well but I'm going to say this and I'm in no way trying to be offensive. I mean I understand that there's a Japanese fashion style influenced by Western cultures such as crop tops you can find in H&M and Forever 21. But if you want to show respect to Japanese culture, don't distort or modify your looks in order to honor the Japanese culture. If you love anything or anyone, show respect as well. I love Japan and Korea and I respect both cultures. Love and respect are two different things. They may have some similarities but they're not the same. It's possible to simultaneously love and disrespec anything. I'm Vietnamese and I love my culture as much as I love Japanese and Korean culture. I was born Vietnamese and there's nothing I can do to change it. I will never want to become Japanese or Korean because I'm born Vietnamese, I can't change my ethnicity and because I love what I am. People need to accept their own cultures, race, and ethnicity. Hating one's own race/ethnicity is wrong. It's internalized racism. It doesn't matter what ethnicity/race you are, you're still beautiful inside and out.
    and just like what Joey aka The Anime Man said, "If you want to look half-Japanese, be born half-Japanese."

    • @ChocoTheTiger
      @ChocoTheTiger 7 років тому +30

      I get your point. I'm just thinking, being born into a culture is not your choice. If you don't feel like you belong in your own culture, there's nothing wrong with that in my opinion. I feel like there are just so many people who try to say "stay in your own culture, country, ethnic group, etc!" and that if someone doesn't like their own culture, they're "racist". I just feel like a culture should be open to anyone who loves it and wants to "join". Just because you're of another culture or race doesn't mean you can't belong in another one, too. Just imagine if an immigrant came to America and wasn't allowed to integrate into society, the culture, etc and call themselves American because they're of another race.... Doesn't that sound racist? So why is it not in this case, with Japan and non-Japanese people?
      I'm just interested in your thoughts on this. I looked through the comments and you looked the least hostile and most reasonable lol XD
      Oh, and I almost forgot, there are fashion trends in Japan that focuses on making them look more western, and also more like someone from Victorian England (lolita), and no one calls that racist. I'm so confused lol.

    • @bobatealily
      @bobatealily 7 років тому +7

      ChocoTheTiger I understand. I respect your opinion. I just believe it's not right to try to become a race/ethnicity that you're not. I *know* that being born [insert race/ethnicity] isn't a choice. (I thought that I clearly implied it in my previous comment). I meant show respect as well if you want to show love because they're two different things not the same. Most of the time I'm not tolerant of anyone who tries to be a race/ethnicity they're not but if they're polite and generous then I will definitely tolerate them.
      I saw so many harsh comments telling those who're actually half-Japanese who got offended after seeing this video to stfu and that they don't have the right to get offended and it drives me crazy. It's freedom of speech and expression. You can't tell people that they're not allowed to get offended because it's unfair.
      And thanks for being polite and civil with your response. I expected hate comments like "STFU SHE CAN DO ANYTHING SHE WANTS AND YOU CAN'T GET OFFENDED!" from Angelics or even comments from weeaboos later on but looks like I'm wrong. Whoo.

    • @bobatealily
      @bobatealily 7 років тому +5

      ChocoTheTiger I'll be happy to share my opinions. 😊
      The Japanese fashion trend, Lolita is fascinating. I fucking love it. There's one Japanese fashion trend that I'm not interested in, it's ganguro. It's bcuz you get tanned and I hate getting tanned. The trend died out a long time ago and there's hardly any women and girls who use it. And there's a Western influenced fashion trend going on in Japan and South Korea. So many Japanese and Korean girls wear outfits you can find in H&M. And of course the T-shirts or crop tops say words in English (mostly swear words) that they may or may not know what it says.
      Loving a culture without disrespecting it, I find it simple. Just be polite, calm and use manners. I just think it's necessary because you will give off a good impression otherwise people won't take you seriously and might look down on you and it's very depressing.
      And yeah I agree some people may unintentionally disrespect a culture bcuz of ignorance. Lots of weeaboos and koreaboos are like that. Some weeaboos get angry if they meet a Japanese person who doesn't do stuff/aren't what they expect all Japanese to do or be. (Their expectations for the Japanese are unreasonably high). I love anime and Japan but most weeaboos bug me. They're analogous to Christian fundamentalists. The bad apples of the Christian community.

