The best thing about "The Slutty Pumpkin" episode is the part where Barney is waiting at Ted's door dressed as Maverick while "Danger Zone" plays on a boom-box. FLIGHT-SUIT UP!
Roseanne and Dan trying to one up each other in a prank war was epic. In the end, all she needed to do was pretend her mother was coming to stay for a few weeks. Classic.
That one doesn't qualify, since it wasn't a Halloween episode. If you want their brilliant take on Halloween, you're looking for "The Witches of Pennbrook."
Glad that SpongeBob's "Scaredy Pants," "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," and The Simpsons' "Treehouse of Horror V" made it to this list and that "Ed, Edd, n' Eddy's Boo Haw Haw" made it to the honorable mentions. Favorite Moment from number 1: Homer: (Homer chops into a room) Heeeere's Johnny! (camera pulls back to reveal empty room) Homer: D'oh! (chops into another room) Homer: Daaaaavid Letterman! Grampa: Hi David, I'm Grampa. Homer: D'oh! (chops down another door) Homer: (holding a ticking stopwatch) I'm Mike Wallace, I'm Morley Safer, and I'm Ed Bradley! All this and Andy Rooney tonight on "60 Minutes"! Family: (run off screaming)
I agree Treehouse V is THE BEST!!! Sabrina, The Teenage Witch had the tradition of annual Halloween episodes and they were all great! I know the show is not right up there as all these classics but those episodes were really great. I watch them every year!
Quantum Leap's "The Boogieman" was a genuinely creepy story of mystery and murder, especially considering that the show was not about horror or suspense.
I like All Halliwell's Eve, from Charmed season 3. Where Prue, Piper and Phoebe travel back in time to help their ancestor give birth, because Cole tried to wipe out their entire line by also travling back in time. Meanwhile, Leo and Darryl deal with a couple of Grimlocks in the present-Manor.
Boy Meets World's And Then There Was Shawn is one of the best ever. I can't believe it didn't make this list. And of course Friends's The One With the Halloween Party.
Special thanks to The Simpsons, Halloween is never boring nor even predictable. What I love about Treehouse of Horror is that Thank God that really awful edited second season opening that I can't take is not part of any episode at all. You know? The Couch Gag right after The Simpsons Title and before a really long commercial break?
I won't argue with #1 because The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror was always my favorite episode every year and its always on point. But Roseanne always did great Halloween episodes that really set the gold standard for sitcom Halloween episodes. And #3 is easily one of the South Park Halloween episodes. You can pick any one of them but the 2 best are season 3's Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery and season 16's A Nightmare on Face Time.
My favourite kids show Halloween specials (not in any particular order): -Magic School Bus In The Haunted House (The Magic School Bus), because it teaches people about sound and it also teaches people not to be afraid of things -Jet's First Halloween (Ready Jet Go). When the Propulsions realize that some strange things have been going on around their Earth neighbourhood, they soon learn about Halloween. Jet dresses up in an alien costume (and he actually is an alien himself) and joins Sean, Sydney and Mindy, along with his Bortronian pet Sunspot, on a fun candy collecting adventure. Then they all watch a lunar eclipse! -Hic Or Treat (Arthur). D.W. comes down with a nasty case of the hiccups just a few days before Halloween, and Arthur and his friends try to scare the hiccups out of her...and fail in hilarious ways! -Trick Or Treat (The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That!). This Dr. Seuss inspired educational cartoon is awesome, and in this episode, Nick and Sally trick-or-treat the Cat In The Hat way, by meeting animal friends and collecting fruits -(I can't remember this episode's title, but it's an episode of the CGI reboot version of Bob The Builder). Bob and the gang put up decorations, set up a maze and other things to prepare a local park for Halloween festivities. During the episode, Wendy tries to scare Bob by putting plastic spiders and bats everywhere, but when Bob finds where they are they've been replaced with treats!
Treehouse of Horror V #1 Excellent. Also here's my top ten Halloween TV specials/episodes list. 10. Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown 9. Scaredy Pants 8. Disney's Halloween Treat 7. A Disney Halloween 6. Casper: To Boo or Not To Boo 5. The Real Ghostbusters: When Halloween Was Forever 4. Halloween Night is Grinch Night 3. The Scariest Story Ever: A Mickey Mouse Halloween Spooktacular 2. Tricked!: The Loud House Halloween Special 1. Simpsons Treehouse of Horror V
I think I only ever watched that spn episode once, not because I didn't like the plot or anything but the way all the characters pronounced Samhain made me die a little inside and I could never put myself through it a second time.
To quote Sally: I WAS ROBBED! I spent the last few minutes waiting for "Great Pumpkin" to be #1, and it gets second place. You BLOCKHEADS! *YOU OWE ME RESTITUTION!!!!!!*
haunting hour's pumpkinhead n goosebumps haunted mask r my fav halloween eps. Can u guys also do a top 10 halloween movie/ christmas special/movie lists?
I like BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, BOB'S BURGERS, and the PEANUTS franchise. I love MODERN FAMILY, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS, THE SIMPSONS, and the honorable mention of FAMILY GUY!
How can an episode with that title be a Halloween episode? Wouldn't it have to be "Tuesday the 31st"? Not all horror-based TV episodes are based on Halloween.
Trick Or Treat ( Mighty Morphin Power Rangers season 2 ) the Big Bang Theory Halloween episode with the costume contest Home Improvement episode with the basement haunted house Stevil episodes of Family Matters the Scream parody episode of Boy Meets World all of those are far more deserving than garbage like Bob's Burgers & Spongebob :P
Trick or Treat was season 1 episode and i don't think was an halloween episode since Trick or Treat was the name of the gameshow that Kimberly and Skull took part in. i think you talking about 'Zedd's Monster Mash' episode which takes place in Halloween.
When you have curses, witches, castles, fog , skeletons, and black cats you know your dealing with Halloween. then add on the people to deal with it being Cap Kirk, Spock and Dr McCoy you know you're in for a unique episode. Honorable mention Garfield and South Park being infested with zombies which they think is just a real bad case of pink eye.

