I have had my Strix 3070 card for less than a month and unfortunately it’s got confetti like artifacts throw up all over the desktop, and it kicked me out of a game and said couldn’t load 3D accelerator. I’m freaking bummed I knew I shouldn’t have supported the scalpers I guess I deserve this
I found a Palit RTX3080 GamingPro OC and a STRIX 3070 OC at a local store. Guess what, the Palit 3080 card was cheaper than a 3070 by around 20$ (most stores have similar pricings but no stock). nVidia MSRPs work in mysterious ways.
Idk how but my father got one at micro center for Christmas for me I’m so thankful because for the past 2 years I’ve been playing on his 6 year old pc which has a gtx 760 and now when I build my new pc it’s gonna be a ton of fun
Why get this when this is almost as expensive as a 3080? I am actually considering this card & a MSI 3080 Ventus (luckily my local stores have it) I am worried about 8 GBs of VRAM won't cut it on the 3070

Thank you for reviewing one of the STRIX models. It was the model I was looking to get as I've had good luck with them in the past and no one else (I watch) had really been able to get a hold of them yet!
In the U.K. it’s close to $300 more than the FE. Dealers are after over £660 compared to £469 for the FE. Just a crazy increase in cost over other cards and the FE.
Since Gamers Nexus doesn't mention anything regarding coil whine. I would ASSUME that this particular Asus Strix doesn't suffer from any extreme coil whine. My Asus Strix 3090 had annoying amounts of coil whine and I've seen other people have issues with coil whine as well. I just hope to god that these are simply unlucky samples.
In the future, can you add a legend to the heatplate pressure maps? Would be useful to know how colors correspond to what values, as well as address other questions (e.g. do colors map to the same specific values across different pressure maps, are they relative values between max and min for the current map, etc)
Love the video as always, but am I the only one that hears the weirdly irritating hissing/static noise coming through? It almost sounds like a second microphone was recording in a "quiet room" with the gain turned up high. Thought it was my headphones or tablet at first but I hear it on 2x IEMs, 2x earphones, 1x on-ear headphone, and 2x over-ear headphones all on 2 mobile devices, a PC, and a streaming device
The price is worth it in the US. In Australia they are asking $1300 AUD for the OC edition and more than $1200 AUD for the non-OC. note that the current exchange rate would put $600 usd at around $840 aud. I'd accept $900 or even $999. I was planning to get one but...not for more than $300 aud on top of the American MSRP.
I bought the 3070 EVGA FTW3 Ultra for £560. If it helps you understand, I bought this because my PSU is 650W. So to buy a 3080 at its cheapest price I’d be spending at least £650 for the FE if I’m lucky enough and then another £150 for a higher PSU. I know you said Strix but it’s fairly similar
Some people like to overclock and values good PCB and cooler with a high power limit a lot. I have used some bargain bin tier cards (not GPUs) before that are so limiting in OC, and I hate that. I would be the type of guy who buys these cards, I'd have a 3070 Strix over a crappy ass 3080 reference bargain bin card that you can't overclock for shit.
@@OTechnology these cards suck at overclocking tho, it doesn't give you much benefit to oc like mad and even liquid cooling these puppies isn't as worth it at previous gens. Honestly the TUF is the best card this gen by far.
"Alternating fan flow directions" ASUS loves to harp about that but I haven't seen anyone testing if it really makes a difference. So does it really work in this configuration, or is it just another marketing bullet point that doesn't really hold water?
Theoretically yes, but I don't think there's a point to do so. The basic specs are the same aside from the CU count. 6800 to 6800 XT, that'd be a different story.
I think that 6900xt has 80 out of 80 CUs, and they wouldn't just make any perfect GPUs into a 6800xt. and as a flawed GPU, even if you could do a BIOS update, there sure will be some dead CUs causing bugs and freezings
Strix cards have kind of always been overkill. I have a 2060 Strix running @ 2115Mhz, never gets above 65°C...with its cooling it has more OC room but its limited by the vBIOs
2:12 mentions a teardown video for this card, did that ever go up? Desperately trying to find a video on the strix cards showing how the fans connect...