    Okay so Half-Japanese isn't a 'look' it's a genetic combination. So are you implying that you can make anyone look (perfectly)half-Japanese from their base genetic heritage, or just Japanese-White?
    Also the reason I used 'perfectly' is because genetically it's nearly impossible to show half-half of the traits from both family's from genetic recombination(I.e reproduction)

    • @WRPBullet
      @WRPBullet 8 років тому

      Nicole Secomb Personaly I hope she takes this comment to heart. I know it sounds mean, but it's clearly offending a lot of people. I mean she's trying to "grace" a culture through imitating it's people. That may sound like a good thing, but she clearly doesnt have any idea what that means.

      Becky M Racism: a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving "the idea the one's own race is more superior and has the right to rule others."
      From what I can see, she is not saying her race is superior, nor does it seem she believes she should rule. She isn't making fun of the japanese race, she is more praising and has a great interest in their culture. That is not racism.
      Having an interest in different cultures, I believe, can open doors to acceptance. People see others taking a large interest in another culture and label it as being racist, which I find laughable. I t is nowhere close to being racist. Racism is discriminating, and putting down a race. She is not making fun, making jokes, criticizing, making racial slurs, nor is she saying the race is trash. She is showing interest, likes learning about japan and the trends that go among the girls of japan. She enjoys the fashions and the food. She embraces their culture. Like I said. I think if everyone would embrace different cultures, there would be more acceptance in this world. This is not racist.

    For those of you who came here to criticize this video please look at the description box! She was introducing a makeup trend in Japan, she was not saying that this makeup will literally make you half Japanese. This was not supposed to be aimed at people who want to be Japanese. She said "can foreigners look half?" as in, lets try this trend out. Also doesn't anybody remember the trend where some Japanese girls wear blonde wigs and contact lens to emulate the "western" or doll look? Did we ever laugh at them? Got offended and say "how dare they mock us!"Or did you just say "oh it's a trend"? Also guys its the opposite way around. Not for non-Japanese people to look half Japanese but for Japanese people to look half because it's a trend. And for those who want to thumbs down this comment go ahead. Like I care. I'm free to speak my mind.

    This isn't racist, stop trying to make problems out of nothing.
    Obviously this isn't what every half-Japanese girl looks like, she assumed people would be able to realize that. No one is stupid enough to believe that. She's just saying that this is how some half-Japanese girls do their makeup. I don't see anyone getting triggered at her makeup videos that are things like "How to look like a boy" and "How to look like a Victoria's Secret model" because for those, people have the common sense to know that she doesn't mean that every person in those groups look like that.
    In addition, as for these kinds of tutorials where it's "How to look like a Korean girl" and "How to look half Japanese", she bases them off of tutorials she finds in magazines published in these countries.
    And this is proof most of the critics aren't watching the videos! For this one, it starts off assuming that the people using the makeup tutorial are already Japanese. It teaches them how to do their makeup to look half white. Notice how no white people are getting triggered at that? Then stop getting triggered for Japanese people who don't care!
    Just stop trying to find reasons to hate people, geez.
    And yes, I am Asian

