Lol yea when my wife complains about my iracing I tell her to be careful what she wishes for because if not iracing she'd be complaining about the hobby stock or street stock that would be in the driveway
Weirdly enough street circuits usually becomes a snoozefest only in F1. Meanwhile when you look at V8 Supercars, Nascar,or hell even current sportscar prototypes have been providing with some spicy racing on a street circuit (technically even Le Mans is ½ street circuit)
And of course CART in the late 90s could race well on every track with tarmac. A lot of this is because unlike current F1 cars, they actually USED the Venturi tunnels like Venturi Tunnels (and could do so without porpoising due to the presence of a third spring to reduce pitch sensitivity), and while heavier than the then-contemporary V10 F1 cars, they compensated with greater power and downforce. The result (immortalized as the VRC Formula NA 1999 in Assetto Corsa) was just as awesome to watch hotlapping as F1 cars, and could produce exciting racing on road courses, short ovals, and super speedways alike.
it really depends on the track imo. WTCC / WTCR had some really horrible street tracks in its history and those races have never been like their racing track counterparts. Many street circuits suffer from the problem of being too narrow and micky-mousy. Also Le Mans isn't a street circuit, it's a half temporary road circuit, since streets are in cities, and roads connect cities.
Cheers Jimmy, best battle and most fun race I had there all week. Incredible to be able to share the track with you! Was honestly surprised in my own ability to keep pace for the first half of the run. Car never felt the same after tapping the wall. Hope to run into you again soon!
Jimmy there actually is a European Nascar series that is terribly under recognized, it's called EuroNASCAR, they race at tracks all over Europe and it has a pair of races at Brands Hatch in June. They don't use the cup cars like in the US series but they are based off of them with 450hp, RWD, and a four speed manual transmission
I find street circuits more fun with tin top cars. NASCAR and V8 Supercars lots of fun. F1 I only like Monaco and streets tracks like Aus GP etc. Newer street circuits with F1 I don’t enjoy as much. I guess there’s something so satisfying about taking a heavy car that you have to muscle around walls and barriers while pulling gears and blipping.
I think a lot of the problem is that modern F1 street circuits are kinda just slapped somewhere and get some squiggles added in to add "interest". The Madrid track is a prime example of that, from all I've seen it looks like a poor man's Adelaide, but instead of Adelaide's excellent flow and fun drive, it's a pretty boring street track with some chicanes added in and a dedicated track section, all of which come together to form something utterly uninspiring.
“The cars ain’t real, but the racing is.” This always been my thought that the nervous feel when starting the race, the excitement when you get into a battle with other drivers, the adrenaline of chasing and getting chased, and the feeling when you crossed the finish line is always real.
But F1 fans aren't talking about other motorsports when they talk about F1, are they? F1 fans aren't wrong, street circuits do suck, FOR F1. That's all we mean, we aren't talking about them in general. If you do find an F1 fan who thinks that street circuits are bad in general, they are an idiot and do not represent the views of most F1 fans. The whole reason why most F1 fans say they're bad, without qualifying "We only mean for F1" is because we don't give a shit about anything except F1, so don't feel the need to qualify the statement, we all know what we mean, and so do you. If you hear an F1 fan talking about F1, they are talking about F1, not whatever motorsport you like, so yeah, don't listen to F1 fans if you want to know about Nascar. And the same applies the other way around.
Im British too but thanks to my dad watching NASCAR for a majority of his life ive been able to appreciate and enjoy stock car racing and what its all about. There is NOTHING like it

@@IcarianFalll It was also NASCAR's first ever street course race, and it had rain(drivers have relatively minimal experience racing these cars in the rain because, frankly, there hasn't been many opportunities to since they added the rain package). I think a lot of it depends on what kind of car is used, as well as the design of the circuit. The late 90s CART cars for example put on great racing at street circuits and were widely praised, and a lot of that is because of the need to manhandle the cars given the lack of power steering as well as the relative parity of the series (due to the use of customer chassis as well as the fact that cars could follow due to the Venturi tunnels and the third springs to prevent porpoising) leading to consistently interesting racing. It also helps if the street circuits are well-designed-which Long Beach, Toronto, Vancouver, and Belle Isle are, but many of the current F1 tracks are not.

