New PTR-91 HK91/G3 Style .308 Rifles from PTR [SHOT Show 2020]

- In this episode of TFBTV, James visits the PTR booth to discuss new additions to the 91 series, i.e. the PTR-91. The PTR-91 is PTR's original flagship firearm, functionally a clone of the wildly successful HK91 and G3 rifle series first devised by Heckler & Koch. PTR has taken the design and made meaningful modern upgrades to the series. This year, PTR adds new models to the 91-series line.

PTR if you're listening, make us an HK93 clone!
Here here! With a 300 Blk model too!
But use AR mags
And a g36 maybe 🤷♂️
@@gholland5840 So a G41 clone?
@@gholland5840
Ah yes, the "does it take Glock mags?" of the rifle world...
Personally I'd prefer the standard mags as they work fine plus you can find them pretty cheap.
I have 2 , PTR91FR, and the PTR91F. I want the PTR 93. Come on PTR
@Stefano Dawg Those Buds 93's were trash. Six friends got them and only one even worked. I don't blame PTR though since they were Century receivers and worn out parts kits.
@@TheSlovenlyTactician century receivers strike again, when will they be charged for their crimes against parts kits
How do we re-invent the G3? *You dont, it’s a G3*
Pete P you shorten the stock and make a more vertical grip and lighten it up as much as you can with polymer and ultra light handguards. It’s actually the lightest and most accurate and reliable of almost any battle rifle, to this day. It’s potential is still not reached.
@@SlytigerSurvival also make it use 6.5 creed or grendel
replace stock and handguard like the swedes did?
MoistJohn it aint a cool cold war G3 anymore....
@@petep8828 It's still a cold war G3 produced in the 60-80's. Mine is from the 60's.
It's nice to hear about a gun that's not $1500+
Seriously? That's a relief. Seems like any modern rifle these days are around 2k
$1,500 is a GOOD price for US built just look at the cost of that new MP5 from H&K.
@@RJM1011 That's what I'm saying.
@@YuhNinja Yes I know :)
@@RJM1011 It's not though, I don't see how any of these things cost a lot to make at the scale PTR makes them. If they were renting the machinery, I'd understand. But they have stocks of receiver flats, surplus furniture for dirt cheap and they sell them for 1,200? It's ridiculous, and it's 90% gun grabbers fault, 10% PTR charging too much when the supply is caught up and the demand isn't there.
Plus when you use "US Built" as an excuse for a firearm being very expensive, it's like you're ignoring all the US built AR15's that are well made for 600-800 dollars yet we get a stock, untuned HK91 clone for 1,200 and have to put more money into it to get stuff like a Bill Springfield trigger job...c'mon. I love PTR, and I LOVE roller delayed blowback guns and I'm still going to bite the bullet and buy a PTR91 but there is no genuine reason for it to be so expensive. There is no R&D here to justify the prices, there's no marketing, no nothing.
Oh, not to mention we're not even getting the expensive ambi lowers, we're getting the SEF.
That dude at 1:13 was checking out James shorts....

Listen to consumers...we've been asking for 4150 nitrided barrels for the 91s for years now...
4140 untreated barrels are not acceptable in 2020
Yup, now I realize why they always skip talking about barrel specs. (Because it's nothing worth mentioning lol...) Even nitrided or chromed 4140 is obsolete when considering that even budget ARs come with 4150 pretty much standard these days.
@@StarCypher especially in a design that is not meant for barrel swaps
Funny considering their guns are based of an HK design, who are known for their barrels.
coming from the guitar world, its annoying when companies dont keep up with the times, BUUUUTT, he did say lifetime warranty, so if you needed a new barrel, I dont see why they wouldnt warranty that.
@@FrankThaThird warranty covers everything but barrel if you look into it. Them bimetal 308 rounds make these short lived barrels
RCM makes a CHF barrel for the PTR/G3. It costs $230~. Trying to look for a competent gunsmith that knows how to take off a ptr barrel, install a new barrel, then weld and refinish the gun costs and takes a bit. If PTR somehow sources a CHF barrel and just builds it from the get go, I would not mind paying extra for one.
Got my first PTR91 about two weeks ago and couldn't be happier with it! These guys have put the unattainable within reach. And MADE IN AMERICA! I am absolutely thrilled to finally see this iconic design in my hands. Thanks PTR!
How much did you get it for ? I got mine for 1200
I need a G3 just so I can larp in my flecktarn jacket and do the HK slap
Amy one that doesn't know what a PTR91 is needs to go home. I would like to see the C93 come back too.
