    So many people seem to talk a lot about all the 3LT [and indeed other brands] features but bizarrely no one seems to say that much about stability, which is the primary point of a tripod, after all the most basic tripod that is solid will be way more useful than one with lots of features but vibrates! So thanks for that!
    I have a big heavy Manfrotto 055XPRO 3 which is pretty great but sometimes just too bulky and a cheap travel tripod but really looking at something that can cover both jobs and maybe Bucky is it, I love how 3LT has names and not a ridiculous string of letters and numbers, 3LT have so many it's hard to know which one is best for you.
    Have you used Nicky with the levelling base? She looks awesome but is probably too big for most cases I need, and pretty pricey!
    What do you think of Airhed Vue compared to Pro?

    Love the images you captured Brendan 😍.
    You helped me in choosing a Winston 1.0 about 2 years ago. And I love it.
    Did have an issue..but that was mainly due to me not cleaning my tripod.
    Got to say that 3leggedthing customer service was nothing short of amazing.

    I have had a 3LT Punk for a couple of years now. Changed to the Winston 2 a month ago and have shot with it nearly everyday since it arrived. Much quicker to set up with just 2 legs joins to adjust, extra height gives you so many more composition options if you shoot in weird places.....better standard ball head......really love the Winston 2. That tripod looks nice but it is the Winston 2 for me.

    5-section legs, AND a 4-section center column? YIKES. How many travelers really need a tripod that compact? I carry 3-4 "travel" tripods on my wilderness backpacking trips and on airplanes, and I've never needed something smaller than a Slik Lite CF, with a single center column and 3-lock legs. Oh, and such tripods are still just ~2 lbs, and yet get a viewfinder almost to 6 ft high...
    I wish more tripod companies would get on board with the notion that a tripod can still be lightweight and yet not have FIFTEEN joints, lol..

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  4 роки тому

      You're not wrong, but they have Winston. And yet, on my trips, it's rare for me to find a photographer with a tripod with less than 4 sections. Companies sell what sells, and people don't buy the big ones.
      Personally, I prefer the big tripods too.

    • @MatthewSaville
      @MatthewSaville 4 роки тому

      @@BrendanvanSon The thing is, 3-section legs might be "big", but there are innumerable 4-section leg tripods out there that are still lighter and just as compact as the 5-section tripods that keep popping up more and more. My Slik CF LITE weighs barely 2 lbs, and yet gets my camera to eye level even though I'm 6'2". Yeah, it's prone to shake in the wind if I'm shooting telephoto, but there's also tripods in the ~2.5 lb range that are also relatively short when collapsed, and yet extremely strong, but just a tiny bit shorter. Feisol's Tournament series is just 2.4 lbs, and Slik's VARI series is just 2.4-2.8 lbs, and it comes with a flat base, a leveling base, and a center column, all interchangeable.
      I love 3LT because they're going the complete opposite direction from all the terrible junk brands these days that keep popping up on Amazon or eBay, but it still seems like they haven't yet made my personal type of "ultimate" tripod. I'll keep watching to see what else shows up, though; they're always a quality brand...

    Great to see the new "Bucky" by 3 Legged Thing. I'd never heard of this company until I started to watch your videos and on the strength of that decided purchase "Albert" earlier this year. I love Portugal....may get back there in 2021 when travel and quarantine restriction are hopefully consigned to memory. I have recently purchased the Albert and Leo. The Bucky & Ray do look (and no doubt are) good tripods. But the Albert & Leo are quite similarly spec'd and in the UK cost £150 & £140 less for them compared to the Bucky & Ray. So even if the new ones were available at the time of purchase (currently pre-order)..I am confident I would still have chosen the Albert & Leo. If the prices were the same. I still think I would go for the Leo over the Ray. Albert versus Bucky?.....Well that would be a close call. If the bucky had a leveling base like the Jay in that series then definitely the Bucky. Without a leveling base, I think(???) I would still go with the Albert.

    Having gone over to tripods with no centre column sorry not going back - at least not for my main tripods. Travel tripod possibly. I do like the look of 3LT products and have one of their airheds and take Ellie with me everywhere but the centre column on the tripods is a deal breaker for me (no point paying for it to then remove it) and I just find the twist knobs on the legs too bulky. I prefer flip locks like I have on my ifootage TC7 Fastbowl. great for panos.

    • @BrendanvanSon
      @BrendanvanSon  4 роки тому +1

      It's a good point Steve, I think I might petition 3LT to offer their tripods without a center column as an option. I don't mind having one on my travel tripod, but on my big heavy weather tripod, it definitely comes out.

    • @SteveP_2426
      @SteveP_2426 4 роки тому

      @@BrendanvanSon Thanks Brendan, don't take it the wrong way but as an ambassador if you get a free tripod and don't use rmtge centre column then it's not really an issue but if you buy one you are potentially paying for something you don't use. I have 2 tripods with the self levelling vase built in and I'd never want to go back. One of them you can buy a central column separately so if you like one you can get it but you don't have to pay for it as part of the tripod if you know you won't use it. As 3LT are a UK company I do hope they do well.

    Hello! I looked a little bit at 3 Legged thing tripods and I don't see the difference between the Brian (ok it's limit is 14kg but my gears don't weight half of that) but even more between Albert and Bucky. Do you have an opinion about that? Also I like the fact that they have a flashy orange and a darker version so it fit people style however it would be nice of them to go all the way and drop completely the orange in the dark version, just a thought :)

    • @MatthewSaville
      @MatthewSaville 4 роки тому

      All of those tripods have five-section legs and 4-section center columns, so even if your camera & lens weigh nothing, the support will still be less stiff for telephoto shots, and will take longer to set up each time. I'd definitely recommend the Travis instead, because its legs and center column are going to be a lot more stiff, and it's not that much of a difference in the actual weight, and the folded length is still small enough to travel with.

      @@MatthewSaville Thanks for the answer and advice. However I want a tripod that fit in my bag and so even 5cm difference when folded does matter for me. The 3 legged things might be my choice when I upgrade

      @MatthewSaville 4 роки тому +1

      @@matthieugraveleau Unfortunately, "cheap" tripods are a great way to smash your entire camera and lens on a rock, so, be careful! I understand needing to fit your tripod INSIDE a backpack or carry-on luggage, but again, I've never had a problem with the types of tripods I bring that have 4-section legs instead of 5, or a single center column instead of two or three or four column sections. Even a 450mm folded length can fit inside an airplane overhead bin, or inside most suitcases/backpacks. Personally, I just strap my tripods to the outside of my backpacks, and I've never had any problems whether traveling y plane, train, bus, or hiking...

      It's the camera. I was WAY back from the edge today. Thankfully. It was a pretty good spot to set up!

      Good sticks save you more than that. Cheap sticks can cost you a lot more if your $4000 worth of camera gear gets tossed off a cliff by a bit of wind or broken legs.

    So, a windy location, a tripod that can extend to 7ft yet you shoot with the centre column down? No offence but thats hardly a test to show stability. Come on, do a real test, people wanna know, people wanna spend, I include myself in that.
