Can’t wait to see the range videos. 20 years ago I got to shoot an HK91, my stronger memory is how comically strong the brass ejection was. We measured it and that gun was launching the brass over 30’ away. It was built from a parts kit so that may have had something to do with it
That finish is great, like it a bit better than the finish on my PTR 32 . That looks closer to the German G3’s I qualified with in the 80’s . Thanks for the review !
I had no idea the cetme originated in spain. Pre-pandemic I was gonna pick up a C308 with wood furniture. Online, theu were listed from $600-700. I ended up getting an M1 Garand for $750 from the CMP in July 2020 instead. I'm a bit bummed I missed the cetme, but the Garand has been a great rifle.
I had the same exact canted sight issue with my PTR. I sent them an email with a photo of the sight and they sent me a fedex shipping label the next day. Got it back about 2 weeks later and its been a solid 100% gun ever since.
The c308s have a horrible reputation for good reason but take a look at the cetme model L they are much better now that higher quality manufacturers are making them.
Would be nice if you could 3D print a stock with an adjustable length of pull and cheek riser. Maybe a front hand guard with an integrated angled grip?
This aside, I love how you customize your armaments. I got a Spanish Star as well, and the carry cuts you did was nice. I need to get them done in mine as well!
I have heard so many people crap on C308s. Maybe I just got lucky but mine is flawless. I've abused the crap out of it and shot probably nearly 1000 rounds since I bought it (it was preowned). I would pit my C308 against any PTR-91 any day, in accuracy and reliability. From my (very limited) experience the C308 is a victim of an undeserved bad reputation. I am very aware that I may have the exception that proves the rule, but I'd like to see a Kalash-bash style "G3 clone" gathering where we could test this out.
They’re not BAD guns. They’re just not as good as PTRs. They use CETME parts kits and not HK ones. They use worse barrels and receivers. They’re built by the monkey welders at Century. They work, but are a little bit worse in every way than PTRs. Which isn’t bad when they’re $300 or so. It’s problematic when people are charging $700+ for them currently.
Well those people aren't THAT wrong since the PTRs are part G3 part Cetme rifles (they're 99% the same design anyway) Edit: lol I'm stupid I mixed up C308 and PTR
@@booliganshootingsports It's fairly widely known that PTRs mix Cetme and G3 kits in different configurations. Since they are for the most part interchangeable. It's not a specific part that they use but more that they mix and match.
@@buddermonger2000 I guess I'm just curious as to what those parts would even be. The externals are 100% HK type parts, stock, sights, mags, triple frame, cocking tube, lower frame, trigger pack, paddle release, etc. None of those parts are CETME. Internally, CETME bolt and carrier are different than HK91/G3 parts and not safely cross compatible, and this has the HK pattern parts. Barrels are new production, and receivers are new production stamped on HK tooling with PTR. There is a lot less internal and external interchangeability between G3/HK91 and the CETME than you might think. So I guess that leaves me curious as to which CETME parts would even be able to find their way in there, lol. Now, the C308 on the other hand, that thing is a straight CETME build. But the PTRs are a different breed all together. I'd love to see what info you have about CETME parts in PTR factory builds, because I haven't seen anything indicating that.
@@buddermonger2000 no worries, these things definitely are easy to mix up! I was just making sure there wasn’t some new info I didn’t know about, haha.
my buddy got one and he absolutely loves it and i like it too the only issue is sometimes the charging is really hard to pull back and im not talking about kinda hard i mean like you have to put your body weight into it with the charging handle against a tree does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
I did buy it second hand. That’s not a terrible price for a PTR if it’s in good shape. I find it helpful to check completed sales on Gunbroker to get a good idea of national prices on weird stuff.

The Garand is ALWAYS the better choice, especially at CMP prices.
Cetme part kits are pretty cheap too. Considering gettting a cetme cause i cant afford an sa58 or a ptr at the moment
I know this comment is two years old but the Germans did invent the Cetme and the G3.