There are many reasons why NASCAR is my favorite form of racing but your explanation of big heavy cars with too much power, terrible handling, and only a suggestion of brakes is probably my number 1.
Remember that after all the development that Dallara did for their nascar cup car, NASCAR had to roll back the downforce on the cars because of competitiveness. The cars were braking too good and leading to less passes and turns were easier to hog the inside. Other than that its still a heavy "underpowered" thin tired freedom boi.
That was immense. More!!!! I really hope Nascar continues with the Chicago street course. Maybe THAT is where they should have the Clash! (Well, maybe not Chicago in February, but Long Beach? Somewhere else more temperate?)
Having sim raced at and personally attended the LBGP, respect for enduring the pure technicality of this course in one of the rowdiest homologated vehicles ever
Hey jimmers love these new style iracing videos, amazing new direction (for me atleast not sure if you did this back in the day) Always entertaining and makes me want to hope right back on
Mac surely will see this video at some point. Awesome driving! I would have been starstruck and miss a shift as well, or more likely go into the wall after Jimmy laps me.
That's why I've never really understood the disrespect for NASCAR. It's not my favorite either, but Anybody who's ever driven at all, and I know that you are driving knows how valuable it is to learn to drive in a car that doesn't handle that well and isn't perfect because then when you get into a truly good car at some later date you know what you're doing you know how to deal with damage you know how to deal with unexpected situations if you've been hoarsing some boat around a track for a while. When I was much younger, I did a little bit of racing, much less accomplished than you are. But I got my start in what's called folks racing, where we would race junk cars on whatever surface was available, that would be tarmac or snow and ice or grass and dirt. You didn't know, and it might be a mix of all three. So we were struggling with low power, bad suspensions, if not overtly broken, poor brakes, crappy handling, and terrible conditions. And you know several of the guys that I raced with went on to become professional racers in various series. I was good enough that I get invited to fill a seat every once in a while, but nothing outstanding. Mainly, my value is I don't break cars. But I didn't have a decent car until much later when I bought a used 968. I had much less power than the people I was racing against, but that car really did handle extremely well. And with an upgraded cooling system, you could run it like you stole it the whole time and it just loved it. And despite often being a hundred horsepower or more down on the people I was racing against I could race with them and often beat them because I could handle the car regardless of what was happening Not that I didn't mess up spin out every once in a while, but you know much more so than the guys grew up racing Actually pretty decent cars. I Could handle surprises, and that's extended into my adult life. My girlfriend knew that I raced when I was much younger, but I don't drive aggressively with anybody else in the car or on the street because it's too dangerous. But one day we had a car that pulled I'll write directly into my path, and it was the first time she saw me move fast. I managed to dive into the side street behind the car and then get back onto the highway, manage the lurid slide that we were in, straighten out the car and keep right on rolling like nothing happened. Her eyes were so wide she was looking like a South Park character, and she just asked me how I did that. And I said that was experience and muscle memory. So the point of me telling this to you young guys is learn to drive in a crappy car Find some junk piece of crap. Make sure that your safety equipment is good that you don't need to compromise on and then learn to drive something that doesn't handle well and That will pay dividends for you. Heck. Get a pickup truck. And learn how to drive a pickup truck reasonably quick on dirt and tarmac. And that will go a long way toward teaching you how to handle a car in bad situations.
I agree that street circuits are magnificent but there’s something about a purpose built race track that just makes it feel like it’s built for racing, the corners are put together perfectly and the flow is artistic. Granted it really brings out the skill in people to try and find the flow on a street course so I understand both sides
I remember 10 years ago when they were pushing over 900 hp. Than they went to the 550 hp package and it sucked ass. Even now at 670, most drivers and fans want higher hp back. Love the content Jimmy!!!