I love mine. She kicks like a mule ever since I took her to a smithy to get the burrs out, but I think I've reined her back in a bit with new parts.
We need a PTR93!
Make the better cold hammer forged nitride treated, with polygonal rifling, clone a Spuhr stock option, and make the 5.56 version and a 300 BLK version in pistol format.
need to work on some 93 models
Agreed!
Ah... the G3... I still can take it a part and put it back together blindfolded, 14 years after i handed it in.
Nice service rifle.
Now with the 416 i have to sneak peek.
Norwegian I'm guessing.
@@thegael1996 👍😉
They should upgrade to 4150 steel, instead of 4140 steel.
I can't wait to bring home my new PTR. I got lucky enough to walk into the gun shop at the right time and a buddy who works there sold me his upgraded PTR with extra mags and he's throwing in the original furniture and 300 rounds of match ammo. So stoked!
I got a great deal on mine too, and it also came with mags and ammo, I love deals like that lol. My brother sold me his when he needed some cash, I got it for $1500 with 10 mags and 500 rounds of Wolf FMJ. It's been a great rifle. Especially after dropping the trigger pull weight down to just under 5 pounds and with a _much_ shorter reset, along with installing an M-72 severe duty muzzle break and H&K enhanced heavy buffer to lower recoil. I also got the enlarged hard rubber charging handle and an aluminum Midwest Industries M-lok handguard for better heat management (the stock plastic ones get way too hot after a couple mags), it's really quite an incredible rifle especially with a quality piece of glass sitting on top, mine will reach out and touch 800 yard silhouette targets, the free floated barrel is a huge advantage over most semiauto rifles.
@@TheExplosiveGuy I have the same hand guard on mine and a Magpul PRS 2 stock and Witt Machine SME muzzle brake. I plan on dropping in a lighter trigger and I'm going to slap on a 1-10x24 LPVO soon. I have a Vortex Strikefire on it now and I'm not very happy with it.
@shootinnscootin5545 If you're good with your hands you can do the trigger job yourself, I did all the work on mine myself, you just need to cut the hammer hooks down to .015-.020" (don't go lower than .015" or it will fire if dropped) tall measured from the flat face beneath the hooks, just clamp the hammer by itself in a small toolmakers vise and use diamond hones to cut the height down, keeping the cut oriented with the original flat on top. I reduced the trigger travel by soldering in two small pieces of copper wire to the part of the trigger that hits between the two steel stop posts in the trigger assembly, they can be filed down to accommodate whatever travel distance you want, if you go to my channel I've got a 10 second short showing their placement, it's my most recent short. Considering that an H&K match trigger group is worth just shy of $500, it might be worth your while to try it yourself.
Now can you please make a civilian version of the G41 or bring back the HK33 PLEASE!!!
I would love to see Wood furniture for the PTR series of rifles. I know I could use original wood from a parts kit, but availability is an issue that new production would fix.
They used to have one with the 91K line.
@@nocount7517 they should bring them back. I would pay well for them if there could just be a supply.
CETME wood is cheap and abundant and doesnt take a whole lot to modify to work with the G3/PTR. Its what I did.
The wood furniture used to be dirt cheap, then PTR bought it all up to use on their classic line. Don't think there's much of it left out there now, now you have to find it on Gabe and similar places. Absolutely beautiful wood though, color and feel are a noticeable step up from the CETME versions.
PTR 32 is on the bucket list
I'm glad I got a PTR-91 GI with no rail before they put rails on all of them. I have a Claw mount so I'm happy.
I own a PTR rifle the A3S version 18 inch barrel and I love it some say the 308 has hardcore recoil but I fount it wasn’t too bad. In my opinion people who complain about the recoil of a 308 are too used to shooting ARs
If someone doesnt like recoil they should stick to a Ruger 10/22.
PTR IF YOU ARE LISTENING..... PLEASE MAKE A 556 VERSION OF THE 16 INCH 91
A PTR 200 in 6.5 Grendel would make a great product even better. Well done PTR👍
I fell in love with the HKG3 while stationed in West Germany in the early 1980s. I'll have one of these when the stars align and I actually find one.
I got one. Well, at least as close as you can get in Germany as a civilian. It is a MKE T-41. Made in Turkey on HK machinery with German know-how. And semi (of course). But almost all original G3 parts fit - and they are dirt cheap here. Original buttstock with leather sling and front guard ~30 Euros. Lower sans internal parts ~ 20 Euros. New HK or Rheinmetall magazines 1,50 Euros.
shoots like a charm. I got pics on instagram.