You will never understand the hardship of being Japanese. She won’t either. She wants to look Japanese so bad but will NEVER BE. She loves fetishizing us so much making us seem like some imaginary mermaid or some shit. WE ARE PEOPLE FOR FUCKS SAKE. Those Victoria’s Secret model and boy tutorials you are talking about ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Boys and Victoria’s Secret Models don’t experience racism and fetishism. if you really think about it, this isn’t as bad as it seems, Japanese people are doing the exact same thing just in opposite directions but nobody says anything here in Japan, (yes i am half Japanese and am 100% East Asian) it is completely normal for anyone to change their appearances to look as white as possible and they would only be praised for it yet if it was the opposite, a white/non asian trying to look half asian everyone gets bashed, i am not saying it is okay, it will always be wrong and sad to try and look a race your not. I am saying that if over here in Japan, people try look very white its normal, why isn’t it in foreign countries. Or if it isn’t in foreign countries, why is it in Japan?
    本当に考えてみれば、これは見た目ほど悪くはありません。日本人はまったく同じことを反対方向にやっていますが、ここ日本では誰も何も言いません(はい、私は半分日本人で、100%東アジア人です)誰もができるだけ白く見えるように外見を変えるのは完全に正常であり、それが反対である場合にのみ賞賛されるでしょう、白人/非アジア人が半分アジア人に見えようとすると恥ずかしいと思います大丈夫です、あなたのレースを見てみることは常に間違っていて悲しいでしょう。私は、ここ日本で人々が通常のように非常に白く見えるようにしようとすると、なぜ海外ではそうではないのかと言っています。それとも海外にないのなら、なぜ日本にあるのでしょうか?

    First of all, have any of you Asians or half Asians asked yourself, "why does she try to be all cute and Asian?" Maybe it's because she finds your culture amazing and interesting and really wants to be a part of it. Just because she wears what happens to be "trendy" in Japan doesn't make her racist. Are you gunna call someone who had a sex-change "sexist" because they switched genders? She loves your culture, so why not embrace someone who respects you guys? When she made the comment about the "dark brown eyes" not being able to work, that's because of the contact lenses colors.

    • @InTheNameOfLife1
      @InTheNameOfLife1 9 років тому +20

      Maybe understand what respect is first. Putting on a ridiculous accent, for one, is not respect in the slightest. Go study up on Japanese culture, what the Japanese have been through in dominantly white countries, like America and their internment camps for Japanese citizens, where hundreds died of poor conditions and exposure. Yet now white people are turning around and saying they "respect" the Japanese by portraying these ridiculous characters that are only a very, very small portion of the Japanese culture, and a very new one at that. It's okay to love the clothing, to showcase and create Japanese trends and styles, but to literally try and look "half Japanese" is horrendous. It's also pointing out that she believes being "half Japanese" is better or "cuter" than a full Japanese person, hence the brown eyes comment. This is blatantly racist, but I cannot expect you to understand that. A lot of half asians and asians in western cultures are discriminated against and stereotyped almost for their whole lives, yet some white girl comes along and she's looked at like a style icon for doing it. We need to educate ourselves as white people. It is our duty, our payment for the horrendous things our ancestors did to almost every other marginalized group in the world. So don't you dare assume to know what racism is, or tell someone to "accept it as a compliment" when you will NEVER face racism in your life.

    • @1522361
      @1522361 9 років тому +1

      You can't just say all "white" people, because yes, America is and always will be a very racist country. Thankfully, I'm not American and was not born in America. The girl who created this video is not American either. She is Hungarian/Swiss. I don't know why she does the accent, but I do know, that she is not making fun of being half-Asian. She specifically says that in Japan, looking half-Asian is a new trend. So maybe you should look at the social media in japan and depict THEM as being racist for making it a new social standard to be a half-Asian. And btw, I do understand what it's like to be discriminated for the reason that I am not an American, I am an immigrant living in America. I've been stereotyped many times in my life but you can't just jump to conclusions that everything someone does or says is racist.

    • @InTheNameOfLife1
      @InTheNameOfLife1 9 років тому +13

      Rosanna Holod Yes, all white people. Period. You will never face racism because you are white. Period. You are so ridiculously ignorant. You may have been stereotyped, but you will not be discriminated against based on your eurocentric features, and you will never know how trivial that is. This is racism at its finest.