A local 1/8th mile oval use to have 600+ HP "pro modifieds"...NASCAR definitely needs to go back to higher power, I agree. Also...I loved those "pro mods". All of the cars were bespoke, none of them used the exact same body...I think they were allowed somewhere between 600 and 700 HP. One the 1/8th mile oval...I dont think you could get much faster.
I hope that cough clears soon Jimmy sounds nasty, another nice little video and editing is on point 😂 Respect to Mac for being so humble at the end there 👍
Money shift is when you botch an upshift and end up going down rather than up. Same result as skipping too far on downshifts with pushing the engine way over the red line, different process. Perfect way to make your engine go pop, since you're already at high rev in the gear you're trying to get out of while also actively accelerating.
I like street circuits too, but for f1 it just doesnt fit that well because of the lack of overtaking opportunities, compared to gt cars and nascar there
And the fragility. Expecting drivers to race hard to get the best finish possible, but then they're all but required to be mistake-free at the same time because it's an unforgiving street course, it's just inevitable that it ends up being either plenty of carnage from your typical open wheel & prototype cars(IndyCars are the exception to the rule, those cars are tanks since they're built for 200+MPH oval use too) or it just becomes a parade lap race where no one makes a pass. These big ol' beefy Cup cars though, they can handle bouncing off of walls and each other throughout the race. Frankly, aside from their size(they're pretty wide), they may be better suited for street courses than about any other type of race car is lol.
If you liked this, you should check out the australian v8 supercars, if you haven't already. Basically a nascar, but with more aero and slightly less power. Then do a race around mount bathurst, and hate life and love life
Tight street circuits are a lot of fun. Sad that with I suppose advances in technology, and the ability to put these things up quicker and quicker, and with these pseudo courses where they build a racetrack and then turn it over to public use for most of the year, that street circuits are becoming wider and faster with time. I'm from Baltimore and I'm still waiting for a decent version of the GP in sim. There will probably never be another track as bumpy and messy, and that's what I love about these tight street circuits.
I love street circuits, the thing with modern F1 is the cars are humongous and can't do shit on narrow streets, Formula E on monaco is amazing (despite the lack of engine sound) and for me the pinnacle is the V8 supercars, just glorious.

Your videos brought me to video game racing. I wasnt that big of a racing gamer as a kid but your fun videos brought me to racing. It can be a healthy hobby. Thanks for your videos. Anyways great work sir and hopefully you can drive some crazy mods again.
so we're all here to talk about sim racing, or street circuits, or stock cars... but I want to shout out Jimmy's editing here (or whoever the editor is if he didn't do it), this video is great
I’ve done a league race here in the cup cars and this track is really fun when you learn it
Loved the concept of this video. Both live commentary and also some replays of crashes and good explanations. Keep it up!🏎
if anybody enjoys this i highly reccomend checking out the nascar chicago street race that took place in july, absolutely amazing start to finish
I remember seeing a Nascar a few years back near Brands Hatch (there was an event there).
0:29 the pure mention of this much freedom nearly killed jimmer
0:33 yea it can be a lot. You'll eventually get used to it
3:58 That edit was perfect. :D
I love the big burrly cup car for any sort of racing. Your on the edge so much, one mistake and thats it. Love it
Great race. Really love that clip at the end!
I love this content! It would be really cool to see some sprint car racing or even midget racing (the car not the person). It’s something I’ve never seen you do before and I think it would be really fun to watch. PLEASE!!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Now I want to see Jimmy take one of these cars into a rally stage.
jimmy loved the nascar plsu road course!!!! truly putting on a clinic. please can we see more of this
Every nascar race I’ve watched jimmy do he’s won or finished top 5. You were born for this jimmy you’re an American
That was great buddy, top watch! Some great battles and camaraderie. Kept up the great work ❤
Crazy to see a race at a place where you have walked normally. Recommend going to the aquarium if you ever go to Long Beach
Great video! Like the highlights from the other cars throughout
I need to give Next Gens on road courses another go. The Glen killed it for me.