@ 3:54 -- No, the only complaint is having to run the handle to lock the action open before reloading. Only thing the CETME/G3/*91 rifles are missing is a LRBHO. If PTR can solve *that* conundrum, the world will be their oyster!
They need to bring out some 5.56 models. I heard about a bunch, but by then, they were already sold out.
At first I thought this would be a terrible business plan for them, but then I thought about it. As someone who lives in a ban state where ARs are specifically banned, but HK91 models are fine, if these guys come out with a 5.56 that takes AR mags, I'll buy that to replace my mini 14 in a heartbeat.
IIDASHII Consider Palmetto State's new 5.56 AK that takes M4 mags. I'm assuming it'll be a tank with its extra beefy trunnion and it'll eat up steel case like nothing.
I wish PTR built a 93 .223 ar15 magazine rifle…I have the 91 and love it ..I had a c93 with a Ptr receiver but it didn’t shoot for crap sold it ..a new 93 with new parts that uses ar15 mags at a good price point could do well in the current market place …dream on
With some slight modifications and good ammo,i got mine to shoot 1 inch groups..🤠
That green 16" .308... It does things to me...
These are fantastically well priced guns
5.56 is all we want PTR-93 make it please!
I’d love to see a Ptr 91 or like a ptr31 in 5.45x39
GREAT to see PTR are still building these. Thank you for the video. :)
Ask PTR to make some HK33 clones
100%, yes.
Sadly, no matter how many they would produce, I’d bet a dollar they would sell above just about any MSRP and be in a perpetual state of “sold out”.
! As long as they are perfect clones of the original HK33.! No rails or only uses AR mags.
The HK 33 is a machine gun. So we unwashed masses can't have those.
@@bmstylee ok, how bout the HK53?
Im just holding out hope for a copy of the G41 that took m16 mags.
I used to have an original hk91 with the claw mount and I loved it
Should have never cancelled the PTR-91SC 16" model with the fluted barrel. Loved the shorter 93 style hand guard over the full length hand guard. Also make a fullsize MP5 with a 93 hand guard.
I love my PTR32! I have been wanting to get it's big brother for a while now. I think the time to do so is coming soon.
If they really listened they would fabricate their line with the magazine's pin as the original and there are no excuses, it is true that the is fully manufactured in the good old USA.
Got mine home and I absolutely love it! Such a well made and solid rifle! Very accurate and with the Witt Machine muzzle brake I have on it, it has pretty low recoil. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a high quality rifle and doesn't have $3k for a real HK. It's a really great rifle!
My credit card is warmed up and ready for a 16" powder coated PTR 91. When will they be hitting stores?
I think Ian from in range was on it with the lefty charging handle and ambi safety. The inline stock was pretty cool too.
it would be nice if you made an over size mag release button for older guns
I just want to see them do an MP-5 clone that doesn't have the rail on it for that classic look. It shouldn't be too hard to just not put the rail on for a run of PTR 9C's 600s and call it the model 602 or 599 or whatever. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
Yeah I've been asking for the 5.56 from ptr for 10 years I send an email once a week. Someday I hope

Please update your barrels. It is the only thing stopping me from buying a 7.62x39 and a .308.
PTR please bring back the HK93 Clone to the market we still waiting for it till Jesus is back.
My dad just gave us a 1981 HK 91 with all the original furniture. I was shocked at what the value is. I like the idea of getting one of these to use in the mud without messing up the original. You are right though, it's a heavy rifle to hump around.
I realize they are trying to be light in weight and military in looks, but... for some one like me that appreciates the way the gun looks I do love it when gun manufactures take the time to put some wood onto their weapons. Nothing beats a mat gray metal with a nice cherry or oak finished stock or inlay on their weapon. Maybe I should just start my own company.
Would love to see the 16 inch barrel available with the collapsible stock
Then buy a collapsible stock and a 16 inch gun it's not a fal you don't need anything special to do that
Always wanted a G3. I just know about the cleaning procedure.
My PTR 32 has made me forget about everything else I own. Can’t wait to leave MD and get a 91.
not marked up yet these used to be 900 and now go for like 1100 to 1200.
PTR 93.
They should add the heavy buffer tube and pad. 1st two thinks I replaced.
Im a simple man, I see short shorts I hit the like button
I Love my PTR 91, model 109.
Yes! Hk 93, would buy one in a flash.
01:13 A wild boomer appears
Just bought the 9CT and found out they swapped out the quality steel mags with cheap clear plastic ones. For $1800 that’s bull crap. PTR Customer service was useless. Not a fan.