    People saying "I don't get how this is racist" is because you are uneducated. Of course you don't see how it is racist, you don't have to deal with racism every day of your life. Please stop defending people's problematic ways because it's a person you like, it happens, no one is perfect and she's not trying to be offensive, but, you need to acknowledge, IT IS. Stop silencing and erasing what people of color especially Asian people of color, are saying just because you're defending against something you're not very educated on. You need to LISTEN and UNDERSTAND, especially if you are white and BLIND to these problems because of your privilege of being white.

      I'm sorry if I seemed upset, it wasn't my intention. I agree with your approach and didn't mean to take any "shortcuts". I just think that people exagerate a lot. From my experience, I don't consider this video offensive at all. This video which has zero impact on people, even Asians, and actual discriminating issues people deal with because of their "race" (not used to using this word, the concept of "race" for humans doesn't exist in France) are just not the same thing in my opinion. Same for your conclusion, she's not really "promoting" any stereotypical view. It's purely physical. It's a fact that most Asians, not only Japanese people, have slightly slanted eyes, it's natural and true to a certain degree to say it. Using this feature to harm in any way a person can be blamed though.
      I've watched dozens of makeup tutorial called "how to look like ...". For me it doesn't come across as "racism". For example, there are so many "how to look like a kpop star" or "how to look korean" tutorials, but nobody screams "racism", probably because the girls doing it are mostly Asians. It doesn't shock me to see a caucasian girl trying to do the same (her only purpose is to look "pretty"). Asian girls, who do makeup tutorials on how to look like a random hollywood star, also use tricks to make their eyes look bigger, like "white people", and nobody complains.
      As you said, what the black and north africans around my neighbourhood do is discriminatory. But I think it's clearly different from what this venus girl does. No matter what definition you give to this word, I think the intention behind it is really important. For this venus girl, she's clearly really into Japanese culture and loves everything about it. In the case of my dear neighbours, they're pretty much mocking others and have ill intentions (mmh not sure that's the right word for it, sorry, english isn't my native language...). Anyway, my point is that people need to calm down and stop screaming racism everytime and everywhere. It can be a stereotype, but in this case I don't think it's such a serious issue. I would've never thought of "racism" if I hadn't seen all the hate-filled comments.:/

    • @sarahg6248
      @sarahg6248 9 років тому +5

      Towfuh I agree with you 100%. People are confusing racism (which is hate and prejudice against a race, and/or believing your own race is superior to others), and realising or noticing that a person is of a different race than yourself, which doesn't mean that you think anything demeaning of them. If I met you I would probably notice that you have Asian ancestry because of a few physical traits that are more or less shared by most Asians, and if you met me you would probably notice that I have Native American ancestry because of a few physical traits that are more or less shared by most Native Americans, and there is nothing wrong nor racist about it. On the other hand, if we made demeaning comments to each other referring to our races, then that would be racism (especially if we did so with bad intentions - I add this because I know a few people who are friends, and are of different races, and they have fun teasing each other about their race, and joking about stereotypes, but they don't actually believe those things, they really love each other).

      Sarah G It's also amazing how people are saying that if you don't know what racism is then your uneducated when they don't even know what it is themselves. By their terms I would be racist too apparently. I love Japanese culture and have been since I was about 11 or 12 (I will be 24 this year). I always say that I was born in the wrong culture (white/canadian). I love Kimono's and using Japanese pen names. I am even considering a Japanese wedding Kimono for my wedding next year. Most people doing tutorials like this (i.e of a certain group) don't generally focus on the looks of normal individuals. They go for the look of the popular people. I know how you feel, I'm mixed (black, white, and native american) and most people with my mix or similar mix are portrayed as having glowing brown skin and crazy hair. I look nothing like that (I look like a white person who is losing their tan, with regular curly hair)

    If you're not Japanese, you can't look Japanese. no matter what you try.
    don't try to be like one of us while you are pretty of your own.
    its great you like our country, but you are really really obsessed with it.
    cut it down a bit would you~? Japanese people actually like foreigners who don't wear tons of make up, and just look foreign. instead of that they try to look Asian.
    Japanese guys love foreign girls. so just stick to the no make up, lenses and wigs, and just go all natural ;)