There are many reasons why NASCAR is my favorite form of racing but your explanation of big heavy cars with too much power, terrible handling, and only a suggestion of brakes is probably my number 1.
loving all the offseason/ winter content . Keep it up Jimmer
Hate to correct you, Jimmy..... but they don't have V8 engines, they have V8 MOTORS🇺🇸🦅🦅🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🇺🇸
Motors are electric 💡⚡
Remember that after all the development that Dallara did for their nascar cup car, NASCAR had to roll back the downforce on the cars because of competitiveness. The cars were braking too good and leading to less passes and turns were easier to hog the inside.
Other than that its still a heavy "underpowered" thin tired freedom boi.
That was immense. More!!!! I really hope Nascar continues with the Chicago street course. Maybe THAT is where they should have the Clash! (Well, maybe not Chicago in February, but Long Beach? Somewhere else more temperate?)
I'm loving the new editing! The popcorn transmission made me lol
Having sim raced at and personally attended the LBGP, respect for enduring the pure technicality of this course in one of the rowdiest homologated vehicles ever
Hey jimmers love these new style iracing videos, amazing new direction (for me atleast not sure if you did this back in the day)
Always entertaining and makes me want to hope right back on
Love having you back doing regular content Jimmer!
Mac surely will see this video at some point. Awesome driving! I would have been starstruck and miss a shift as well, or more likely go into the wall after Jimmy laps me.
9:54 that money shift. hate to see it
That's why I've never really understood the disrespect for NASCAR.
9:54 going from 4th to 1st gear sounds like an H shifter problem. 🤦♀
Stock cars are a blast to drive. Always good racing
Love the content Jimmy!!!
they are discussing going up to around 750 hp. Toyota was the only holdout but have said they are now open to a hp increase
In any kind of racing, baiting the opponent and then falling for it is SO SATISFYING.
I hope that cough clears soon Jimmy sounds nasty, another nice little video and editing is on point 😂 Respect to Mac for being so humble at the end there 👍
Can we get more commentary on what's going on during the race? It was a nice little addition to the video
That clip from Chicago of them all piled up at the turn 😂😂😂 I was there was one hell of a weekend lol
Good news is the NASCAR Cup Series cars will be transitioning to paddle shifters in the future.
9:43 psychological victory
9:55 in America I think they call that a “Money Shift.”
Money shift is when you botch an upshift and end up going down rather than up. Same result as skipping too far on downshifts with pushing the engine way over the red line, different process.
Perfect way to make your engine go pop, since you're already at high rev in the gear you're trying to get out of while also actively accelerating.
@@AurionShan I thought “money” came from the repair costs
If editor chan was responsible for the Chase St Clair driver pic, it absolutely floored me 😂
YES! The street races are so fun in NASCAR! I'm an American- give us MORE CORNERS
Idk why but i like listening to this NA v8 reving to 9k rpm, even tho I m a 4banger guy 🤷♂️ (My crouch rocket revs to 14.5k, love the revs)
“Allergic to that much freedom” had me crying there mate
How do you shift a sequential from 4 to 1st? is he maybe using an H pattern and iracing just follows that?
Not getting lapped by Jimmy Broadbent might be my crowning achievement as a sim racer
If you liked this, you should check out the australian v8 supercars, if you haven't already.
Basically a nascar, but with more aero and slightly less power.
Then do a race around mount bathurst, and hate life and love life
I love this kind videos Jimmer aside tour Nurburgring challenges. THIS is amazing content i like 🤟
Tight street circuits are a lot of fun.
0:25 honestly the next gen has too much grip and aero compared to the older packages
I love street circuits, the thing with modern F1 is the cars are humongous and can't do shit on narrow streets, Formula E on monaco is amazing (despite the lack of engine sound) and for me the pinnacle is the V8 supercars, just glorious.
Thanks for showing American racing some love Jimmer
3:50 it's probably pronounced like St.John ("Sinjon/Sinjin"), as "Sinclair"
No it’s pronounced saint clair as the guy who is the real chase
@@Chased.Down42 I stand corrected then, at least in this case. Though Sinclair does exist as a surname and I'd guess it is/was derived that way