I think season one of Brooklyn Nine-Nine with the bet should've got at least an honourable mention
Lol, the shinning was hilarious! Homer doing the "Here's Johnny!" knockoff had me in stiches! Lol!
The best thing about "The Slutty Pumpkin" episode is the part where Barney is waiting at Ted's door dressed as Maverick while "Danger Zone" plays on a boom-box.
FLIGHT-SUIT UP!
Victim of Lag Yay
Roseanne and Dan trying to one up each other in a prank war was epic. In the end, all she needed to do was pretend her mother was coming to stay for a few weeks. Classic.
Does anyone remember the Halloween episode of Boy Meets World, the one were they were locked in the school. THAT WAS SCARY! Fee-Nayyy
woodencan they even had Jennifer love Hewitt as herself that episode.
woodencan Yeah I was gonna say that too. I think this list is focused on spoofy episodes not actual creepy ones cuz none of these were scary
Breanna Brooks well the boy meets world one was very spoofy itself
That one doesn't qualify, since it wasn't a Halloween episode. If you want their brilliant take on Halloween, you're looking for "The Witches of Pennbrook."
Glad that SpongeBob's "Scaredy Pants," "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown," and The Simpsons' "Treehouse of Horror V" made it to this list and that "Ed, Edd, n' Eddy's Boo Haw Haw" made it to the honorable mentions.
Favorite Moment from number 1:
Homer: (Homer chops into a room) Heeeere's Johnny!
(camera pulls back to reveal empty room)
Homer: D'oh!
(chops into another room)
Homer: Daaaaavid Letterman!
Grampa: Hi David, I'm Grampa.
Homer: D'oh!
(chops down another door)
Homer: (holding a ticking stopwatch) I'm Mike Wallace, I'm Morley Safer, and I'm Ed Bradley! All this and Andy Rooney tonight on "60 Minutes"!
Family: (run off screaming)
David Graham this list is fucking dumb
David Graham spoilers
David Graham yeah, especially since the Flying Dutchman is voiced by Bill Murray's older brother
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air Halloween episodes were always hilarious especially the one when Will gets hexed. Classic lol
I always loved the Halloween episode of Buffy seeing Xander as a bad ass soldier and Willow a sexy ghost was in the the words of Spike...neat.
"Holy crap, Leonards' a zombie!"
Where was "And Then There Was Shawn?" :O
First one that popped into my head. Still remember it from when I first saw it.
Margann Laurissa definitely should've been on this list its the first thing i thought of when i saw the title 😕
Not a Halloween episode
That episode was brilliant. It should have absolutely been in the top 3.
Good episode, but it wasn't the Halloween ep that season, the witch episode was.
I agree Treehouse V is THE BEST!!!
Sabrina, The Teenage Witch had the tradition of annual Halloween episodes and they were all great! I know the show is not right up there as all these classics but those episodes were really great. I watch them every year!
Good job watchmojo on including the Ed, Edd, n Eddie Halloween special. I'm impressed!
Thank you for putting Great Pumpkin on this list.
Happy Halloween WatchMojo!
Quantum Leap's "The Boogieman" was a genuinely creepy story of mystery and murder, especially considering that the show was not about horror or suspense.
Hey! Where's 'The Maureen Ponderosa Wedding Massacre' episode from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia?! Shambolic.
Love The Simpsons Tree-house of Horror specials! Best Halloween tradition ever!