Was hoping for the shorts, was not disappointed. My PTR-91 has been fantastic. Shoots around 1 MOA at 100 yards with ZQI ammo (yeah, it's been a while since I shot it since ZQI is not at Wally world anymore). I was lucky enough to snag one of their PTR-93s (Unfinished Century Arms guns) they built a while back. It functions perfectly and feels like a pop gun for recoil. The price was ridiculously low for how great a rifle it is. The only negative are factory 93 mags. They are expensive!
EXCELLENT bush/outback rifle...
Wish they got the Fat handguard for the GI model that one shoots soooo good and it doesn't get hot nearly as fast
When he said around the 1k mark for price I was shocked. Needless to say, my next battle rifle
I want a PTR 32k so bad! They're sold out almost everywhere and the few that have them want a premium for the short version.
We want barrel options. I want the basic mean green with the picatinny rail top but with the 18” classic profile barrel but with the flutes. 👍
Because we don't have G3s, I'll take it.
Tight shorts are totally underrated.
It is a great gun for the money. I have one and it is a lot of fun to shoot and accurate for a battle rifle too.
@ PTR Industries: Two suggestions. First - please sell a model with a better trigger right from the factory. Preferably a decent two-stage with 4.5 lbs. pull weight. Not hard or expensive to do. It would be worth a few bucks more in terms of list price, and save owners the time/hassle of having to pull the trigger pack and replace it or get it worked on. Second, bring back the vintage-style wood stock & furniture, plus OEM iron sights only, for those of us who want that 1960s look.
5.56 in the near future?
An HK 93 would sell better than any other 90 series rifle you can make!
The price has gone up to over $2000 because of demand !!!
MAKE WIDE FOREARMS FOR THE 91 RIFLES
Would also love to see a 5.56 but ONLY if you can make a super reliable magazine that stays in stock, maybe team up with magpul? I love my PTR32 and I have loved the customer service I received, great company great product!
Dang ordered a girk but I thought it had shorter hand guard so I ordered a 93 wide hand guard frickkkkk
Do all roller delayed blowback cut flutes into the brass?
Stefano Dawg So is that a requirement for delayed blowback to work? Are the flutes cut into the chamber?
This guy seems really cool. I want to buy one of his guns.
Great rifle!
They need to release a model with the wide handgaurd and bipod. Charge the extra.
I'm waiting one in 6.5 creedmoor, and 6.8x51 Sig... especially 6.8x51. :(
Soooo when are we going to get 4150 barrels?
Or even 416r stainless?
Or even longer length top rails even just a couple inches longer would be great
4140 is unacceptable in this day and age especially in a rifle you can’t easily replace like on an AR
Still would like to get a PTR-93A3 , prefer the 5.56 .👍✌
when do we get a PTR-11? Or if you not feeling particularly unhinged maybe a PTR MK-23 with the single shot slide lock?
Please get more A3S versions out to dealers. All I ever see are the GI models.
As much as I love modern technology, welding a picatinny rail to the top of a g3 upsets me. Just make a low profile rail for it that isnt permanent.
None of the ones that are out there are that great as far as rigidity when clamped on. The MFI ones are as low as you are going to get without welding a rail on there, and it feels rather cheap. Brugger and Thomet rails are solid quality wise but they sit up too high on the receiver when they are installed.
@ Stefano Dawg The only issue I have with the German claw mounts is that they make the optic sit up so high. I know it was designed that way in order to use the iron sights below in an emergency, but the higher up the optic sits the harder it is going to be to get a good cheek weld without some sort of riser on the buttstock.
I've got that stock. Decent, with plenty of adjustment, but not the lightest thing in the world. I think for a dedicated DMR type rifle that stock can work pretty well with this gun, but as an all-purpose type of buttstock I think it is not as good overall as the conventional stock. To be honest my favorite setup is either the original telescoping stock with iron sights or a fixed stock with a low profile rail (welded) that I can put a simple scope or RDS on if needed.
You need a SBR? With a TAX STAMP!
Have a PTR from way back when PTR just switched over from JLD.
Would love to do a paddle mag mod to mine, just haven't had the heart to try it yet.
Just took a look at the prices and they're extremely reasonable for what they're offering! Great stuff 💜
Where's the 5.56 ptr 93????
Where's the 5.56?
As Quigley said to the kid who whined that 45/110 was heavy.
" you get used to it".
It is looking great!🤗
Still tempted by the ptr-32 as a magnified optic + suppressor acceptable host for x39.
These are GREAT Rifles! 👍