These go for around 1050 bucks new on gov group now. They were 950 a month ago but still that’s a great price considering the market and they don’t charge tax. So 1100 after shipping new. Considering these are selling for 1300-1800 on Amazon, eBay and Newegg rn and the fact that even 2070s are selling for 1k plus rn that’s a good ass deal if you can’t wait.
Any plans for a STRIX RTX 3080 review, Steve? If you could get your hands on one. I know I shouldn't be picky when it comes to 3000 series cards and get what's available, but I'm torn between the STRIX and EVGA's FTW3 or XC3
I'm still waiting for my 3080 Strix (ETA Dec 1st). The Strix cooler looks legit, but hard to justify the cost on a 3070. The price is just to close to lower binned 3080s.
Today i got a bit lucky. Bought it for 899 euros from a Dutch webshop (11-3-2021). I am a happy camper considering the fact that now most shops ask prices of more than 1100 euros......
Just got one of these for 960 bucks new plus shipping. Didn’t have to pay tax. So I spent just under 1000 in total. Around 993 to be exact. I’d say that’s great considering gpu prices and the market rn. These retail for around 750 Msrp so that’s only around 250 over Msrp.
Here in Germany, the price isn't 600...its 749-799€...100€ over the 699€ of the 3080 FE...The Problem here is, thanks to the scarce Market, dealers put a 100-150€ sometimes even more markup to ALL 3000 Series Cards. A 3080 Strix is 999+€. You only get one for 860€ is you buy it directly from Asus. Sometimes Amazon itself sells for MSRP and FEs are sold at the one certified dealer for MSRP...other then that you are out of Luck...and yet every Card is sold out... and that is not including scalpers....sry for my bad English ^^
I recently got my hands on it. I bought it because it was that one or a slightly cheaper model from another manufacturer, but I liked the look of the strix more. It cost me roughly 1100$ and it was from a retail store. But what is one to do? Keep using a 1050ti after your 1080ti dies or buy a new gpu? At the time of buying, I had no idea that the strix was pretty much the most juiced up variant.
Is it just me or has the video quality improved? Especially on that intro! I wonder when the ti/super founders and aib models are going to be released. It will be one review after another like the 5700 series 😄
Hey Steve. Like always, an awesomely detailed review :D. On the note of Ryzen 5000 series... do you guys have any info which retailers are going to list it on November 5th in USA?
Great vid! Are the G6 non X modules ECC on the 3070s too? Just curious. I always kinda think of these non flagship Strix cards in comparison to other high end cards like 3080-3090 Strix or others as that puts the price in context a bit more, but yeah a lower end 3080 makes sense since there are great coolers close to MSRP.
Thank you once again for a thorough review. One question I have is how indicative is the 3070 strix cooler and performance to that of the 3080 strix? Would've liked to see that review too, to get a better idea of the value. Thanks, stay safe and take care!
I already did some looking in to Turing when I got my 2080ti back in 2018, but I would like to see an in depth look on how the 2000 and 3000 series cards scale with regards to power limit. From what I can tell running most games at over 80% power limit yields very little additional performance while costing a huge load of more power draw.
Sounds "cheap". In Norway it's more expensive than the 3080 MSRP. Seems like the stores are overpricing at the moment, ASUS in particular. The 3080 TUF is 20% above MSRP for instance.
I'm upgrading after 7 yrs (going full DIY with closed loop) & after hearing AMD revel I canceled my 3080 order and 'll wait for amd benchmarks both CPU & GPU..
The Asus ROG Strix 3070 is already in pricerange for the 3080 FE. But the 3070 Strix is in stock in Germany (Retailer Alternate.de ) for 744,00€ 3080 Strix is out of stock (same retailer) for 989,00€ Such crazy prizes.

Been waiting for STRIX reviews
Thank you for he gaming benchmarks. It might not be useful for budget cards but OC focused cards should get a gaming benchmark or two. Great video, cheers!
Thanks as always for such in depth and scientific content. It amazes me the level of detail you go in to making these reviews. I believe you are the number one reviewer on youtube for that reason. Keep up the fantastic work Steve.
Nvidia's MSRP only applies to their cards(FE). Board partners can sell theirs at whatever price they choose
I appreciate it when you sponsor a product you reviewed and made sure is good.

I am actually considering this card & a MSI 3080 Ventus (luckily my local stores have it) I am worried about 8 GBs of VRAM won't cut it on the 3070

Someone needs to make a compilation of every time Steve says "nebulous". It's just his own word at this point.
I can't imagine the GPU overload you've had lately and I also don't envy you when the Radeon 60 series comes out. You'll only have about 2 weeks with CPU's before the GPUs release. Best of luck for the rest of the year. You've earned all the subscribes and then some.
In my country this card starts from 1000$, the TUF version is about 800$. Its hardcore speculative due to the low supply. Real prices should be lower.
Nvidia strategy paid off
More for the 3080 is fucking 700$
And you pay 1000$ for a 3070 insane

Since Gamers Nexus doesn't mention anything regarding coil whine. I would ASSUME that this particular Asus Strix doesn't suffer from any extreme coil whine. My Asus Strix 3090 had annoying amounts of coil whine and I've seen other people have issues with coil whine as well. I just hope to god that these are simply unlucky samples.
Isnt it nice that the new RTX 40XX series gonna be probably the best for 4K gaming while having 4k numbers as the model name?
And cost 4 k
The only reason I bought this was it was the first 3070 I saw on Amazon on launch day.
11:24 Steve fails the Turing test(!)
Thank you for reviewing so many 30 series cards. But too bad the 3080 version of the ASUS ROG Strix wasn't one of them :(
Exactly. I love these reviews but I had my sights on the 3080 strix as well and it seems now that no review on this will come here😢
$600 too much? Frick man, I'm almost going to cave and pay $1,200. It's rough out here.
In the future, can you add a legend to the heatplate pressure maps? Would be useful to know how colors correspond to what values, as well as address other questions (e.g. do colors map to the same specific values across different pressure maps, are they relative values between max and min for the current map, etc)
Great review. Will need to watch it in March of 2021 when it is potentially going to be available for sale.
Hey GN! Really loving all the gpu breakdowns recently. Also is there any chance of a Lian Li Galahad review in the next few weeks?
No
The price is worth it in the US.

Thank you guys for covering all these GPUs! Any chance we'll ever see a review for the Asus Strix 3090 OC?
I'll never understand why people buy mid-range Strix GPUs. You could get something objectively better for the exact same price.
on current market.. you may not had a choice..
It's because they're suckers that choose brand before value.

"Alternating fan flow directions"
ASUS loves to harp about that but I haven't seen anyone testing if it really makes a difference. So does it really work in this configuration, or is it just another marketing bullet point that doesn't really hold water?
For such a small performance uplift I don't see how this card could ever be recommended by anyone for the price.
Do you think it'd be possible to flash 6800XT with 6900XT bios? XD
Theoretically yes, but I don't think there's a point to do so. The basic specs are the same aside from the CU count.
6800 to 6800 XT, that'd be a different story.
yes
@@HalenShredder Yeah, I was just concerned about power limit of 6800 (250W).

Why is there such a large game in 0.1% and 1% lows in Total War on the 3070? It's lifted from low 40's to high 60's, which is significant.

Those Three Kingdoms 1440p results are kinda interesting, 1% and .1% lows did a 40% jump with the OC.