Pink eye wasn't even mentioned? Never mixed Worchester sauce with embalming fluid ever since...
Omg I'm so happy you include the spongebob episode
Married with Children when Katey segal played the grim reaper .
"Halloweenie" The Adventures of Pete and Pete should be here too. Great episode.
I know it was too new for this list but last week's episode of Black-ish "The Purge" was one of the best I've seen in a long time.

Special thanks to The Simpsons, Halloween is never boring nor even predictable.
How is the That's So Raven Halloween episode not on this list??? That is by far one of the best Halloween episodes ever.
That 70's show Halloween special to old to trick or treat to young to die should have been part of the list.
My favourite special was the Hey Arnold! Hallowe'en episode.
Yay!! Community is in the top five!
"I've gone back to the time when dinosaurs weren't just confined to zoos!"
My favourite kids show Halloween specials (not in any particular order):
-Magic School Bus In The Haunted House (The Magic School Bus), because it teaches people about sound and it also teaches people not to be afraid of things

I think I only ever watched that spn episode once, not because I didn't like the plot or anything but the way all the characters pronounced Samhain made me die a little inside and I could never put myself through it a second time.
Halloween is the only holiday that can rival Christmas in terms of hype for me
I miss Community, it was awesome
TheNuyorker I'm glad this episode made it to the list

spongebob scaredy pants was the hands down best cartoon halloween episode
Wow, I can't believe Psych's "Tuesday the 17th" isn't on here, it's one of their best and is a fantastic Halloween episode.
How can an episode with that title be a Halloween episode? Wouldn't it have to be "Tuesday the 31st"? Not all horror-based TV episodes are based on Halloween.
Compucles I suppose that's true, I equated "horror" with "Halloween" (it was aired for the Halloween season originally)
I'd have put that Buffy episode at number One!!!
In this list my favorites are It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown & Modern Family.
Overlooked Episodes: Boy Meets World & Rocky Horror Glee Show
Trick Or Treat ( Mighty Morphin Power Rangers season 2 )
the Big Bang Theory Halloween episode with the costume contest
Home Improvement episode with the basement haunted house
Stevil episodes of Family Matters
the Scream parody episode of Boy Meets World
all of those are far more deserving than garbage like Bob's Burgers & Spongebob :P
The costume contest on TBBT was for New Year's Eve, not Halloween
Trick or Treat was season 1 episode and i don't think was an halloween episode since Trick or Treat was the name of the gameshow that Kimberly and Skull took part in. i think you talking about 'Zedd's Monster Mash' episode which takes place in Halloween.
maybe I just got the episode wrong...I meant the one with Pumpkin Rapper
newageBoundhippie Omg: I love this halloween episode!