      ***** Thanks for commenting back.
      Japanese people are fond of foreigners, so instead of trying to look Japanese, I'd rather have her just look natural without any wigs or lenses and ridiculous make up.
      Its great she loves our country, but i really can't stand the annoying voice to sound cute, and those tons of make up. if you wanna wear make up so badly, go for natural make up or something. XD and dont use lenses and wigs.
      what if a Japanese dude falls in love with her while wearing the wig and lenses and make up. untill she takes them all of, he'll be gone before she's finished taking of all the junk of her face XD
      ahh well who am i to tell her what to do, as long she doesn't claim herself to be Japanese or something, even if she acquires a japanese passport, she'll ALWAYS be european, no matter what. :P
      ahh well, i'll be goin now, i'm gonna visit my friend in Osaka~~

      Ofcourse its good to love Japan, and ofcourse you can use wigs (so do i :P) but its just that she says "how to look half Japanese" that kinda bothers me since she isn't even a single part of asian race. so for western people it'll get hard to look "asian"
      but ofcourse you can wear cosplay, or wigs or whatever :P, just do what you feel like to do ^^

      if someone made a video titled “how to look half black” and then proceeded to wear blackface, they would be called racist, right? Same thing, different ethnicity

    Hi. For those people commenting from Einshines video, first of all,
    1. She didn't invent this trend , this trend is popular in Asian woman as seen in the same video. (trend is already existing. she didnt create it)
    2. She just wanted to re-create a makeup tutorial inspired by that trend.
    3. Because some asian woman think its desireble to look like a half-asian , and some foreigners thinks its desireble (pretty) to look half-japanese.
    4. Also comparing black people to Japanese people is not a legitament comparison because black people is a ethic group not a race.
    5. Its the same as "how to look egyptian " "korean makeup" (korean apply makeup differently then western(US) makeup) "arabic inspired makeups" They all exist.
    6. I can see how einshines is offended by this, because hes probably half japanese or full japenese? duno. But It clearly wasnt ment to offend anyone just like all the other makeup tutorials i said in the point #5.
    And yeah...people shouldn't hate, and should just appreciate. The goal in this makeup is to practically admire japanese or half japanese beauty/ makeup. /end of rant/

    I'm not sure if it's really 'half' per se. It was a good try, though, Venus.
    But the whole point of 'half' is that, especially the current generation, western influences have begun to take root in Japan and girls, especially, are straying further and further away from what is regarded as 'traditional gender roles' and what society had expected of them.
    Tanning and hairdying used to be taboo in traditional Japanese beauty (which is why geishas - the ultimate symbol of Japanese beauty - always had that distinctive white face and black hair combination).
    Now, we have all these western-inspired fashion styles that are popular such as Ganguro, Lolita, Punk and so forth.
    Also, a lot of Japanese girls think many western features are cute and desired; the large, deepset eyes, long lashes, defined nosebridge and cheekbones and so they strive for that look through makeup.

    I have a great friend in my class and she's from Japan. I must say that her voice does sound a little like this. Of course she doesn't force it like Venus does sometimes. But I found it really funny how emotional she gets just like in animes o.o She's also always so cheery and happy and polite. As someone who is quiet and easily depressed this was a shock to me X3 This has nothing to do with the video but I just felt like sharing something lighthearted instead of focussing on racism.

      +Beaubeau11 (Beau) I am not a half or even a bit Japanese, but I often get the question if I am Japanese or a half (from people who never have seen a Japanese person in really life).
      Why people are watching this video's you asked? Well, I am watching this beaucus I want to go ever in my life to Japan (after highschool I want to study Japanese). Not beaucus I watch a lot of anime, but beaucus I am truly interested in the language and culture.
      If I go to another country I want to become "one of them" as much as I can.
      Why ather people are watching this? I don't know. Maybe for fun or for cosplay, something like that. There a lot of people in my country who are trying to look like a Amerikan or someone from an other culture.
